jails, and a progress report out on this landslide that closed portion of highway one near big sur. when it's expected to be shored up. abc seven news starts right now. >> always live. abc seven news starts right now. >> shots pierced the silence in a quiet corner of california's wine country. two young women shot to death. a community now trying to come to terms with the loss and the violence. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm diane lim. we begin with that developing story coming out of napa. the shooting on riverside drive in a residential neighborhood in old town napa. right now, the search is on for the person behind the trigger. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard spoke to neighbors who witnessed the violence and tried to help the victims. >> extremely disturbing. extremely sad. >> neighbors reacting to a night of deadly violence near downtown napa. police say two female victims were shot and killed saturday night near the napa

river. >> i ended up seeing some else that i didn't expect for sure. >> brandon perez lives on riverside drive. he says he heard people fighting, then gunshots. >> i hear a crazy scream that just, you know, sends chills down your spine. >> brandon says he ran to help. did you try to talk to the victim? >> yeah, no, i tried saying, like, you know, can you like, like can you, like, try to lean back or just something to, like, help them out because i saw that they had a couple shots on like, like by there, like right here and then like another one here, i didn't know that, you know, they already had passed on by the time i got to them. >> investigators say another victim was shot and later died at the hospital. brandon believes both victims were teenage girls. he says a car quickly left the scene a moment that those shots went off, the car, you know, just kind of magically appeared to be there at the perfect timing, and then just sped off. >> police say no arrests have been made and a motive is still unclear. >> it's sad that our community is going to something like this. it's sad to hear that two young girls had to lose their lives.

>> neighbors living here on riverside drive believe their neighborhood is quiet and safe. but lately they have seen some changes. >> it's definitely been a little rougher recently just because, yeah, like that right now. and we've been having some, like, gang graffiti, all that stuff. >> i think it was gang related personally. >> police haven't commented whether gangs were involved, but they're asking the public for any information they have. >> all of napa is very safe. it's. it's a very small community. it's a very small town. everyone pretty much knows everyone. so they're. they're going to catch the person that did it for sure in napa. >> cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> a series of inmate attacks on deputies and staff has led to a lockdown of two san francisco county jails. san francisco deputy sheriff's association says one of those attacks on friday seriously injured a deputy sheriff. the group is now demanding the sheriff's office send in the national guard. they say they need more staffing and

resources. the president of the association just spoke with abc seven news reporter j.r. stone. >> with the conditions of the staffing, the department is so vulnerable. they need to up the staffing. this is like extremely urgent. >> the lockdown affects the county jail on seventh street in san francisco and a second in san bruno, with community and parent child visits canceled through tomorrow. seven staff members were injured in attacks starting on march 29th. now, the sheriff's office released a statement today saying they are working on plans to address the issues raised by the deputy sheriff's association, saying, quote, the national guard is not the answer to the staffing shortage. we are confident the recent safety issues will be addressed by our internal response to the middle east. now, where tensions are high after an unprecedented attack on israel by iran, israel successfully defended itself with help from the us military. abc news reporter josh einiger

is in jerusalem with details on a meeting among g7 leaders about the attack. >> reporter the onslaught lit up the night sky over the old city of jerusalem as iran launched more than 300 missiles and attack drones and a strike launched for the first time from iranian soil on israel, israelis took shelter as air raid sirens blared across the country. the idf says israel's iron dome system intercepted about 99% of the projectiles, calling it a strategic success. >> you just think about the hardware that iran threw into the sky and how little damage that caused. i mean, that's a real testament to how strong the idf is. >> president biden conveyed his ironclad support for israel in a call with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. >> the main message was, we're with you. that's a commitment going back, many, many administrations and the president believes wholeheartedly in it. >> and the president spoke with leaders of the g7 nations on sunday. those leaders condemned

iran's attack, reaffirming the g7's commitment to israel's security. the potentially lethal combination of drones and missiles came in retaliation for an israeli airstrike on the iranian consulate in syria earlier this month that killed seven iranian military officials. now israel, as well as jordan, lebanon and iraq have reopened their airspace after closing it to military aircraft during the attack, the us embassy in jerusalem lifted its shelter in place order for its employees, saying the threat has abated, at least for now. meanwhile, in saint peter's square this sunday morning, pope francis offered prayers for peace that this conflict does not spiral even farther out of control. josh einiger, abc news, jerusalem. >> we will, of course, continue to keep you updated on what's happening in the middle east and here at home. you can get an update after this newscast at 530 on world news with david muir. we'll also have any new developments on abc seven news.com. security is tight in

lower manhattan ahead of the start of former president donald trump's criminal trial monday. trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide hush money payments to actress stormy daniels, his legal team has filed several motions to delay that trial. the defense has accused the judge of being biased. the jury pool tainted and the limited gag order he's under. unfair the court has rejected all of those claims. prosecutors say trump paid daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair, then tried to disguise it as legal payments to former lawyer michael cohen. >> the defendant claimed that he was paying michael cohen for legal services performed in 2017 on this simply was not true. >> hundreds of potential jurors have been summoned. it could take a week to seat 12 jurors and six alternates. trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges for people were rescued from a capsized boat in the san francisco bay this morning. the sfpd marine unit teamed up with

