now we got bad blood hey ♪ [ laughter ] >> jimmy: happy friday -- happy friday the 13th. well, some political news. after failing to gain enough support from republicans, congressman steve scalise has dropped out of the race for house speaker. yep. if we're using republicans to measure time, a scalise is even shorter than a scaramucci. [ laughter ] "i just came in for a quick scalise. [ laughter ] it wasn't a full scaramucci. the house is a mess. mccarthy got voted out, scalise couldn't get enough votes, and the interim speaker slams the gavel like he's playing whack a mole [ gavel slamming ] [ laughter ] that's right, the search for a a new speaker has been pretty chaotic. first, it was kevin mccarthy, then it was steve scalise, and now it doesn't seem like anyone else can get enough votes. but tonight, the house finally picked a new nominee and he's here, now, via

of course, since it's netflix, people are like, "we like to skip the appetizer and go right to the main course the only rule of the netflix restaurant is, you can't share your food. >> steve: oh [ laughter ] [ audience groans >> jimmy: hey, i read that jeff bezos just bought his florida neighbor's mansion for $79 million. [ audience ohs ] jeff bezos is the only person who sees an $80 million mansion and goes, "closet? [ laughter ] and finally, a man pleading guilty to stealing the "wizard of oz" ruby slippers from a museum in minnesota. yeah or as he tells his cellmate, "murder, i'm in for murder." >> jimmy: hey, everybody, welcome! i went to go see "gutenberg!" last night >> steve: oh, how was it >> jimmy: this is -- this is my actual -- it's all -- it's all -- i thought i'd get a a nice, new, crisp one, but this is the one i had and was moving around. >> steve: in your pocket >> jimmy: i didn't put it in my pocket >> steve: it's got the sticker on it's got the opening night sticker. >> jimmy: when you go to opening night, you get the sticker. so, that's what i wanted to show off yeah, you get that special sticker. it was unbelievable. they were hilarious. it was great it was at the james earl jones theatre here on broadway i haven't been to a broadway play in a little bit so, i mean, the show's been off for five months, so i haven't really been around [ light laughter ] but it was so great. i loved everyone that put on this -- the play and everyone that works there around. i just miss broadway i loved seeing the -- they did the red carpet i saw the broadway.com guy i love that guy. >> steve: oh >> jimmy: he's fantastic i saw him. i -- i -- it was -- i saw anna wintour >> steve: ooh. 'cause i was like -- she knows i adore her. 'cause i've run into her several times. and she's probably got me on some security list, to, like, keep me away [ laughter ] >> jimmy: are you in the lamb? are you in the lambily >> i love her. i love her, yes. but i -- i did something stupid she came on "the voice" and we were work together and i just sometimes i say everything that's in my brain and i shouldn't do that. but i was trying to say, because she was like, "oh, yeah, like, you're writing, too. i was like, "oh, my god. well, i know all your songs. i'm a huge fan of her. people don't realize she wrote all of that. like, not just sang it like, she wrote everything and she was like, "we should write together." and then, in my head, i was just like, "oh, yeah i don't really write -- i can't be like that vulnerable, like, in a room. i usually just write on my --" and then, i walked away. and my friends were like, "do you realize you just told mariah carey no?

[ laughter ] >> jimmy: mariah carey wants to write a song with you and you were like - "that's not what it meant. >> i know. that's not what i meant. i meant, i'm not -- the best writing for me doesn't come out in that scenario i'm usually alone. any time you see my name on a song, i wrote it, usually, alone. >> jimmy: yeah, you would love to write a song with mariah carey >> i would love to - i love you, mariah carey [ laughter ] and i will -- i will risk it for you. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: of course, yeah. but i just saw you recently. you made some headlines because you rewrote the lyrics to -- >> oh, "piece by piece." >> jimmy: "piece by piece. >> i didn't realize it was gonna -- i just -- look, i was finding a hard time singing it like, i was like, i don't know if i want to really sing that, you know i'm at a different place i rewrote it literally an hour before i went on stage in vegas to, like, sing it.ma 'cause i was like, "i can't sing these lyrics. but i know people want me to sing the song. >> jimmy: of course. >> and so, i changed it right before the show. and, you know, it kind of put perspective on me as well. it's like that was a lot of pressure to put on someone, you know, to pick up the pieces of something of your past

so, it was kind of -- it was a a lot of -- there was a lot going on for me that day, but it ended up working out. >> jimmy: do you get emotional when you - >> do i get emotional anywhere all the time [ laughter ] like, right now? >> jimmy: hell, this is my venti! hello! >> welcome to 30 rock! >> jimmy: i did not want a a venti! i wanted a large this is too large! now, no one drinks it! >> i don't even know what happened it slipped it slipped i don't know what happened >> jimmy: wow. >> it was art. art. >> jimmy: i mean, you're doing this and i go like, "oof.' i think i would get like all kind of -- i don't know if i'd make it through the song >> i don't know. you just do. >> jimmy: you just do, of course >> yeah, you just do but yeah, the audience was really -- my audience is cool. and they were like, cheering me on, because they noticed i started changing them. they're very intimate shows. and so, these are like fans that have been with me for the ride and they notice. and then, they're all, like, screaming. like, i'm like rudy, you know, at the end of the movie. like, making it. "you made it!" >> jimmy: they're carrying you on their shoulders like, "yeah, kelly! >> she's making it >> jimmy: "she did it. "chemistry" is the name of the album. i love the title >> thank you >> jimmy: did you always know that was going to be your title? >> you know what, once i wrote that song, i kind of envisioned it as the title for it, just because it's definitely

a roller coaster it's just not a divorce album, it's a relationship album. there's the good and bad and the hard all of it is in there. so, "chemistry" can be good and bad as i've personally found out as well. [ light laughter ] so yeah, i kind of knew that tonight you're doing "lighthouse" for us, but you're doing a special performance tomorrow night >> yes, i am i'm actually, this is awesome, i'm performing -- audacy's put together this "we can survive" concert. and a bunch of artists are coming together for such a a great cause. and actually, i have a ticket for everybody in the audience to come.
