and it's a fox news alert. our defense secretary lloyd austin is undergoing treatment in the critic unit at walter reed in maryland. the secretary was admitted back into the hospital last night suddenly to be treated for a bladder issue which comes after he spent weeks after being treated for prostate cancer of course we didn't know about it initially. >> ainsley: temporarily transferred powers now to deputy secretary kathleen hix. >> brian: austin's health has been a concern back in december when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. admitted to the icu january 1st. underwent surgical procedure for his prostate he didn't tell president biden or other cabinet members. released from the hospital january 15th and began working from home before going back to the pentagon on the # 9th. here's the thing. they were supposed to go over to ukraine and have a major meeting about the way forward. and now he can't do it. his deputy -- he handled things right this way. clearly he is not in good shape.

meantime another fox news alert. smoke from the rubble in the gaza strip this morning as the idf is saying that they rescued two hostages from hamas. captured during raids just yesterday. >> ainsley: trey yingst is live in tel aviv. what is the latest? >> trey: hey, guys, good morning. major developments overnight. israeli forces complex operation to save two hostages. we understand this mission took place in the densely populated city of rafah. and it involved a number of israeli soldiers just before 2:00 a.m. local time. on the second floor of a building israeli soldiers engaged hamas gunmen in a fire fight before securing fernando and luis harr. >> at that stage the fighters pull louis and fernando out of the apartment and rescue them on the fire. accompanied by idf forces who gave them protection in the area until they reached a safe zone. >> once back in israel the two

rescued hostages were flown by helicopter to the sheba medical center. the air support for the mission included fighter jets and attack helicopters that targeted hamas positions across rafah. health authorities in gaza say more than 67 palestinians were killed in the strikes. currently there are more than a million people sheltering in rafah. this operation to rescue two hostages has really been a relief for the israeli people, giving them new hope and also a controversial point here, remember, just yesterday, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and president biden spoke over the phone. the americans are urging the israelis to be careful when they operate in rafah. guys, back to you. >> brian: real quick, these two hostages, there is a sense they were being held by hamas, one of those other groups that i heard was just grabbing hostages when they came over the border october 7th. >> trey: it's a great question. it's very interesting where these hostages were recovered from. they were saved from a civilian

home. they were on the second floor of the israelis used intelligence to raid the compound and save these hostages. we don't know if they were being held by hamas or organizations like islamic jihad. the fact they were being held in the southern city where some hamas leaders stationed underground in the tunnel network beneath gaza indicates hamas likely knew they were there. guys? >> brian: unbelievable. hopefully more. >> ainsley: are they talking yet? have they said what the experience is like for them? >> trey: they have not yet spoken publicly about the experience. we did see that new video of them at the shifa medical center here in tel aviv. reuniting with the family members. standing on their own. they do appear in good health. yet, another, piece of hope for the israeli people hoping to get to more than 130 israelis still being held by hamas, freed. >> steve: thanks, trey. >> brian: thanks, trey. the corruption with that aid group could linked to the u.n.

unrwa. there were tunnels underneath the refugee center they were actually existing with hamas, with full electricity below these refugee center with the world contributing to hamas, essentially. >> ainsley: right. well, let's talk about some weather. we have a fox weather alert. more than 20 million americans under winter alerts as a snow storm makes its way up here to the northeast. >> brian: boston, providence under winter storm warnings, new york, connecticut and pennsylvania. over to my right janice dean with the fox weather. >> janice: here we go. overnight the national weather service put out a winter storm watch for new york city, the first time in two years. and we are expecting quite a bit of snow. there's the temperature profile here across the northern plains and the great lakes and the northeast. and warm enough for severe storms as well as some snow for parts of oklahoma in towards arkansas. and missouri. you have the potential for heavy rain, not only that, but severe storms including tornadoes today as that cold front associated with this low moves over the southeast.

i want to point out the snow that's going to move across the midwest, parts of the ohio river valley in towards the mid-atlantic. so here's our area of low pressure. it comes up towards the appalachians, tonight and into tomorrow morning. starting off as a rain event, along the coast, and then heavy snow in the midday through the afternoon hours and then the storm will be out of here. now, steve doocy pointed out well, it's going to be, you know, in the upper thirst here in new york city. how are we going to see the snow? it's called dynamic cooling. this storm is going to be so powerful. it's going to make its own cold air. and we are going to see several inches of snow in a very short period of time. new york and long island, you are on the cut off between five to 8 #, even a foot of snow north and west of new york city. that's the jackpot snowfall totals, we indeed are going to have a powerful snow storm. it's going to start happening overnight tonight into tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon. there will be travel delays and cancellations. there will be school closures.

backpack but still investigating the link between the shooter and the child that she was with. that 5-year-old. now to a developing story? miami. nearly 30 people are injured after a tour boat crashes into another vessel in the port of miami. more than a dozen people had to go to the hospital. the coast guard is investigating what caused that crash. and secretary of homeland security alejandro mayorkas is speaking out against the push to impeach him claiming the white house is not responsible for any of the border crisis. >> it certainly is a crisis, and, while we don't bear responsibility for a broken system and we're doing a tremendous amount within that broken system. but, fundamentally, fundamentally, congress is the only one who can fakes it. >> ainsley: the house will vote for a second time tomorrow to impeach mayorkas. he narrowly avoided impeachment by two votes last week. republicans expect the dhs secretary to be impeached once house majority leader steve scalise returns to capitol hill. early voting ended in the

robert hur when he released the documents about the classified documents that were found in joe biden's garage, he called him he was an elderly man with poor memory. didn't remember when his son died. >> steve: so, in essentially in unison with these bad polls, you have got the "new york times" came out with three podesta over op. ed'sover the weekend. maureen dowd talked about when joe biden yelled at the reporters, pushing back at the image of a crotchety grandpa he came across like a crotchety grandpa and russ said the question is not if biden should step aside it's how. and what he suggests is joe biden goes ahead and he gathers delegation right up to the dnc in august. and then he goes, you know what? i'm not going to run and next thing you know there is going to be a fight. that way he doesn't have to get in trouble with not endorsing kamala harris who would lose to donald trump, they say.

complications and wound up in walter reed. nobody knew where he was. this is different. >> it is different, but we are seeing within, you know, just weeks of each other, of each hospitalization that he has to turn power over to his deputy twice. now, a couple things to remember about lloyd austin. he is the longest serving defense secretary in the past 10 years. so he has been in the seat for a number of years. outlasted a lot of the previous nine secretary defs. if you are getting repeatedly hospitalized. you have to remember having a cabinet position especially one in the nuclear chain of command. it's not a right. it's a privilege. this is only something he and the president can earn. >> i do think from a national security perspective, when you have the preference that you had thursday night from the president, and then whenever you have your secretary of defense hospitalized for a second time within a matter of days our enemies are looking at our
