christie smith's report, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, that is where we have mostly clear skies. that is the timeline on the eclipse. we get about 35% of the suns surface locked out there by the moon looking like a crescent shaped son there at the time, at 11:13 in the morning and by 12:15 that is partial solar eclipse's to an end. now we have good visibility here but for all the folks that are heading to texas and arkansas and missouri tomorrow, noticed the cloud cover that is the path of totality and they are going to be the only ones, which could make for some challenging viewing conditions there in the path of totality. closer to home, whether head lice includes 80s. finally reached the seven-day forecast. look at that, and a reversal of fortune, perhaps setting us up later this week for what those changes. i will have your seven- day forecast in a few minutes. >> thank you. as christie mentioned, also eclipse glasses, you will need them tomorrow. make sure they work. showing us how come all you have to do is head to

nbcbayarea.com and click the link in our trending bar. and then join us tomorrow morning for a special eclipse coverage, you can watch our cover tonight or you stream starting at 10:00 a.m. a busy night for police all across the bay area, several departments broke up a number of illegal sideshows. this is video from one near 42nd and international. you can see those cars spinning, fireworks, police broke it up around 2:30 this morning and 30 minutes later oakland police broke up another sideshow. but the crowd, after that one, headed toward san francisco, ended up on the bay bridge and this is what happened there. stop traffic on westbound i-80 for about 10 minutes. no word of any arrest or citations. the search is on for the driver who ran away from the deadly crash in contra costa county.

680 and concord, chp says the driver of a mazda with six people inside lost control, hit the median, the car flipped several times, several people inside that car were not wearing seatbelts, they were ejected from the vehicle. the driver ran away before emergency crews could get there. a nine-year-old girl died. rushed to the hospital, no word on how they are doing tonight. this weekend marks six months since the israel-hamas war began with the invasion of israel. one of the most instructive and deadly conflicts of the 21st century. people are recognizing the grim milestone with protest and vigils. jewish communities and allies hold the vigil for the 134 hostages, some of them americans, still believed to be held by hamas. they gathered on the overpass, calling for the immediate release of all hostages and bodies of israelis. please, the elderly, i am holding a picture of two of them that i personally know that have chronic health conditions, that are older.

and we are really concerned for their health. we want them all released and brought home. they did nothing wrong. on a saturday morning they were asleep in their bed when they were grabbed by young men with guns. >> the group says it has been holding a daily vigil on this overpass since early november. it was october 7th that hamas militants executed a surprise attack on israel, launching the war. militants killed 1200 people and captured 253 hostages, many of them women and children. it is not clear how many remain alive for israel quickly responded with force, bombing large areas of clearly still populated civilians in their efforts to destroy hamas and the vast network of tunnels. it is estimated more than 31,000 palestinians have died since the war began. the majority of the people living in gaza have been forced to flee to rafah, where food and water are scarce. today militaries israel announced it is drawing down ground troops in the southern gaza strip this is after an intense month-long operation. the u.s. and other western

nations have been urging israel not to invade rafah unless there are safeguards in place for protecting civilians among other demands. israel says the troops can recuperate, prepare for operation. it is not clear if those future operations include an invasion of rafah. signals the start of a smaller, more calculated strategy. the cease-fire deal does not appear likely anytime soon. you are not imagining things, you probably paid more the last time you filled up your car with gas. gas prices, on the rise again. national average for the price of regular, $3.67 a gallon. in california, much higher. how about $5.34 a gallon? lundberg survey report the prices will rise another dime or so in the very near future because more americans are getting back on the road and refiners are transitioning to less polluting summer blends.

