>> working around the clock to free the remaining hostages just as we have freed hostages already. and here with us today is hersch goldberg poland and still -- is he not here with us, but he is still being held by hamas. >> ainsley: herb one of the five known americans still being held by hostages or as hostages by hams. we have interviewed his parents before. the testimony in the now infamous karen reed murder trial continues in a massachusetts court today it. follows a dramatic day of testimony on friday. emotions were high and witnesses clashed with defense attorney. reid accused of hitting and killing police officer boyfriend john o'keefe with her car in a boston suburb back in january of 2022 killing him and leaving him to die in the cold. her defense attorneys, however, are accusing local and state police of a mask conspiracy to frame her for his murder. she was charged with second degree murder.

video shows the moments former red sox pitcher austin maddox is arrested in florida as part of an underaged sex sting. he and 27 others are accused of soliciting sex over the internet from people that they believe were minors. the arrest report saying maddox agreed to meet an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl at a prearound location. maddox's lawyer says he plans on pleading not guilty. president biden heads to new england today with campaign stops in new hampshire and boston on the schedule. this as his campaign announces it has $192 million in cash on hand. but, for the first time, this election cycle, the trump campaign has out-fundraised the biden campaign. trump bringing in $76.2 million in april compared to biden's 5 million. bill maher and our very own greg gutfeld clashing over former president trump last night but agreeing that the country is

and it says as major corporations, many seeing record profits overcharged the american people. so the white house is blaming the businesses. and in some cases keeping prices elevated despite inflation falling. president biden is taking unprecedented action to deliver relief for middle class families. >> steve: they go on to say we are standing up to corporate price gouging at the core of that fight. of course, you know who he is blaming, he is blaming republicans and is he blaming big corporations. but, here's the thing. we heard the announcement a couple of months ago about how the biden administration is trying to protect people by getting rid of billions of dollars worth of junk fees, right? so, right now, the airlines are suing the administration because they say you know, we don't want to disclose fees upfront. credit card companies are suing the administration over that new rule that would cap credit card late fees at 8 bucks, which would be great. and drug companies are suing the

administration over the inflation reduction act that would make it cheaper to buy drugs if you are on medicare. >> lawrence: one of the companies that has decided to lower their prices with target. and they are lowering the prices when it comes to milk, meat, bread, seed soda, fresh fruit, snacks, yogurt, snacks and so on. i did some research on the company. the last earnings call didn't go so well. it looks like they are trying to compete with walmart as well. they also compared to last year they let $25,000 -- 25,000 people go. they have had record amount of theft. the question is how are they able to get the prices down when they are experiencing all of these losses and i think it's just a sign of the times, if they want customers to come back, they have to do something. >> ainsley: yeah. target, one of the executives said we know customers are feeling pressure to make the most of their budget, target is here to help. they want to do this ahead of memorial day weekend, this

weekend, fourth of july and back to school. they said you can also save an additional 5% if you get one of those target circle cards. but they are lowering prices on 1500 items to start. and then they said thousands of more price cuts are planned for the summer. >> steve: and do you know what, lawrence, you are absolutely right. on wednesday they reported their first quarter earnings and down 1.7%. ains this is going to help them. >> steve: it's the first time they have ever been down in seven years. what they're looking at is looking at other companies who have cut prices. and, do you know what? customers are flocking to those places because everybody is looking for. >> lawrence: trying to get a bargain. >> steve: everybody wants a deal. how many people have stopped shopping at grocery stores and now go to the dollar store. how many people go to costco or b.j.'s and sam sam's club and sk up on so much stuff. >> ainsley: costco saying going to increase prices.

keeping 1.50 hot dog deal. when they're increasing price on the -- what did you say yesterday in the virgin olive oil it's going up to like $25? >> lawrence: that's right. to that point, ainsley. that's what i worry about with these cost cutting. it doesn't seem like they can afford to do it. is it sustainable. i think to the company's point. they will try to do whatever they can at the moment. we have talked with some guests about. this it looks like a lot of folks living paycheck to paycheck. and they display what is happening in biden's economy. watch. >> this administration, promised me a cap sit toe but handed me instead of a cup of joe overflowing with inflation. >> i do most of the shopping in my home and the prices were through the roof. >> inflation is still out of control. there is no relief, any, you know, insight. is he not doing anything. >> inflation keeps going up so everything costs more with raising kids. >> very hard being a college student in this day and age, especially for myself. i work four jobs and difficult with all inflation.

