(male announer) live from the bay area's news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> new at 11. tonight, fighting the flu. this week, the centers for disease control and prevention reports. the latest flu vaccine is less effective for older americans compared to prior years. but kron four's philippe djegal spoke with doctors who say. you should still get the shot. >> reporter: that's coming from doctor shelley gordon. an infectious disease specialist at the california pacific medical center in

san francisco. the centers for disease control and prevention says those 65 and older who received a flu shot within the past year. are still as likely to contract the flu as someone the same age, who did not get the shot. but doctor gordon says these findings shouldn't discourage anyone from getting a shot. she says a shot could help minimize the symptoms. she says the c-d-c study is a work in progress. still, the earlier you get the shot, she says the better. >> reporter: in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> the nation is one week away from 85-million dollars in forced budget cuts., part of a deal that was struck in 2011 to raise the

this kind of calamity in air service in america." t >> officials continue to say that they are open to a short term deal that would head off the budget cuts. >> a man wrongfully convicted in a violent assault and shooting in oakland. and given a life sentence. but tonight. ronald ross is a free man for the first time in nearly seven years. ross took his first steps of freedom late this afternoon. after his conviction was dismissed. kron 4's dan kerman was there to capture his first reaction to being a free man.

a vacation... >> about 50 people gathered in downtown palo alto tonight. for a candle light vigil against gun violence. the group is calling for more gun control in california and the nation. members of both the palo alto and menlo park city councils were on hand to speak about upcoming legislation in each city regarding gun control. those in attendance said. more needs to be done to reduce access to dangerous weapons >> lawrence byrd, gun control advocate: we need tighter gun control laws in america. >> the event was part of a national day of action. designed to put more pressure on lawmakers to end gun violence.

instructor is in jail tonight, after being charged with several sex crimes against children including child molestation. jason pedroza is accused of engaging in sex acts with underage girls. and contacting minors inappropriately. via text and social media networks. the accusations come during the time when pedroza was working as an actor and instructor at the lesher center for the arts in walnut creek. pedroza was fired from his job there in november. he also previously worked at a ballet school in walnut creek. police are currently investigating if there are any other victims involved. a gilroy man has been arrested in connection with a marijuana bust. sheriff's say, when they served a search warrant yesterday-- tri tran had about 70- pounds of processed marijuana. and 468 marijuana plants in his home. the total street value for the seized marijuana is approximately 608 -thousand- dollars. the national park service

"further into danger." the justice department has joined the lawsuit against lance armstrong. the whislteblower lawsuit was brought on. by one of armstrong's former team- mates. it accuses the team's former management of defrauding the federal government of millions of dollars because
