curry live at the jail on seventh and bryant streets. and ryan. there was another attack at one of these jails. >> yeah, that's right. kumasi two inmates at the san bruno jail barricaded themselves in a cell with handmade weapons. and because of that, the san bruno jail is remaining closed while the san francisco one behind me is set to reopen. the two jails have been under lockdown since last friday, while authorities investigated the recent attacks. the sheriff says as many as seven staff members and nine deputies have been injured since late march. deputies warned the sheriff something like this would happen. nearly 100 of them signed a letter back in november to the sheriff, saying they have critical levels of staffing shortage. deputies in san bruno said they were mentally and physically exhausted in fights. drug use and assaults all have increase on staff. the sheriff described some of the injuries over the past week. >> as i mentioned, we've had a number of deputies go out on

injuries that include punches to the head, face and neck being spit at and kicked in. the head slammed against walls, which resulted in the injuries of bone fractures, dislocated shoulders and bloody eye sockets. >> the sheriff tells us one of the main reasons for this uptick in violence is the lack of space to spread out prisoners. another main factor, he says, is the large number of violent offenders who are remaining in custody for longer periods of time. however, staffing remains a big concern for the sheriff's department. normally, they're supposed to have around 500 workers at the two county jails, but right now they have less than 400. so something they have to address going forward. live in san francisco. ryan curry, abc seven news. ryan, thank you. >> a rising star in san francisco's political world resigns and could be facing an investigation amid serious sexual assault allegations. our media partners at the sf standard spoke with three women accusing john jacobo of domestic

violence and sexual assault. the women told the standard they all filed police reports, but they say those reports didn't go anywhere. jacobo was a director for the housing nonprofit tenants and owners development corporation. sf standard reporter josh cain says the women feared more violence from jacobo. if they spoke out. >> these accusations are very explosive, very damaging and there was a lot of fear for not only their professional careers, but also their safety. >> san francisco's police chief says his department is investigating the three women's reports. san francisco supervisor hillary ronen is now calling for a hearing on how the city handles sexual harassment and assault cases. >> to not see any progress after we've put resources and created a new department to focus in on that issue, it's a real disappointment. >> jacobo did not respond to the standard's request for comment on the story. >> governor newsom is weighing in on the protests that brought

traffic to a standstill monday morning while in the bay area yesterday. the governor says he supports the right to protest but does not support the approach. >> i don't think that's helpful and i don't think that's responsible. i think there are better ways of protesting. so no, i hope we don't see it again . and i do think people need to be held to account for their actions. >> alameda county da pamela price will be making the call on charges for people arrested on 8-80 in oakland. meanwhile, protesters who shut down the golden gate bridge are not being charged with a crime for now. but that could change district attorney brooke jenkins says her office needs more time. protesters gathered outside the san francisco county jail yesterday, where 26 people were booked on multiple charges, including felony conspiracy. but jenkins didn't file charges before the deadline yesterday. she says her office needs help from witnesses who were stuck on the bridge. jenkins says charges are indeed coming. she says she supports people wanting their point of view heard, but they

must, quote, draw the line when acts of free speech endanger public safety. after her announcement, some of those detained protesters were released. >> we're waiting to hear back from google this morning after a pro-palestinian protest at their headquarters, police arrested five people at the sunnyvale office yesterday. google employees protested by holding a sit in and live streaming it. police say most protesters left by midday yesterday before the five remaining were arrested for trespassing. the employees are looking to stop google cloud's $1 billion ai contract with the israeli government named project nimbus last week, time reported. google's work on project nimbus involves providing direct services to the israeli defense forces. >> so i would not like to lose my job, but i think it is impossible for me to continue coming into work every week without acknowledging and loudly condemning project nimbus and any support for the israeli government. >> employees also claim palestinian, arab and muslim googlers have been censored.

