week. >> not the strongest storm of the season but certainly a decent amount of rainfall coming our way as we had tonight and tomorrow. the storm front office moving into northern california. is picking up the rainfall. let's take a look at store major doppler radar, consistent rain over the northbay .'s body rain in the peninsula as we track this moving off toward the east. it's picking up rainfall through 11:44. you will also see another round of rain and berkeley by 11:23, oakland through the next 45 minutes. we will continue to track more of this rain but i also wanted to show you the rain season and how we are doing. we are at a surplus of 3 inches in san francisco and san jose. doing the best in santa rosa, up over 5 inches. not only good on that front but look at the sierra snowpack. 116% of normal in the northern sierra, 101% in the central. we will take a look at the rainfall through tomorrow, plus the warmer windy weather on the way. i will have that for you and 18 minutes. thank you, jeff. before you head out the door

tomorrow morning, check in with our today in the bay team for the latest on the weather and traffic. that newscast begins at 5:00 a.m. a developing story in contra costa county, a suspect is in custody after allegedly stealing a car with a two-year- old child inside the car. the car has been recovered and thankfully the toddler is safely reunited with family. tonight, the family is sharing some security video with us. here is nbc's peter surrenders. >> we are extremely thankful that, in this particular incident, you know, the child's attempt. >> reporter: piggy child says officers jumped into action quickly, responding to reports of a stolen car with a two-year- old inside of it. the incident taking place along california avenue around 1:30 p.m. with surveillance video showing the suspect getting into the driver seat before taking off. the car plunked to the mother of the two-year-old, who told me off, she left the drivers door open and car running because she was quickly dropping off something at her mom's house. thankfully, police located the stolen car within 20 minutes in

the city of richfield and the two-year-old inside, unharmed and reunited that child with her family. >> just a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings. >> reporter: the suspect, 35- year-old joy kelly shut, stole the victim's cell phone, which helped police locator and police say she was driving a stolen car out of hayward at the time of her arrest. she is booked at the contra costa county jail, facing vehicle theft and kidnapping charges. >> this was a collective effort between our officers, our dispatchers, and also our neighboring agencies. >> reporter: this is still an active investigation and police are not ruling out the possibility of more suspects. if you have any information to help out with this case, contact san pablo pd. pizza runners, nbc very bay area news. scott peterson, convicted of killing his wife and unborn baby had a status hearing in redwood city tomorrow. los angeles innocence project decided to take up his case in january. >> the motions were filed here at san mateo county superior

court, claiming new evidence supports peterson's claim of innocence. the case continues to grip the bay area. let's bring in new details, jocelyn. >> we spoke with legal analyst stephen clark, who took it down for us. the innocence project will be focusing on a few things, including a van that was burned at the time of lacy peterson's appearance in the burglary that occurred across the street from their home. tomorrow is the first date in what is expected to be a lengthy process. it is the case from modesto that captivated the country. in 2004, scott peterson was convicted in the murder of his wife, lacy peterson, and their unborn child, connor. 20 years later, the attention is back on this case after the l.a. innocence project decided to take it up. >> they have exonerated many people throughout the years by

using up-to-date d.n.a. technology and other forensic information and they are going to bring that expertise to scott peterson's case. the innocence project is going to start from the ground up and they will look at the case as to whether there's any alternative theories as to what happened to lacy and connor peterson. >> reporter: legal analyst stephen clark says among the things attorneys will be focused on is a van that was burned. lacy peterson's home. >> they want to go through that fan and analyze whether any d.n.a. was there from lacy peterson. that will be a very big deal. >> reporter: he says they will also focus on the burglary that occurred near lacy peterson's home and they will want to talk to witnesses. scott peterson told investigators he left the morning of christmas eve and thus and to fish and berkeley. the remains of lacy peterson and their unborn son surfaced months later a few miles from where peterson said he was facing. clark says the key in this case for the l.a. innocence project will be can they establish that lacy peterson may have doubled life when scott peterson went fishing? as far as tomorrow, the court will likely set a timetable. >> so that all the information is made available to the innocence project and that they can get there forensic teams in

to actually do the testing. then it will be up to the prosecution to review that information to see whether there is any merit to it. >> reporter: he also says it will likely take many months to drop any significant conclusions as to whether scott peterson will get a new trial but he says this is scott peterson's last and best hope for a new trial. peterson will not be at court in person. he will appear via lifestream. live in studio, jocelyn moran, nbc bay area news. the federal women's prison in the east bay under intense scrutiny by the feds tonight. this morning, fbi agents raided the federal correctional institute in dublin and ousted the current wording. it is the same low security prison where felicity felicity huffman the time for the college admission scandal. investigators would only say today search was a court authorized operation. the

prison has been dealing with charges of sexual abuse and medical neglect for years. two years ago, the previous warden was convicted of sexually abusing three inmates. last year, two guards were charged with abusing several inmates. advocate for female prisoners told us today that she is concerned other victims are being silenced. >> they are dealing with this on a daily basis and they are, it is so dangerous to speak up because of strip searches, because of getting transferred. >> a spokesperson for the federal bureau of prisons as the team is working to make positive cultural changes at that dublin prison and that a new interim warden was named this morning. new video tonight of a high- speed chase in sonoma county. police say three suspects stole several thousand dollars worth of items from a store in santa rosa. chp shoppers spotted the car driving south on 101. investigators say that car was going within 100 miles per hour at times and driving on the shoulder of the freeway when they collided with a minivan between capote and petaluma. the driver of that kia minivan

