danville at 4548 in palo alto. good morning. we're at 49 in oakland in the north bay, slightly cooler, 46 in calistoga, 43. that current temperature in santa rosa. looking at our day planner today, it's a mostly sunny day. we'll have some clouds from time to time. your sun's up here at 632 this morning at about 30 minutes, and you'll see those temperatures are mild. this afternoon. we'll have widespread 70s away from the coast. so going above average for this time of the year, a high of 70 in oakland today, 75 in santa rosa, 67. in the city it will feel mild, 77 in san jose will hit about 76. in concord. it gets even warmer here tomorrow. reggie, we'll show you those numbers coming up in about eight minutes. drew. >> thank you. we're going to start with the protests across the bay area. the last one wrapping up with police firing pepper balls. these gatherings were not massive in numbers, but they had a huge impact. the chp arrested 38 people tied to the first round of protests yesterday. protesters targeted three spots the golden gate bridge and one location in each direction of 8-80 in oakland.

for drivers ended up trapped for hours as chp worked to break up these demonstrations. protesters went to extremes to make sure it lasted as long as possible, linking themselves to cars through tubes and chaining themselves to barrels filled with concrete. it took jackhammer hours to get them out. 12 hours after the protests first started, another group gathered outside the tesla factory in fremont. all the demonstrations were a part of what organizers say is the a15 day of protest. the protest took place on april 15th, or tax day. as a way to cause economic disruption. protesters believe the demonstrations would target those who are helping to fund the israel-hamas war. >> is this tesla factory is one of the most productive factories in the state, and so in this area, we wanted to target a big center of production and really cause an impact. a lot of these companies are just thinking about their profits and uh- unless, unless they're affected, they need pressure.

>> protesters who spoke with abc seven say they will continue to make their voices heard. >> abc seven news spoke with legal experts about possible consequences for these protesters. you can see this frustrated driver confronting some of them. san jose state university professor greg woods categorized the actions on the golden gate bridge and interstate 8-80 in oakland as illegal without the benefit of a license to engage in protest at these particular locations. >> these individuals are engaging in trespass. if we allow those individuals to engage in such disruption without any form of accountability, then we can absolutely expect more of the same in the future. >> five months ago, while president biden was in san francisco for the apec summit, 80 protesters were arrested on the bay bridge and charged. some of those charges included false imprisonment, refusing to disperse and refusing to comply with the peace officer. those

it's unclear what options israel is considering they are. there are concerns about a possible strike on iran's nuclear facilities. officials say iran did not give the us warning about the time frame of its attack. >> iran's intent was clearly to cause significant destruction and casualties. >> the white house is currently pushing for a national security bill to be passed. house speaker mike johnson, who has been preventing the bill from moving through congress, says he wants to break the bill into four separate votes. johnson says the voting should be done this week. the white house is against the idea of breaking up the bill and would like the funding for israel and ukraine to be approved quickly. back to you at the desk, kumasi. >> thank you. amanda scott peterson will be back in a san mateo county courtroom virtually today with his new attorneys, the los angeles innocence project took up his case earlier this year. they say they have evidence he was wrongly convicted of killing his

pregnant wife, laci, and their unborn son in 2002. he was sentenced to death, then later life in prison. now his new legal team wants dna tests to and to look at evidence related to a burglary that happened near the couple's home. three hearings are now scheduled one for today, one in may and another in june. court is set for nine this morning. >> our former youth pastor, well known in san jose, is facing multiple sex crime charges. police say the abuse occurred while 47 year-old brett bymaster was a youth pastor at the river church community detectives say bymaster allegedly assaulted a minor multiple times within a four year period starting in 2014. this morning, the suspect's family is responding. >> brett is a kind and honest man who has dedicated his life to helping others. this outrageous accusation against my husband are patently false. he is absolutely innocent. i have faith that the truth will ultimately prevail.

