>> know they are really playing us. are they not? spice girls reunion. the event that brought the five women back together over the weekend, fans are thanking david beckham for a look at the party. all right, but just a look because they're not going on tour. okay, good. i mean as far as i know. good morning. on this monday, april 22nd. >> yes, we're going to start the check of our forecast. yeah, we had a wonderful weekend. >> some of that warm weather will continue today. here's a live look outside at sutro tower. we do have good visibility. some clouds are banked up along the coast this morning. and we do anticipate later on this afternoon that our marine layer will begin to surge back across the region. but before it does, we'll get one more warm afternoon in. in fact, this morning, it's pretty mild in most cities right now. it's 60 degrees in san jose, the same in brentwood right now at 56 in concord, the city at 54. the same in oakland. santa rosa right now coming in with a temperature of 51 degrees. so we already have that mild air in place this morning. and it's

another day where temperatures will go above average. but what we're watching though, along the coast, we'll watch that marine layer turn up from the south to north later on. this afternoon. that keeps temperatures in the 50s and 60s around the bay, shoreline and inland. it will feel quite warm in the 70s and in the 80s, so highs today will go to 73 in oakland, but 82 in antioch, the same in san jose, 77 in napa, much cooler along the coast, half moon bay, 61 degrees tomorrow. those temperatures do get even cooler. we'll show you that cool down coming kumasi in about eight minutes. >> thank you. drew. developing news that could impact your morning commute. ferry service between sausalito and san francisco has been suspended until further notice. there's a structural issue with the pier in sausalito. that's where we find abc seven news reporter lena howland and lena. riders are being asked to look for busses now in front of the terminal. >> yeah, that's right. kumasi. good morning to you. today, instead of taking the ferry, passengers are being told to look for busses parked right outside of the terminal. now, this is happening while the

sausalito pier remains closed after an issue requiring immediate attention was discovered during a routine inspection on friday. over the weekend, signs could be seen all around the pier saying the ferry service between san francisco and sausalito had been suspended until further notice. yesterday we spotted a large crane and a barge ready to do work, a city council member says they can't do any work until low tide. that's just before 5:00. meanwhile, golden gate ferry service is suspended until the repairs can be made. the change confused visitors. we found at the dock. >> i was originally planning to ride a ferry from san francisco to here and then back, so luckily we drove here. so yeah, i guess we're okay. >> well that's right. yeah, yeah , because it's quite a nice ride across the bay, but i see it's closed, but at least there's an alternative service. so that's something i guess. >> now it's still unclear when

the ships will resume their back and forth routes across the bay. the golden gate ferry service said friday that the vessels on that route, which carry about 500 daily passengers, commuters and tourists alike, will be out of commission indefinitely. now we will let you know when this service will be restored, but in the meantime, be sure to look out for the busses parked right in front of the terminal this morning. for now, reporting live in sausalito. lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you lena, we're learning more about a scary situation at this church in san francisco. someone stabbed a parishioner outside after interrupting sunday service. the attack happened outside saints peter and paul catholic church in north beach yesterday afternoon. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone talked to church leaders who say this is all part of a bigger problem. yellow crime scene tape flapping in the breeze. >> outside of not only one of san francisco's most well known churches, but a spot where witnesses say a church

parishioner was stabbed in the leg on sunday. >> several units your suspect has blocked shorts. unknown length of the knife there in the middle of the street. >> church leaders at north beach's saints peter and paul church tell abc seven news that the eventual suspect, who they believe is unhoused, first came inside during a confirmation service. the archbishop of san francisco was there, along with a very large congregation. due to safety concerns, leaders escorted the man outside. witnesses say he was speaking with someone saying, quote, jesus is not real. end quote. those witnesses went on to say that a short time later, that man stabbed a church parishioner in the street man's wife then called 911. church leaders tell me that several people actually held this stabbing suspect down in the street until police arrived. the man was arrested, but many community members i spoke with across the street in washington square are angry. >> these people are not looking for help. they're just like

whacked out of their mind, whether it be drugs or whatever it is. like the city is just not doing anything about it. church leaders say they believe another unhoused individual came in a short time earlier during the confirmation service, walking up and down the main aisle with a bottle of wine. >> that man left, but his actions had some on edge, only to then have this second incident. regina scolaro, whose son goes to school here and says she's frustrated with the city right now, but not surprised by this until we figure out how to solve this problem and solve it with with compassion and also, you know, crack down on things for people that need to really understand there are consequences to their behavior. san francisco police say charges against the stabbing suspect are pending and the victim's injuries are non-life threatening. j.r. stone, abc seven news five security guards at a bar in petaluma are under

