outside and get a suntan type day? >> i would say hold on until wednesday and thursday when we hit the 80s. right now, 60s and 50s in areas like the half moon bay. i want to show you our temperatures, upper 60s near san jose, 60s in the east bay, cold, cloudy and mild. near san francisco, near the low 60s and upper 60s into wine country. i mentioned a big warm-up around the corner. partly cloudy throughout most of the week, a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon, tomorrow, clearer conditions. and here is the best news, it is dry over the next seven days. high pressure is moving in, daytime highs will be warming up into the 70s by tomorrow and 80s for

wednesday and thursday. some 60s still along the coastline. and as i mentioned, dry conditions throughout the week. this has been a very active rainfall season for the state of california. we are over 100% of average with the exception of inland areas, but still, 98% and we will have more on the warm-up and just a bit. let's take a live look at the bay bridge, a good perspective of how things are getting a little busy. you can see traffic starting to back up a little bit with the media ring lights officially on. a little hotspot on the upper deck as you get closer to the city. westbound 80, also starting to get busy. a trouble spot through richmond, with traffic backing up a little bit through there. as long as

south bound 680 into fremont. let's talk international headlines. this morning the nation of israel weighing its next move after iran send dozens of drones and missiles into the area. you can hear the sirens. the president held an emergency meeting with the g7 nation on sunday, his goal is to try to head off a wider conflict in the region. in a phone call with benjamin netanyahu, he warned that the u.s. will not participate in any retaliatory strike against iran. they are calling for a cease-fire . >> i think we very much all want peace in the middle east. if everyone lays down their weapons and sits down to talk there may be some peace. >> no one wants anything to escalate further. security was stepped up

violent rhetoric. what happens is that the consequences are felt by everyday citizens. >> it is a region where everyday residents have been dealing with conflict for decades. the iranian american community feels that nothing will change until there is truth democracy . >> the real problem is that the root cause of this unrest in the middle east is the iranian regime which has been what they called the export of revolution which is really the export of terrorism. >> iranian americans say that they need the help of the u.s. with action through diplomacy, not weapons. >> the u.s. needs to side with the people of iran and recognize that they have to confront the irgc on their own and it is up with political

tools that they have that support. >> and if it is to be achieved, it is vital for the u.s. to set an example and be consistent with the way it observes international and humanitarian law . >> if you keep supplying arms to a country like israel without holding them accountable for the way it is impacting civilians of gaza, you can't expect people to understand that you are interested in peace. >> for people living in the region and those with relatives they are, they can only hope that peace will prevail instead of the use of force. president joe biden has found support for israel but a new poll shows that only 33% of americans approve of his policies in israel and 60%

believe that they could be doing more to bring home hostages still held by hamas. and going into the election season we are also getting a sense of political wins and the approval rating of the president is 40%, slightly higher with those between 18 and 29. lots to talk about in the over coming week. time for a look at some other top stories. silicon valley's historic district 16 congressional race is heading for a recount starting today. looking live at the santa clarita county registrar's office, they will start recounting votes in district 16 for eight hours each day. the recount will be by machine and it will take about five days to complete the rescanning of the ballots and it will cost about $84,000. the county received the money on friday to start a

time-consuming process that could break this historic type. supervisor joe samiti and and edmund loeb both finished in second with the exact same number of votes. and live look at the state capital where buffy wakes is meeting a new push for affordable housing. calling for bond measure a.b. 1647 to be placed on the november ballot. it seeks $10 million to invest in affordable housing projects currently lacking funding to move forward. jury selection gets underway in former president trump's is hush money trial. prosecutors and defense attorneys will begin jury selection. he faces 34 counts for allegedly falsifying business records in an effort to cover up hush money payments to stormy daniels before the 2016 election. we will have a live report outside

police are on the hunt for whoever shot two women to death on riverside drive on saturday night just after 8:00. police found the women lying outside of the clubhouse. neighbor working on his cart nearby said he first heard people arguing and then a number of loud pops. we spoke to people in the community that are worried about this growing trend. >> when i was a kid you never had to worry about none of this . >> napa is a beautiful place to raise a family. but now the guns and drugs are everywhere. they are in every city. >> i don't know why, but something has changed here in

