it has been an incredibly busy day. and this afternoon couldn't have gone much better for manchester united. current fa cup holders, they beat reading 4—0 at old trafford in the third round, with one of their goals coming from wayne rooney. it was his 249th goal for united, equalling the club record set by sir bobby charlton who was watching on. adam wild reports. arriving at the theatre of dreams, for wayne rooney a moment to fulfil his. this is the stage on which he's been a leading man for more than a decade. amongst the audience for this special performance, the man whose goal—scoring record he was now chasing.
7:33 pm
rooneyjust one goal away from that, and no one would have to wait long. commentator: it's in, wayne rooney equals the all—time goal—scoring record of sir bobby charlton for manchester united. in off his knee, but in all the same, and that's what the history books will now show. record equalling goal—scorer, but rooney's role goes much further than that. his pass playing in anthony martial for united's second. such was their dominance, the lead could, perhaps should, have been greater by half—time. but whilst rooney couldn't quite add another, marcus rashford could. his captain the first to congratulate him. for the cup holders, this was very comfortable. rashford's second — united's fourth — couldn't have been any easier. a landslide win for a landmark occasion. to be up there in terms of goals with sir bobby, it's a really proud moment for me. hopefully i'll be out there on my own soon, but today, i'll enjoy today. it's a real honour. a record equalled — now to break it. for such a player that

surely won't take long. it was a professional performance. players faced it in a fantastic way. respected the opponent, like we do in premier league matches, we found good qualities. and it was a professional performance, everybody was focused and committed. professional performance, everybody was focused and committedm professional performance, everybody was focused and committed. it is always good to be back. but of course you want to get the result. i am not the type of manager who's happy to lose. it is always a good here, atmosphere that people have been good, fans have been good, but lam thinking been good, fans have been good, but i am thinking about the team, rather than the fans, what they have been

doing. i than the fans, what they have been doing. lam than the fans, what they have been doing. i am thankful about how they approached me, but i have to think about my team and what we can do. we can find out if we had any shocks? john is with me. but i can tell you about the late kick off. arsenal going to be the fourth round after coming from behind against preston. it was the meeting of the invincible is, it is a decade since it is applied to arsenal, and a century for preston, but preston wrote back the years to stun their decorated opponents. flag stays down. what a start for preston north end. the goal—scorer should have told

7:37 pm
11 changes had been made by eddie howe. it was an excellent performance. millwall‘s first goal scored by steve morison after 26 minutes. and then, sensing the upset. third goal by midfielder shane ferguson in third minute of added time. bournemouth, who drew 3—3 with arsenaljust bournemouth, who drew 3—3 with arsenal just days bournemouth, who drew 3—3 with arsenaljust days ago, well beaten in this. millwall looking like the premier league team. and we can speak to the millwall boss.|j enjoyed that. i enjoyed watching my team. the boys had been working hard, to try to stop almost. nullified the threats. —— bournemouth. but we knew that we we re bournemouth. but we knew that we were capable of making chances, so i am delighted that we were clinical. and pleased with the clean sheet. tyneside is a wonderful thing, if we
7:38 pm
knew we were going to perform so badly we would not have made those changes. how frustrated with that performance? i think we have developed the winning culture, mentality, so to succumb in that manner is hugely disappointing. and derby county also defeated premier league opposition, west bromich 2—1. albion derby county had been in good form in the championship so some people could have predicted this. but west brom also in good form. they were in control. thanks to this from phillips. but two long range strikes in five minutes turned it round. darren bent. then tom ince. famous father, paul! steve mcclaren doing such a good job after taking over from doing such a good job after taking overfrom nigel pearson. back at

doing such a good job after taking over from nigel pearson. back at his former football club. with braun supporters could have thought they we re supporters could have thought they were good if —— going to have a good cup run but no! you've got to feel a little for lincoln here. so, so close to causing an upset against ipswich, but 2—2 it finished... i thought this was going to be the story of the day. it was an excellent performance in the end. we can look at the goals. linclon went in front twice in this game. first of all early on when theo robinson got on the end of this cross. when tim, top of the national league. —— lincoln. ipswich levelled almost immediately when tom lawrence dribbled through the defence to score the goalkeeper‘s legs. but lincoln always looked like they could score again against the championship side, and robinson again, seized on the error in the ipswich defence to make it 2—1, and it was looking like a shock was the cards. some ipswich supporters turning against them.

15th in the championship. supporters turning against them. 15th in the championshipm supporters turning against them. 15th in the championship. it is a tinge of disappointment but i think the overriding emotion is pride. under a lot of pressure today, 5000 supporters coming all of this week to support us. and we wanted to give the best version of ourselves. we are pleased that we were able to do that. the championship teams getting a good account of themselves. norwich city getting a replay against southampton. 2—2 at carrow road. norwich city have been inconsistent, and southampton have had a tough christmas. southampton airport the second, to make it 2—1, it looked like southampton were going to go through, good header from

like southampton were going to go through, good headerfrom the international. it looked as though boruc city were going to be heading out, but steven naismith, the former everton player, made it 2—2. that could be a confidence boosterfor norwich city. alex neil has been under pressure. and nojose fonte for southampton. he handed that tra nsfer for southampton. he handed that transfer request in. now, perhaps an emotional game for afc wimbledon, unable to overcome lower league opposition, it ended 0—0 against sutton united... i think this was one of the highlights. neighbours. two teams famous for fa cup exploits in the 80s. sutton had the better of the game with maxime biamou denied twice in the first half — dons striker tom elliott had a header cleared off the line in stoppage time, but neither side could find a winner so they'll do it all again. here's sutton captain jamie collins but first his manager paul doswell. .. you can get wrapped up in the game.

but i think people thought we were the better team today. the goalkeeper made some good saves. we have done ourselves credit. good performance today. at home, we fancy ourselves against anybody. away from home we have struggled. but to be honest, we had some good chances in the first half. we will take the draw. go to their place. another good day for the lads. the lowest—ranked team in the 3rd round, stourbridge, have been knocked out by wycome. good account of themselves? very brave. unlucky. not to at least get a replay. wycombe were made to wait for the break through, but they did go in front early in the second half through sam wood. but stourbridge got what was a deserved equaliser for the northern premier league side. getting back into it.
7:43 pm
dan scarr getting on the end of the scramble. the celebrations said it all. all of these players, amateurs. but it was heartbreak for the side from the black country. "the beast" adebayo akinfenwa denying them a replay with a late header to make it 2—1. the wycombe wanderers manager, relieved. you can see why the court to the third round. really gave us a game today. akinfenwa popping up, got us out ofjail. because they really gave us a good game. fantastic. it is fantastic that wycombe wanderers have got to the fourth round, heck of an achievement, but that was very top. as tough as many begin is we have had a league two. five port probably over 90 minutes we were the better

sam alla rdyce, against sam allardyce, against his old team. eight years at bolton. sam allardyce is still looking for his first win as crystal palace boss after his former club bolton wanderers forced a replay against their premier league opponents in the fa cup third round. i think he has been finding this harder than he expected. replay they don't need. but credit to bolton wanderers. loic remy hit the post for last year's losing finalists in the first half — but they survived a scare when josh vela also found the woodwork for bolton. sam allardyce, sam alla rdyce, not sam allardyce, not happy to get that replay forced on him. my disappointment was the fact that we treated, and —— created good chances in the first half, but the most pleasing thing, we have not conceded a goal. we will take the clean sheet scenario, and try to deliver that at west ham next week. typical fa cup.