arrest, accused of assaulting a customer. >> this happened saturday night at jameson's roaring donkey in the heart of town. police say the customer, who was sober after feud with the security guards who tried to kick a woman out of a bathroom. officers say the bouncers then repeatedly hit him inside the bar and continued the assault on the sidewalk outside. police arrested the guards on suspicion of battery and conspiracy. >> happening today, the hush money trial for donald trump will begin in new york city for the first time in history, prosecutors will present a criminal case against a former american president. amanda, what can we expect today, reggie? >> opening statements in former president donald trump's hush money trial are set for this morning in a manhattan courtroom. then the first witness will be called. trump is accused of falsifying business records to keep claims of an alleged affair with adult film star stormy daniels from damaging his 2016 campaign. prosecutors have not said publicly who their first witness will be, but daniels is expected

to testify. we may also hear from former tabloid publisher david pecker, who prosecutors say helped find and suppress negative stories about trump. michael cohen is also expected to take the stand. he is trump's former attorney who already went to federal prison for his role in the hush money matter. trump has denied all allegations and says the trial is politically motivated. his allies have echoed those claims. >> i'm hoping that this judge makes the right decision. i'm hoping these jurors can come in and be unbiased and will we'll let this case go forward in a swift manner that allows president trump to get back on the campaign trail. >> this trial is expected to last six weeks, with court in session four days per week. trump will not be able to campaign during the trial. he faces up to four years in prison if convicted, but a conviction would not prevent him from becoming president again. back to you at the desk, kumasi. >> thank you. amanda. good news for drivers in the north bay westbound highway 37 reopened ahead of schedule. so 21 miles

from vallejo to sears point was closed over the weekend for repaving, and that caused some long delays along the detour route. caltrans says it used nearly 5000 tons of asphalt, more than 300 trucks. the westbound construction continues this coming weekend, and then the eastbound lanes will be closed for the following two weekends. >> a live look outside, now at 508. good air quality is expected across the bay area today. the bay area air quality management district coded the next three days as green, which is the best that we can get. the agency uses colors to show how healthy the air is to breathe. >> purple is the worst, and with that good air quality red, you will have a nice forecast. if you're traveling though. today, let's look at some of your major hubs, and it's a really quiet forecast across a huge portion of the country. you could see lots of sunshine from new york even to denver, atlanta, seattle, chicago. a chance of an afternoon shower, but still, 67 degrees is looking quite lovely back here at home. we will see another day of warm

temperatures, a little bit of cloud cover out there this morning. banked up right along the coast for most of us. we are seeing clear conditions early on. temperatures are pretty mild right now. we're in the 50s, if not the low 60s in some areas. we'll get sunshine throughout the day. temperatures well into the 60s and then into the 70s and 80s later on. this afternoon. let's break it down region by region. first, inland is nothing but sunshine. today. we're already into the 80s around lunchtime. we'll stay there throughout the afternoon around the bay shoreline. we'll find some early morning clouds giving way to brighter skies and some mild temperatures 74 degrees. a lot of 70s around the bay shoreline. in fact, along the coast, though what we'll find is early on some sunshine giving way to our marine layer later on this afternoon. so by 3 p.m, the fog returns along the coast. that keeps temperatures cool there in the mid 50s. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. we have this trough that is moving in our direction, and that will bring about a cool down tomorrow and well into much of the week ahead. so take a look at the three day forecast. we have a sunny and mild to warm day

( ♪ ) the us supreme court today. a man of that decision could have a major impact on the way. bay area leaders are able to address the crisis that we're facing. >> yeah. reggie. california leaders and homeless advocates are both watching this case closely. arguments center around whether unhoused people can be punished for sleeping outdoors when they have no other options. this fight goes back more than a decade to 2013. that's when the

