is never ending at the moment. it it is never ending at the moment. it almost feels this morning after a pretty wild start on monday, that we have stepped back into winter. take a look at this, this is nottinghamshire, the cherry blossom tree are reminded that we are actually in the month of spring but we have seen gusts of winds in excess of close to 60 mph for some this morning. we have also, watch this, we have also had some snow showers. this is doncasterjust a few hours ago. the snow mostly on higher ground. but it's quite bizarre considering just a couple of days ago we had the warmest day of the year so far with 21.6 degrees in essex. ijust want the year so far with 21.6 degrees in essex. i just want to show you essex as we go through this week. look at this roller—coaster ride of temperatures, going from 21 down to 12 with some showers, it's going to feel pretty cool, and indication into friday that it mightjust be a bit more optimistic as we head into next weekend. more on that in the moment. let's get back to reality.
1:31 pm
it's all about the low pressure. it has brought some very heavy rain, it has brought some very heavy rain, it has moved south—east but the winds are a feature today, strong and gusty cold north—westerly wind, driving in a rash of showers. these little dashes are showers of snow. mostly to high ground across scotland and north—west england and maybe north wales. for the remainder of the afternoon, a case of sunny spells and scattered showers. a brisk north—westerly wind, driving the showers through a quite a pace. no surprise to realise it is going to feel pretty chilly out there for the time of year. the gusts of wind generally around a0 mph, a little bit lighter on the far north of scotland. here are the temperatures, on the whole, 9 to 12 sources, not great as we head through the middle of april. through the night tonight, the low pressure will drift away into the north sea. a northerly wind continues down along the east coast and here we could see some showers. at clearer skies to the west. that's
1:32 pm
the story as we head into tomorrow. a chilly start for some, single figures widely across the country. into tomorrow, the cold northerly wind could spark and continue to feed in some showers for yorkshire towards east anglia. 0ut feed in some showers for yorkshire towards east anglia. out of the west there will be fewer showers and lighter winds in comparison. so fingers crossed the thermometer might not read any different, it might not read any different, it mightjust feel that might not read any different, it might just feel that little might not read any different, it mightjust feel that little bit might just feel that little bit warmer. mightjust feel that little bit warmer. the exception is that cloud and rain lingering across the east coast, here only 9 celsius. from the middle to the end of the week, high pressure will start to building from west. it could quieten things down quite nicely as we head towards the weekend. so to end on an optimistic note, drierand weekend. so to end on an optimistic note, drier and brighter but not necessarily warmer by the weekend. thanks, louise. and that's bbc news at 0ne. you can keep up with all the latest developments on the bbc website. now it's time to join our colleagues

for the news where you are. hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm jane dougall. was sunday the decisive day in the premier league title race, as arsenal and liverpool slip up? scottie scheffler wins the masters for a second time, butjust why was he in a rush get home afterwards? 0n the 35th anniversary of the hillsborough disaster, we hearfrom the nottingham forest fan campaigning for a memorial at the city ground. welcome to the programme.

there is one match later in the premier league, with chelsea hosting everton at stamford bridge, but fans are still reeling from a dramatic weekend in the race for the title, with two of the three contenders dropping points. both liverpool and arsenal lost at home, meaning they are two points behind manchester city, who are top and seemingly with a clearer path to winning a potential fourth consecutive title, as patrick geary reports. the table tells you there is a title race. the faces tell you who is now in control of it. received wisdom says manchester city won on sunday — without playing. this morning, arsenal will be trying to avoid those words. but against aston villa they didn't heed warnings — having lost to them earlier in the season, youri tielemans rattled out in alarm call. an unlikely ricochet away, villa soon made the angles work for them. leon bailey had just enough to aim at. a win would have put arsenal back top, but now
1:35 pm
they were chasing the game — and also 0llie watkins. and that is 2—0 to aston villa. a big win for villa in their hunt for the champions league, a big slip for arsenal — but there are still six games left. it was going to be always a bump in the road. we won ten, drew one. unbelievable. everybody is on board. win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, everybody is happy. very easy to maintain momentum and be on top of that. it's now, after the defeat, how you show your character, your leadership. liverpool also might have gone top, but they'd been beaten in europe in the week. and soon, crystal palace's eberechi eze was left in all sorts of space. a goal to make you say... wow, indeed, and wow again as liverpool missed chance after chance. might have been moments... curtis jones for liverpool. .. misses. ..in the manager's last season. liverpool are just two points behind manchester city — arsenal only one —

