how a bay area community is stepping up to combat racist attacks. we begin with campus clashes as they continue here in the bay area and across the country. we start another week, singing camp mintz of tents and protest signs. now this is a scene at stanford made while up north protesters setting up barricades around cow polly. humble protesters rally for an end to the war in gaza. they give a glimpse of life behind the barricades. >nicole>taking a live look at sonoma state protestors have pitched dozens of tents here at person lawn, also calling for an end to the violence in gaza. at 1st, some students set up their encampment on friday and then additional demonstrators joined in over the weekend. take a listen to what 1 of the students said about their experience protesting.

catastrophe in the history of the palestinian people with famine gripping gaza, blinken told leaders in the region the most effective way to alleviate the humanitarian crisis is to achieve a ceasefire. israel says it's already letting more aid in but with the clock ticking on a ceasefire, there's concern getting hostages out of the hands of hamas could be an even tougher battle. >nicole>now for a look across the bay on this monday morning and happy monday. it's a new work week for all of you. >>throughout the bay area today we're expecting 60s and 70s, anywhere from san francisco over and oakland with some upper 70s all the way off into concord. now it's a mild way to kick off the week and less. you live along the coastline bodega bay stretching down in half moon bay, for example, respecting 50s today was in breezy conditions lasting into the afternoon and evening hours tonight, wind speeds there any up to around 40 mph. but if you live in our inland areas, you won't even notice style.

lighter winds are expected throughout our inland areas today 70s down into the santa bear valley as we wrap up the afternoon hours and really continue to warm those 70s up into 80s as we head into mid portions of this week as daytime highs continue to rise, thanks to high pressure moving its way inland, but once we head into our weekend forecast notice how those 80s quickly dropped back down to low 70s and that's just the inland areas. if you live along the coast or along the bay, you'll notice it even more. we actually hit the low 60s heading into our weekend forecast with a slight chance of showers by saturday as a cold front moves its way in, so enjoy these sunny days while we have it. >nicole>time for a look at this mornings. top stories. a major road in the north bay is back open this morning all weekend long, eastbound highway, 37 was shut down between ballet ho and sears point for pavement repairs this past weekend was caltrans last shutdown for lanes in the eastbound direction. it's been 4 years since any cars were allowed on the jfk promenade at golden gate park. well, celebration took place at peacock meadow yesterday. the mile long

stretch was closed to cars in 2020, then open up to pedestrians during the pandemic, then in 2020 to san francisco and voted to keep the road permanently closed. meanwhile, california's high speed rail project between san francisco and los angeles is indeed of another $100 0 to reach completion. it was originally said to cost about 40 billion, the project's ceo released an updated business draft last month, saying just the trains segment between merced and bakersfield could cost up to $35 0 to finish. the ceo is asking for federal funds to help fill the funding gap. let's go live now to the state capitol, where a rally is set by the economic and criminal justice reform. this comes after a victory of the golden state. fast food workers advocates are calling on lawmakers to extend the $20 minimum wage statewide so that no worker is left earning below a livable wage. the rally begins today at 11:45 a.m..

yeah. and there are concerns about children and some of san francisco schools facing racist attacks. community advocates say they want safe spaces and they'll sue to get them at an end. akp meeting parents of san francisco unified say their children have been bullied at school, and in some cases they've been physically threatened by adults in front of the principal. the president of the san francisco chapter of the akp says this is the 5th complaint that he's heard of a racially motivated attack at schools in the past 3 months. take a listen to what 1 grandmother felt about her grandson, transferring schools as a result, >nicole>there is talk of possibly filing a class action lawsuit against the district. parents say it's critical to effect change and make sure that their kids can grow and learn to school without fearing

>nicole>it's 910. let's get you caught up with what's happening here at home. around the bay, and there's a major announcement addressing the housing crisis in the south bay is a live look at san jose. we're in about 3 hours, city leaders will announce a new $4 million housing project. salvation army is building 74 temporary units as part of a shelter program. it will be available to current residents of the emanuel house on fourth street. the units will stay on the campus for 10 years during its remodel, and then the remodel also include another housing complex at the main entrance and expanded family services also happening today, male educators of color are invited to talk about the intersectional of emotional and mental health at generation thrive in oakland, attendees will gain skills of understanding emotional intelligence to better understand themselves and others. fireside chat will be taking place during the event, led by bay area rapper and

community activist, mr fab an emotional intelligence performance from coach db bedford. the meeting will be held this evening starting at 530 pm also in the town starting today, mom and pop shops expect to get a boost from small business week all week. oakland will host free in person and virtual panels, workshops and resource fairs for small business owners and entrepreneurs. it's needed as nearly a 3rd of the offices in the city's central business district. we're sitting empty at the beginning of the year. but that same study found an interesting trend. the amount of foot traffic in oakland was up by over 20% dublin shows how small businesses are trying to attract more visitors this week. >>at this downtown oakland bar its wine with a twist. women only make up 5% of the industry and people of color make up. probably 3% and black producers

