is important to me, what i am about and what the right party is and what is important to them and what that's about peer that has really come to a head as i have become mayor. very soon after the whole defund the police nonsense started, activists showed up at my house trying to intentionally scare my family, scare me in changing my clear position that we were not going to do that in dallas peer that was an eye-opener in terms of this party is really serious about protecting the criminal element over the law-abiding folks. and they weren't really going to change periods before i remember going around the country calling all of these different and i remember they tried to shut down in dallas. you were still with the cops when a lot of democratic mayors were anti-cup at the moment. are you still firm? why? >> i am a person of the people. i'm one of the people that grew up in this place and i know with

5:19 am
themselves, "why are we still democrats?" we trust him and he's never let us down. i believe this will actually be a beginning in dallas of black folk saying we need to give the republican party a look, especially today. >> lawrence: what is the message to those out here teetering? if they don't know they can cross over to the republican party. >> get past the sound bites and get past the personality and be honest with yourself what is important to you. >> lawrence: 2024, a lot of candidates in the race. donald trump seems to be the one leading the pack right now. do you plan on weighing in at any point? >> well i don't plan on divorcing him and i've been clear about that peer that has been my policies. i declined endorsing joe biden. when he was running for president. i listen to the candidates names that come to dallas, senator scott, he will sit down with him.

>> lawrence: every republican wants to be on the desk do you want to run for governor? what is it? >> that is the most common question, what is next? who are you running for next? i have one answer for you, nothing. i'm not running for anything. i will be the mayor for dallas and then i'm done running an office. here is how i want to get off of the list. we need more fiscal conservatives and law and order people who have conservative principles. basically, republican principles running for office particularly for mayor. we need more republican mayors. we can afford to let the cities look the way they look right now from san francisco to chicago to philadelphia to d.c. the news is filled everyday with all of this out-of-control lawless behavior. it is because, again, it is a culture of lawlessness. it is lax das on the democratic side and local leaders, mayors on the side that
5:21 am
created this environment. if you look at our governance, fiscal conservative principles, real law enforcement, pro-public safety principles. i am just stating that is the kind of republican i want to be, and we need more of it. >> lawrence: last thing i will say when you look at republicans, they have republican conservative judges. they have got conservative governors, but there has not been a plan to target local d.a.s and local mirrors. and i think him coming to the party to say, "i will lead this effort is really filling the board. >> brian: he is very popular. senator tim scott was quick to go down there and said it is important, also soap you're the best thing tim scott was when president obama attacked him. i thought that was a good idea to go down there and say i have company. hopefully this is the beginning. >> ainsley: we were talking about him and the break. we commented how young he is.
5:22 am
you said it was for dora. and he announced he was switching parties in this great "wall street journal" op-ed and if you haven't read you should. >> steve: we will talk about this race for speaker. this is a rough week for republicans in congress pure there was a coup on capitol hill. in the last couple of hours 12:15 this morning, donald trump came out on true social and essentially threw his weight behind jim jordan. he posted among other things the former president congressman jim jordan has won and making a successful journey to d.c., representing fourth district of ohio. he will be a great speaker of the house and my complete and total endorsement. now, the key though, he is right now you have ski steve scalise on the other side and others as well. but 45 members of congress on the republican side who will not vote for anybody until they
