corridor. and plus the only emergency room along the san mateo county coast closes for storm related repairs. bay area lawmaker demanding answers now. devastation continues in gaza as the war between israel and hamas reaches the half a year mark. biden's demand for policy changes. thank you for joining us, i'm kenny choi. today marks six months since the start of the war. civilian deaths continue to climb and hostages will be held. but troops say they are now reducing their presence in parts of gaza. this comes just days after biden told israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu that the humanitarian situation in gaza is, "unacceptable. cristian benavides has the update. >> reporter: six months after the deadly october 7 attack that sparked the war. growing frustration in israel. those whose loved ones are being held by hamas, say the israeli government needs to do more. >> this is the time to bring

them back. all of them, as soon as possible. >> reporter: she lost her two daughters who were born in los angeles in the october 7 attack. >> i will be looking for a way to keep on going without him. it is real difficult. it is really difficult. >> reporter: prime minister benjamin netanyahu says israel is a step away from victory. sunday morning, israeli troops started to reduce their presence in southern gaza. israeli spokesman told cbs news, it is an evolution of the war effort and not a partial withdrawal. >> the indications that we have been getting from them this morning that it is really largely rest and refit for troops that have been on the ground. >> reporter: several days ago president joe biden held an intense call with netanyahu following fatal air strikes on seven aid workers from the world central kitchen. >> the president was clear with the prime minister if there are not changes. if things don't get better. then we'll need to make changes of our own. >> reporter: dozens of democratic congress members

including nancy pelosi have signed a letter, urging the biden administration to reconsider sending billions of dollars in weapons to israel. and cease-fire negotiations are expected to resume with cia director bill burns attending. gaza's ministry of health says israel has killed more than 33,000 palestinians. here in the bay area, people in palo alto held a vigil for the children of gaza and in lafayette. today another community vigil was held for the remaining hostages along the overpass earlier today. well the a's announcement to leave oakland after this season not only hurts sports fans, but it's another major economic blow for the business corridor. some east oakland residents tell da lin that the a's departure in recent business closures are setting them back decades. >> reporter: retired city officials tell me it took decades to convince companies to invest in east oakland and hegenberger corridor. many

people are angry that years of hard work vanished in a short amount of time as businesses leave the city. the a's will soon join a growing list of businesses that have left the road area. the team admits that the move will result in job losses. >> we don't want to necessarily call it an economic desert, but it's starting to look that way. >> reporter: long-time resident says it is more economic pain for some of his neighbors who will work as concession workers at the coliseum. >> it is an absolute frustration and even goes through at times a level of anger. >> reporter: the business corridor has seen a decline in recent years that started with the departure of wal-mart in 2016. but the pace of closure sped up in the last 12 months. subway and in-n-out, a denny's, and black bear diner. two restaurants have closed to do drive through only because of car break-ins.

>> crime and the reputation. >> you look at it today, they are leaving here like the city is on fire. >> reporter: axful gospel church is located near the coliseum. bishop bob says it took decades to bring vitality to the hegenberger corridor. while the a's are leaving over a different reason, the result is the same. fewer tax dollars and fewer jobs for people in east oakland. >> just helping crime to escalate even more. because without the jobs, without making the money, what are you going to do? how are you going to live? so crime seems to be the only thing that's working in the city of oakland. >> reporter: many residents like charles says the city needs to do better or more businesses will continue to leave. >> i don't think that it is over. i just think you have to have some optimism and visionaries who would like to come back to make oakland back tough and strong like it was before. >> reporter: the a's are scheduled to play their last regular season home game on september 26. a solo car crash in concord killed a 9-year-old child early

this morning. police are still looking for the driver who fled the scene after the crash. it happened around 5:00 this morning. police say that the driver veered off interstate 680 flip over several times. witnesses telling authorities that the driver got out and ran away. a 9-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. four other passengers were taken to the hospital with major injuries. highway 1 is back open after caltrans demolished an overpass last night. it took down the bridge as part of the plant to eventually widen the freeway. caltrans says they will replace the 85-year-old bridge next year. tonight people who live along the coast are without an emergency room where they live and that will likely be the case until the end of the year. they closed their e.r. for repairs related to storm damages at the beginning of the month. but as max darrow reports, the district's