developing news on the war in the middle east, abc news has learned u.s. officials expect a limited response from israel after the missile attack by iran over the weekend. a man is at the live desk, reggie, according to a senior u.s. official. >> israel's response is not expected within the next 48 hours. israel is currently facing international pressure to de-escalate the conflict. israel's war cabinet met for a fifth time. it reviewed military and diplomatic options in order to decide on the country's response. iran launched the attack on israel in retaliation to an israeli airstrike in syria that killed several top iranian military leaders. abc news reporter matt gutman got an up close look at an iranian missile recovered from the dead sea, which seemed to be part of saturday's attack. >> it is over 38ft long, made out of steel and right around here would have been the warhead capable of carrying 800 pounds of high explosives.

>> meanwhile, u.s. aid to israel is on center stage on capitol hill. house speaker mike johnson is facing criticism after proposing a separate measure to send aid to ukraine. some members of his party are now threatening to oust him as speaker. plus there's more fallout from iran's attack on israel. the u.s. is expected to impose new sanctions against iran. the sanctions would target the country's missile and drone programs. now, let's head to drew for a check of our weather. hey, amanda, take a look at the 24 hour temperature change because that tells the story. >> initially of what we'll feel later on today. we're already running several degrees warmer right now than this time yesterday. we're beginning in most cities in the 50s. as you step outside the light jackets, all you need. currently, high pressure is anchored off the southern california coastline that is acting like the heat pump. later on today. that will get us into the 70s and 80s. but you notice on satellite there's a lot of cloud cover rotating around this ridge of high pressure. so we'll have a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning and into the afternoon. looking at future weather, we're

into the 60s by 10 a.m, so we warm pretty fast today. by noon we'll have 70s in many cities. so that's already above average for this time of the year. then heading into the afternoon this is four. you can see we'll have that partly cloudy sky. and many cities in the 70s and low 80s for daytime highs. if you have any evening plans, it's a really pleasant evening. by 7 p.m, those temperatures still mild in the 60s and in the 70s. looking at your weather, wellness today, air quality is good. tree pollen remains high, your uv index a six out of an 11 that is high. so looking at the next three days, today is the warmest day of the week. but tomorrow we'll still hang on to that mild air. by friday we do cool down across the region, but those temperatures are going to rebound as we head into the weekend. we'll have that weekend forecast coming up in about eight minutes. kumasi >> thank you drew. safety in the skies a boeing whistleblower set to testify today on capitol hill over quality concerns. fire department demonstration a look at the training a rescue canine

a whistleblower from boeing is set to testify on capitol hill. he's calling for the boeing 787 dreamliner to be grounded by regulators over aircraft quality concerns. several safety

incidents on boeing jets is putting the company in the spotlight. amanda's at the live desk with more on this. >> amanda kumasi today, a congressional hearing brings boeing safety and quality concerns back into the public eye. a senate committee will hear from a whistleblower and a panel of experts who call for significant improvements at the aircraft manufacturer, the whistleblower, engineer sam salarpur, claims the 787 dreamliner wide body jets are not properly put together and could eventually break apart over time. he wants the faa to immediately ground these jets. boeing is calling sandhya patel claim inaccurate. the company says in part, the issues raised have been subject to rigorous engineering examination under faa oversight. this analysis has validated that these issues do not present any safety concerns. salarpur has not provided any documented evidence. boeing is now encouraging employees to speak up about quality concerns ahead of today's hearing, the company says. reports to an internal tip line about aircraft

quality are up about 500% this year. back to you, kumasi. thank you amanda. >> san francisco is taking a major step in its 30 year plan for improving seismic safety. mayor london breed issued an executive directive instructing city departments to identify concrete buildings that may be vulnerable in major earthquakes. experts say these at risk buildings are not easily identified from the streets, so a screening process is needed to identify them and prioritize the ones that need to be retrofitted. we know how to prepare for an earthquake, but are you prepared? make sure you have a kit, have a plan, and that you are informed. and if you need help with any of that, you can check out abc seven news.com slash. prepare norcal. the city is also a step closer to installing 33 speed cameras. yesterday, the municipal transportation agency board of directors unanimously approved the locations for them. they're expected to be installed as soon as next year. these cameras are part of a statewide pilot program that will ticket drivers

