another night, another suspicious fire in a san francisco neighborhood. investigators are now trying to determine if there's an arsonist on the loose. good evening, and thanks for joining us. i'm diane lim. this latest fire did significant damage to multiple homes. investigators think the flames spread from some vehicles to the buildings. what's concerning is how close this fire was to another one at a church. saint john the evangelist episcopal church, just a block away, was damaged early friday morning by a suspicious fire. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke to some people who are worried an arsonist may be targeting the neighborhood. flames ripped

through mission district apartment buildings early saturday morning, injuring two people and displacing ten more. >> the fire, about a block away from saint john evangelist episcopal church, where about 24 hours earlier, another fire forced it to shut the doors of its daytime shelter. >> we were worried that it was the church again, that someone had come back and wanted to finish the job that they had started the night before. >> investigators now saying the church fire was set on purpose, and they're looking for a suspect. >> we were lucky that the extent of our damage wasn't as bad as it could have been, but looking at our neighbor's building, it looks pretty bad. so i'm. i don't know when those people will be able to go back. >> daylight exposing the damage from saturday's early morning fire building seemingly gutted. >> so initial reports told us that uh- vehicles on fire had spread to the buildings. the flames had spread up the back of the buildingngs. these are whate consider ordinary construction or wood frame buildings. these are older buildings. they catch

on fire and spread very quickly. more than 100 firefighters are battling to keep the blaze from engulfing nearby buildings, hitting too close to home for some. >> julian hatfield lives just three doors down. yeah, i mean two, two fires in the street and two nights is obviously alarming . >> and yeah, not not a great not a great place to be staying at the moment. >> as for the cause of saturday's fire, investigators are still trying to determine whether it was intentional. but the reverend says he wouldn't be surprised if the two are connected the same block, the same time, like setting the fire at almost exactly the same time. >> uh- and the night after. it seems like too much to be coincidence. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. we have seen and some wild weather this saturday. >> former abc seven news reporter david louie got this video of hail coming down in san mateo this evening. it didn't last long, though, before

turning into a heavy rain. there was also some hail in the santa cruz mountains earlier today. the viewer who took these photos says there was lightning there as well, and more lightning down in san jose this afternoon. one viewer captured a bolt appearing to strike a plane. the national weather service says most commercial planes do get hit by lightning once or twice a year. now we've seen a little bit of everything in the past 24 hours or so. what is in store for easter sunday? spencer christian standing by, many people hoping for sunshine. >> they'll see some tomorrow. it will be a much different weather picture, but we certainly had some turbulent weather today with those thunderstorms in the santa cruz mountains and down into the south bay over into the mount hamilton area. right now, though, as you look at the looping radar and satellite image, you see what was our storm has weakened. it has moved offshore. it's pushing southward , and we are almost precipitation free right now. here's our forecast animation starting at midnight. notice during the overnight hours there may be a brief, very light isolated shower or two. and

that's just about it. then we start easter morning tomorrow with at least partly sunny skies and going into the midday hours. looks like it's going to be a fairly mild and pleasant day. meanwhile, over in the sierra, there is still a storm. in fact, they went to storm warning in effect for the sierra until 11:00 tomorrow morning. but not a lot of additional snow is likely about 4 to 8in generally in the greater tahoe area and in our area. of course, these are our forecast headlines overnight, a few isolated showers and tomorrow we'll see a mix of clouds and sun. and guess what? sunny skies and warmer weather at the beginning of the coming week. i'll give you a look at the seven days ahead in a few minutes. dionne. >> something to look forward to. spencer. thank you. parents across the bay area are watching the weather this weekend, hoping annual easter egg hunts would not be affected by rain today. in many spots. storm clouds cleared, giving way to that sunshine. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has more on what many hope will be an excellent holiday weekend. >> in three, two,

indoors. we're using the church as the easter egg grounds, and we got eggs and candy secretly hidden everywhere. >> and the kids are having a ball they're just running through and fly. >> church in san francisco helped out at the last minute and opened its doors to families living in the tenderloin. >> usually happen at bodecker park, but because of the rain today, we did not want to disappoint the kids. so glide stepped in as it usually does, and saved the day. >> cornell bernard abc seven news. >> well, meantime, faithful across the bay area attended easter services tonight. san francisco's grace cathedral started its easter vigil in darkness with the bishop lighting a fire to symbolize the resurrection. grace cathedral sunday services start at 8 a.m. there was a big block party in san francisco's castro today called the easter eggstravaganza for local leaders, and tons of community members showed up. as you can see, to celebrate spring with art, costumes and entertainment. a big group of attendees dressed as helen roper

from the old sitcom three's comedy. >> yes, we're all helen, everyone's helen because it's a really good time to get together with everyone and dress up in your wigs and come out and have a good time. >> stanley, how long can you stand to look at something so drab and faded? oh i don't know. >> how long have we been married? oh >> pretty good. there were costume contests for both people and for their dogs. >> plus an adult passport bunny hop, which was a fun quest for drinks and prizes. well, big news tonight in the effort to keep the a's in oakland, abc seven news has learned the city will make an offer to extend the team's lease for up to five years. the a's lease at the coliseum expires at the end of the season, but in their new stadium in las vegas, that won't be ready for another three years. the team is exploring a temporary home in sacramento or salt lake city, but oakland is trying to get them to stay. the offer sheet, obtained by abc