>> i think we're too busy worried about putting food on the table. worried about inflation. >> working some of the wealthiest counties and zip codes in the country. and despite that, i could tell you that our customers are, you know, some of them are sweating their bills. >> lawrence: steve, to that point, it's not just us and the people we talk to. "the washington post" puts it this way. polls show american people favor former president donald trump over biden on economic issues. and i think it's just -- it's not a partisan thing. but, when people are going to the store, or they are going to the pump gas, and they see the costs up, they compare it to four years ago, and how they are able to. >> ainsley: where are you going to go? you are going to go to target with the prices are lower. >> steve: go to costco where can you buy in bulk. >> ainsley: not if you have a small apartment in new york city. >> steve: that's definitely a problem. >> ainsley: there is no room in my closet. >> steve: they are pulling their hair out. inflation will not go down.

he was the surprise witness here at this trial who actually really blew up this case. and the defendant said exactly that, quoting a reporter, saying it was some explosion in the courtroom. >> this is a bomb being dropped on the prosecution's case. this is cruising for prosecution credibility. >> eric: robert costello, a trump ally is, a well-known new york lawyer. you may remember last week he stunned observers by telling congress he heard a completely different story from michael cohen than what cohen told the jury it. was back in 2018 when cohen was raided by the fbi. and costello gave him some advice. cohen told him donald trump was not involved with paying stormy daniels and that trump did not even know about it. on the stand yesterday, costello testified that, quote: michael cohen said numerous times that president trump knew nothing about the payment to stormy daniels. he said this numerous times.

costello also told that to fox news. >> i kept on going back and suggesting to him listen, michael, if you have something truthful on donald trump, now is the time to cooperate. and he kept on saying over and over again, 10 to 20 times "i swear to god, bob, i don't have anything on donald trump." >> eric: as for michael cohen he is finished with his testimony. the prosecution rested. he stuck to a story that stormy was paid by the former president, so her claims will not hurt presidential campaign. he not only repeatedly lied in the past, even under oath. but stole money from trump, keeping $30,000 for himself that was supposed to go to an it company. there was a dramatic moment in court as robert costello testified at one point he was muttering under his breath saying this is ridiculous. he was rolling his eyes. that really ticked off the judge. judge juan merchan ordered

everybody out of the courtroom. he completely cleared the courtroom. even turning the cameras off. you can only presume that he read robert costello the riot act, telling him to behave. costello back on the stand this morning for more testimony. back to you. >> steve: eric, i read that closing arguments are going it start may 28th, the day after memorial day? >> eric: yeah, that's what the judge said they set next tuesday for the closing arguments. so, you know, steve, we may get a verdict, possibly next week when it goes to the jury. >> lawrence: thanks so much. i wish the judge would have the same energy when stormy daniels was testifying. >> ainsley: um-huh. >> lawrence: i think people will respect the court if the judge is outraged when both people on both sides are out of line. since the judge allowed it to happen and then wanted to admonish mr. costello, i don't think that's fair. >> ainsley: she is talking about seeing ghosts and the specific details of her alleged affair, he will allow that in court.

but then when it comes to costello telling him not to roll his eyes. and then you have michael cohen. did you steal from the trump organization? he says yes, sir. >> steve: that's a headline. that's something new. all right. so let's go from that criminal trial to the potential trial down in georgia. today is primary election day in five states across the country, including georgia. and it's interesting because voters there will decide whether two key players in the donald trump cases get to keep their job. one is fani willis, of course she is the one who brought the indictments against trump and 18 others. and the sorry superior judge scott mcafee randomly assigned to the case. they are both on the ballots, and it will be interesting to see if they survive primary day because if either are ousted, it could actually slow down the case, obviously. >> lawrence: so, ainsley, fanny is doing a media blitz and she went to hard news rachel maddow

to make her pitch to the voters. this is what she had to say. watch. >> i am at a point where i need fulton county voters to get out and vote. i need people around the country to support me, big and small, to say that we are going to be a country that still believes in the rule of law. we are not going to allow people to be attacked while they do their job. having prosecutors that are free from interference and are allowed to just look at cases, look at the facts,and if people brought -- broke the law, to bring charges has to go on for us to live in a free society. >> ainsley: she believes in the rule of law yet she is under investigation use of taxpayer money during her relationship with the former prosecutor nathan wade and could come under scrutiny new body prosecutorial oversight panel. it's new disciplinary board. and it was a law that was written by the republican controlled legislature and signed into law by the governor. what this board does, they have the power to remove prosecutors