>> previous allegations also surfaced a few years ago, but charges were not filed until now. officers are asking anyone who might have more information on this case to come forward. >> the pressure is mounting to keep a hospital trauma center in east san jose open. it is set to close in august and that has some patients worried. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live in gloria, the board of supervisors will be hearing how this closure could impact the community later today. >> good morning. kumasi. the board of supervisors will hear a report. and from residents of east san jose during a meeting today, the emergency medical services agency studied the impact that closing these services will have on the community. yesterday, some san jose city leaders spoke about the need to save critical services at regional medical center of san jose. in february. the center announced the imminent closure of its level two trauma center, stemi services and other cardiac services. the center said they were just not being utilized

enough to outweigh the cost of keeping them open. san jose city council members peter ortiz and domingo candelas, both have family members whose lives were saved at regional medical center without access to regional medical center, people like my mom would never have had a second chance. >> this closure signifies more than just the end of services. it represents a loss of hope and support for those who need it most. critical services at the center are slated to close in august, but if the board votes to fight the closure today, they will take the concerns from ems and the community to the department of health services. >> live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> we'll go outside live. look from our south beach camera. partly cloudy conditions out there right now and we're in store for warmer weather over the next several days. your morning drive no issues out there. it's just a mix of sun and clouds early on.

temperatures gradually climbing through the 50s will eventually get into the low 60s already by 11 a.m. this morning. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. we have this big ridge of high pressure that has anchored itself off the coast. but you also notice there's a lot of high cloud cover rotating around it. and from time to time over the next couple of days, we'll be in and out of the cloud. so it's not totally sunny. it's partly cloudy through thursday, but we will still reap the benefits of that warming trend with this high pressure. here's future weather hour by hour. later on this morning, under those partly cloudy skies will climb through the 60s, close to noon, and then into the afternoon. our warmest areas getting well into the 70s so it will feel warmer, noticeably warmer compared to yesterday afternoon and even this evening. it's looking quite pleasant. by 730 we're still mainly in the 60s, and in the 70s the pollen forecast, tree pollen still high, weeds and molds are low right now. looking at the next three days, even warmer here tomorrow and thursday. widespread 70s and 80s

action against the proposed name change. san francisco bay. oakland international airport. the sfo commission will meet later this morning, and their agenda includes a closed session with legal counsel. the port of oakland approved the name change last week. san francisco city attorney has hinted at suing over trademark infringement. there will be public comment before the board meets with the lawyer behind closed doors. live nation, which owns ticketmaster, could face a major lawsuit from the government. a man at the live desk with more on that. amanda. >> yeah. roger the department of justice is expected to file an antitrust lawsuit as soon as next month against live nation entertainment. that's according to the wall street journal. the suit will claim live nation has used its dominance in the industry in a way that undermines competition for live events. it's unclear how specific the other claims will be. both ticketmaster and live

nation merged in 2010, despite monopoly concerns since then, the company has faced fraud and price fixing allegations. recently, hundreds of taylor swift fans took the company to court for the botched rollout of irs tour tickets. lawmakers have vowed to investigate. this is all a definition of monopoly. >> if you care about the consumer, capped the price. >> live nation has blamed scalpers and bots for pretending to be human customers. the company says it does not set or control ticket prices outside of its service fee. it's unclear what the doj is seeking in the lawsuit. it could mean a breakup between live nation and ticketmaster. back to you, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. organizers of the portola music festival are hoping to bring it back for another year later today, san francisco officials will consider the application for this year's event. organizers are also asking for input on how to make the festival less bothersome for neighbors. during

the last two years of the event, the musical acts at pier 80 could be heard all the way across the bay in alameda. so now portola music festival wants to know from residents and city officials what their feedback is. new developments since installing the turbo roundabout between gilroy and hollister, there have been zero deaths or serious injuries. that was the goal. but now crashes are happening at about three times the normal rate. before it was built, the roundabout is located at the intersection of highways 25 and 156. according to our media partners at the mercury news, turbo roundabouts have a proven track record of creating safer intersections. experts believe over time, crashes will decrease as drivers get used to the new feature. this turbo roundabout is the first of its kind in the state. one of the bay area's best basketball players is headed to la with the second pick in the 2024 wnba draft, the los angeles sparks select camera brink, stanford