was injured. another blow to oakland. two taco bell locations have closed their dining rooms for safety reasons. the 35th avenue and burger locations are now drive-through only. the chain says the move was made by the franchise owner. the closures causing long drive- through lines and, in some cases, confusion because some customers without cars are walking through the drive- through. taco bell joins a growing list of restaurants near the oakland airport making a similar or the same move. last year, raising canes closed its dining room and in and out burger's and they are closing there only open location at the end of this month. the war in gaza front and center on the peninsula as the redwood city council considers a cease-fire resolution. that calls for an end to the

mcsweeney, nbc bay area news. hundreds of jewish students and supporters rallied at uc berkeley bridging the school to provide more safety and security for them on campus. last month, pro-palestinian students disrupted a private event that had to be abruptly canceled because of security concerns. for the past month, jewish students say they have been blocked and harassed at the entrance of campus. two palestinian activists say they are not blocking the gate, simply making a statement. >> target with this gate is not to have any conversation with zionist it is to pressure the university to divest from the genocide of our people. >> one professor has also been staging a sit in for days in his office, sleeping and working there as a protest to what he sees as the lack of action from the university to make a jewish students feel safe. tomorrow marks one week since super tuesday and results from the election are still being tallied. the majority of voters vote by mail, which often causes long wait times for the results.

either united airlines suffering from a streak of really bad luck with your some real problems with its fleet and staff. today, another emergency. this time on a united flight from sydney, australia to sfo. 10 seconds after takeoff from sydney, you can see fluid spewing out near the landing gear. the plane had to turn around in at least the fifth emergency landing involving united in about a week. before the boeing 777 landed back in sydney, it flew over the ocean for a few minutes. this video from a passenger shows the crew dumping fuel before the landing. the plane did arrive safely back in sydney. the passengers were rebooked and continued with their attorneys. last week, on thursday, a wheel fell off a united 777 200 jet from sfo to japan. that will smashed to two cars

on an employee parking lot at sfo. last week on friday, a united airbus 320 heading from sfo to mexico city had to reroute to l.a. because of a hydraulic issue. aviation expert and retired pilot doug wright tells a story the problems are linked from san francisco is concerning. >> there is a tie to san francisco and part of that is because it is a hub, part of that is because it is a large maintenance base. but, the los angeles and the 777 issues were related to maintenance issues and hydraulics and that is a curious coincidence. >> united airlines tells us in a statement each of these events is distinct and unrelated to one another. safety is our top priority and we will continue to do everything we can to keep our customers and employees safe." measles is once again showing up in the u.s. outbreaks of the virus was

pd 28 years ago and moved up the ranks, working in narcotics, high-tech crimes and community support programs. he has a bachelors degree in criminal justice management and is working on two masters degrees in business and public safety. a political opponent to mayor london breed wants to bring back a program that sent unhoused people out of san francisco back to people they know. the project is called homeward bound. it was started by former mayor gavin newsom back in 2006. city workers helped connect unhoused people with emily and france out of town. then they by the person gets to help get them home. the program was servicing some 800 people a year but under mayor breed, that number has dropped. county leaders will examine the plan to revive the program and expand it at a meeting next week. to the south of us, the demolition is underway for fort worth. the wharf was damaged by strong surf during last year's big storms. we spotted a lot of equipment

on the work that i. the city of capitola decided the buildings on the wharf for unsafe and ordered them demolished. that is the wharf restaurant and the boat shop. both businesses say they are hopeful they will rebuild or find a new home close by. >> that area continues to be battered by more and more rain, as we see with all the storms we have, which, here we have another storm to back. >> through tomorrow, we see the chance of rain eventually. we do have some sunshine on the way and also warmer temperatures. right now, that storm is moving through northern california it it is a cold front right. that will continue the rain chance as we head into tomorrow morning. let me get you more details in the microclimate forecast and how things will shape up for us tomorrow morning. really, the bulk of this will happen as a lot of us are sleeping in the overnight hours, right here at 2:00 in the morning, the east bay, peninsula, southbay, you have your best chance. i think through the morning

hayward. butler, afternoon sunshine and 58, half moon bay, over to redwood city, 61. san francisco, and with 58 for the marina and 60 in the mission and up toward the north bay, low 60s santa rosa back into napa. now, as we had beyond this, the thing i want to get out ahead of to make sure you are aware of right now is we are looking at the chance of some wind in the forecast. also much drier and warmer weather. the thing we will see happen on wednesday is high pressure builds and that brings dry air. we are normally okay with that. but, the problem we are getting into is low-pressure digging in over the southwest. whatever you get two weather systems, especially high pressure and low pressure building so close together, it is going to create a vacuum effect as the air flows from high pressure to low- pressure and that will bring the wind throughout the bay area. we really see the wind is starting to kick in as we head toward wednesday night. 15 to about 35. the trustee day will be on thursday, drive for easterly winds, 20 to 50. we stay with gusty winds

council voted not to put a resolution calling for a cease- fire in taza on a future agenda. the council heard public comments from both sides but ultimately, the council voted 5- 2 against putting that resolution for a vote. airbnb is updating its security camera policy. the san francisco-based company historically allowed the use of indoor cameras in common areas of a property if the house disclosed them on the listing page. airbnb is changing that. now, the host will not be allowed to have security cameras indoors at all. however, they can still use outdoor security cameras and noise decibel monitors on their property. they just have to tell guests about them before cooking. hosts ha until the