it is no surprise, prices even higher in the bay area than anywhere else. in san jose, a gallon of regular is $5.44 a gallon. in oakland, $5.48. in san francisco, $5.59. all up $.30. the issue of renters right and concord are in the middle of a battle again. tenants rights protesters rally today about the idea of putting rent detection in front of voters in november. the council passed the much anticipated ordinance protecting tenant, stabilizing rent last month. it was set to take effect last week but the city would serve a referendum petition to the ordinance on the ballot instead. for those in the rental and real estate industry are now working together signatures. tenant rights supporters say they want the law to go into effect now. >> for renters to keep getting more rent increases on top of evictions. so we want to know what is going on. please let the citizens of concord, both tenants and landlords, all the citizens of

concord, which includes everybody, vote on the ordinance. that is all we ask and that is what the referendum is about. >> if enough verify the signatures are gathered, the city council will have a choice of repealing the ordinance or placing it on the ballot. this could help a lot, the first potential homeowners to make it in the bay, california down payment assistance program, or dream for all is accepting applications again. at least one must also be a first-generation homebuyer. the program offers a 20% purchase price of a home. a lot of money. and then when that owner eventually sells, they pay back the original loan, between 15 and 20% of the appreciation of the home's value. this year the participants will be chosen by a lottery drawing. loan vouchers are awarded next month. more terror in the skies. a flight has to turn back around after part of it engine cover ripped off during takeoff.

frightening moments for passengers on board a southwest airline flight, the protective cover over the engine came off during takeoff from denver this morning. briefly got stuck on the wing flap. you can see it blow away in that video there. reported by a passenger, the plane returned to the airport and landed safely. the airline says maintenance teams are inspecting the plane. passengers, the faa also launching an investigation into what happened. southwest is already in the safety spotlight on thursday. southwest plane reported an engine fire before takeoff. a san francisco tradition is expanding its horizons. the richmond district farmers market has been around for more than 40 years. today organizers held their first event in the marina bay park. celebrated with games, live music, arts and crafts, and, of course, fresh locally grown produce. >> you like to get to know you. so you can know grows the food, they can get to know who is

eating their food. >> all right, this is the second certified farmers market in the city. san francisco is elevating japan handpiece plaza before it closes for renovation. the cultural landmark over the last three weekends, it will officially close next month and construction is expected to start in june. crews will be upgrading the face, installing planters and adding new lighting. the project is expected to be complete by next summer. take a live look at san jose which just ranked among the top cities for quality of life. this is a national competition, folks. released its list of cities with the highest levels of resident satisfaction. several factors to make the rankings, including crime, healthcare, education, and average commute time. san jose came in fourth. as for the top three, anne arbor, michigan, number one followed by boulder, colorado and madison, wisconsin.

this is what we should see for highest. upper 60s, near 70s. santa rosa tomorrow, still san francisco, upper 60s in oakland and san jose, watch how these temperatures start to climb up now tuesday, mid-to-upper 70s inland, the immediate coast and likely for san francisco and inland areas got 70s, bayside through the tri-valley and the north bay. thursday, little bit of coastal cooling but another day of 70s, 80s inland as we set for the first half of the week, those warm temperatures because you can kind of see what is changing there at the bottom of the screen. the high pressure will start to weekend, we'll watch this weather system bringing in showers on friday and as it moves more towards the weekend,

there you see it, saturday, chance of some showers and sierra snow. keep in mind we have high pressures to the west, cold system dropping down the coast. typical this time of year, these storms sometimes favor dropping east of the sierra. sunday we are talking about next saturday, stay tuned if this backtracks farther inland. it will be cooler and breezy. we may not see quite much in the form of rain showers. stay tuned, farther inland sunday, though, the consensus right now looks to be clearing, warming the second half of next weekend. take a look at the forecast for san francisco. a couple of days we could be close to 70s. right now it looks like wednesday and thursday are the days to get out the ocean beach. from the coast to inland areas, 50s and 60s lately. just 80s. >> it feels great. >> maybe not as much, a change- up, again. since the beginning of the year. the best chance for some rain showers at the start of the

welcome back, i'm anthony flora. did you see it? what a game and what a year for women's college basketball. south carolina achieves perfection and redemption by denying caitlin clark a storybook ending in one of the greatest careers in ncaa history. the championship game for the second year in a row, the hawkeyes came out on fire. clark, check this out, near the logo, she had 18 points. that is a record, championship record in the first quarter. they opened up a double-digit lead, but south carolina, just too tough, they made an adjustment defensively. their bench outscored iowa 37- 0. they also dominated the paint. camilla cardoza had 50 points and 70 rebounds. south carolina beat iowa 86-75. usc vanishes this season unbeaten. >> yeah, i am sad we lost this