return to the bay area, ringing in some rain and active weather. but that area of low pressure is moving away and high pressure will build in , leaving us with temperatures a little above average. today, staying in the 60s in areas like san jose, san francisco, all the way to wine country. but into this week the inland areas will hit the 80s, and it will be a really mild week. it has been active and rainy and cool, so we are finally starting to feel more springlike weather. wind is pretty light out of the north today. pretty much most areas in the bay area, sitting at 5 to 10 miles per hour for wind gusts. any outdoor activities, it will be a great one. we are sitting hand-in-hand today, in

the 60s from san francisco to concord. a little bit of a temperature spread when it comes to those areas, a little warmer in the east bay and a lot cooler in half moon bay. already waking up to cloudy skies, and we will continue to see more this afternoon. 70s tomorrow, 80s into wednesday and thursday. and then we average out with the sunshine into this weekend, dry skies will continue all throughout inland areas and throughout the bay into next week. a little cooler along the bay shoreline, not hitting the 80s, but getting close. oakland will be hitting the upper 70s by wednesday. partly cloudy skies will be in the forecast into this weekend. won't necessarily get that inland sunshine but at least it will be dry. let's talk about the roadways as you get ready to head out the door. our busiest spot is the drive across the bay bridge. metering lights are

on and traffic is starting to back up just a little bit. it is building as folks make that ride into the east bay. the freeway approach, is that slowest, with traffic starting to back up from richmond. and also south bound 680, into the fremont area, there is a crash there that is blocking lanes. our other headline this morning is the ride on the altamont pass. westbound commuters out of the tracy, it is low getting onto 580. so busy there and from antioch over toward hercules. and brake lights from pittsburgh. it is a northern california rematch. who was going home? the warriors won't have to travel far to play the

it is a game time. as we take a live look at chase center, the warriors wrapped up the regular season at home and get ready for a rematch. they finished the season at 46 and 36 after beating the jazz at home yesterday. steph curry and draymond green didn't play so they could rest, so what does all of this mean? they finish as the 10 seed in the western conference and will play a nine seed kings tomorrow night . it is a win or go home for these northern california rivals. tipoff is at 7:00 tomorrow night and the winner will travel to the loser of the lakers and pelicans came to see who makes it to the playoff as the eighth seed. >> it is that ncaa tournament. you've got to win the first

two and get to that first round. we have a shot. we are excited. >> their fans want to light the beam and see us lose and beat the crap out of us and we want to beat the crap out of them. a lot of familiarity amongst the two organizations even beyond us playing in the many games we played against each other over the past couple of years. for us it is another game we have to win. >> as mentioned, tomorrow is just another day up the road for the second straight season, one year after they beat the kings in seven games of the first round of the playoffs last year. so the warriors path to the playoffs will be on the road, but do they have enough in them to make a run? >> i think they are showing that right now. i didn't think we would get to this point . there was a time in the season when they were not doing so well and they have just turned

it on and they are full speed ahead. they are on a good streak. i feel like now is the time , and they know how to compete in these games. and i think they like this rivalry they've got going. >> when you look at this norcal rivalry, it could be anyone's game, but you mentioned the streak they are on, they have won 10 out of the last 12. the kings have lost the last five out of seven. this team, we have followed them over the years and this year was a little different than most. but don't count this team out, because when they have their back against the wall, they show up. and you never really know who will show up. and the big men are showing up . >> and that is what we need.

