the former south carolina governor leading biden by 8 points. hally doesn't do as well in a possible five way race. in this scenario she loses the lead to president biden and barely edges out independent candidate robert f kennedy junior. trump remains ahead of biden, 41% to 38%. with trump looking like he could secure the gop nomination later this month it's worth comparing numbers with the president's four years ago. 47% of voters said trump's policies made the country weaker, 58% of voters a say the country isn't doing as well under the president's leadership. the biden administration is under water on the economy and national security, but gets the worst marks for border security. 71% of voters think he has mostly failed on that issue. this is not the data the president wants to see days before his state of the union yoaddresswhere he will make ther voters to give him a second term. during the speec speeches expeco

tout the government's achievements, like lowering healthcare premiums, making corporations pay their fair share and uniting the country. it's notable that only 26% of voters think he succeeded in unifying the country so a lot of really, really tough numbers for the president to digest this morning, guys. back to you. >> thanks, madeleine. >> madeleine, thank you. i want to thank fox news sunday for making sure we have the fancy new polls at 9:00 a.m. on sundays and there's really important aspects to this. both trump and hally beat biden in one to one matchups. what's really interesting is when you add in the other candidates. that breaks d haley's argument that she's the one that will win. it will be trump, biden and other candidates. and so what does it look like? comparing haley and trump with
6:05 am
other candidates, trump in the right hand column there still wins if you add in rfk junior, cornell west and jill stein. nikki haley ends up losing because a lot of the numbers that voted for trump seemed to my migrate to rfk junior. she gets beaten by joe biden. we we want to make the electability argument and live in reality, there are probably other people on the ballot. that's where trump's core support, they had say he's got 40% of core support, that's a really important core that doesn't go anywhere elsewhereas hers seems to wo wander somewhee else. rachel: i love when you say let's stay with reality. nikki haley has been treated with kid gloves, the same way john mccain was before he actually won the primary. so she's been treated with kid gloves. donald trump's gotten probably 100% negative press in the mainstream media and so what

happens if she is the nominee, they're going to rip had her skin off and she's not been -- she's not faced the kind of scrutiny and attacks that donald trump has basically withstood for the last however many years. so i think that's another factor that we would need to take into account, that she has not been through the wringer and donald trump, you can't say anything else about him, everything that's been -- you could say has already been said. >> what i found interesting, we can put the poll back up showing the issues, how the voters break down on the issues. the starkest divide is improving border security, although it's no surprise, it's getting more dramatic, 71% disapproval for joe biden and we'll have more on that issue in a moment. what caught my attention was the one above that, unifying the country, that's really bad. 69% say biden has done a boar job of unifying the country. this was if you'll remember -- >> the right column is failed.
6:07 am
>> failed. what you'll remember, that was his initial message that trump divided the country, he unites the country. but what also moving forward his message seems to be centering around saving democracy. the republicans are in line with putin and republicans and donald trump are a threat for authoritarianism and it's an a effort to save democracy. i think that suggests that message does not work. that message -- a because that's in essence in the same vein of unifying the country, right? this shows that joe biden is an incredibly divisive figure. rachel: look at the different topics they had there. on climate change, t the left isn't happy enough on that. the economy, unifying the country, border security, these are not issues that will get better for him in the next eight months. >> this is not just republicans, had this is a dissatisfaction and a lack of enthusiasm amongst democrats which is wh the other poll we pt

the border isn't just national security and increase in crime. the border if you're a working class person, if you put on boots to go to work, you understand that those people coming over are going to you put downward pressure on your wages. that is a decrease in your wages and your opportunity and your future. >> speaking of the border, joe biden and donald trump both made trips to the border this week. border patrol put this up on x. the border parole union said, here's an example of joe biden's schedule board air force one, take a nap, wake up in a place called brownsville. read a large teleprompter message, it's all trump's fault. who were the people in green uniforms, express horror, take a nap. wake up, call in, hit beach, take a nap. that's from the border patrol union. rachel: yeah. majority hispanic border patrol

for trump. meaning if rfk is factored in, and that's a fascinating reality, that trump voters would rather go to rfk, at least a significant percentage of them, than to nikki haley, it's a different calculus. so the question then goes what would the race look like come november. >> that's not an unlikely scenario, where i think it's probably almost a guarantee that we're going to have a third party candidate in the race and it goes to the point, i think that is probably the most important thing out of the polling, it goes to show just how loyal trump supporters are, they're not going anywhere. the flip side of that is that it also is a reminder that trump in that loyalty he also has you unique ability to really tick off certain other voters which is a problem he's going to have to deal with but in a weird way, it's a reminder that rum is also dealing with -- trump is also dealing with somewhat of a floor here and a lot of people in
