night, she did well in the first debate. we saw tulsi gabbard, congresswoman from hawaii emerging, taking harris on over criminal justice. >> senator harris said she's proud of her record as a prosecutor and she will be prosecutor as president but we should be concerned about this record, she put 1500 people in jail for marijuana violations have laughed about it when asked if she ever smoked marijuana. >> i'm proud of making a decision, not just a fancy >> for being a legislative body and give speeches but doing the work. >> people who suffered under your rain as prosecutor, you owe them an apology. >> reporter: speaking of criminal justice senator cory booker had a moment everyone will be talking about all they. watch this. >> you are dipping into the kool-aid and don't even know the flavor. >> reporter: that is a big line. biden did what he needed to do.

the next debates will be in september. we will see if biden can command the lead. the latest fox news poll had him at 33%, going into the debate we will see where he ends up in the coming days and weeks. rob: seems he did better last night. jillian: let's bring in chuck roacha bernie sanders senior advisor, your back around to. thanks for joining us. what is your biggest take away from last night? >> we were all prepared and his team should have been prepared and what we saw happened last night, he was going to get attack from every angle. what we should be looking at is how that will affect these primaries in these early stages. a lot of discussion, had the energy and as such a low bar. i think he takes it out of this because he is so high up in the polls and people looking at him to be the leader, he is the one who supposedly can beat donald trump. it was a bad night for joe biden

because i don't think he responded to all the attacks was it was hard, i give him credit for that, hard to be affected every angle by everybody on stage, literally everybody had their joe biden talking point, everybody had their joe biden sound quick they wanted to get out, some landed better than others but it is nonstop. rob: will he take a drop? a lot of people thought he would have taken a drop by now and he still hasn't, still maintain that solid lead and i think even the you were critical of him last night he distinguished himself as the pragmatic democratic candidate. he stood his ground on a lot of things where the far left is trying to take over. >> when you are that hot i don't think he can go any higher in a primary of 25 people. i think when the primary gets reduced, last night will be a lot more important. the fundraising will tell after that how much of all of those attacks talk to him. did he come across clear in his responses? everybody was coming after him. jillian: i feel like and i heard

this after the fact, the feeling that he was losing steam, can he take the heat long-term? not just tonight in a row. let's take a look at his moments from last night and talk to you on the other side. >> we further support the ability to buy into obamacare. >> not going to have to pay -- >> the future president here that the center is talking about. heather: in his closing remarks he stumbled and said something like visit biden 330, weird numbers and everyone was like -- >> is somebody who has worked with presidential campaigns and gets people ready, really a lot of pressure, the whole world is watching. then you have everybody

attacking you on every angle and you lose focus was the key is being focused on what you're going to say and when the words don't come to you, sometimes the words don't come and they didn't come to the vice president you can look really awkward. the primary voter in iowa will matter the most. rob: let's talk your winners and losers from both nights. you are biased but your overall winner is bernie sanders. >> i worked for bernie sanders but let me make a couple points, bernie sanders was the only person mentioned in both debates and after the debate bernie sanders raise $1.1 million from 70,000 contributions. of that doesn't tell you he won both times. rob: his ideas are the ideas everyone is stealing and using. >> on healthcare specifically last night. you saw bernie sanders mentioned by four candidates on a night -- he was the overall winner.

jillian: your overall loser as we discussed was joe biden. anything you want to mention about joe biden q i want to get your take on how you think kamala harris did, she was touched by a lot of candidates. >> she did good. did she do the best? i think she landed some punches but in some fell flat but for the first time she got attacks, take the tulsi gabbard moment, got attacked and pushed back by the biden moment so i don't think she came out of this on top and standing alone like she did in life debate, polls show where we she will end up and she had a medium performance. rob: she got hit hard on criminal justice stuff. thanks a lot, we appreciate your time. jillian: joe biden gets grilled over the obama administration's deportation and child separation. >> with higher deportation rates resumed. >> looks like one of us is learned the lessons of the past

it shows the insanity of the liberals in the democratic party. >> there's a lot of talk about whether illegal border crossings should be held in camillus of the court. what did you make of that? >> to my opinion it has to be a criminal action that is done. there is nothing wrong with the current immigration system. what is wrong with it is we've made so many exceptions and it is not being enforced. that only encouraged more illegal immigration. we are on track for fiscal 2019, over 1.1 million people to come to the united states illegally and those are folks we counted that are going to come in. rob: you say obama biden policies ushered donald trump into the white house in 2016 but