the coast guard to reach them about three miles off the coast of ocean beach. all were expected to be okay and taken for an evaluation by medics in marin county. officials say the boat was about 32ft long. it's still not clear exactly why or when the boat capsized and in the north bay, seven people, including a child, are safe after they were rescued from an overturned boat on tomales bay. marin county firefighters say they were clinging to that boat as it capsized at about three yesterday afternoon. three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries because of cold exposure. sideshows swept across oakland this weekend. this car fire, just one of the issues police dealt with as they moved in. also, caltrans releases some daetz and details on how they hope to get traffic moving again . despite this landslide on highway one near big sur. >> i'm spencer christian looking at some leftover moisture from yesterday's storm, but we'll be

fire. police say a few people were taken into custody and the shows were broken up once police responded. there is no word right now on whether there were any injuries during those sideshows. new details about repairs on highway one near big sur. caltrans expects initial stabilizing of the road to be completed by memorial day, may 27th. after that, a temporary signal will be installed to allow unrestricted one way traffic across rocky creek bridge. crews have led two daily convoys for local residents and essential workers to cross the highway. caltrans says restoring the portion of road that crumbled away last month could cost $25 million. in the east bay, a fire burned two families out of their home on fleming street in san leandro. a firefighter's helmet camera recorded this dramatic, newly released video. one person suffered smoke inhalation during thursday's fire and was taken to the hospital. no word yet on what sparked this fire. well, spring is in full bloom in

there are several good places to see those wildflowers, and among them table mountain near chico, sugarloaf state park in sonoma county, and skyline ridge preserve on the peninsula. experts say it won't rival last year's super bloom, but it will be a pretty spectacular season nonetheless, thanks to a lot of rain. well before today's warriors game, the team made an investment in the future. the warriors and p-g-and-e's took

part in a check presentation of $631,000 and counting for the three free throws for futures. that is a tongue twister program . it raises money for four nonprofit groups, and those organizations include kingmakers of oakland, which helps teenage boys get into college. >> these funds help us provide the mentors, help us provide the saturday school, help us provide the college tours. so we're just a deeply appreciative of this investment because it allows us to really help young kings take their crowns out of their pocket and rocket. >> yeah, and it'll go a long way through the free throws for futures program. i was extra careful there. there is a $500 donation for each free throw. the warriors made during the regular season. how great is that? and check this out, runners of all ages traded in the treadmills for an airport runway to get in their morning jog today. san carlos airport was closed to airplanes to allow thousands of runners to partake

in the annual runway fun run. organizers tout the event as one of the more unique experiences in the bay area. abc seven is a proud sponsor and as you can see, abc seven news anchor ama daetz emceed the action. this fundraiser benefits the nonprofit hiller aviation museum and over in san jose, a family festival is celebrating spring and quality time with loved ones. more than 100 food and art vendors took part. bounce houses kept the young ones entertained in the kids zone. not to mention, guests were able to also enjoy live bands and dancing, singing, even kung fu shows. today is day two of the weekend event hosted at the discovery meadow children's museum. and i have to admit, in the beginning of the day i thought things were going to be a washout. potentially it looked a bit cloudy out there. >> we had a few isolated sprinkles early this morning, but they're they're gone. yeah. much improved. here's a look at live doppler seven. you can see areas of green but the radar is picking up moisture in the

atmosphere that is not hitting the ground. although in the far southern part of our viewing area down in the southern part of the santa cruz mountains, there are some sprinkles right now, but we're drying out and that's the good news. so let's move along and take a look at current conditions. winds are and the breezy range. nothing gusty, but around the bay and out on the coast we've got 14 15 mile per hour winds. check out the warm up since this time yesterday. 11 degrees warmer in novato, eight degrees warmer in oakland, 13 degrees warmer in concord. so the weather is improving. you might say it's 56 in san francisco right now, which is pretty chilly, and only 59 in oakland. but we've got low 60s at hayward and san jose. and as we move along and take a look at, oh, nice clouds as we look westward from the emeryville camera, 57 degrees in santa rosa and napa. so pretty chilly up north petaluma only 52, but we've got low 60s at fairfield and concord. these are our forecast headlines. isolated showers are ending this evening, but we've got some lingering clouds tomorrow. sunnier milder and drier. and that pattern will continue through the remainder of the week, with sunny days and a warming trend coming our way.

here's our forecast animation taking us into the late night and overnight hours, and we'll see the clouds lingering for a while. but beginning to move out in the early morning hours, giving way to a mainly sunny start to the week and to the day tomorrow. overnight lows will be mainly in the mid or mid to upper 40s, so cool but not cold. highs tomorrow. well certainly higher than we had today. look for upper 60s in many of our inland areas over the inland east bay 68 at concord, 67 at livermore up north, 70 at santa rosa and down south, a high of 69 at san jose. and here is our accuweather seven day forecast. so dry conditions all the way through the week. a nice little midweek warm up, nothing very dramatic, but a steady warm up from tomorrow through wednesday and thursday when we'll see high temperatures up to about 80 degrees, perhaps even a little higher than that in some spots inland, 7475 around the bay shoreline and then temperatures will sort of hang out in that range into saturday. and little change on sunday. just a minor drop in temperatures. but it's

nba regular season warriors hosting the jazz. today they sat both stephen curry and draymond green. there's plenty of scenarios on where they could potentially end up in the play in series, but it all needed to start with a warriors win. so here we go from chase center. as i mentioned, no steph, no dre getting him rested up for that play in tournament. that's essentially why they didn't play today. and there wasn't a great chance that he'd move very far. fire up klay thompson great pass to tj d. they developed quite a connection. and then klay finding his rhythm at the right time. splash 19 of his game. high 25 came in the first half. and you know klay is feeling it when he's talking trash to the other bench as a shot goes in. that's good stuff. just before the half defense to offense andrew wiggins ahead. touchdown
