only world central kitchen but the planet. it's truly a tragedy. and the a's might be leaving town but a new team is looking for recruits, the talent at the tryouts today and when you can catch the players in action. we have some breaking news out of san francisco, to start this newscast, there is a fire at kansas street and 19th, the fire department is telling people to avoid that area. we will monitor the situation and bring you more as the information comes in. thank you for joining us, i'm andrea nakano, we are going to shift gears and move over to the earthquake in berkeley that happened earlier today, it struck just after 11:00 this morning, the epicenter was just outside berkeley at the time, u.s. geological survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 3.4, it has been

downgraded to a 3.3, usgs says more than 3400 people reportedly felt it, most were within a 13 mile radius of the epicenter. the quake was mostly felt in parts of the oakland hills and san francisco. this area is right along the hayward fault which runs through the east bay from the time to fremont, no reports of any damage. we had some people tell us they saw their windows rattle. yesterday, the east coast was hit by a rare earthquake, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake rattled northern new jersey, it was felt throughout the region from new york city to philadelphia. and recovery efforts continue in taiwan after a deadly 7.4 magnitude quake killed at least 13 people and injured more than 1000. it is the most powerful quake to hit the island in 25 years.

seven people were killed while trying to bring food to northern gaza on monday, max darrow spoke with a bay area woman who works with world central kitchen about the people who were killed. >> a san francisco woman volunteered for world central kitchen on numerous occasions overseas, she described damien as kind, a protector, a person determined to do good and so much more. >> he was an extraordinary human being. >> that is how chef lauren would like people to remember damien, she volunteered beside him on multiple runs for people in ukraine. that was before his mission to gaza, before he and six other aid workers from world central kitchen were killed in an air strike that israeli military officials have since said was a grave mistake. >> it is disbelief, it is

profound sadness, it is anger, all those emotions. and knowing somebody so personally, it just guts you. it doesn't matter what color you are or what religion you are or what political leaning you have, it is all about feeding people in need and that is it. >> she says aid workers know there are inherent risks with what they do, it is hard to explain what drives people to run into the fire rather than away from it, like damien. it is a feeling, a calling. >> it is just something inside of you that says you have to do it. >> israel's military said it misidentified an aid worker as a militant with a gun and mistakingly believed hamas militants were inside the world central kitchen vehicle. >> at the time, they were certain that they were targeting hamas. this tragic mistake could and should have

been prevented. >> since the air strike, israel's military has dismissed two officers, world central kitchen is calling for systemic change in israel's military and for an independent commission to investigate the killings point >> i absolutely think there needs to be an independent investigation and if they can get a hold of the footage from the drones, that will tell us a lot. >> as the world waits to see what happens next, she will continue to mourn the loss of a friend. >> his loss is a loss for not only world central kitchen but for the planet. it is truly a tragedy. >> one of seven heroes in her eyes. >> they were just doing good. >> at a time when it is needed most. >> president biden said he was heartbroken by the deadly attack, he had a call with the prime minister, benjamin netanyahu fuse days -- a few days after it happened. he

warned the u.s. may shift its support for the war. israel says it will be reopening more of the border crossings to let in aid to gaza. meanwhile, egyptian officials say cease-fire talks are expected to continue tomorrow, the u.s. has sent bill burns to join, officials will continue negotiations for the release of israeli hostages held by hamas. for months, hamas and israel have been trying to agree on terms for a hostage release in exchange for a cease-fire in gaza. hamas also wants israel to release palestinian prisoners and for more humanitarian aid to be brought into the region. back in the u.s., the house of representatives is set to vote next week on a symbolic resolution, it would support israel's right to self-defense and would oppose a cease-fire in gaza. since the resolution is symbolic, it would not change any current policy. face the nation with margaret brennan will have more on the

middle east as tomorrow marks six months into the israel hamas war. back in the bay area, the highway 101 police chase and crash led to a hazmat situation in petaluma. police say the driver took the exit at petaluma boulevard north, going over 100 miles per hour, hit the barrier and rolled over the ramp. it happened this morning before 8:00 and police decided to leave the car in the standing water where it landed. >> our concern is that the vehicle is still smoking a little bit and it is in the perfect spot right now, in water. we don't want to pull it away from the water. we had a discussion with the fire department and they said this was the perfect place for it. >> the electric car spewed a couple dozen batteries across the roadway, they were on fire and some exploded. caltrans is coming to clear the batteries and the debris, the driver suffered minor injuries.