seven, shows the city is no longer asking the a's to change their name when they leave oakland, or guarantee the city and mlb expansion team in the future. the city is set to meet with the a's ownership on tuesday. two developing news now where at least two people are dead after a small plane crashed while attempting to land at the truckee airport. it's not clear how many people were on board. witnesses reported seeing a fireball at the time of the crash, and emergency crews quickly put out the flames. power lines came crashing down, but no one on the ground was hurt. the crash site is blocked off and the airport closed until 7 a.m. that investigation is ongoing. millions of at&t customers information has been found on the dark web. the company is now alerting customers of the data breach, which included highly sensitive information like social security numbers, passcodes and addresses. at&t says the compromised data is from 2019 or earlier, and does not appear to

tiles near mccovey cove. crews dug out the tiles during construction of the mission rock development. the san francisco chronicle reports the team told

people their tiles couldn't be salvaged and their messages would be shown on a digital kiosk instead. fans, as you can imagine, were outraged, saying they didn't even know their tributes to loved ones had been removed. after the backlash, the team told the chronicle they will work on a different display over in the south bay. it was opening night for the bay area's newest team, bay fc. this was the inaugural home game for the women's professional soccer team, and it was a packed house in san jose. abc seven news reporter anser hassan was there as things got kicked off. reporter the goal to win the home opener. >> the first home game ever for bay fc. it was a very good. >> it was really good. the second half. the other team was like attacking a lot, i think. so the ball was more on the on the other side. >> bfc was the first to score, but when the final whistle blew, the houston dash won 3 to 2 at paypal park in san jose. came

>> i'll go pick one up for us. >> okay, great. okay. we'll split the winnings. yes. >> our producers and directors all hours. >> it's all for us. let's take a look at what's happening with our weather. we had some interesting weather during the afternoon and evening. >> yeah, people were a little nervous about it. >> and they should have been, because we had some pretty turbulent thunderstorms with lightning strikes and heavy downpours, hailstones. but right now you can see the energy of this storm has left the bay area. so things are calming down quite a bit right now. we don't even have enough of a storm left to give it a ranking on the storm impact scale. here's our forecast animation starting at midnight. notice going into the overnight hours, we may see a sprinkle or two. that's just about it. it will be isolated and we'll have at least partial clearing to start easter sunday. tomorrow so look for a pretty calm certainly compare with today. a calm day. right now we're looking at calm surface winds with wind speeds generally under ten miles an hour all across the region, and 24 hour temperature change is a little bit of a mixed bag. some locations are 1 or 2 degrees cooler than than at this time last night. some are 1 or 2

degrees warmer. so on we go to a live view from mount tam. even at this hour, we have a nice clear view down onto the bay. it's 53 degrees here in san francisco, 50 across the bay in oakland, low 50s at most other locations. nice view from emeryville. looking back toward the bay bridge. other temperature readings right now, mainly mid 40s in santa rosa, petaluma, napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. so a little chillier up in the north and to our east. and once again, these are our forecast headlines overnight. just a few isolated showers are likely. most of the area will not get any wet weather overnight tomorrow easter mix of sun and clouds. relatively mild, but it will be getting even milder and sunnier early next week. now for tonight. partly cloudy skies overnight. low temperatures mainly in the mid 40s. and then tomorrow we'll look for a fairly mild day with lots of sunshine, but there will be some lingering clouds as well. highs tomorrow. upper 50s at the coast, low to mid 60s right around the bay shoreline and mainly mid 60s in our inland communities as well. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. so a lovely day for easter tomorrow and an

recovery work continues in baltimore after the dramatic bridge collapse earlier this week. crews brought in large cranes to pull out the wreckage to reopen the waterway for ships. abc news reporter chuck severson has the latest. >> the first sections of debris from the francis scott key bridge are now being removed. five days after that container ship lost power and collided with the bridge, sending concrete and metal plunging into the water. >> the north sections of the key bridge are going to be cut up and removed. this will

eventually allow us to open up a temporary restricted channel that will help us to get more vessels in the water around the site of the collapse. >> the governor, acknowledging the impact this is having on the economy and the nation's economy and the nation's workers are relying on us to move quickly and to move together. but admitting the recovery is going to take time and we'll continue to marshal people and resources to ensure that we have everything that we need to do this work as safely, as efficiently and as effectively as possible. president biden approved maryland's request for a federal disaster declaration, which will provide help for small businesses in the area. >> because of this declaration, small businesses affected by the disaster can now apply for disaster loan assistance from the federal government. larry desantis traveled across the bridge every day. >> he says he was one of the last to drive over before the collapse, telling abc's jay o'brien he didn't hear the bridge fall. but says he noticed one thing no one was driving

chase caught on camera where an officer had all the horsepower in this one stop. albuquerque police. >> you are being detained. >> i mean, could you even imagine? look at this horse. i mean, yes, that is an officer on horseback chasing a suspect. last week, albuquerque police say the mounted patrol had just ridden into the neighborhood when staff at a walgreen's reported a shoplifter. the horse caught up to the suspect within seconds. video shows the suspect yelling it wasn't me! as he led the horse and officer into the street. two more officers on horseback showed up to corral the man. corral is the right word. corral? yeah, yeah. he is accused of stealing more than $200 worth of merchandise from the store. could you imagine if that happened in san francisco? every time there was a walgreens theft? i mean, we don't have enough horses. >> we don't have enough horses. let's take a look. what's going on with the weather? our storm has gone, chased away by mounted