city of grants pass, oregon, passed an ordinance banning people from sleeping in public spaces because there were no shelters in grants pass, a homeless group sued and won. it argued the ban violated the constitution's eighth amendment, barring cruel and unusual punishment. the case then went to the ninth circuit court of appeals, which is based in san francisco, and won there as well. >> the reality is, the only thing that works is more more permanent affordable housing. >> the supreme court is expected to make a ruling by the end of june. that decision will have an impact on how san francisco handles the unhoused. earlier this year, a separate lawsuit over how the city clears encampment was put on hold pending a decision in the grants pass case back to you. kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. this week, governor newsom is planning to propose legislation to make it easier for people to get people from arizona to get abortions here in response to that state's near total abortion ban. so the

governor wants to offer abortion providers in arizona a way to quickly get licensed to offer care here in california. it's something arizona's attorney general called for after the state supreme court upheld that 160 year old ban providers in california are expecting a surge of patients from arizona and say they would need help from doctors here to handle the demand soon. >> when you pay your p-g-and-e's bill every month, you may not be paying just for electricity. you may also be paying for their commercial needs. a new bill trying to change that gets a second chance. today, lawmakers are considering banning utility companies like p-g-and-e's from using customer money to pay for advertising and lobbying. p-g-and-e's has a plan to spend $6 million of customer money on commercials touting the company's work to manage wildfire risk. >> they shouldn't be using our money, our ratepayer money, when they have huge pots of shareholder money they can use for that purpose, the company argues. >> the bill would take power

away from state regulators who review what p-g-and-e's charges us for. the bill failed in committee last week. it's back up for another vote today. >> waymo robots are now a common sight on san francisco streets. new data shows us where they are driving the most. so the chronicle crunched the numbers and reported to state that the numbers that were reported to state regulators in the first six months of waymo's commercial service hayes valley, mission bay, south of market and the mission are the hot spots for the robo taxis. waymo says it gave rise to more than half a million people from september through february. the company told the chronicle the busiest nights are fridays and saturdays or anytime there's an event at chase center. waymo says some riders are using the robo taxis to get to work every day. >> a colorful procession of drummers, dancers and decorative floats made their way through san francisco's japantown yesterday marked the end of the

norcal cherry blossom festival. >> it shows everyone just all the little parts of what makes the japanese culture amazing. and so let it be the yosakoi dancing. let it be taiko drums. the one float i'm always impressed with is our queen court, and so it's always so proud to see what the next leaders of japantown will be. yeah thousands of attendees this year enjoy the annual bloom and dozens of activities, performances, and vendors. >> look at all the people. >> listen. >> i'm glad to see it. it was really beautiful. the cherry blossom festival is the last main event before the peace plaza closes. they're going to do a two year, $34 million renovation project. they're singer and fashion designer victoria beckham celebrated her 50th birthday over the weekend, and fans of the spice girls are excited to see the girl group back together. >> so posh spice shared this video of the group singing and dancing to their song stop and then you can see david beckham back there. victoria's husband uh- recording and selfie mode. victoria wrote best night ever.

weather pattern for one more day today. and then things start to change here tomorrow. it's warm out there already for this time of the morning at 60 in san jose, 54 in oakland, and in the city, 60 in brentwood. so we already have the launching pad to get us into another mild to warm afternoon on the way. later today. we do have some changes to the pollen forecast and it's not great news. trees are still high and now this week we are seeing grasses at medium levels. before today, we didn't really have to deal with that. that's a change to the forecast with the pollen index. weeds and mold are still at low levels right now. so highs today in our microclimates. let's start in the south bay a mild to warm day. we'll hit 82 in san jose, 74 in gilroy. but along the coast in santa cruz are marine. layer does come back this afternoon. so that keeps the coast cool in the 60s 66 degrees for santa cruz, 61 for half moon bay. brighter as you head towards redwood city and warmer at 76, the same in mountain view. we'll go to 75 in san mateo. downtown today will hit 68 with those clouds rolling back in this afternoon. cooler a bit of a breeze in daly city coming in at 65 degrees. the

north bay. mostly sunny, 80 in santa rosa, 76, in novato, 73 in san rafael, 77 in napa, the east bay today. bright sunshine. 73 in oakland, 78, fremont, the same in castro valley and then inland. it's a warm day today. 83 in brentwood, 80 in san ramon, 81 in concord. overnight tonight, we'll keep those partly cloudy skies and temperatures, mainly in the upper 40s to the mid 50s. now, late in the week, future weather showing you wednesday. we'll find some coastal drizzle developing, but it's friday that this trough will bring an area of low pressure onshore. so friday morning we could see some light rain to start out the day. a lot of cloud cover friday, but it's just a day that's going to feature below average temperatures and a little bit of wet weather. here's the accuweather seven day forecast next seven days for you. sunny and warm today. breezy and cooler tomorrow. you'll notice that drop in temperatures and that cooling trend continues for much of the week ahead. by friday, it's cloudy with a chance of showers, but will brighten up. we'll start to bring a warm up into the forecast for saturday and sunday guys. >> thank you drew. coming up, the seven things to know this