but at this stage of the season, the champions can make any gap seem like a long, dark tunnel. patrick gearey, bbc news. in the last hour, everton have confirmed that they have formally appealed against their second points deduction for breaching the premier league's financial rules. earlier this month, the club were docked two points after being found to have broken profit and sustainability rules for a second time. in november, everton were given a ten point deduction, which was later reduced to six on appeal, for exceeding permitted losses over a period ending 2021/22. the latest reduction put them down to 16th in the league. well, while the title race in england is still tight, it's all over in germany with former liverpool player xabi alonso leading bayer leverkussen to their first ever bundesliga title. they beat werder bremen 5—0 to secure the title with five games to spare, in what has been an incredible season. they are still unbeaten in all competitions, with the potenital for more trophies in the german cup and europa league. despite winning the masters, american scottie scheffler said he just wanted to get home to his wife, who is expecting their first child. the world number one started the day one shot clear of the field
1:37 pm
and finished on 11—under. it's the 27—year—old's second major — he also won the masters two years ago. scheffler said he hates losing and that it was an honour to put on the greenjacket for a second time, but that there was more to life than golf tournaments. it's... it's hard to put into words how special this is. it's been a long week, a grind of a week, the golf course was so challenging, and to be sitting here wearing this i love winning, i hate losing, i really do, and we are you out there in the biggest moments, sitting with the lead on a sunday, i want to win badly. my buddies told me that my victory will secure on the cross, and that is a pretty good feeling. i feel like playing professional golf
1:38 pm
is an endlessly not satisfying career. for instance, in my head, all i can think about right now is getting home. i'm not thinking about the tournament, the green jacket, i'm trying to answer your questions and get own. i wish i could soak this in a little bit more, maybe be will tonight when i get home, but i think that is what the human heart does, it always wants more, and i think you have got to fight those things and focus on what is good. well, here's how it finished, with scheffler four shots clear of ludvig aberg. bryson dechambeau led after the first day, but only finished on two—under. much further down, rory mcilroy on four—over — that masters title still outwith his grasp. tied for third, americans max homa and colin morikawa, along with england's tommy fleetwood, who feels he's getting closer. yeah, i loved that this week. it was great being out late on the sunday
1:39 pm
playing a good round of golf, just another major championship where you are at the right end of the leaderboard at the end of the week. who knows that my time will ever come, but all i can keep doing is trying to put myself there and having performances like this, then we'll see. dan evans is out of the barcelona 0pen after losing in straight sets in the first round. the british number two was beaten 7—6, 6—2 by american brandon naka—shima. the british number two was beaten 7—6, 6—2 by american brandon nakashima. it means evans has lost all three matches he has played on clay so far this season. the french open gets under way in just over a month's time. some sad news from the world of boxing. the former wbu lightweight boxer willie limond has died at the age of a5. limond was a former commonwealth champion, making his debut in 1999. he was due to fightjoe lawes at the emirates arena next month, but was taken to hospital last week after reports he suffered a seizure. his death has now been confirmed by st andrews sporting club

who called him a legend of the sport who will be greatly missed. it's 35 years today since the hillsborough stadium disaster took place. 97 liverpool fans were unlawfully killed as the result of the crush at an fa cup semifinal in sheffield. liverpool's opponents that day were nottingham forest and now some forest fans are calling for a memorial at their stadium, the city ground. one such fan is martin peach, who was at hillsborough on that terrible day. he's been telling his story. i think about hillsborough everyday at least once, and i have thought about it every day for what is nearly years now. i have been a nottingham forest fan all my life. i was 12 and 1989. we were taking on liverpool in the fa cup and i was there to witness the worst sporting disaster that britain has ever seen. the liverpool fans are just to

about iran's claimed that they gave advanced warning about the attack. what can you tell us about that? downing street has addressed that and rejects categorisation, that clearly the uk and its allies were not briefed. there had been reports and intelligence which is why they were aware of the attack coming, but it did not come from iran.— it did not come from iran. there have been _ it did not come from iran. there have been a _ it did not come from iran. there have been a lot _ it did not come from iran. there have been a lot of _ it did not come from iran. there have been a lot of calls - it did not come from iran. there have been a lot of calls from - have been a lot of calls from restraint and calm, what are we expecting from the prime minister and what have we heard from lord cameron? ., ., ., , cameron? you are right, there has been the suggestion _ cameron? you are right, there has been the suggestion that - cameron? you are right, there has been the suggestion that israel - been the suggestion that israel needs to consider very carefully how it responds and make sure that the situation doesn't escalate. this morning the foreign secretary, lord cameron, was echoing the call from joe biden, saying that israel should take the win. iran had suffered a double defeat because not only had the attack failed, but eran had also

been exposed as the malign actor in the region. he saw that as a win that israel should take. you would expect to hear more from the prime minister when he gets up to give his statement to the comments about the escalate in that situation and making sure it doesn't get any worse. with these kind of addresses to parliament, these statements, what you would usually expect to hear from the prime what you would usually expect to hearfrom the prime minister what you would usually expect to hear from the prime minister is what you would usually expect to hearfrom the prime minister is more detail about what action was taken and why the uk did it, so we know from the prime minister's official spokesman that they shutdown and number of one—way attackjones, the raf. it is clear that this is being done under existing conditions for an existing operation in the region, so they don't believe there is any need for them to publish any more legal advice. the other thing we might expect as calls from politicians for iran's revolutionary
