and abc news, good night. the front of an ac transit bus smashed and caved in, two cars badly mangled, one a block away, not even on the street. this is the afternoon math of a bad crash in oakland. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. >> more than a dozen people were injured in the collision that happened at 54th and international boulevard. >> what caused it? we don't know yet, but many of the injured were taken to the hospital. here's abc seven news reporter tara campbell, a head on collision friday evening in east oakland. >> an ac transit bus and car colliding sky seven, capturing the aftermath as emergency crews responded to the international

command. >> you know, conditions come in both involving an ac transit bus and reports of people trapped up the block investigating. now a third thing happened. >> the crash happened around 5:00 in the evening near 54th avenue and international boulevard. >> i got three, three patients in a toyota corolla. >> participacion en la calle esta q llego la policia. >> a witness telling us one man had to be pulled from a car. fire crews say three vehicles were involved, injuring at least 14 people. and a spokesperson for ac transit says 12 of those injured were on the bus, including the driver. >> for the information that i have from our crews is that everyone was conscious and speaking on board our bus as for how many people were on board the bus, he says that's still unclear. it does appear that uh- other riders were on board and did not sustain injury, and left the scene on their own accord, he says their road supervision

crew was on scene, talking to witnesses and trying to piece together what caused the crash. the facts seem to suggest that a chrysler 300 was traveling in the southbound lanes of international boulevard. it broadsided another vehicle that was attempting a left turn. the impact between the two cars sent the chrysler 300 over the center median and into the northbound lanes, and struck the temple line one bus head on. >> police investigators were also on scene, beginning their investigation into the accident. tara campbell, abc seven news. >> and we've been sending out alerts about this through the abc seven news app. go to your app store to find and download it wherever you stream. >> new at 11. we have a disturbing story involving an animal rescue shelter. it's located in hollister and got raided by police and the owners are under arrest tonight. they're accused of neglecting the animals they promised to save and find homes for. abc

seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez is live. she spoke with a woman who recently adopted from the couple. lauren, what did you find out? >> dan i spoke to people who both adopted and surrendered animals to this organization just in the past few weeks. they all said they were devastated when they heard the news. hollister police rescued hundreds of animals from inside this home. police made the discovery on thursday. they said cats and dogs were living in deplorable conditions, without food or water, and housed with built up feces. police arrested a couple for felony animal cruelty. they said the two were founders of an animal rescue organization called spca pet palooza rescue inc. >> when i read about it, i was just taken back. it was it was absolutely taken back. >> hollister resident sherri said she connected with one of the organization's founders through facebook last weekend, and adopted two cats on sunday. >> you could tell he cared. he

brought a big bag of food and the ears were clipped, meaning they were spayed and neutered and i was just shocked. i was absolutely shocked when i read it was the two of them that that was arrested. >> police said 200 cats with extreme medical conditions and 13 dogs were saved from the property. the acting deputy director of san jose animal care and services said people may be well intentioned when running rescues, but overcrowding is detrimental. >> just because you can set up another crate doesn't necessarily mean you might have the personnel to actually adequately provide that that care. so it really puts the entire population of animals at risk for people looking to adopt from a shelter or rescue agency. >> asked questions and observe conditions of how they're transported by simply asking, how many animals do you currently have in your facility? >> how much? how many spaces do you have for the animals? is this a facility that you're able to go and visit outside the home

off el toro drive? >> a do not enter sign is posted on the door. we spotted several cats wandering around the front yard for animal advocates like sherri, she hopes people make the right decisions. >> if they're overwhelmed, just reach out for help. you know, there's so many people that love animals. i know there's just so many people that would have been here for them. >> the animals seized, went to different shelters and rescue organizations so they could get the care that they need. live in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> a plane from sfo was forced to make an emergency landing at los angeles international airport for a second day in a row. flight 821 to mexico city had 110 people on board. one of the plane's three hydraulic systems failed. it landed safely just before 430. no one was hurt. passengers were able to catch another flight to mexico city tonight. this was the fourth incident involving a united jet this week. one plane

skidded off a runway into the grass in houston today. the passengers had to be evacuated. a wheel fell off of a plane from above sfo yesterday, damaging cars below and flames shot from the engine of a plane over texas on monday after the engine ingested bubble wrap. abc news spoke with john nance, an aviation expert, to give some context to these events. >> through looking at the numbers, we have about 92,000 flights over the world every day, and that's a lot of hardware flying around and things i don't want to say are routine. when you lose a wheel, that's certainly not. but these are not seemingly connected, this is really the most safe form of transportation. there's no question about that. the numbers really prove it. united says these incidents are unrelated and they are working on repairs. >> today's plane was an airbus a320 in the east bay. >> firefighters are monitoring a brush fire along the san joaquin river. they'll be there overnight. it sent out a large plume of really thick black smoke, a visible across antioch

