the american economy. >> and she said it wasn't a country album. it's a beyonce album. but the success of her latest album, cowboy carter, making historic waves in that genre. >> good morning. welcome to tuesday, april 9th. >> yes, we're going to start the check of our forecast with drew. >> and it's going to be delightful. today we've got spring like weather continuing warmer weather than yesterday. and that warming trend continues for the next couple of days. a live look from the exploratorium camera this morning. you can see plenty of stars out there. we have clear skies and we're expecting total sunshine throughout the entire day today. now, temperatures this morning need the jacket. most of us beginning in the 40s, 42 right now in sonoma, san francisco just updated a 50 a little bit cooler across the bay in oakland at 4850. in san jose, we're at 46. in livermore. so if you'd like to yesterday, today is equally as beautiful, but we're warmer than yesterday. just a few clouds early on, giving way to just total sunshine throughout the day. along the coast will stay in the low 60s thanks to a bit of a sea breeze,

but away from the coast, around the bay shoreline and inland mid and upper 70s later on this afternoon. so a closer look at those highs today. we're going above average for this time of the year 72. in oakland we'll hit about 67 in the city, 78 in santa rosa, the same in san jose , 77 in antioch, 73 in san mateo. looking nice in santa cruz, lots of sunshine, 73 degrees there. it's even warmer tomorrow, reggie, we'll show you those numbers coming up in a few minutes. looking forward to that. >> thanks, drew. a proposal to change oakland international airport's name may end up in court. the city of san francisco now threatening to sue to block that potential change. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is tracking that story, so it's all coming down to the use of three words. >> it does. reggie the port of oakland board of commissioners is set to meet thursday to consider changing oakland international airport's name to san francisco bay, oakland international airport and it's those words san francisco bay that have san francisco officials threatening to sue oakland airport officials are hoping the name change would

help travelers understand there's another airport in the san francisco area and possibly bring more tourists to the east bay, but san francisco officials believe it will lead to confusion. and they say the name will violate trademarks held by sfo. city attorney david chiu has gone as far as sending a warning letter to the port of oakland. >> we also believe the currently proposed name infringes on sfo's trademarks. sfo has been in operation for almost a century. since 1927, we've used san francisco international airport or san francisco airport throughout most of that history, adding san francisco to it certainly makes it more attractive or more recognizable to those that are traveling, traveling from out of the state, out of the country. >> in a statement on monday, the port doubling down on the proposal, saying the proposed name modification will clarify, not confuse the new name

identifies where o.r.k is actually located, which is on the san francisco bay. if the proposed name modification is approved by the board, the port will take all appropriate measures to defend its right to use this accurate geographic identifier. but a travel industry analyst and marketing expert says the name change would cause confusion for travelers, saying that many might even accidentally fly to the wrong airport. kumasi. >> all right. thank you. gloria. happening today, u.s. health and human services secretary xavier becerra is going to be here in the bay area to talk about the biden administration's efforts to expand health care access for the latino community. becerra will be highlighting affordable health care options available at roundtable discussions in oakland, and there he will be meeting with local health care leaders to talk about mental health and ways to improve overall wellness in the latino community. new. this morning, pfizer just released new data about its rsv vaccine. and amanda, that data suggests the shot could help younger adults

with underlying medical conditions. >> now that's right, kumasi pfizer tested its vaccine in people ages 18 to 59 with underlying medical conditions. researchers saw the vaccine produced a similar response and side effect profile. as in prior studies, they say the vaccine was well tolerated and demonstrated an immune response no different to adults ages 60 and older. the company plans to ask the fda for approval based on these results, but there is no timeline for when it might get approved. rsv is a viral infection that carries the greatest risk for the oldest and youngest people, but certain adults with underlying medical conditions, such as asthma, copd and diabetes are also more likely to be hospitalized if infected with rsv. rsv can affect the lungs and breathing passages of an infected person, and can potentially cause severe illness. in the u.s. alone, among older adults, rsv infections account for about 60,000 to 160,000 hospitalizations a year. back to

