>> your dream come true. >> this is what it feels like. it is fun day monday, everybody. it is may the 5th, 2014, cinco de mayo. billy bush and i are live from "the voice" stage in los angeles. okay. >> this is a dream come true for you. right? you love -- >> if i could sing, i can only imagine what it must feel like to be on the stage with the judges sitting in those four chairs right in front of us turning. blake turning. >> looking at you. >> looking at me. >> by the way, getting you out of blake's dressing room this morning took a long time, but i'm glad we finally did it and here we are, because this place has history. they did "scar face" on this studio, in this stage. they're going to remake "scar face." can we agree you don't remake "scar face"? >> yes, leave that alone. kathie lee is usually here. billy bush, such a great guy, came today.

you know kathie fell down the stairs, she was talking about it and her knee was swollen and the doctor said to her, when you have a swollen knee and bruising and stuff, it is not a good idea to fly. so billy bush is pinch hitting today and we're going to have some fun. >> a little phone call last night, in fact, just before dinner. i had a nice text exchange with kathie, she's doing good. >> we'll see her tomorrow. okay. so, again, we do have a great show. we're going it meet two of the new coaches. gwen stefani and pharrell. >> this is good stuff. >> we'll talk about them. in a minute. but we got to show you where we are. because this stage -- and before you get here, it is hard to know what's what. so we'll show you around. so, first of all, the performance stage is right here. this is where everyone does their performing on stage. okay. now, if you go over to the sky box, which is up there, that's where carson hangs out and does his thing.

so tell me about this new adventure that you two are on. you're joining "the voice". >> i just found out about this. i'm trying to, like, pinch myself. is this really happening? >> it is magical. it is serendipitous. we have always had, like, a special connection. and it was always through music that we recognize, like, each other's admiration and the depth of such potential. >> it is a connection that goes back more than ten years. >> i just love this song, you guys. i didn't even know it was the two of you together. ♪ all the girls there ain't no holler back girl ♪ >> this song came together in the wee dawn hours of the morning. what was going on? it was 4:00, 5:00 a.m.? >> i knew what i wanted and i described it to him. he goes, oh, yeah. it is like he had it in there already but he had forgotten about it and just does this

thing. >> nbc, they are allowing me a platform to speak to millions of people at night, to say to them, what i would say to a contestant. my advice is always going to have a consistent thread of be you. if it doesn't work for the show, that's okay. for example -- >> something i love, you give everything away. whenever someone asks you about something you do, you know what, all well and good. but, gwen is one better or this one -- >> it sounds like i'm giving it away because you're so used to everybody saying i or me. >> i am used to it. >> but what was "holler back" without her. >> it was nothing. it was nothing without you. >> that's right. you'll see what gwen and i do, we're going to take a slightly different approach, always going to hold up the mirror and show people how rad they are already. >> you like that approach, gwen? are you into that? >> i like him. he's rad. >> i think you guys are going to change the whole thing.

the second coming. she said you got to meet this guy. he's this guy who has been in the shadows, and finally exploded. did you expect this thing to be such a hit? >> i didn't. i mean, i did, i thought it had an incredible team, but you never know, like the tv gods are a little fickle as we all know. but i think the reason the show is so well received is that you kind of feel like you have a big hug at the end -- you feel better at the end of the episode than you did at the beginning. and i met a guy, a 300 pound former hell's angel and he said to me, the key to life is ten hugs a day. >> no. >> i love that. big old biker said that? >> yes. how many hugs have you had? >> i just had one with you, and one with you this morning. is this three? >> hug thing again. >> hoda? >> oh. >> ladies, get in line. >> he does smell good.

save the kids, be a hero, go home. >> no. i can't go home yet. we're in a war with widener. if i don't finish him, we're all dead. >> the show is "crisis," and it also stars lance gross and rachael taylor as the federal agents trying to take his character down. i watched last night. i got sucked in by all the evil characters. i'm not so sure you're that evil, though. >> you have a little -- a little evil. >> you come to learn that my motivations are understandable. my methods on the other hand may be -- you could call into question. >> there are a lot of shows on all the networks, "crisis" is one of the shows you have to be told about, but once you watch the first episode, and the concept is a bus load of important kids get kidnapped and we look at you and you turn out to be a hero, because your buddies shoot you on episode one. >> i'm the protector, the secret

service agent. i have my hands full with the president's son, but not only him, the children of some of the most important people in the world. >> how are you going to rescue the kids? you're in on the rescue. >> i am in on the rescue, but for a time i was convinced my character was in cahoots with dermot's character. i thought i was evil. but i'm not. i'm on the side of good with lance. and, yeah, it is our job to try to rescue these very valuable kidnapped children. but things get more complicated as the series unfolds. >> the story gets more complicated. it is going to get more complicated. everybody has their own personal reasons brought in through their characters. but this part of the show you're talking about becomes a great -- like "the fugitive" or one of those movies where the good guys are trying to track down the bad guys. >> you're like a wounded bird. i see a wounded bird there. >> it is all harsh. >> this guy is hurt. i feel for this guy. >> he's evil.

we're back from los angeles. i absolutely love this set. billy bush left the building to get ready for "access hollywood live," but our real moms have joined me on the set of "the voice" with movie picks to celebrate mother's day. there is a perfect mom film hitting theaters this weekend. it is called "mom's night out." if you have to stay in and spend quality time together at home, we got some suggestions. you know who's here? tara mcnamara, mother of three and fandango film mom, janelle inez known as the handy ma'am. and the mother of three. and angela chee, known as the zen mom, two kids. why is everyone known as something? that's the way it works? let's start talking about these

movies. let's talk "brave" it was a home run for all kids. tell us what your thoughts are. >> it is about a princess who disagrees with her mother's decision, she gets a witch to cast a spell to change her mom and gets some very unexpected results. it is a fun, funny, adventure and it is really about just taking responsibility for your actions, which is a topic of conversation in my home quite a bit. >> has a grown up theme for the moms who go with their daughters, they'll enjoy it too. >> absolutely. it is that classic mother and daughter relationship, the daughter wanted to be one way, and the mother wanted it to be another way. and then finally having to come together. and say, i do get you. we get each other, you know? >> let's switch topics. let's go to "annie". tell us why you think that's a good pick? >> it is a classic musical. it is so fun. who doesn't remember those songs. i won't go into singing it, but you know the songs. ♪

daddy warbucks and one of those films that is really about being optimistic in life and that good things can happen. so really good theme for mothers and daughters and sons. >> translate for younger kids, do you think? >> i think it does. the songs are so catchy, my 3-year-old watched it with me yesterday, just like curled up in my lap, it was amazing. loved it. but what is really great, they're actually remaking this movie, coming out christmas. it is the most anticipated family film of theear. >> the joy luck club for older kids, right? >> much older kids. that's the movie you want to go see when you want to feel good about your life. >> the joy luck club, i'm chinese-american, so i have a little relationship with that, but i think it relates to all mother/daughter relationships