>> we're going to start with a check on your forecast. hey, drew. >> hey. good morning. it's pleasant out there right now. we're in store for a warming trend. the next few days as those numbers climb above average later on this afternoon. here's the exploratorium camera. just really calm view from the bay waters. we have partly cloudy conditions as that sun gets up here. temperatures right now in our coldest city starting out in the mid 40s at 50 and half moon bay. but 46 in livermore in the north bay. it is a little bit cooler with sonoma coming in at 42. we're at 46. in calistoga, we have just a little bit of fog out there right now. live doppler seven and visibility mode showing you santa rosa has some low cloud cover. we're down to two miles visibility, so it's not too thick out there, but you will notice some low level cloud cover in parts of the north bay this morning. but the afternoon is totally sunny out there and it will be noticeably warmer compared to yesterday. we'll get into the 70s away from the coast later on this afternoon. so high of about 70 in oakland, 75 in santa rosa, 77 in san jose, 67 in the city, concord. up to 76

degrees. gets even warmer here tomorrow afternoon. reggie. we'll show you those numbers coming up in about seven minutes. thanks, drew. >> traffic should be back to normal this morning on bay area highways after a number of protests snarled the morning commute yesterday. pro palestinian protests created traffic gridlock across the bay area. the first began around 615 yesterday morning on norbound 880 at fifth avenue. just a few hours later, at 8 a.m, protesters blocked southbound lanes on the goln gate bridge. then, around 815, a third protest when a group shot down southbound lanes of 80. here's video of the protest on northbound 880, the first one we started showing you in the area of embarcadero and fifth avenue protesters. as you could see, brought barrels filled with concrete onto the highway and then chained themselves to them. lanes were fully closed for nearly two hours. southbound 880 was closed by activists who blocked an on ramp and all lanes of traffic. the on ramp and all lanes reopened just before two

in the afternoon. and now to the golden gate bridge, where it took nearly five hours to open all lanes. the chp says. a combined total of 38 people were arrested, and chp officials say the protest was not only inconvenient, but it was dangerous attempting to block or shut down a freeway or a state highway to protest is unlawful. >> it's dangerous, and it prevents motorists from safely reaching their destinations. the way the traffic was backed up, nobody could go anywhere. you could not back up, you could not go forward. they were stuck in a location that they couldn't move . >> protesters faced a variety of charges, including unlawful assembly, refusal to comply with a lawful order, unlawful stop on a bridge, resisting arrest, false imprisonment and conspiracy. >> other big cities also dealt with similar demonstrations in chicago. pro-palestinian protesters. protesters blocked the road to terminal one at o'hare airport. some people ended up, as you can see here in this video, walking to the

terminal to catch their flights. police say they took a number of protesters into custody, and this was what it looked like on wall street. it was filled with protesters. they also blocked lanes of the brooklyn bridge. organizers say they intentionally chose yesterday tax day to send a message that they do not want their tax dollars used to fund arms to israel. >> happening today, a push to save a hospital trauma center in the bay area's largest county. patients say it's essential to east san jose. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. and gloria, the board of supervisors is going to hear an impact report today. >> good morning. reggie. the emergency medical services agency study the impact that closing these services will have on the community. and today, the board of supervisors will hear that report yesterday, east san jose community members and some san jose leaders urging the santa clara county board of supervisors to do everything possible to keep the regional medical center's trauma center open. in february, the center announced the imminent closure of its level two trauma center. stemi services and other cardiac

services, the center said. they just weren't being utilized enough to outweigh the cost of keeping them open. but santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez disagrees. >> we are here because this is an emergency. we rely on these services to protect lives and well-being of our community every day, and we're demanding that health care corporation of america and regional medical center maintain these critical services. >> it would not be the first time the board of supervisors stepped in during matters of public health. when san jose hospital closed down, the county bought saint louise and o'connor to help with the increase in demand. and if the board votes to fight the closure today, they'll take the concerns from ems and the community to the department of health services. critical services at the center is slated to close in august. live in the studio gloria rodriguez abc seven news. >> gloria. thank you. a troubled prison in the east bay facing widespread sexual assault

allegations, is now slated to shut down the federal bureau of prisons says it would close the women's prison in dublin. at least eight employees, including a former warden and chaplain, have been charged with sexually abusing inmates. a woman who served more than two years there says what happened inside was horrifying. >> the officers there that insulted us, they they basically see us in the showers, they open the curtains. >> the bureau of prisons says it tried to make changes in dublin, but they aren't working. last month, the fbi raided the prison and a judge took the unprecedented step of appointing a special master to oversee it. >> this kind of abrupt closure really feels like a total evasion of accountability to survivors, incarcerated people and advocates. >> the women in prison there will now be moved to other facilities. there are about 50 civil rights lawsuits pending against fci dublin employees.