who exceed the speed limit by at least 11 miles an hour. bart is giving cash refunds to people who turn in their paper blue and white tickets, and now requires riders to use clipper cards for access into bart stations. but according to our media partners at the sf standard, if you still have any old paper bart tickets, you can turn them in and get cash. the tickets have to have $1 or more value on them to get that refund, and there's no deadline to turn in the old tickets. you can get a refund online or are at a bart station. well the warriors season is over and the dynasty might be to the kings routed the dubs and that play in game last night in sacramento. not a welcome sight for the thousands of fans who watched the game at thrive city. now this could be the last time that we see klay thompson, steph curry and draymond green playing together. thompson and green may not be coming back to the dubs

next season. fans we spoke with say they are thankful for the run, but disappointment in that loss, you know in any game you hit your peak and then you go down the other side of the mountain and i think the warriors have hit their peak and i think they're on the down side. >> they did something so special together that we just have to be thankful that we got something today. >> we are expecting to hear from some of the warriors players in a press conference following the last night's loss, curry said he could never see himself, not with those two guys. when he was asked about klay thompson and draymond green's future with the warriors, a new musical seem to be playing in san francisco, has the best possible credentials. >> it won the pulitzer prize even before it got to broadway, and it won the tony once it opened. it's based on a frustrated writer working as a lion king usher writing a musical about working as a lion king, usher. i had the chance to speak with the creator about his circle of strife and jesus

where the play hails, who usher? >> usher is a young, fat, black, gay musical theater writer who is an usher at the lion king, and he's sort of cycling through his own sort of self perceptions and his thoughts sort of take form around him. >> show me how to pray. >> while i did draw from personal experience to write the show, it's not autobiographical, not exactly. it's emotionally autobiographical. i felt everything that usher has felt. maybe you don't know how to pray so when you were an usher at the lion king, what was or wasn't going through your head standing at the back of that audience? so one day i was on the mezzanine level of the theater, and we had just let patrons come in, and it's sort of an older woman had come in and she'd gone down to her seat in like row aa, and i was standing in aisle four, and

that are clearer about what's inside, added warning labels, and more childproof packaging. now to san francisco to meet a hero named barney. barney is a dog. he's a disaster rescue canine with the fire department. yesterday, firefighters put on this first of its kind training demonstration, search dogs are deployed, sometimes by helicopter, to remote locations to look for victims after a disaster. fire crews say despite all the tech they have, the search canine is the best way to locate people trapped in collapsed structures. >> he can search far and wide really fast, much faster than we're capable of doing. and so he's able to clear this entire area to, you know, within minutes and then let me know where we need to give our attention to. >> barney is one of four rescue disaster search canines at the fire department. firefighters say it takes a year or two to fully train these rescue dogs. next is 630, beating the odds. what's happening at an oakland school that's leading to success for many of its students? >> plus, i'm abc's perry russom

find warm weather. it's almost summer like today. today is the warmest day of the week. here's a live look at sutro tower. we have partly cloudy skies out there, temperatures running several degrees warmer right now than this time yesterday, so we're already off to a warmer start than previous days. temperatures mainly in the 50s and a lot of cities. some of our cooler spots in the valleys of the north bay are in the 40s. looking at the exploratorium camera, it's a mix of sun and clouds. once that sun is up here in about one minute, we'll find we're quickly warming. today we will see those temperatures in the 70s by about noon, and then by 4 p.m, our warmest spots getting into the 80s. so it's going to be a nice mild day around here. 75 in oakland, 70 in the city, 81 in san jose, about 79 in santa rosa, 80 the high in antioch. even across the state, if you will be traveling today near 60 and sunny in south lake tahoe, 70s and 80s through the central valley looking very nice, sunny shine and socal 70s for san diego and la palm springs. it will be warm, a high

