about winning the super bowl, because he's won two of them. >> when i was in with the 49ers, we were awful, terrible two years, but now you're talking about the way the organization has been built back, the only thing that's missing is that super bowl ring that is coming on sunday. i feel it. you talk about coach shanahan doing his thing. i think christian mccaffery is player of the year. brock purdy is playing at an extremely high level. >> reporter: we saw the bling before you even walked in the door. tell us about that. >> i got a couple rings, one philly, one baltimore. they're normally in the safe, bring them out for special events like this. >> reporter: nfl honors night, go big or go home. >> bring them out. it's like a fraternity, seeing a bunch of

welcome back. i'm juliette goodrich. we are live in las vegas bringing you all the super bowl excitement and it is getting exciting by the second. here's a little bit of trivia for you. the 9ers have now been at levi's stadium for almost ten years and the deal to bring the team to santa clara was done at the great america amusement park on a ride. as len ramirez reports, before
6:14 pm
there was a groundbreaking, there was a ride in the sky. >> reporter: former santa clara vice mayor kevin moore says there might never have been a levi's stadium if not for that blue tower amusement ride that stands head and shoulders above california's great america. >> it's not a thrill ride, but that day it was. >> reporter: moore is talking about the day back in 2007 when santa clara hatched a plan to snag the 49ers. it was just after talks to build a new stadium in san francisco fell through when the team and city officials lured the nfl's roger goodell to look at santa clara, but the commissioner had only a sliver of time to spend on the ground and some santa clara people wanted to show him everything. >> in 45 minutes we're going to show him intel, great america, stanford, america university and i said you can't do it. you can't go to
6:15 pm
20 places in 45 minutes during rush hour and he said what place can we go? i said let's see if we can get in the amusement park. >> reporter: moore's plan was to take them on a one-stop shop to the theme park's star tower ride, a slowly rising and rotating observation deck that gently elevates riders 200 feet above the park and once on top you get 360-degree views of santa clara and silicon valley. >> my job was to convince them to go into the amusement park and that was crazy. why are we going to the amusement park? i said because you'll have the best view of the valley. i knew once we got them in there, mayor patty mahan would close the deal. >> reporter: mayor mahan who died of cancer in 2023 showed goodell the lay of the land, the tech companies who would buy luxury suites and the infrastructure past city leaders laid down to make it a viable stadium site, including light rail and wide sweeping boulevards. >> the 101 freeway, the 237 freeway here and by the time we
6:16 pm
were done pretty much a done deal. was he impressed, the commissioner? i think he was blown away, yeah. i looked at that point and go we're getting the 49ers down here in santa clara. patty just knocked it out of the park. >> reporter: voters approved a stadium measure in 2010. the stadium opened in 2014. two years later it hosted super bowl l. >> we worked on this so many years it's just a dream come true to see that stadium out there. >> reporter: moore, considered the godfather of the stadium effort, was once told by a former city manager that santa clara had a 1 in a billion chance of getting the 49ers, but after the meeting in the amusement park, moore said the odds at least improved to even money. >> fascinating. thank you, len. the super bowl is not just about football. it's also about the entertainment. today we heard from the performers, usher, of course, the halftime show headliner. he didn't give us any clues about what he is going to sing or if he's going
6:17 pm
to bring out any special guests, but he did promise an epic performance he describes as 30 years in the making. >> what i did is i was being mindful of my past, celebrating my present, which is here in las vegas, and thinking about where we're headed in the future. >> reporter: there's also post malone singing "america the beautiful" and "lift every voice and sing" and reba mcentire will sing the national anthem. >> it means i get to sing a very special song for all americans, people all around the world, who have really worked so hard for our freedom. >> reporter: of course, you have to be in the building to hear these legendary artists
6:18 pm
perform and tickets aren't cheap. kelsi is joining me now to talk about those ticket prices. actually you can still see the performance on channel 5, but you can't be there live. >> reporter: yeah. we were just talking about whether or not the experience might be a little better if you actually watch it on tv, a closer view. >> we were making ourselves feel better about not being there. i do like seeing the instant replays and i like just being at home sometimes watching the game. i'll be in vegas, my new home now. >> reporter: the good news is you won't be alone. i talked to dozens, if not hundreds, of fans this week and maybe a handful have tickets. most of them are watching at a hotel or somewhere here in vegas. i met one couple yesterday out here doing all sorts of super bowl events. the guy runs a kind of golf sports series where he brings out athletes to play different sports ahead of the big game, but he was telling me
6:19 pm
he has one ticket. his wife is in town with him and he doesn't know if he's going to be able to get her a ticket. so he may just go to the game himself. here's a little of what he told me. >> as of right now, there's one ticket. of course, if we can find an extra, she'll be my plus one always. right now it's just me. hopefully that changes because i'd like for me to be there and wipe my tears when we win. >> reporter: it's cute. he definitely said he'll try and get a ticket for his wife and he is rooting for the 9ers. that just shows you how hard it is to get a ticket or find multiple. >> once again, i think my phone is listening to what i'm thinking and saying because i got another flash that says $500 off a ticket on one of the stubhub kind of things. so i
6:20 pm
looked and it's still $7,400 is the price for a ticket. even with $500 off. >> reporter: it wouldn't surprise me if you if fination had finagled your way into the stadium sunday. we still have a couple showers in the bay area in the process of quieting down. these are the last showers for a while, tracking drier weather