>> meta ceo mark zuckerberg avoids personal liability in over two dozen legal cases. these cases accuse instagram and facebook of fueling social media addiction. amanda has more from the live desk kumasi. >> the 25 cases against meta look to hold mark zuckerberg personally accountable for keeping children hooked on social media. they claim zuckerberg made design decisions and ignored warnings about the safety of children on the company's platforms. the judge said zuckerberg couldn't be held liable just because he's the public face of meta, while zuckerberg is off the hook. the cases and their allegations against meta still stand. the company faces two lawsuits by tribal nations. the nations accused the social media giant of contributing to high suicide rates by purposefully getting kids hooked to their platforms. the judge says people who filed those claims can amend and refile their cases back to you at the desk, reggie.

i should be. >> this is the first time a former u.s. president has stood trial as a criminal defendant. >> alameda county da pamela price appears to be headed for a recall election this year. the county's registrar of voters announced there are enough valid signatures on a petition to force a recall election. in a statement, petition organizers say this shows overwhelming support for a change of leadership in the da's office. a lawyer for price tells abc seven news he has questions about whether signature gatherers followed all the rules. the board of supervisors will discuss setting an election date later this month. tackling homelessness is a major challenge as we build a better bay area. san francisco just added dozens of new shelter beds in the form of small cabins. they're set up right next to the 16th street mission bart station. the city says 60 cabins will give unhoused people a private and comfortable place to stay, with resources to get them on the path to longer time housing. the cabins will be

there for two years until the city can break ground on affordable housing. >> santa cruz will have to demolish a restaurant on the wharf in order to repair damage from last winter storms. the city says the damage to the pier was so bad that they needed to tear down dolphin restaurant. it's been at the end of the pier end of the wharf since 1963. massive swells in december took out the pilings that support the wharf, and in order to replace them, the structure above it has to now be demolished. right now, temporary repairs will begin in the coming weeks to stabilize parts of the wharf. permanent repairs are set to begin next fall or winter altogether. >> it's probably going to take in the neighborhood of $2.5 million to fix the damage that is out there. this new federal funding, along with any state funding, can really make up the gap in that and help us deliver the full repair. >> officials hope to have the repairs completed before the next round of storms.

>> governor newsom is going to be in the bay area today announcing a new climate partnership. it's with norway. the governor will reveal the details alongside the crown prince of norway and the country's minister of trade and industry. that is supposed to happen at noon. >> also happening today, a state assembly committee will debate requirements for how decaf coffee is made. a new bill proposal would ban a chemical used by some companies to get the caffeine out of coffee, making it decaf. the epa has banned the chemical from industrial use in products like paint strippers. bill supporters say methyl methylene chloride is a known carcinogen, and many people don't even know it's in their drink. >> over 70% of consumers are reach for decaffeinated coffee, are pregnant women or people with health conditions? >> the national coffee association says the bill is unnecessary and there is no justification to ban this chemical in coffee production. if the bill is passed, it would go into effect in early 2027.

park on april 27th. >> the city of san francisco reaches a tentative deal with some of the city's public employee unions. according to the mayor's office, the agreements cover more than half of the city's 36,000 employees. union members still need to ratify the contract, and the board of supervisors have to approve them. it's unclear how much the new deal will cost the city. san francisco is currently facing a big budget deficit during a mayoral election year. >> new legislation is set to crack down even more on illegal fencing in san francisco. the board of supervisors rules committee yunan, approved a new set of enforcement rules so vendors without permits will have ten minutes to move before a citation is issued and then the goods are taken by officials. permits will also require photographs of the permit holder, so that permit can't be transferred between vendors. >> now it's your morning money report. after 20 years in operation, abbott laboratories will be shutting down its solano county nutrition facility. the
