to how women should be treated in the workplace. her story is not the only one in the book written by a woman who talks about how he gave them -- gave them a promotion, put them in a place of responsibility, trusted them, and made sure the whole world knew that. he was a man ahead of his time. >> dana: i remember once he came to the white house visiting his son and i heard a noise outside and he was waiting to talk to me. i was on the phone with karl and i said i'm sorry i was on the phone with karl. oh, i love a name dropper. he had come by to thank me for being the press secretary and public service. i love the cover but the book is very special with all of those different people voicing right along with you. jean becker, thank you. >> thank you, dana.

>> dana: have a good day. fox nulls alert. apparent israeli attack hitting central iran for the drone and missile assault last saturday. welcome to a new hour of "america's newsroom." i'm dana perino. >> bill: jean is sweet. >> dana: she is the best. >> bill: good morning at home. well placed sources within the u.s. government say the israeli strike was limited is what we were told late last night targeting a major iranian city base. home to sights associated with iran's nuclear program. the u.n.'s nuclear watchdog says there was no damage to nuclear sites. iran as no plans to retaliate. >> dana: jacque heinrich and council member joe barrely. let's start with rich edson to get a lay of the land at the pentagon. >> good morning. u.s. military sources are saying
7:02 am
that limited missile strike involved no manned aircraft here. it was a strike overnight. it was targeted at an air base in a province that is home to iranian missile production and nuclear facilities including the uranium enrichment strike. hours before the strike the iran administration warned the u.s. and israel against an attack on iran. >> i have announced to the white house, sent a message to the white house, and washington, d.c., the administration in which we reiterated if the israeli regime commits the grave sumperor once again it will be disgraceful for them. >> it downplayed the impact in response to a largely unsuccessful missile and drone barrage iran fired at israel this weekend in response to an

israeli strike earlier this month on an iranian compound in syria that killed several iranian military officials. last evening the pentagon said defense secretary lloyd austin spoke with israeli minister of defense to discuss iran. unclear if israel notified the united states about the strike then or in a separate communication. all this as israel has been fighting iran-backed militia's across the region. attacks from hamas, hezbollah and houthis in yemen. iran is enriching uranium and increased that production according to a number of analysts, they could produce a nuclear weapon within weeks or sooner. dana. >> dana: rich edson, thank you. >> bill: from the pentagon to the white house awaiting response from the president. jacque heinrich has the story now from there. jacque. >> good morning. officials here tell me not to expect any comment from the white house this morning in an apparent effort to let tensions cool.
7:04 am
now last night quickly through u.s. sources, we learned that israel had carried out this strike, which it has still not taken responsibility for. and that israel gave the u.s. a heads-up and those sources also emphasizing the u.s. was not involved in this. but on the world stage, it appears the aim is to say very little in order to de-escalate. >> you saw israel on the receiving end of an unprecedented attack but our focus has been on, of course, making sure that israel can effectively defend itself but also de-escalating tensions. avoiding conflict and that remains our focus. again i won't speak to anything other than to say we were not involved in any offensive operations. >> the g7 countries called on iranian proxy groups to cease their attacks. hamas rejected that. official telling reuters this morning we call for expanding the scale of the engagement
7:05 am
against the israeli occupation in response to the war of genocide in gaza and the escalation in the region. now that is notable from hamas because irgc officials are posting images on their telegram channel portraying the attack as insignificant showing what appears to be manipulated stock images of available drones suggesting that is what was used and emphatically denying that any missiles were used. iranian official said there were no plans to respond and state media reports made no mention of israel. that's notable because they said they would deliver a severe response to an attack on its territory. the u.s. and g7 countries are talking about sanctions if iran continues to destabilize the region. a new package of sanctions targeting iran's defense military base. it didn't touch its oil production, bill. >> bill: more news when we get