from cbs news bay area, this is the morning edition. right now, jury selection day in the criminal trial for former president donald trump. trump will be in that new york court room every day as he paces 34 counts of falsified business records in the case of hush money payments to an adult film star in the run-up to the 2016 election. naomi ruchim is live outside the courthouse. this is unprecedented with the former president facing criminal charges. >> reporter: that is right. this has never happened, it is new for everyone. and so security here is quite tight and folks are gathering, some supporters and some opponents. and it has been peaceful. there has been some yelling, nothing significant. any minute jury selection will begin. the

former president has arrived and they've got about a 500 potential jurors. this will be a very tough call to select jurors that are willing to put their bias aside. >> when i walk into that courtroom i know i will have the love of a 200 million americans behind me. >> donald trump becomes the first former u.s. president to face a trial in a criminal case in manhattan. trump faces 34 felony accounts -- counts of falsifying business records including a claim that he covered up $130,000 in hush money payments to stormy daniels through his former fixer, michael cohen to hide an alleged previous relationship with daniels before the 2016 election. trump denies the encounters

and has pleaded not guilty to the charges, the presiding judge has placed a gag order on trump after he has made public comments bashing the judge, prosecutors and cohen. >> i am fully gagged, not allowed to talk. >> first up today is jury selection and it could take weeks to move through the hundreds of potential jurors down to just 12. >> there is no one that will enter the courthouse who doesn't have an opinion about donald trump . >> that is why some legal experts say that his lawyers are likely to file a motion to try to move the trial to another city. and the former president did just walk into the courtroom. i want to read you some of what he said, he said this is an assault on america, nothing like this has

spots will be san jose, 67 along the foothills. a beautiful afternoon to get out there, light wind and temperatures pretty much below average. 60s all the way into the north bay. and over the next seven days high pressure will start moving into the bay, warming from the 60s to the 80s by wednesday. it is almost kind of sad dry skies for us as we head into this forecast. and with heavy rain storms from the north, all above average from santa rosa down to the santa clara valley. 98% of average from the east bay and

we will continue to keep a close eye on those numbers. for now, taking a look at the next seven days, this is exciting, watch the seven-day models into the week's forecast. partly cloudy skies, turning into sunshine into this weekend. getting rid of those clouds, seeing 70s around the corner for us, so something to look forward to. no more rainy weekend ahead of us. just a sunshine and beautiful temperatures. let's take a look at the roadways as you work your way along 880. this is right around the coliseum, traffic is quiet. the bay bridge, definitely getting busy. 880, both directions, seeing some delays and brake lights, north and southbound through oakland. we will check in with

chp to see if there is an accident. 880, just south of 980. definitely slow in both directions. typical traffic on westbound 580 and getting busy westbound 80 as well as highway 4. this just in, the fbi has opened a criminal investigation on the container ship that took down the baltimore francis scott key bridge last month. a criminal investigation because they are looking into circumstances leading to the collision and whether federal laws were followed. agents are aboard that cargo ship now, going through it at this very hour. san francisco jails are now on lockdown following a series of attacks on sheriff's deputies and other staff members. the union says that the situation is so severe that officials should call in the national guard. the sheriff's

office calls that idea premature even though some of the injuries from these incidents are serious. various programs and services are on hold. this covers two jails in san francisco which hold more than 1100 people . a scene of sideshow chaos. over the weekend in oakland, what you are looking at behind me is her early sunday morning. people say what is different this time is that it ended with a big response from police. >> reporter: from west oakland to east oakland, sideshow participants took over at least six major intersections early sunday morning. police say people spun donuts, fired shots into the air and even sent a couple of cars on fire. some participants mocked parents with a sign that reads, drive

like your kids live here. but the real fireworks happened at the intersection of high street in foothill boulevard at around 4:30 a.m. as drivers were burning rubber while laughing at the cops as dozens of officers were coordinating and blocking off escape routes. it all unfolded in front of neighbor debbie wilson tells. >> i applaud them. they need to arrest them and keep them in there. >> the 65-year-old says this i chose heard her health. she recently had a stroke. >> i've been having strokes and seizures. this kind of chaos, i don't need it around me. it terrorizes me and it scares me. >> neighbors say it is dangerous for everyone. >> they crash really close to our house. the neighbors house, they crashed into the gate and put a big dent in it. >> reporter: as lee started ticketing participants and spectators, some drivers found a narrow escape and police