of 96 degrees. guys >> thanks, drew. in former president trump's hush money trial. seven jurors have been seated so far. 11 more still need to be chosen. abc news reporter perry russom is in washington with a look at who is on this historic jury. >> reggie and kumasi. good morning. former president trump continues to attack the judge, saying yesterday the judge is conflicted and that the judge should not be there so far, seven jurors have been seated. three are women, including a teacher, a software employee at disney, abc's parent company and an oncology nurse who said, i didn't know i was walking into this for jurors are men, including the four person who was born in ireland and works in sales. two our attorneys. and there's an it consultant originally from puerto rico who called trump fascinating and mysterious, adding he walks into a room and he sets people off. one way or another. lawyers have been questioning the jury pool, looking at their social media for potential bias. one man was asked about a 2017 facebook post

where he wrote, get him out and lock him up. that man was dismissed from the case. trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide a payment he made to former fixer michael cohen to pay off adult film actress stormy daniels to keep her quiet about a long denied affair. prosecutors say trump falsified documents to hide that information from voters in the 2016 election. trump has pleaded not guilty. i was paying a lawyer and marked it down as a legal expense. >> some accountant i didn't know marked it down as a legal expense. that's exactly what it was. and you get indicted over that while trump is in court. >> president biden is on the campaign trail today. he is going to pittsburgh to meet with steelworkers. biden has said he would not be watching trump's trial. instead, he says he will be talking about the issues in washington. perry russom abc seven news. >> happening today, the hawaii attorney general is expected to release the first phase of an extensive report on the august

wildfires on maui. amanda is at the live desk tracking the latest on this. >> amanda kumasi. we are working to learn more about what exactly happened during the deadly maui wildfires back in august. the state's attorney general is set to release that information later this afternoon. the report is expected to address the 72 hours before, during and after the fire. the maui fire department yesterday released its own report about what happened. the western fire chiefs association was hired to make its own third party after action report. it highlights at least 17 areas for improvement along with recommendations including the fire department needing more equipment after dealing with poorly stocked fire engines. all backup firefighting vehicles needing to be kept ready to go and there should be a statewide mutual aid program and an evacuation plan for residents and tourists who speak different languages. maui county officials say the fire department has already started addressing these challenge areas . the cause for the wildfires is

have increased. the jails are understaffed by about 100 workers. they're supposed to have 500. right now. they have a little under 400 for now, reporting live here in san francisco. ryan curry, abc seven news. >> thank you. ryan and the south bay a man who once was a star on a house flipping show is now heading to jail. instead of remodeling homes, prosecutors say he was taking that money and spending it on lavish items for himself. charles todd hill from the hgtv show flip it to win. it is also ordered to pay close to $10 million for real estate and financial fraud. the prosecutor in the case says hill scams, including a ponzi scheme, impacted 18 homes in silicon valley. >> the point was to purchase the home and remodel them and sell them for a profit. he would take the money that was given to remodel the home and spend it on luxury cars, vacations, partying, as he has stated and

backgrounds is a growing and poisonous hatred of jews. >> according to the audit, there were 397 incidents of targeted online and in-person harassment and seven assaults and 98 acts of vandalism in northern california. the audit comes on the heels of a report by the country's largest muslim civil rights organization, showing the largest spike in anti-muslim hate in 30 years in sacramento. >> the push for reparations for black californians is moving forward. yesterday, two bills were voted out of the committee process with little opposition. the first bill would establish a fund to finance reparation measures by moving 6% of funds set aside annually, and the special fund for economic uncertainties. the second bill, sb 1050, would establish a procedure to restore property taken during race based uses of eminent domain to its original owners, or provide compensation. one of the families that testified is the johnson family.