this afternoon. 50 firefighters responded to the blaze at west fourth street at o street that's in antioch. con fire says it burned about 19 acres of wetland and was contained by 7:00 this evening. no structures were threatened, no injuries at all. of the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, though. >> all right. we are going to turn to our weather and we have to talk about more rain. >> yeah, we've got the storm impact scale back in action. meteorologist sandhya patel is here after a couple of calm days. >> sandy? yeah just when you thought you could enjoy the sunshine for a few more days. we have some rain in the forecast. don't worry though, it's not a weekend washout. uh- dan. and let me show you a live picture right now. dry skies at this hour as we look from our kgo roof camera. here's a look at the level one system. this is one of two systems coming our way this weekend. this first one is going to bump into the ridge of high pressure. so the showers will be very light and very spotty in nature. 8 a.m. in the north bay. you will notice also right along the coastline could see some drizzle around 9 a.m. noontime and that front is

falling apart. there's a lot of clouds left behind tomorrow afternoon, and so it's certainly going to be cooler. so it's a level one this weekend. spotty showers tomorrow. rain and breezy sunday evening. highest totals will be in the north bay. i'll be back with a closer look as to what you can expect for the entire weekend. and some big changes next week. >> all right. thank you. sandhya in the north bay, these boats resting on dry land represent a milestone in the preservation of richardson bay. the boats were the last ones removed after being illegally anchored in the bay off marin county. conservationists say the anchors damaged eelgrass, a vital food source for migratory shorebirds. housing vouchers are being offered to residents of the boats that were removed. >> a spectacular water main break left a mess near stern grove in san francisco. water just shot up dozens of feet into the air. you can see just how high it went from sky seven twice as high as a two story house nearby. look at that. the public utilities commission says an eight inch pipe that connects to a 60 inch main gave out.

california volunteers.k.gov. >> the parents of hirsch, goldberg, poland are calling for a cease fire in the israel-hamas conflict. 23 year old hirsch is originally from berkeley, but last year was living with his family in israel. he was taken hostage by hamas at a music festival on october 7th. >> i don't think that perfection can be the goal in this kind of complex global negotiation. it's how do we find something where everybody gets much of what they're looking for, and everybody also sacrifices a little bit as well. >> and that's the nature of compromise. the regular people are suffering and have paid, and it's enough. it's enough from all sides. it's enough >> talks between israel and hamas over the release of dozens of israeli hostages held in gaza have stalled. >> it's international women's day and this year's local

women's march was done in solidarity with the palestinian people. hundreds gathered on market street in san francisco with a coalition of local feminists, queer and women's organizations. one organizer says this collective resistance honors the fact that violence against women is often linked to war. they marched from civic center through downtown and finished with a big rally on the peninsula. there was a women's hall of fame ceremony for san mateo county. it's a bi annual event to honor women who have made really amazing contributions to the community. tonight, they were recognized for doing things like volunteer work, helping with small business survival, lgbtq equity work, and child care expansions. six women were inducted to this hall of fame, including four adults and two teenagers. >> the countdown is on. we are a little over one day and 16 hours away from the oscars. and of course, in addition to the films themselves, fashion is also a huge component of the oscars and the red carpet. abc seven news reporter luz pena is in los

angeles with our oscars coverage. the oscars are a time to celebrate film. >> and also a pivotal time for fashion designers to get their masterpieces on the red carpet. >> this one actually attended obama's inaugural ball. >> so before i headed to hollywood, i was on a mission to feature several bay area fashion designers on her oscar weekend coverage. my first stop oakland school for the arts. these are our middle school students, sixth through eighth grade. stephanie verrier is a fashion design chair for the school. you've been very successful as a fashion designer, but i also love that you're giving back to the next generation. >> the students here are just like, they're so talented, and it's definitely proof that if you can give students and children access to resources to the arts, that they can really thrive and grow. and yeah, i get to be part of the next

generation of fashion designers kind of handing down my wisdom and my years of experience in the industry onto them. >> verrier and sacco is a fashion line she created with her business partner and fashion school friend, kimmy sacco. since 2008, success has followed them. >> one of our gowns is going to be archived at the de young museum. it's pretty huge. yeah, yeah, we'll be the only living bay area fashion designer archived at the museum in the couture department, in the back of the classroom. >> i helped her roll out some of her masterpieces. we're bringing these gowns out for you to try on. one of them was featured on vogue magazine this year, and now she's lending me one of her gowns to wear on the red carpet. >> oh my gosh, that color is amazing. >> all right, here's dress number two. oh my gosh. >> yes. >> how are you going to choose. it looks amazing. >> they're both beautiful movie directors and fashion designers

