document, unnecessarily long and scarcely short of the candor, the fbi pretends to value internally but not when it comes to the public agency what's served so heroically. the ig report is designed to up his gait rather than informed. even so that document does find comey leaked confidential information and lied and ignored the actions of comey who constructed grounds of a special counsel. and pursued an investigation of president trump, he called a witchhunt. which turned out to be even worse than a witchhunt. it was an effort to overthrow the trump presidency. and tonight this ig report reveals his reckless disregard for law, regulation, policies of the fbi as he dilated the protocol after protocol.

in his disgraced, comey does not ask for forgiveness but rather for an apology. with that, we turn to check intelligence correspondent catherine cherr catherine heritn washington. >> the 83 report internal watchdog concluded fbi director james comey violated his own agency policy and appointment agreement. and handling documenting and part private conversation with the president about the russia investigation. we have previously faulted comey for acting unilaterally and inconsistent with department policy. the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive investigative information. during the course of fbi employment, in order to achieve a personally desired outcome. after being fired by the president in late 2017, he later took commerce he believed they

were his property to share. >> i understood this to be my regulation reported a my conversation with the president as a private citizen i felt free to share that reveal the inspector general found they were government records, his characterization of the memos has personal records by no support in the law. to get the content to the new york times to kickstart the special counsel investigation comey used columbia law school professor as an intermediary. before he was fired he testified on the hill. >> have you ever been in an ominous source and news reports about matters relating to the trump investigation? >> never. >> have you ever authorized someone else at the fbi to be in an ominous source and news reports about the trump investigation? >> no. reporter: the report found comey kept the record at his home in a personal safe. the report states that the memo was ultimately determined to contain classified information at the lowest level.

he uses personal scanner and private e-mail accounts to provide electronic copies of the most two, fork, six and seven to personal attorneys. that attorney provided by a personal e-mail account copied of the four memos to two other attorneys. the report made clear comey crossed the line with actions. on twitter he claimed vindication because the ig found no classified indication was shared with the media. reporter: this is the second time he went beyond his authorities about the ejector and the first is in the clinton e-mail investigation. a legal analyst said a person's prior behavior should be considered to prosecute. he remains pending investigations into the lead surveillance abuse during the 2016 election. lou: thank you. catherine from washington. we will have much more on the coming report and tonight's broadcast with the washington examiner's byron york and wall

al qaeda inside of pakistan. they conduct operations against them on a regular basis from one of the bases that we killed osama bin laden. our concern, we got it, were worn out by the war in afghanistan but we don't want al qaeda to attack us again, we don't want them to establish a safe haven. what would it take to do that, can we get the forces down to a smaller level to guarantee that will not happen? >> were doing the same thing in syria with less forces and less forces in yemen, libya and semi. these are the only places where the radicals want to attack us, american people. lou: i understand and i appreciate your construct of the situation. i want to add one other dimension that to me is

fundamental to whatever we would do strategically. we produce, i don't know how many generals over the course of the past two decades. we have people arguing, are we criticizing our men and women in uniform who are enlisted, our soldiers and i'm not, and questioning the generals and questioning the strategy because you talk about asymmetric warfare, think of the trillions of dollars that this country has spent in iraq, and afghanistan and the peanuts of ragtag gis have spent, and general what we are doing is unsustainable clearly and the sooner we recognize that to have a strategy or come home, were in deep trouble. >> i agree. i said that would lindsey graham on the first or second sentence we said, this thing is not sustainable. but particularly -- i do think

one right here reveals new details of a private meeting of fbi director comey had with president trump in 2017. according to the report, comey, james klapper former cia and john brennan, former nsa director mike rogers met with president trump just weeks before his inauguration. after that briefing, comey met privately with the president-elect to discuss salacious allegations in this field dossier, the fraudulent document concocted by christopher steele, the top fbi and intel leave the allegations even though he had given them every reason to have absolutely no confidence whatsoever about its contents. after the private meeting