quickly blocked that route. one person drove a white infinity into two police cars to it out of the area. he was not done, he returned to challenge the officers. one officer appeared to fire some nonlethal projectile to scare the driver away. other participants tried to leave but did not get very far. officers arrested several drivers and cited many spectators. >> make them pay. we are paying for it, we are suffering. >> what impressed me is that they not only came, but they cited those that were on the site shows. >> saying that they typically just disperse the crowds and let them go but neighbors asked, why can't the cops do this every time? >> the response i get is that

we don't have enough officers and we don't have enough money to pay for the officers overtime. >> police say it can get very dangerous, especially when they are outnumbered. participants said that two cars were set on fire. and as for debbie, she says, shut them down for her health and the health of the city. >> they want to shoot and fight somebody and drive crazy, give them an ultimatum. >> on the bay area beat, freeman family is without a home this morning. you can see some of the damage after an apartment fire yesterday. neighbors helped by the flames with extinguishers until firefighters arrived. the family was not home at the time and no one was hurt. in san jose a fire broke out inside a garage at a home on

williamsburg avenue. the crews are shown here working to put out the fire. it did not cause damage to the residential unit. four people had to be rescued out of the waters on the coast of ocean beach after their boat capsized. the four were taken to hospital for evaluations yesterday and are reported to be stable. the coast guard is still investigating what caused the boat to flip. are you planning on asking uncle sam for extra time? it is tax day. what last-minute filers should keep in mind. here is a live look outside as we head to break.

we haven't heard back. tax day is here and today is the deadline for most of you . if you live in federally declared disaster areas you will get more time and the irs is extending the deadline to those affected by the october 7 terrorist attacks in israel. if you owe and filter filed by the due date the irs will issue a 5% penalty for each month you are late . if you file an extension you will have until october 15th to file. you can still send your return to the irs electronically or by mail. samsung has knocked apple out of the top spot for smart phone makers for now. that is according to research firm that shows that smart phone shipments rose nearly 8% in 2024 with samsung taking over 20% of that share. apple shipments dropped 10%. time for a look at what is

sf weed week is underway in san francisco. despite the hippie hill event being canceled this year, dignitaries will work this week's beginning in the mission district with events happening throughout the community. celebrating nepal day, it was a parade on market street. members of the community marched from city hall right down market street to the embarcadero. it is the second year of the event and it works the new year in the high altitude himalayan country. this makes me smile. the sound of hundreds of kids chanting in the school of rock at the montgomery theater as they are there to see a special student only

performance. for some of these kids it was their first time ever seeing a show and afterwards they got to meet and greet with the cast. it runs through the 21st in san jose. make sure to get out there and check it out. what an amazing experience. i showed a story a couple of weeks ago about my son being in the show. to have all those little ones in the audience cheering them on, it took me back. >> i'm impressed by the turnout. it is so nice that they offered it to free for those who haven't seen the show before. and they were asking for autographs. >> clean the room, do all the things you're supposed to do. >> oh, i have a list. but just to see the courage and

look at this, just getting word from chp, there was a crash not too far from here and there are about 15 protesters locking lanes of traffic. we kind of moved that camera around. a little closer to 23rd and traffic is at a standstill. this will cause a big mess for the morning commute, especially as we get closer to that 7:00 hour where the traffic really starts to get busy for folks heading to work and school. and on a monday, what a tough ride for a lot of people. so 880 in oakland near 23rd. i will assume in so you can get a perspective. this is north and south, both directions of 880. so speeds are very slow as you approach the area with most of it concentrated onto the northbound side. south bound is taking a big hit as well.

welcome back. let's get right to some breaking traffic news. along 880, through oakland, you won't want to use 880, use 580 instead. here is a live look at 23rd in oakland. northbound traffic backed up due to protesters. no word as to when lanes will open up. in the meantime, it is a big mess headed northbound out of hayward. backup is substantial just beyond the coliseum. south bound, lanes are open, most of the closures seem to be concentrated on the northbound side. but south bound is taking a hit also with all those brake lights. not too far from there there was a crash in and around that area locking at least one lane. again, you can see 580
