14-hundred block of 25th avenue in oakland's fruitvale district. we'll bring you the latest on this story as details >> there's been another bad crash at a racetrack. this time in marysville. that's about 40 miles north of sacramento. and this one was fatal. authorities say two people were killed when a speeding race car ran off the track and into the pit area. the victims are identified as a 68-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy. they were part of the pit crew. and officials say they had a right to be in the area, but no more details were revealed about their >> you'll recall, a crash last month at the daytona international speedway in florida. dozens of people were injured when one of the racecars hit the wall, sending debris flying into the stands. officials there have since reinforced the protective fence. >> in berkeley. two people are recovering this morning after a robbery at a crowded dance club this weekend. one gunman is in custody. last night, a prayer vigil was held for the shooting victims. the shooting happened just

after midnight saturday at the ashkenaz nightclub. kron 4's alecia reid spoke to a witness of this violent robbery. >> comfort mensah describes the harrowing details of a night filled with horror. two gunmen stormed into the ashkenaz night club, robbed the place and in the process shot the manager and another member of the staff. her boss was behind the counter alongside her when gunshots rang out. he got hitsoon after another employee was shot. as soon as a bullet sent the employee by the

entrance crashing to the ground, mensah says one of the gunmen grabbed whatever cash he found at the door and took off. the other ran behind the counter to get what was inside the register coworkers tell us both men are in the hospital awaiting surgery. the employee by the door was shot in the shoulder. the manager was shot somewhere near the head. they tell us doctors are waiting for the swelling to go down befor attempting surgery. in berkeley alecia reid kron 4 news. >> for millions of catholics around the world. today marks the first sunday under a new pope. kron four's mike pelton has been following this story closely, he joins us live from st. mary's cathedral in

released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to kidnap a 12 year old girl friday afternoon. take a look. he's described as a 19 or 20 year-old caucasian man, about six feet tall with a thin build. he also has a goatee and a piercing in his right eyebrow. >> the attempted kidnapping happened around 2-30 friday afternoon on appian way. the girl was headed home from school and passed by this home. the suspect was leaning up against a four-door silver vehicle. she told police he grabbed her, and tried to pull her over. but she managed to get away. >> ".it is, but i think it's kind of a wake-up call that people need to be more aware of their surroundings. and their children need to be supervised at all times regardless of age." the girl reported the incident about two hours >> fremont police say they collected more than 300

just west of hegenberger road. next weekend, caltrans will completely close all northbound lanes of 880 at hegenberger road in order to finish the work. the airport connector is expected to open in late 2014. >> the investigation continues this morning in american canyon following a deadly officer involved shooting. saturday, a man was shot and killed by police after he led them on a chase. kron four's jeff bush picks up the story from there. >> about ten pm, friday night, an american canyon police officer attempted to stop the driver of this white pickup truck about a quarter mile away from this location at newell and donaldson. the driver did not stop and the chase was on. but, it didn't last very long. the pickup driver found himself at the end of newell road and ended up in a construction zone at the end of the street. for some reason the officer shot and killed the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle. witnesses

reported hearing several shots fired but it is unclear if all the shots were from the officer or if the driver fired a weapon. you can see a large police presence after the shooting. officers from several jurisdictions responded within minutes after the shooting. no officers were hurt during the exchange of gunfire. this is the first officer involved shooting since the town was created back in the early 90's. a special task force from surrounding agencies will investigate this officer involved shooting. i'm jeff bush in american canyon, kron four news. >> a high tech warning for california utilities. state officials say cyber hackers are increasingly targeting utilities. the result of those attacks could leave millions of people without water, electricity and other services. the public utilities commission is considering rules to increase cyber- security protections. the agency warns that utilities are becoming increasingly vulnerable as their networks add smart meters and other computerized gear.

experts say a cyber attack against an electric utility could lead to massive power outages and cause billions of dollars in damage. >> nato reports a fatal helicopter crash in afghanistan. the crash killed one coalition service member and injuring another. authorities say there was no enemy activity in the area when the helicopter crashed saturday, and the cause is being investigated. it's the second deadly helicopter crash in the south in a week. a black hawk crashed outside kandahar city on monday, killing five u-s troops.pictured here. monday night's crash brought the total number of u-s troops killed that day to seven, making it the deadliest day for u-s forces >> the conservative political action conference. or c-pac has wrapped up in maryland. the conference ended saturday with the g-o-p presidential nomination straw poll. it's considered a key gauge of conservative sentiment. senator rand paul of

official mass to inaugurate francis as the leader of the world's 1-point-2 billion roman catholics. >> also new this morning. a jury in ohio has found two high school football players guilty of raping a teenage girl. 17-year-old trent mays and 16-year-old ma'lik richmond were found guilty this morning for raping a 16- year-old girl who prosecutors say was drunk. this is all happening in small ohio town of stubenville. just west of pittsburgh, pennsylvania. the girl told the judge she had two drinks and then did not remember anything except throwing up and then waking up the next morning naked. the trial has received national attention because of racy text messages, cell phone pictures, videos and social media posts taken of the girl. the football players could be jailed until they turn 21. >> extra patrols will be out on highway one in marin county today between tam junction and point reyes. they'll be keeping an eye on packs of motorcycle and bicycle riders. the "sunday morning ride" is a tradition with riders because they love the curvy roads.

fan>> the carnival legend arrived in tampa early this morning. the ship sustained technical issues with it's propulsion system. those problems affected its maximum speed.

the legend is expected to leave tampa this afternoon on schedule, as technicians continue to make repairs. carnival stresses that the legend's safety systems, steering and services onboard are functioning normally. >> in pennsylvania, a bus women's lacrosse team crashed. killing the head coach and the bus driver. authoities say the team was on it's way to a game when the bus slammed into a tree off the pennsylvania turkpike saturday morning. 30 year old head coach kristina quigley was killed in the crash. she wassix months pregnant. her unborn child did not survive. the bus was carrying 23 people. many of them treated for minor to major injuries. >> should people have to prove u-s citizenship before they can register to vote? supreme court justices are set to hear arguments about that very issue tomorrow. arizona voters passed such a requirement in 2004, and state officials say they have the right to stop non- citizens from voting. but opponents see it as an

>> you're watching kron4's 24/7 bay area news channel. i'm marty gonzalez. here are te top stories. a dangerous situation is taking place in oakland. police have set up a perimeter on the 14-hundred block of 25th avenue. officers are trying to make contact with a suspect after an alert was issued around one-thirty this morning. two employees at a berkeley music center are recovering today, after being shot in an attempted robbery. according to officials two men entered the crowded music center on saturday and demanded money. they then proceeded to shoot the two employees. one of the suspects got away.a second suspect is in custody. the pinole police department has released a sketch of a suspect involved in an attempted kidnapping. the vctim says she was walking home from school on

continues this morning in american canyon following a deadly officer involved shooting. saturday, a man was shot and killed by police after he led them on a chase. kron four's jeff bush picks up the story from there. night, an american canyon police officer attempted to stop the driver of this white pickup truck about a quarter mile away from this location at newell and donaldson. the driver did on. but, it didn't last very long. the pickup driver found himself at the end of newell road and ended up in a construction zone at the end of the stree. for some reason the officer it who was the only person in the vehicle. witnesses reported hearing several shots fired but it is unclear if all the shots were from the officer or if the driver fired a weapon. you can see a large police presence after the shooting. officers from several jurisdictions responded within minutes