bayshore nasa station. >> now to the ceremonial sendoff for bart's original train cars. bart held a retirement ceremony in oakland's macarthur station. and look, people showed up, hundreds of them to see the final dispatch of trains that traveled the bay area for decades. they departed from macarthur and went to fremont station. that was the original route from the 1972 opening. >> it's bittersweet this is the legacy fleet is a 52 year old family member of the bart system . it's carried us. it's delivered bart for 52 years. so it's a little sad. on its final journey. >> oh, goodbye. >> oh, friend. >> a majority of the legacy bart trains will be recycled. bart's fleet of the future railcars, which first went into service in 2017, have now entirely replaced the legacy trains. >> not bad. goodbye. >> no. a valley threw a party for its pricey public toilet.

of town. so i can see why people showed up. actor kevin bacon made it back to visit the iconic footloose film location in salt lake city before it was demolished. the actor showed up at payson high school just in time for the final prom night and the movie's 40th anniversary. students try to get him to make an appearance for more than a year, and it finally happened. bacon called the film and the school a big part of his life. >> i also think that it's amazing the power that this movie has had to just kind of bring people together. >> why were more people at the toilet party and the bart farewell to the dusty trains friend? then at this friend, footloose star bacon as a teenager who moves to a small town that forbids dancing. his character works to overturn it. payson high is set to relocate at the end of the school year, turning hospitals into housing the two sites that could add 1300 units in san francisco. so

be another warm day. today we're wrapping up just a fantastic weekend ahead. whether that sunshine, those warm conditions that will continue for one more day to day temperatures right now. look at this. i mean, san jose is currently at 60 degrees. so we do have some mild air already out there this morning 58 in hayward. but half moon bay we have that marine air influence down to 46 there in the north bay to mixed bag of 40s and 50s for the most part. 50 in santa rosa, 49, mill valley 54 right now in vallejo. what we'll find today is a pretty wide range of temperatures. the coast thanks to that marine layer, stays relatively cool in the 50s and low 60s, but you hop around the bay shoreline and it's nice and mild into the 70s this afternoon and was full sunshine. and then we'll go back into the low 80s for daytime highs. a close look at those highs today. we'll hit 73 in oakland, 80 in santa rosa, a warm 82 in san jose. but along the coast we have that cooler air. half moon bay 6168. in the city, even cooler weather moves in here tomorrow. reggie, we'll show you those numbers coming up in about eight minutes.

>> thank you. developing news in the israel-hamas war. the head of israel's military intelligence is out. he announced he's retiring overnight while taking responsibility for intelligence failures before the deadly october 7th attack by hamas. this morning, a large explosion and plume plumes of smoke were seen in gaza, israel has carried out near-daily air raids on rafah, where more than half of gaza's population has sought refuge from fighting elsewhere. the us house of representatives approved a foreign aid package on saturday that includes around $9 billion in humanitarian assistance for gaza. passover begins tonight, but it comes amid several threats and loss. abc seven news reporter tara campbell talked to synagogues stepping up precautions and families changing traditions as the israel-hamas war continues. >> the calls to bring them home continue. the bay area jewish community preparing for a celebratory yet somber passover. >> i really hope that this holiday, what brings us together is our humanity and our

the city may spend $20 million to buy properties for the oaklan roots. that's a minor league soccer team. our partners at the bay area news group report the city is considering buying o two properties from alameda county. one is the old raiders practice facility on harbor bay parkway, right next to the oakland airport. the other is a giant parking lot next to the coliseum known as the malibu lot. right now, the oakland roots practice at the former raiders compound wants to build a soccer stadium on the site near the coliseum. the city and county have co-owned the properties for years. at the end of the month, the oakland city council is set to vote on buying out the county's share. >> microsoft has a new feature, an ai feature that could possibly take your online content to the next level so that's a one is a tool that turns photos even drawings, into realistic videos of people talking and singing. what write the software company says it can be used for things like education or as an online