you, reggie. >> thanks so much, amanda. if you bank at first republic, i know you don't. as of next month , jpmorgan chase is taking over the san francisco based bank. existing accounts will convert to chase accounts over memorial day weekend. first republic's 25 bay area locations will close may 24th. ten will be remodeled and reopened with new branding, 15 of them that are within a mile of existing chase locations will close permanently. and this morning, an economic warning from the man in charge of jp morgan chase. he's still concerned about inflation and believes we might be in for more interest rate hikes. here's abc news reporter lionel moise this morning. >> the leader of the nation's largest bank, jp morgan chase, is sounding the alarm that inflation could soar beyond 8% in the coming years, despite recent figures showing inflation has been cooling. in his annual letter to shareholders, jamie dimon said there has been too much emphasis on the short terme and not enough focus on long terme trends, writing huge

fiscal spending, the trillions needed each year for the green economy, the remilitarization of the world and the restructuring of global trade. all are inflationary. >> you've got the russian war in ukraine and the impact that's having on energy markets, oil markets, natural gas markets. you've got the conflict in the middle east and that's disrupting supply chains and also is a threat to energy prices. and then just the rising tensions between the us and china. >> while experts agree on the economic impact of conflict, not everyone is on board with diamond's latest statements. >> you got to be humble when you're forecasting anything, particularly the economy. >> in 2022, diamond predicted a hurricane would hit the us economy, later admitting he was wrong. but his new warning reflects the pain of many households struggling to make ends meet. >> i love honeycrisp, but eight $9 for a bag of apples now that's not good. >> while inflation has fallen from a peak of more than 9, it's

still higher than the fed's target of 2. >> but experts say it will take time for an everyday american hearing. this headline. seeing these stories, what would your message be to them with each passing month? >> things are getting better. there's problems. there's issues. there's always risk. but the best scenario, the most likely scenario is that, you know, this economy is going to continue to be resilient and perform well going forward. >> in his letter, diamond also focused on the future of the economy, touting the impact of artificial intelligence, saying it could be as significant as the printing press or steam engine. he also highlighted the need for diversity, equity and inclusion programs, saying banks and companies must earn the trust of their communities. lionel moise, abc news, new york all right, if you haven't done your taxes yet, you need to get on it because the deadline is this coming monday, april 15th. >> some changes to know about this year. the standard deduction and tax brackets have been adjusted due to inflation. clean vehicle credits kicking in and home energy credits have

expanded. however, the child tax credit it's the same as last year. if you can't get it together by monday, you can file for an extension. you should note, though, that payments are due april 15th, so if you need an extension that's just an extension to get the paperwork in. >> it doesn't shift your financial responsibility. >> if you do file an extension, you have until october 15th to get the return in order. if you missed the deadline monday and you don't file anything, the irs will be penalized you for every month you're late. time now 508. >> we'll take a look at the travel forecast. if you're heading across the country, it's really quiet in most cities. southern california, near 80 in l.a. today, new york, chicago, denver. major hubs, no issues there. atlanta, though, is going to see some soaking rains later on today with a high of 67 and looking nice in seattle. even honolulu, a high of 81 with a chance of an afternoon shower.

live look outside. here is sfo this morning. we have clear skies up above. we're getting ready for another day filled with sunshine and temperatures even warmer than yesterday. here's the reason why. big area of high pressure now anchored off our coastline. and it's going to stay there at least through thursday, acting like a heat pump. bringing a spring like temperatures, and squashing any threat of cloud cover. so looking at the morning drive early on, we do start out on the cool side with a lot of temperatures in the 40s and will quickly climb into the 50s by 8 a.m. and then into the 60s by 10 a.m. and we're on our way into the 70s and our warmest spots away from the coast. so highs across the region, we are going above average today near 80 in concord, the same in san jose, 78 in santa rosa, a very comfortable 72 in oakland will hit 67 in the city early in the afternoon before a sea breeze kicks in. starts to cool us off. 74 in palo alto, 76 the high in morgan hill. we continue to warm over the next couple of days. by

