weekend's unprecedented drone and missile attack. good morning, and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. israel has been warning it would retaliate, and today cbs news has confirmed it did less than one week after iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at the jewish state. tehran is downplaying the attack which happened in the city of isfahan, about 260 miles south of the capital of tehran. all sides are being tightlipped, and details are very preliminary. jarred hill is here to help us sort things out. >> still early with this, but here is what we know right now -- two u.s. officials have confirmed here that israel's missile did hit iran overnight. a senior israeli official told "the washington post" that the strike was intended to signal to iran that israel can attack its territory. state media posted this video of iran's air defense shooting down what they called mini drones near isfahan.
4:32 am
as far as damage goes, "the new york times" is reporting iranian officials said the strike hit an airbase near the city of isfahan, that is home to some of iran's nuclear facilities. but the international atomic energy agency says the country's nuclear program was not damaged. as you mentioned, iran is really working to downplay this israeli strike, at least publicly. there's also this video of a traffic circle with tv presenters there calling it a normal friday. some mideast experts are making conjecture that this is part of a broader strategy. take a listen. >> that seems to indicate that iran is seeking to step down off the ledge, minimize the impact of the attack, and perhaps walk back down the escalation ladder from here. >> all right. what's not clear is whether israel will act any further or if this apparent signal was enough. anne-marie? >> yeah. let's hope that both sides want to sort of just keep things simmered down. this tit-for-tat between israel

"cbs mornings" will have much more on the strike on iran and reaction from the white house.