it from the north lawn. >> dana: robert greenway the principle architect of the abraham accords. listen to the iranian president from the attacks last weekend. >> this operation became a sign of the islamic republic and its forces and determination of our nation and wise leader, commander of all forces. this move was necessary, a source of pride and power for our great country. >> dana: i know he has to say that. they were running footage of wildfires in texas and chile to show the effect on israel when they didn't have much of an effect. iron dome worked and allies working together worked. where does this go from here? iran's missile range. a map you could speak to. you were putting the abraham accords to have allies to beat it back. robert?
7:07 am
>> yeah. i think in the end we've seen a deference of escalation but it is not done. they have both climbed the escalation ladder and no going back down. ament matly what we're seeing is an escalation to direct conflict and only a matter of time we're back up again. iran's perspective on israel is an obstacle to the objective. the range for its missiles and abraham accords. the rest of the region doesn't have the capabilities israel does and they are vulnerable. iran extends its influence in the ridge on and the principle part of its objective here. >> bill: a report one of the leaders of a brigade was taken out from the idf on the west bank. since you were such a critical part of the abraham accords and we've asked this to other guests
7:08 am
earlier in the week, when you think about the reports of saudi arabia and uae and jordan defending israel last weekend, it is my feeling that the region has changed and the egyptians, jordanians, saudis aren't going back. do you agree with that? if so, what is the future now? >> i agree with it certainly. i think it is a matter of time. all of them recognize normalizing diplomatic relations with israel is key to their future. they can't defend themselves and to do that they need u.s. support and assistance. that's mostly in the provision of equipment and capabilities. closer relationship with israel helps that, no doubt. the problem we mains as long as the u.s. is providing unlimited access to iran in terms of resources because of the policy of appeasement iran threat continues. the signal is the u.s. changes
7:09 am
course, confronts iran and embraces israel and partners and allies in the region the accords will expand and grow and that's what we all should be seeking. >> dana: we'll pay attention to it. a busy week. maybe a quieter weekend we can hope. >> bill: please come back. meanwhile the war in the middle east reverberates at home. more than 100 arrested at columbia university on manhattan's upper west side. they set up a tent city on campus. among those busted is the daughter of elan omar. joe barrely is back with us in studio. the mayor came out and said the rhetoric was vile on behalf of the protestors. we've seen a lot of that in this city over the past week. where do you think it is now. >> when i first saw the videos of protest from wednesday night i thought it was from her an and ramallah. it was the upper east side of manhattan. the mayor is right.
7:10 am
a thin veil between folks coming out against the israeli government for a free state in palestinian and the anti-semitism we're seeing on campus. i'm glad the president of the school made the right call. we should be clear she made the right call because she saw what happened to her colleagues after people in the house republican conference put pressure finally on these elite institutions to finally address their anti-semitism on their campuses. >> dana: elan omar from minnesota. her daughter was arrested at columbia. we have pictures of that. i feel like that's what they wanted. you want to do this and want attention and you have a record to prove it. that happened yesterday. here is an exchange that ilhan omar had with the columbia university president on wednesday. >> have you seen anti-muslim protests on campus? >> i have -- we have had pro-isly demonstrations on
7:11 am
campus but not. >> a protest against muslims or arabs. >> no, i have not. >> have you seen one against palestinians. >> no. >> have you seen a protest saying we're against jewish people? >> no, i have -- >> thank you for that clarification. there has been a rise in targeting and harassment against anti-war protestors. >> dana: interesting. we cover this closely. two students on the other day from columbia. they had gone to the protest where you said you couldn't believe it was america and they were burning the american flag. this one young student, his back of the shirt catches on fire and she is trying to say this is not happening? >> even a school like columbia with a rich history of allowing students a lot of leeway to protest, you don't have the right to take over public spaces on the campus or make jewish students and faculty and neighbors feel harassed and threatened and intimidated in your neighborhood. when joe biden is talking about
7:12 am
forgiving student debt not talking about the kids in engineering schools or taxi drivers taking night classes. he is talking about these entitled kids out there harassing their jewish neighbors and jewish co-students. >> bill: one of the larger points i think ilhan omar is trying to make. people aren't protesting against individuals and relation and race they are protesting against government. in some of the video we saw just yesterday they are banging pots and pans and calling i assume them to be jewish students walking through the israeli flags call them pigs. repeatedly. >> i was in -- i saw what hamas did to people who lived there. young people the same age as those kids at columbia university. when you say i am hamas you are being a terrible person frankly and you should be equated with the murderers you are out there defending. you don't have a right to say
7:13 am
you are hamas when it is used to threat en jewish students that go to school with you. >> dana: do you think alvin bragg who has president trump in court will prosecute these students who got arrested? >> based on all historic president of what he goes after, people that are committing any type of anti-semitic action i wouldn't be surprised and certainly not people arrested wednesday night for attacking police officers. those people are out now and probably back protesting. >> bill: thank you for coming in. you told us when you sat down that you are getting sick of new york. >> it is getting there. they are working overtime to break people like me. >> dana: we are lucky to have you. thank you for coming on our show as well. thank you, joe. >> bill: thanks for being here. >> i have to be released of the gag order. they are taking away my constitutional rights to speak. that includes speaking to you. i have a lot to say to you and i'm not around to say it. >> bill: the former president before he went to court. now in court and jury selection