from cases if there is misconduct. and she was also telling rachel, she said that they want to tell us how to prosecute, who to prosecute, and where we should put our resources. >> lawrence: she is making the case that georgia is coming after her as well as all the rest of -- they created this board because there was a record number of minors that became d.a.s. she is not siding -- there was evidence the judge essentially had to tell her either way goes or i got dismiss this case. if you need an oversight board it, would be for a moment like that. she takes no responsibility for that as well. >> steve: she does have one democratic challenger today, and if she wins, fani willis then she will face a republican in november. one thing given the fact both she and the judge are incumbents and name recognition across the country they both made a boat load of dough, national money. >> ainsley: people don't like donald trump and in support of

national security council under president trump he joins us right now from chicago. richard, good morning to you. >> good morning, steve. >> steve: amal clooney that doesn't surprise you, does it. she has been called in to help icc in the past. >> it's just one more antidote here of what a kangaroo court this is. this is not serious. this is not about the law. not about international law. this is about lawfare. that is to use a system of law as a weapon of war. this is a kangaroo court that supposedly is a court of last resort that is now targeting a democracy in israel that has a functioning court system. and, by 9 way, is not a member of the icc itself. international criminal court. they never signed the treaty that makes you subject to their rules. and so if you are a democracy, you have a functioning court system, you have various ways of holding yourself accountable, just like we do in the united states, you are not supposed to be subject to their jurisdiction. so what have they done? they have gone and interviewed

hamas. gone and interviewed hamas allies in gaza. we have the evidence now we can indict israeli prime minister. the defense minister. it's hogwash. but guess what? it's serious business. it's not just israel today as you said, steve, it's the united states tomorrow, there is an active investigation by the icc into american soldiers for alleged war crimes in afghanistan. so, if we want to stand by and watch this super national court, this kangaroo court start walking indictments against democracies that aren't even members of the court, we're going to be next. >> steve: you never know, now, as you pointed out, we are not members of the icc, and neither is israel. they currently have a budget, a little north of $200 million. and richard, their biggest donors are japan, germany, the united kingdom and france. and i haven't heard much from any of them regarding these indictments. but you have a plan to essentially use the financial

systems of the united states, to put the squeeze on them. >> that's right. remember, president trump actually did issue an executive order to threaten sanctions against the officials at the icc as at the time four years ago now, we're looking at this type of action either targeting israel or the united states, and they did back off. now, president biden it withdrew that executive order. so now we are left with no tools right now to pressure this organization or its funders. so we need reconstitute that sanctions regime. not just targeting the prosecutor and other officials there, but also targeting the money flow. our financial sanctions, if we impose them on the i scrmplet c itself. would say to any bank you can't process the transaction for this kang room court. you can't fund and finance and allow money to flow to lawfare against the united states and israel. and then we gold to our closest allies, who fund this organization to say to the

>> janice: good morning, everyone. we have tornado warnings in nebraska. let's zoom on in just west of the omaha area. several tornado warn storms. this is doppler radar indicating rotation in several counties here just west of omaha harks nebraska. and, within this cluster, we also have severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flooding occurring. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 7:00 a.m. local time for nebraska in towards iowa because these storms are moving eastward. past 24 hours you can see the tornado warn storms for parts of colorado toward nebraska. and taking a look at the severe weather threat today, another high alert for the midwest but we could see strong storms from texas all the way up towards the great lakes with a bulls eye here east of omaha towards des moines, davenport, convincey, illinois. and this is going to be a big deal where we could see the potential of at least ef 2 tornadoes, very strong winds. and heavy rain that could cause flooding. so, yet, another day of severe

knee injury, she worked her way back. but was first place until this -- the transgender athlete wanted to compete. >> it breaks my heart. but this should not be surprising to anyone anymore because the story is virtually the exact same every single time. this is becoming more and more common. it's seemingly a mediocre man who decides to switch to the women's team who becomes a record smasher and that's exactly what we have seen here. the photo, this boy is -- they are in eighth grade. this boy is built. he has bigger biceps, his legs are built. look at him compared to the rest of the girls. i want to commend the second place finisher the rightful winner ainsley wilson her face wasn't blurred which means she was okay with putting her name and face out there. i think that's applaudable. that is something that is i understand the risk. i understand the threats. but she deserves to be deemed and called the champion. >> ainsley: this is purely about fairness and making sure the girls are safe.