(♪) for the cause of a two alarm fire that burned a building in hayward last night. it's just west of interstate 880 on hall road. fire officials say no one was injured. >> if your morning commute takes you through the posey tube, it is back to normal. they had a pretty dangerous situation last night. drivers had to ditch their cars and walk out of the tunnel through smoke after a truck caught fire. abc seven news was there when crews brought the burned truck out of the tunnel. fortunately, nobody

was hurt in the north bay. >> we're learning two people are facing charges for a chop shop operation in sonoma county. investigators with the chp and sonoma county sheriff's office arrested these men last month after searching a vehicle repair shop in santa rosa. they say they found dozens of cars and trucks. seven were listed as stolen and parts of the vehicles had been removed, several had altered vin numbers. detectives are now asking anyone who may have more information to give them a call. >> you're going to see a lot more electric rental bikes in the east bay. today, lyft is set to announce it is expanding the bay wheels bike share program. the company will roll out 500 new bikes in oakland, berkeley and emeryville, along with 24 new docking stations. lyft says they hope this expansion will grow ridership and reduce their operational costs. >> the slow economic recovery of downtown san francisco has the attention of other california city leaders, who are having the same issue. san francisco mayor london breed met with the mayors of sacramento, long beach, and

riverside at the state capitol yesterday for the first legislative hearing on california's post-pandemic recovery. mayor breed expressed support for a series of bills created by bay area lawmakers, which would encourage renewed investment in downtown san francisco. the ceo of san francisco's union square alliance also attended the session and says the meeting gave her hope. >> bar and restaurant boom in union square. we're actually expecting quite a few more announcements of new restaurants this year and into next year. >> mayor breed told told the group that both violent crime and property crime are down, town, are improving, and she says the shift to remote work is the biggest reason for the slow recovery. >> applications are now open for alameda county's program, helping first time home buyer buyers afford their down payments. it's giving up to $210,000 loans to people who live or work in the county, or those who are displaced from homes there. applicants must be making 120% of the area median

income to qualify. recipients will be selected through a lottery with priority to educators and first responders, and you can apply online until may 15th. >> grammy winner billie eilish has new music coming out this spring. her third studio album, called hit me hard and soft, is set to be released may 17th. the singer announced the album yesterday on instagram, and the post also reveals her cover art, where eilish is swimming underwater toward an open door. now the song titles haven't been released. this new album comes after eilish and her brother finneas won an oscar for the babi song what was i made for? well, remember that time when this one bay area city renamed itself? during taylor swifts eras tour last year? swift de clara, also known as santa clara, is now being named the swifty capital of the united states. casino.org says swifty clara has more taylor swift fans per capita than any other u.s. city on the eras tour. tampa, florida. pittsburgh, pennsylvania. kansas city,

dumbarton bridge. can take you eight minutes. >> number seven spotify now has personalized ai playlists. users can create them by typing in a description like music to read on a rainy day. i will then pull up 30 songs meeting that criteria. more prompts can tweak the playlist to get them just right. >> let's talk about the eclipse, because certainly everyone is still talking about it this morning. >> now, of course, we got a partial solar eclipse here in the bay area. the moon only covered a little portion of the sun, but that didn't stop people from enjoying the show. we'll begin at the exploratorium. everybody looking up in the sky, hopefully with the glasses on. actually, the museum store sold out of glasses and if you were disappointed by that, you know what? your lack of planning is not their emergency. so some people did plan. they brought out calendars and other knickknacks to see it on the ground by making the mirror smaller, by blocking part of it with my hand, we're able to get a small image of the eclipsed sun on the wall. >> it's sad we don't get to see

the total eclipse, but 40% is still fantastic to me inside a crowd. >> watch live nasa coverage from texas and the midwest and a crowd of people with all different types of viewing gear came together in los altos to see the partial solar eclipse. >> the peninsula is astronomical society helped most people to this event, welcoming people to check out the telescopes inside and outside of the observatory. we are actually able to have light come through and project onto a card so that we can actually see the eclipse with our naked eye. so this man had his own telescope recording a time lapse video of the eclipse that he's planning to share with others. now, millions of people who wanted to get a glimpse of the eclipse in totality made the trip east. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone spoke with people arriving home to the bay to the bay area after their eclipse trips. >> travelers headed every which

way at san francisco international airport monday. the better believe that some of them just saw the total solar eclipse and other parts of the country. it was it sort of like see the eclipse and then go to the airport. >> or how did that work exactly? it turns out you can schedule a lyft or uber ride to pick you up right at the end of the eclipse, and it will scoot you back to the airport just in time to catch your flight. >> and that's just what dan russell of palo alto did. he managed to take these photos of the eclipse monday in austin, texas. russell stopped there on the way back from raleigh so he could see friends. and of course, the eclipse. >> it was cloudy, but every so often there'd be a little parting in the clouds and you'd see it, and then it would go away and you'd see it and go away. so it was really nice, actually. >> i talked to several people who flew to other parts of the country to see the total solar eclipse and told me they're not flying back monday or tuesday because of the high prices. mark ziegler of concord, who i spoke with sunday night, was one of