long-time congresswoman says this isn't sustainable and it is now demanding more detailed answers. >> reporter: it may be small, but they are home to the only emergency room along the san mateo county coast. and the decision to close it temporarily is drawing heavy scrutiny from elected officials who represent the residents including congresswoman anna eshoo. >> you simply cannot leave people without any emergency center on the coast side. >> reporter: the officer says that the closure of seton medical center coast side is only temporary and necessary to take extensive building repairs because of severe storm damages and major repairs. the temporary closure could last up to nine months. they're encouraging patients to seek emergency care and hospital services at seton's daly city campus. >> depending on where you live on the coast side, that could

minimally take 45 minutes to get there. and a life or death situation, that's simply not acceptable. >> reporter: eshoo is demanding more transparency and specifics. she wrote this letter to the director of the california department of public health. >> i want to know under what circumstances they made this decision. how could it be that all of these people on the coast side are left without any emergency services whatsoever? are they rebuilding that building? what are they doing? they need to be transparent, fully transparent. >> reporter: seton's associate coo says the medical center considered keeping the standby during repairs and renovations. however, this was not feasible because of the extent and nature of the damages to the conditions of the facility and that requires ancillary services would not be available during construction. >> a lot of people need to be

the wait is almost done where we are one day away from the total solar eclipse. millions of people will be looking up as the moon casts a shadow across the middle of the country tomorrow. while we won't be seeing totality in the bay area, you still have a chance of seeing a partial solar eclipse. it's going to be similar to the one we saw back in 2017. the partial eclipse will start around 10:14 in the morning. it will reach maximum partial eclipse at 11:13 a.m. the eclipse is expected to last for about two hours. now around the bay area, there will be plenty of viewing parties for the cosmic event. oakland's space and science center is holding a watch party. they're inviting folks to come watch and take part in special science demonstrations. sky gazers will also get eclipse safe glasses and have a chance to look at

get to 11:13 tomorrow, that's when the moon will be covering as much of the sun that it is going to cover tomorrow and it is only going to be 34%. for the most part it is not an incredibly noticeable or all-inspiring spectacle to be quite honest. that you don't notice a whole lot unless you're looking at it with those protective glasses or eye wear. now let me show you why this is so much of a bigger deal. if you could get in that limited path of totality. because if the moon totally obscures the sun, now you will get a completely different show. you could see the atmosphere of the sun, the corona. sometimes you could see the solar flares coming off of it. there is no way you could ever see that from earth unless the moon is obscuring it or you're using a specialized telescope. you can see stars in the middle of the day. you can pick out the constellation. and everything is cold. that is the experience that really makes this noteworthy and that it is

only about a 100-mile wide pathway that will go through the midsection of the country. to look at the latest forecast imagery on that. some of those folks will have an obscured view with some weather moving across the midsection of the country. texas might have some problems tomorrow. the upper midwest, they will probably get some of the clearer skies. it is going to be touch and go. clouds will show up. they will break. and it will be right down to the wire. all right, as far as the rest of our weather here it goes at home. now look what's going on today. a few isolated showers. we're going to pop up over the north bay and that's about it. and they are not really going to amount to a whole lot. we'll be out of the rain business until we would get to friday. there is another weak little weather system coming back on friday. it doesn't have much rain, but there is some very light rain in the forecast. morning lows going down to the upper 40s. to show you where we will be for

daytime highs. the actual daytime highs for tomorrow. these numbers don't stand out until we do the comparison with where we have been. you're going 72 degrees tomorrow. you'll go to 72 in livermore and 68 in redwood city. a nice warm up. and that is what will make this. tomorrow is the day when we notice things have changed because the temperature is going to take a jump. and we're going to do that tour again. i'll say good-bye to the actual numbers and what that difference will be where they are 10 degrees warmer that you'll take a look at the whole map. pick out your part of the bay here. and you notice the increase from one day to the next, but it's what's coming on thursday and friday that you're going to notice a little bit more. let's say good-bye to the seven-day forecast. when you take a look at the highs that will start showing up by thursday where we are back into the low 80s. wednesday and thursday. it won't last long because by the time we do the nice warm up

they beat them 7-1 where they will continue to texas. and to golf, the final round of the texas open. former cal bear, max holma hits one off the tee and tried to avoid making contact with that ball and i'm sure he'll give him credit. denny mccarthy birdied the final seven holes to force a playoff, but the heater ended on the 73rd hole when mccarthy put his second shot into the water. he rolled in that winning putt. the 22-year-old led wire to wire, and he earned the final spot in the masters. i've got to tell you if i'm winning the final spot, i'm celebrating harder than that, jumping in the water. >> yeah, why not? he's heading to augusta as you need to celebrate more, but hey, congratulations to him. >> matt, thank you. >> congratulates to him.