7:23 am
candidate biden said i will go to war with gasoline. the day after the election crude oil prices ticked up the day after the election and never looked back. that was what their mission was, to get prices so high we would buy e.v.s. we're not buying e.v.s but suffering. >> dana: the high prices. >> bill: mortgage rates. >> dana: i said 7%. >> bill: that's not good. we talk to folks in the office and younger and coming into the market and faced with these prices and they kind of grew up with rates being super low. historically low. and -- >> they were low for 40 years. >> bill: then you ask how long will it take before we get back to that point again? >> boy, i don't know. i mean, it is going to take a long time. the saying on the street now higher for longer with respect to interest rates and inflation. giving you an example. home affordability hit an

all-time low. the low is several decades. all-time low in october of last year. we're barely above that right now. only reason we're a little above that is some of the prices have come down. again, with these mortgage rates, it is crazy. >> dana: do you hear from any republicans, from president trump or any of the other republicans on specifically what policy would they promote in order to help get prices down? >> i do not. the one i hear most is drill, baby, drill. i like that. i really honestly wish we would build some refineries here. the last major refinery was built in the late 70s. guess what? we drill for sweet crude but have refineries that refine sour crude and why we export so much right now. i would do that. listen, i know not my backyard thing. enough places out there to build brand-new refineries and who would be smart, natural transition to alternatives beyond fossil fuels will take another 30 to 40 years. natural progression.

and i think not just as a jushgs but -- jew but as an american even more so. some of the clips you showed it is getting quite extreme. it is useful because it takes the mask off of what was under the surface of a lot of what we've seen. there is a lot of americans out there who have human sympathy for palestinian civilians caught in the crossfire. this is not that. this is glorifying violence and not calling for free palestinian, this is calling for destroy israel. and most tellingly as you showed in your clip, it is for death to america, destroy america, too, which i think shows that this is add its core, this virulent edge of protest is not really about israel or palestinian. this is about arguments and very deep fissures in american society projected and used to

play act this out. it is a threat to america, i think, much more so than to israel. we need to wake up to this and figure out how to address it. >> dana: the other day on his call me back podcast they were saying if you google, search anti-semitism and put in any century you would be shocked. the a.p. has a new poll out says anti-semitism is at historic levels. 24% of americans hold those beliefs. 27% find it somewhat acceptable. you also had this headline from the "wall street journal" that gaza protests at colleges open a generational divide. we might be seeing that as 100 students at columbia got arrested and they had to call home, what happened to me and i was suspended as well. lessons you learned from your dad about combating this kind of hate, is there something that sticks out that you can share with the rest of us that we can

pass on to others? >> well, something he cared deeply about, and i do, too, in the polls you showed i think one data point didn't come up but you expressed it is that anti-semitism is highest among the youngest americans, which is the most worrying thing. that's the next generation and particularly at these schools you show, the next generation of leaders. and i think as my dad did, and i do when i can it is important to speak out and call it out for what it is. and these instances it is very clear. and i think administrators, people in positions of authority need to do that because they have had double standards for a long time. we all know it and have seen it. and i think this could be a good opportunity to apply an actual standard. i think free speech should be alive and well but not intimidation, violence, harassment on these campuses. and i think what is really needed is instead of being out

harassing their fellow students, these kids should be in the classroom debating this with logic and reason and learning how to work in a democratic system, which is the whole point what our universities are supposed to be. i think we need to push our education system away from this activist mindset back to a finding truth mindset. have people debate and talk and not just use slurs and slogans and not post tiktok videos that are pushed by the chinese government to exacerbate all these problems and it's not just jew hatred but self-hatred and hatred of america among this rising generation. >> bill: i especially like the point a danger more to america than it is israel. that says a lot. daniel, good to see you again and thank you for coming on. >> thank you for having me. >> bill: best to your mom. >> dana: showdown over foreign

legislation with democrat votes. >> thomas massey opposed the gamut for ukraine and israel in the rules compaty last night. >> i'm concerned that the speaker has cut a deal with the democrats to fund foreign wars rather than secure our border. >> some conservatives demand that johnson include border security in the package. massey is on board with the plan to evict johnson from the speaker's office. there are 13 -- 16 democratic yays on the board on the democratic side. extremely rare on a rule vote. that's a big deal. dana and bill. >> dana: we'll pay attention and they have votes tomorrow. that's unusual. you'll be on top of it for us. >> bill: a lot of it will be wrapped up if they go forward. the speaker was asked about it a moment ago and roll the tape. >> do you worry about your job? >> i don't worry, i do my job. >> is it time to put the motion on the floor? >> we'll see what happens.