those individuals. he's not flying back yet, but did send me these images monday of what the total solar eclipse looked like 2500 miles away in ohio. he described it as breathtaking, seeing everyone online and off the plane talking about the daytime darkness within the path of the total solar eclipse. >> i came from texas and i and i looked at the eclipse. it was really dark and a duration about three four minutes going from like a middle of the day and then to the middle of the night. >> so got pretty dark. >> yeah, very dark. >> it was surprisingly dark. it wasn't. it was very slow to get dark. and all of a sudden it got very dark. street lights came on, the birds went away. it was really dramatic. >> was it worth it? >> absolutely, absolutely. you should have gone. >> maybe next time. dan at sfo, j.r. stone, abc seven news i love it. >> so you can check out views of

security guards at all 28 branches across the city. currently, they say that a majority of the branches do not have a dedicated guard. in a press release, a part time librarian says their job is to ensure equitable access to the library for everyone. this comes as the city is cracking down on open air drug use by un plaza, near the main library branch. currently, library staff are in contract negotiations along with tens of thousands of other city employees, and they're also fighting for more full time jobs. the rally starts at noon today at the sf main library on larkin street, and i reached out to the san francisco public library to get their response. and of course, we'll bring it to you as soon as we have it. kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. community advocates in east palo alto are trying to make sure violent crime does not make a comeback. >> this impacts everyone the community, the family, the friends, the police. >> police are trying to solve their first homicide of the year and investigating whether a

death yesterday day is criminal as well. here's abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez. >> a death investigation is underway in east palo alto. police say they found a man off newell road on monday. the chief of police said it's too early to determine if a criminal act occurred last year. east palo alto had zero murders. the chief called it a momentous milestone for a community once marked by adversity. in the early 1990s. it was once known as the us murder capital. >> the resources were not there always. >> since the late 1980s, margaret petros has helped families of murder victims in east palo alto and throughout the bay area. >> families tend to be scared. so we're here as a community organization, doing it on behalf of the families, on behalf of the community as well. >> this year, police are asking the public's help to solve the city's first murder of 2020 for

east palo alto, police said a man stabbed on february 8th died from his injuries a month later. the department is still looking for his attacker. they released this surveillance video. it shows a white suv stop and appear to witness the attack on the corner of university avenue and bell street. police are asking those who were inside that white suv to come forward. they may have vital information. margaret petros organization, mothers against murder, is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. >> there is always hope, and if some reward can help, then we're willing to justice to the family. justice to the primary victim and to keep our community safe. it's well worth it in the south bay, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> the us has presented a proposal for a ceasefire in

sentencing guidelines recommend a maximum of about seven years in prison. prosecutors are recommending 10 to 15 years, saying both parents have shown a, quote, chilling lack of remorse. james crumbley is asking for time served, saying he was wrongly accused and now wrongly convicted. jennifer crumbley has asked to serve her sentence on house arrest at her lawyer's guest home. their son ethan, is serving a life sentence after he killed four students at his high school in 2021, two separate juries found both parents guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection to the deaths of those students. the crumbleys are the first parents in the country found criminally responsible for a school shooting committed by their child. they are expected to appear in court together today when the judge will hear impact statements from the families of the victims. as many of those families appeared at the trials, we can put people on the moon. >> we can build skyscrapers.

world cup and the olympics. this you guys look at this. this is what the 2024 total solar eclipse look like from mazatlan, mexico. this is the first place in north america that saw the moon completely cover the sun. and now that the eclipse is over, everybody is on the way back home immediately after the eclipse, traffic was backed up across new hampshire roads and highways in several states, including texas, ohio, illinois, michigan, indiana, vermont all impacted by eclipse travel. two the faa advised pilots to carry extra fuel in the event that they got rerouted because of heavy volume in the eclipse zones, some airlines offered flights to give people a view of the eclipse from the air. the faa reported ground stops and briefly halted arrivals into some smaller airports from vermont to illinois. travel for the eclipse in spring break. at the same time led to the faa