both know it takes years to turn their vision into reality. one of the key players in the bay area fashion world is shereen hashim, founder of san francisco fashion community week. >> i feel that san francisco is all about that. there are so many, emerging artists, emerging designers. >> shereen put us in contact with our next designer, ibibio. one of his dreams is to see his gowns at the oscars. i love this actually, and it fit you well. >> joey kicking it. that's how i work it. just keep kicking it. >> bayo is from nigeria and fashion is in his dna. >> i came from ninth generation of weavers from nigeria. my father is a designer. my mom is a weavers. my parents designed for nigerian royalties. kings and queens. >> everything you design is custom and it's so grand, so beautiful. do you think of your customers as royalty? we have my customer who come here. >> i take them as a royalty. to

>> dan and ama, let me show you what it's going to look like out there in southern california. we're lose is going to be for the oscars outside dolby theater in los angeles. mild and mostly sunny on sunday, 68 degrees. we had some warmth today. felt like spring 72 in san rafael, 70 in san jose. got into the upper 60s from oakland to santa rosa, livermore, santa cruz. it was pretty nice. 65 in san francisco . now here's a look at the temperatures. they're going down this is san jose. average highs in the upper 60s. but look what happens around wednesday thursday friday. the temperatures are really going to soar. and you're going to get a taste of spring returning. but not tomorrow and not sunday. those temperatures are dropping as a pair of systems heading in our direction. tomorrow is a weak system. this system is going to bring us wet and windy conditions. so let's start out with what's happening right now. we do have a few clouds gathering and some fog will be forming as we head towards tomorrow morning. temperatures in the 40s and the 50s. reminder sunday daylight saving time

to moderate rain sunday afternoon evening in the north bay and the wind will be picking up sunday night. everyone's getting in on this action by 9:00. it's starting to slide southward, and at 11 p.m. it continues its journey. now rainfall estimates for both systems a few hundredths around brentwood to a half an inch in ukiah in the mountains, it's a winter storm watch sunday morning to tuesday morning, up to two feet for the peaks, 10 to 18in above 5000ft. a look at the snow projections through tuesday night 14in at donner, seven inches at kirkwood tomorrow morning. 30s and 40s. you will need a jacket and if you're in the north bay, carry the umbrellas, at least for the first part of the day. the rest of you i would have the umbrella handy tomorrow afternoon. you're fine. you'll even get some sun breaks. 50s, 60s. and here's your accuweather seven day forecast, a level one tomorrow, mainly morning, level one sunday evening going into monday morning and then another system on tuesday. once again, we are bringing in low to mid 70s next

at eagle rock is already covered with poppies. >> looks nice, but don't expect a so-called super bloom like 2019, when the town was just swamped with visitors. >> it's been high rainfall. it's been steady since early in the fall, and it's been cooler temperatures, so as long as that sort of stays, i think we'll see some really nice displays this year. >> the message is respect the environment and observe the blooms from a distance. lake elsinore simply can't cope with 30 to 40,000 visitors every day for a month. >> yeah, so it is closed. the hills to vehicle traffic and a conservancy now controls access to the area, so you won't be able to walk in to get close to those poppies. >> all right. well, the warriors were anxiously awaiting mri results on steph curry. >> yeah, larry beil is here with sports. larry steph curry is going to miss some time with that sprained ankle. >> but it's not as bad as it initially looked right there. steph's status next in sports

quarter and steph and obvious pain. of course he's had a long history of ankle issues, but the mri came back clean. no structural damage. definitely not playing tomorrow night against the spurs after that. depends on how the ankle responds to treatment. it's only 20 games left in the regular season for the dubs. the hope is steph misses only a few games back soon enough to help the warriors make a playoff push. >> we're going to miss him if he does have time off. we've been in this position before where he has had time off and we just got to do it collectively and uh- i know he'll, be ready to go when he does come back, whenever that is. we just want to wish him a speedy recovery and to take his time. >> warriors have two games upcoming with the spurs, then they visit dallas and the lakers. those are teams the warriors are trying to catch in the standings. around and around we go for the final women's pac 12 tournament. oregon state and stanford in the semis. cardinal were down as many as 16, but comeback cameron brink with a beautiful pass to brooke demetri. here comes the cardinal hannah jump had a game high 20 points. stanford outscored osu,
