11:12 pm
plans messed up outdoors we are talking about serious implications between the wind, rain and flooding. >> we have to track two different aspects of this atmospheric river. the heavy rain and intended flooding threat and mudslides. but the wind threat will be elevated with the system compared to what we had on wednesday. for now show activity making its way across the bay area and this will be seen for the next 48 hours as a hearing wednesday night finally moved out. this is what we will see through the first half of the day tomorrow and tomorrow afternoon. anything you have to get done outside despite the showers tomorrow is the day to do it. give the dog a walk around the block and wear them out tomorrow because the weather will not be conducive for that on sunday. tomorrow happens to be national golden retriever day. if you are apprehensive about the storm heading our way just look at buddy's face and that will bring the blood pressure down a little bit.
11:13 pm
we will see scattered showers tomorrow giving way to heavy rain as the sun goes down saturday evening and that will continue to search from south to north across the bay area for the rest of the evening all of saturday night and into the first half of the day on sunday. this forecast model takes the heaviest rain and pushes it off to the east. by midday sunday with off and on showers the rest of the day. the heaviest rain moves out around lunchtime sunday and we will see some moderate rain persisting to a greater degree than what this forecast model is stimulating. either way it will add up to a lot of rain in a short amount of time with heaviest rain falling tomorrow evening and tomorrow night into sunday. we are talking generally 2 inches of rain in the santa clara valley. i put those numbers in the bus with a range of possibilities. 2 inches is what we expect that the range is 1-3. if the system over chiefs it can get the entire amount. same with the east bay were talking about 1-3 inches of
11:14 pm
rain but more likely around 2 inches. san francisco expecting 2.5 inches of rain but the rain is even wider especially in the north bay where we expect 2.5 inches of rain how the system specifically develops again is to areas of low pressure coming together. that has a range of possibilities that can send a fire hose of moisture further north or further south. the range possibilities is santa rosa can expect 2 inches of rain but it could be as little as an inch or up to 4 inches of rain. again we are talking up to 3 inches of rain. you could be looking at a flash flooding already saturday night especially down into the peninsula and santa cruz mountains. a slight risk sounds misleading. it is an element of flash flooding is what the weather center is freezing and that will be across the entire bay area sunday. and a moderate risk higher category from moderate words point conception and los angeles. that threat will continue into
11:15 pm
monday and monday night. they will be bearing the brunt of the moisture of the system. wind energy will be a significant concern as well because the system will be rapidly intensifying off the coast and that squeezes the atmosphere over the bay area before the sun comes up on sunday as the heavy rain is falling we will have wind gusts in the 35-45 mph range with strong winds mid to late morning on sunday even at the level we will have the potential for 50+ mph wind gusts with higher elevation getting gusts up to 60 mph in the same threat will be right along the coast. this forecast model indicating wind gusts getting to overkill force approaching 50 mph around the bay. winds will die down a little bit sunday afternoon but the wind energy again in the atmosphere will remain sufficient at 35 to 45 mph gusts remain impossible throughout the afternoon. so be prepared for power outages and make sure all the devices are charged up before the system arrives. take a look at the seven day forecast and all the action
11:16 pm
here at the beginning of the 70 forecast. the heavy rain arrives late tomorrow around sunset into the evening and in the rain and wind stick around on sunday. it tapers off the showers monday and tuesday looking out one tray day wednesday before another system moves in with lighter rainfall amounts but again additional rain looks likely as we head towards the latter half of next week. all eyes are on the system and we will be here live over the weekend with more updates. >> i know you are working over the weekend and we appreciate that you keep everyone posted. thanks paul. the maximum super bowl tickets are so expensive even the superstar players can't afford it. the last-minute gesture to make sure one important family watches the game in style. >> i have looked at christian mccaffrey salary and he'll be okay. coming up in sports sanford was on the wrong side of a rare conference loss. plus the young bucks are giving a run for the warriors.
