major dan rooney is a fight eer pilot. he is joined by this wife karen and their daughters. thank you for being here you all. this is incredible to have you. your stories are exceptional. i want to start with you. folds of honor is something that came tow. what is the mission of folds of honor. our mission is leave no family behind we provide scholarships to someokids who have had someo killed in afghanistan. as an f-16 pilot i did three tours of duty in iraq and i understood that freedom isn't free. i felt called to god to do

something about it and didn't do anything until a fateful commercial airline flight from chicago to michigan and i get on this flight and we land in grand rapids after midnight and the captain said that we had the remains of corporal bucklynn and his identity kal brother had brought his brother home. he saw the other side of war. this family welcomed brock home for the last time. it was one of the most emotional things that i had witnessed in my life. and god called me to do something and we had the courage to do something. >> the outreach is continuing. major polito your story is one

of pure gift, service, resilience, and now you found folds of honor 2004 take us back. >> i always told everyone that my life is about god, country and the enlisted are the backbone. that is who saved my life. i hit a roadside bomb that would change my life forever. the first fragment broke my knee in three places i arrived in baghdad 17 hours in surgery, blood transfusions, i say a got a little female blood in me because i cry all the time. helped to germany where i would be reunited with my family and in october 1st of 2004 i prayed to god and my mom was there and

my wife held my hand and we made a decision to amputate my leg. god bless the united states of america. >> amen to that. [ applause ] >> major give me a chance to serve be enlisted as a non commissioned officer to give scholarships to the fallen and the wounded and i thank my wife and my two girls for being there every step of the way. and major rooney and knowing and understanding that as ground pounders we can't leave each other behind. >> i see you every time you hear that story it is not like you get used to it. folds of honor understands what families need. how has it changed your life? they give you that security

back. you don't have to worry about your children. that is one load lifted from me. not to worry about their future. one thing you don't have to b e worry about. there are worries that go with the situation like this. it has given my husband a new purpose. he is a driven man, most of the time you forget he has a handicap. most of the time we are running behind him trying to keep up with him. god's hand print was all over this situation. >> a blessing for sure. caitlin and kinsley i see you smiling. how do you feel about folds of honor and your dad and mom? >> i think it is a great foundation. it does so much for a military family that has lost someone or

somebody who has been wounded. >> i love your smile. i know it had to be scary right to snow this was happening to your dad and what a blessing and what joy you must feel to see him racing ahead of him now. is it true you can't keep up with him/. >> you know i think there are so many kids out there who have stories that are similar. they share your heart. what do you say to kids out there in the military to their friends maybe who want to understand what it is like and the sacrifice that your families do make what do you say to them? >> well, since like all of us it is great that daddy sacrificed and i just really love everybody. >> big hearts in this family

22-year-old and 72-year-old may seem like an unusual pair but ask anyone

who knows them and they are definitely a package deal. joining me now with their amazing story of kindness and joining me now with their amazing story of faith collin smith and ernest green. collin you were gravely injured i met him in a rehab hospital. i knew his face but didn't know who i was. i was like wow what is going on here and he was there learning how to take care of me and do things for me. >> ernest you have had a long career you have had a long career with children. what moved you to develop this time in your life to someone you never met. >> i enjoying being able to help

others. collin is the latest in the number of kids that i have done special things with. but, i just have a feeling for people that need some help. >> does that come from your faith? >> that comes from my faith. that is what christianity teaches you. >> tell us about what your relationship is like. the practical element of it. you graduated from north carolina and you helped get collin to class every day. tell us what that meant. >> it meant that i had to be up early every morning. >> how early? >> i got up at 4:30 and at his house at 6:00 every morning and got him ready and got him up and showered and dressed and bre breakfast and school and class and whatever else came along

during the day and sometimes at 8:00 at night getting home. >> that is such a relationship. that is more time than most married people spend together. how deep has your relationship become? >> it is hard to describe. i mean the only reason that you can see what it is, is if you have time away and we have had a couple months away and i have gotten to think and see actually what he does for me. there is no way to describe it. >> ernest a christian group is making a movie about your relationship called "package deal". >> my initial reaction was no way. i'm not out to promote myself. and so i wasn't that interested when i found out that it was being done by people that are strong christians and that their

and that's what happened when you sang this. i get a feeling you have a sense of the flag in a way that you can tell us something we can learn from that. >> of course, of course. you know, being in the military you know exactly what this uniform stands for. and what we stand for this country. so it is a lot of people that are just live just to be living. but to understand what the reason for being here, the freedoms that we have, just the different things of people fighting for this country, is a big deal to those men and women that wear this uniform. >> understanding of that came through when you sang that. how has military changed your life? >> well, it was the military or i guess staying at home with mom, you know? mom or dad. i really wasn't a college guy. i really didn't like school. so i had to go to the military, and the military, of course, trains you to study because that's how you advance. so that's where i got my

we couldn't bring everybody with us today. but we have 300 in the choir and it is amazing. >> what is amazing about this group, from all walks of life, this choir must be so special to you. >> it is so special because it is so diverse. we have people from every country, practically, represented so we're, you know, i think heaven is going to be like that. i think everybody from every country will be in heaven and it is just wonderful to work with all of these people. >> i love this, you say talent is easy to come by. not to those who want to gloir p glorify christ, what do you mean? >> the whole purpose of our ministry is to glorify christ. so we want to have people in the choir that really love jesus christ and want to minister to hurting em. >> back here, you have lawyers and professionals. it is so obvious you love what you do. thank you for coppiming down an making our christmas special more special.