chp is looking for two young boys who went missing in mountain view last night, chp says they were last seen on montecito avenue near stevenson elementary school. mountain view police say taylor took the two boys and a blue 2018 ford escape with the license plate from missouri. police would not tell us how taylor is related to the boys. daniel is nine and david is four years old. a business in oakland hosting an event today as a show of resilience in the face of crime. a week ago we told you about fashion designer, taylor j, she had her storefront ransacked just hours before a scheduled rally at city hall for business owners demanding safe streets. she lost about $20,000 and that burglary and today, they hosted

oakland a's fans are hurting after this week's announcement that the team will be moving to sacramento after this season. but an independent minor league team will now take the field, as john ramose reports, players attended the open trial. >> reporter: it has been said that baseball is a game designed to break your heart, and fans know a lot about that these days, but today, this tryout was evidence that it takes more than just heartache to kill a dream. the a's may be leaving, but the dream of baseball was very much alive,

the oakland ballers tryout drew players who were not afraid to take a chance. >> when it became clear that they were moving, like most fans, i was devastated. i felt like baseball needed to stay in oakland, and it should be up to the people of oakland whether baseball stays and continues. so we started the ballers to say no matter what, there's going to be a team here. >> some showed more talent and experience but the manager says some of these guys may have been drafted by mlb teams in years past. >> it used to be 50 rounds in the draft, now there's 20 rounds, now they have no place to play, they come to our league to play, now they are showing off their skills to all

30 teams. and they might get inspiration from one of the assistant coaches, former giants star, j.t. snow, he said he was lured back to hear the crack of the bat and the pop of the glove. >> you never know, there has been a lot of guys coming through making their dreams to get into the big leagues, obviously not everybody is going to get signed, but you can always find that diamond in the rough. >> most of these guys have been playing since they were little kids, but robert is now 35, he plays in the adult league and realizes he is probably too old to be selected, but it is not easy to give up on the game. >> i'm just here to have fun, if there is a chance to make it, i would love to do it. if anything else, i cannot here on a saturday to play baseball. >> up in the stands, he remembers his days playing triple a baseball, and he thinks every player is holding onto some hope that their dream

today, but it was a beautiful day. >> even though i knew i never had a chance of making the team, it would have been fun to go and to watch. for the day anyway. so, we are done with the rain from that system that came through yesterday but there is another one, it is very weak. let me show you that real fast. because it is such a small and insignificant element of this, the real headline in this forecast is the 80 degree days are coming back by next week. here is what we look like from mount diablo, just gorgeous, you've got the beautiful green hills, down at the feet of mount diablo, just fantastic. there's no rain on the doppler right now. a totally separate system, watch this line of very weak unorganized showers and this is going to happen in the predawn hours tomorrow and most of it doesn't even make it onshore but you might get a stray

shower at about 4:00 in the morning, probably not enough to measure. watch the last of it as it disappears as we get into the later morning hours, and there could be a few more that develop over the mountains. very weak and insignificant. if we go to the big picture, that is the last one, watch what happens, all of the storms are standing well to the north. and the storm track is reoriented and there's nothing coming our way. we are going to do this on the long range, we just let this play forward to tuesday, april 16th, it will not be raining between now and then. okay, cold mornings, tomorrow going to be a little less cold, still in the upper 30s in the north bay valleys tomorrow, a lot of mid-40s everywhere else. no more frost advisory tomorrow, we are past the coldest of the morning lows, that was today and yesterday.

and when you look at the daytime highs for sunday, i'm showing these to you not because they are any different from today but because i want you to see the comparison between sunday and what it is going to be like on thursday. the map takes on a color scheme, there's a lot more numbers that start with eight, a lot of low 80s. some of these might be conservative, santa rosa, i think you will make it into the low 80s by then. and looking ahead to monday, watch the futurecast, that shows how things will play out for monday morning, after we say goodbye to that chance of no rain monday, we are checking out monday morning and there are no clouds. the partial eclipse is happening at 11:13 in the morning and we have clear skies. good news. we will get about 34% coverage and of course that is the only way you are going to see that, unless you have incredibly dark and sanctioned glasses that are going to be put -- able to protect your eyes. look at the

will be interesting. baseball, austin adams and the a's enjoying their time at a big-league park in detroit. he belted his second homer of the series, oakland jumped out to the lead, 20 for paul blackburn, the that is 13 straight for not allowing a run, oakland has won two games this season, both started by blackburn. the a's beat the tigers. the giants won their home opener on friday on walk-off fashion, they hope to keep that momentum going tonight against the padres. jordan hicks signed to the giants in the off-season because they were willing to give him an opportunity to start, so far so good. he has allowed one earned run in 12 innings including seven yesterday, the longest start of his career and the former cardinal enjoyed every part of his first home start at oracle park. >> you can feel the energy coming out of you in a way, it was awesome with the flyover, and just no malfunctions with

18. caitlin clark and iowa will play for the national title tomorrow, against south carolina. are some people who think caitlin clark needs to win a championship in order to be considered the greatest player of all time. and the hall of fame player in her day is certainly qualified to weigh in. >> you've got to win a championship, so that is me personally, like i had a great career, but it is always, did you win a championship? if caitlin clark wins a champion chart the macc championship, she is pretty good, i mean she is pretty good regardless but, you know, winning the championship would seal the deal. i hope to the dear lord

the san jose library is giving out free solar glasses this weekend ahead of the eclipse, they are also planning eclipse events for kids tomorrow and monday, there's glasses at the 25 locations.