listening last night joe biden was the only person who said we should be to kick people out of the country when they come in illegally. >> that is what he said. democrats control the house, the senate and the white house two years at least and in that period they didn't do anything to address the issue of illegal immigration. the other problem was border patrol and ice were the 6 children of the administration during those eight years and 2.7 or 2.9 million people were deported, over 7 million people entered the united states illegally, were apprehended and there is a 5 million figure, we don't know what happened to those folks. >> this tweet from donald trump says the cages for kids were built by the obama administration in 2014, he has a policy of child separation, i ended as i realized more

bit, easy to interrupt, not ready for every angle coming at him, what warren and sanders had going in the debate yesterday or two days ago was they had someone to play off of at every turn, joe biden was getting questions. i don't have a lot of love for the proposals made from this stage but he drops down into the pack, joe biden is a member of the field as opposed to the prohibitive front runner and the next few debates when you have elizabeth warren and bernie sanders on that stage with joe biden and you add in cory booker and kamala harris was okay and an interesting mix and it is clear everyone is going after joe biden. >> the first night kamala harris was one of the ones who came out

on top and surprised a lot of people. it seems all the other candidates were geared up for her last night and a lot were taking shots. >> they were. with the exchange with tulsi gabbard, she tried to pivot back to biden, she's trying to shoot up feel like the gap needs to be closed but was not fully prepared for that and she just introduced her medicare for all plan so with that being the first topic she attempted to look like she knew every angle of it but still came off as a little rough, trying to go up against joe biden. rob: it kind of makes everybody mad because it does eventually take away private insurance but also at the same time leaves it in place for 10 years and doesn't implement immediately.

everybody had a way to attack that plan. >> very well said and ultimately they found a way to attack joe biden's plan saying he doesn't cover everybody, 10 million people are not covered and that is indicative of kamala harris, she tried to have her cake and eat it too. also a pragmatist who is willing to work, not quite as far, not a pull on socialist. you saw the attack on joe biden trying to support barack obama when it was convenient but not when it didn't work so well. i don't think anyone came away a clean winner, maybe cory booker. you see people dropping out and all the top-tier candidates on the same stage which i think the real fireworks will start. >> curious to hear what the voters think and people out there, you will be out there all morning.

rob: democrats taking direct aim at the coal industry and the thousands of jobs that come with it. >> end any subsidy, or any fossil fuel. >> why not invest in the green jobs? that is what the green new deal is about. >> the president won crucial rust belt states in 2016 like michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin. are those voters still out of reach for democrats in 2020? with this kind of rhetoric? here to debate that is robert but to low and -- ronald i want to start with you. not just coal we are talking about but anybody that makes cars, the democrats don't want any emissions.

these are critical states they need to win in the rustbelt. is this the best way to do that? >> it is not an assault on cars, what it is, understanding of the realities we are lagging behind china and other countries when it comes to green energy was we are not going to be burning:hundred years to power our nation's power and civilization. we need to start the transition process right now. we are running electric cars by 2030 because detroit is shutting down production on fossil fuel, gas powered vehicles, so a mandate for cars being produced in america to create more jobs and we need to articulate but as we transition from coarsened carriage we are transitioning from oil to electric energy and that is the wave of the future. that is where job growth will happen. in the last 5 years we've seen green energy jobs outstrip fossil fuel job so all they are doing, exactly where job come in the future.

>> when we talk about these critical states people don't like to hear that jobs are disappearing. people say that is how hillary lost 2016. >> the whole reason donald trump won is because he stood up for people who felt they weren't being represented by the democrats in this is going to be a repeat. you would think that the democrats would have learned something but obviously not only have they not learned but they are having to explain their position and when you have to explain your position this means people are not getting it, they don't understand why you are saying this or what your policies are really representing and that is not good because it needs to be more of a simple message, trump had a simple message, one of the reasons why, he wasn't a politician. now this same thing is going into play and these are the

states that play. rob: after watching the debate, goodbye pennsylvania, goodbye auto industry, goodbye midwest. another win for donald trump. they are feeling positive after hearing that rhetoric and here are those critical states, the big four that really a lot of people's opinions won the election, wisconsin, michigan, pennsylvania, three huge lips and ohio is a swing state anyway, by 8%. when you talk about climate change and it is a very important topic for a lot of people but is it important enough to talk this way going into such an important election? >> the discussion on climate change as opposed to being a discussion on jobs is where you get lost, we turn into one of these people his not discussing the impact on jobs for the american people. we have to have a new economic