>> thank you. >> let's send it over to steve. >> it is easy to find yourself consumed by the stuff, you know, the gifts and the food and the whirlwind of activity surrounding christmas. it is always important to remember the true meaning of this very special day. right now, joining us is the archbishop of new york, timothy cardinal dolan. >> a blessed christmas to you and all of fox. good to be with you. >> merry christmas. we invited you here tonight to give us a christmas message. >> sure, sure. you know what, it is all about a baby. now, a lot of people listening now know the transformation a baby can make in your life. a baby, the arrival of a baby changes one's identity. becomes a father, a woman becomes a mother. the center of your life is on that baby. focused on that baby. that's what god the father intended when he said the son jesus christ is a baby. when you think about it, steve, a baby is at the center of history. everything in history is dated from the birth of that baby

before christ and after christ. and that baby is intended to be the center of our lives. that's the christmas message. and as the arrival of the new baby is almost an affirmation from god that life, that that family is meant to go around that's what god the father says when he acceptsends us his only begotten son. >> even though we're at the end of the year, it is the start of something new. >> christmas, as catholics, we start the year with the first sunday of advent, four weeks preparing for christmas. christmas always does bring renewal, right? a renewal of hope and promise. christmas morning, i can remember, steve, looking at my mom and dad. my dad worked hard. we didn't have much. i can remember my mom and dad just for the sense of peace and joy and contentment, looking at their five kids and it just gives hope. you know the story of how date wise, the birth of the son comes very near to the rebirth of the

sun when the sun is at its lowest and begins to be reborn, with the winter solstice, that's when we celebrate the birth of the son of god. and that means winter doesn't ever last long. spring and summer do. the sun continues, light conquers darkness, life conquers death. that's the meaning of christmas. >> that's lovely. when you watch television, you see all the commercials about get this stuff for everybody in your family, got to have a lot of stuff. stuff is good. >> yes. >> but at the same time it is not the stuff in here. it is not the substance. i kind of like some of the stuff too. >> i like turkey stuffing too, by the way. but anyway, yeah, there is a lot of good stuff out there and sometimes i'm tempted to get down with all this flurry of buying and consumerism, but i think, you know what, these people out shopping 99% of them are buying stuff to give to others so that sharing, that generosity, that giving, but we

>> i was driving from my home in quincy, illinois, to my internship in jefferson city, missouri, i was going to church that morning and i was three miles away when a car pulled into my lane and head on collision, and at first i didn't know what had happened, but when the cars behind me, people had come up to me and asked -- asked is this real life. is this really happening? what happened? they told me i was trapped in my car and they had called 911. >> your car was flipped? >> yes, flipped -- the officials believe it rolled and then landed on its side. >> so you were trapped under the car. what is the first thing you asked? >> i asked for them to pray with me, to pray for me and to call my mom. >> which they did. >> yes. >> they did both. did they start praying with you? >> yes, immediately. i asked them pray out loud for me, to pray for the pain and the rescuers would come quickly. >> your angel must have heard it, he was driving down that road, because, father, you are driving by, and you see the

accident. right? >> i see the car slammed off for quite a distance. and i stopped in the lane of cars. i knew there was something wrong ahead. and then when i began to diverge the traffic to come back around, i drove off instead of following the cars that were leaving. >> so many were turning as they were being detoured. you didn't take the detour. you went directly to the site. >> i did, yes. i asked permission to approach, just to anoint katie. >> why? >> anoint people, when, you know -- you do it for peace, every priest does this, they don't pass by. that's what they do in hospitals. they pray for people who are sick. >> when you approached katie, katie, you were praying out loud for a while. you had your mom on the phone. father came up, he begins to

pray with you as well? >> yes. and anoints you. you get out of the car and you've been rehabbing, i understand. you then have august 4th the accident, your birthday is when? >> september 20th. >> so katie has her birthday party who shows up? >> father dowling, yes. >> interesting thing, though, had you seen him? >> i had seen him the week after the accident, i was in icu, it was a very short visit, and i do remember it, but it is one of those few things i remember from icu. i'm so thankful we got to meet and on my 20th birthday we really got to talk about that day and it was so special to me. >> your angel remained a mist troy so many because you didn't want credit, you didn't want to come forward. >> i didn't -- i don't watch television much. i'm literally too busy. and a week went by and one of the priests told me, they're looking for you. told one of the priests, no -- >> you're a wanted man.

christmas album "christmas with love." joining me now, the talented leona lewis. thank you so much for joining us here today. such a pleasure to be here with you. and you had so much success in the music industry. you've sold millions of albums. you have multiple grammy nominations and also awards. what inspired you to do a holiday or christmas album? >> well, i think it is timing, really. i just finished my third album, came off of tour, and it kind of just came together really naturally. i sat with simon and we discussed a christmas album. and i wanted to do something that was kind of out of my genre. and decided to go for like a motown feel. and, yeah, like it was so much fun. >> and it sounds wonderful. >> thank you. >> you and simon cowl met during "the x factor." i watched you. a huge fan of yours then. what your relationship like together? >> he's head of my label, so we work together on all of my records really. and, yeah, he's a great guy.

he really looked out to me and for a long time. >> you look like you have a great relationship. what do you like to do during the holiday season. do you and your family have any special traditions? >> yeah, i hang out with my family, we veg all day, like it is a nice couch day for all of us. but right now it is really special to me because i'm on the ready a lot, for the past few years, so every christmas i know i'm going home, i'm just going to relax, turn off and be with my friends and family, and, yeah, just nice to see everyone. >> you like to open with some of your christmas gifts a little early? >> i was so naughty. i used to go and rip all the presents my mom put under the tree, i would make little tears and see what it was and then angle so my mom couldn't see. but by the time it got to christmas day, the whole back of presents were all opened. so she let us open our christmas presents on christmas eve and that's a tradition we have kept. >> same tradition my family and