make up 1% and the wine industry is a multibillion dollar industry. so what i wanted to do is reverse engineer the industry and provide retail space. specifically for the underrepresented winemakers and give them a platform to my audience >>business owner alicia kids all the wines at her tasting problems are made by women and people of color. i wanted to bring the wine country napa and sonoma to oakland nur wine shop and bar opened at the corner of 13th and webster streets in december of 2022. alicia says business initially got off to a very strong start with crime. it has my business has decreased in sales, but it's slowly trending upward. now that you know the some spring and summer's coming. oakland celebrates and kicks off small business week, many owners say the biggest challenge is crime. some experienced repeated burglaries and robberies has impacted my business. in a

sense that customers are afraid to come to oakland, so i've had to invest thousands of thousands of dollars in marketing to get customers to come. elected leaders say they hear them and are working to reduce crime during this small business week, the city will host free classes and networking events. this workshop on sunday focused on digital marketing somebody who is getting started, so i'm very new. i'm trying to figure out what social media platforms to leverage. how did just get your content out there working on growing my business, um, working my website and want to prove my social media presence artist and let less the business person but because it's my business. i have to do it hall and we're all those hats. so i came here to learn a little bit more about what goes into those many here say they chose to invest in the city and despite all the challenges they still believe in oakland adds color to end vibrancy to the city is actually the small businesses and the people behind these businesses. we shall greece and says thriving

the oldest continuously run restaurant the state is right in the heart of downtown san francisco. it's about to celebrate 175 years in business this weekend. we're talking about the tadich grill, which was ranked by 1 as the most legendary restaurants in the world. well, all you have to do is look at the 4 least signs next door on california street to see survival has not been a guarantee at least 2 well known restaurants near tadic have closed this year, including celebrity chefs, michael mina's greek restaurant. but tadic is still going strong and yesterday, community members and local leaders gathered at tadich grill and celebration of this huge milestone. >nicole>at yesterday's event.

mayor london breed officially declared april 28th tadich grill day in san francisco. >>it's going to be another warm day for us today in the bay area, especially in our inland areas like san jose, stretching off to antioch in livermore with 70s in the forecast throughout this afternoon, but really, it depends on where you live. if you're going to experience some warm conditions are not because if you live along the coastline, it's cool. and it's breezy today, topping off in the 50s, all of our micro climates are doing something just a little bit different. we're expecting 60s anywhere from san francisco all the way down into daily city 70s across the bay bridge over in oakland as we head into this afternoon, but let's talk about what happened. opening right after this, because, as i mentioned, we are expecting some breezy conditions along the coastline today and up to around 30 to 40 mile per hour winds from bodega bay down into half moon bay into the evening hours tonight with a lot lighter winds and our inland areas, but after today, we're going to continue to warm up and the winds are going to continue to die down as we head into this work week forecast. we'll hit the 80s near san jose and all throughout our inland

areas as we head into our wednesday and then thursday forecast just to cool down fast into the 60s heading into this weekend. and why is that? well, we have cold front moving its way in as we head into our weekend forecast. we're keeping a close eye on it because now our rain chances are starting to increase just by friday night heading into our saturday morning forecast, so big changes around the corner for us all throughout the bay area, not just our inland areas, but all throughout the day as we head into the rest of this week, but better yet, let's take a quick look at what's happening throughout the next 7 days. better yet, let's take a look at the inland forecast 1st 70s, turning into 80s as we head into this week, with plenty of sunshine in light winds wrapping up this week's forecast, but once we head into this weekend 70s, returning to the bay area with cloudy skies and hold on tight to those cloudy skies and light chance of showers as we head into our saturday and sunday forecast, with cloudy conditions to kick off next week, too. that's our inland areas conquered all the way over in antioch down into the santa clara valley once we head to the bay closer to oakland and san francisco, notice how temperatures are just a little bit cooler to

kick off the week and a little bit cooler to finish. the week, too, will hit the upper 70s as we head into wednesday and thursday. no 80s for now, but it's ok. it's still warm and beautiful nonetheless. and a little bit above average, too. with all that sunshine in store for us, we're going to get rid of the sunshine as we head into this weekend forecast that cold front moves its way in dropping us down into the low 60s by saturday, upper 60s heading into our sunday forecast with mild conditions to kick off next week. >nicole>elon musk surprise trip to china ends with good news for stockholders. plus good
