( robin ) san francisco mayor london breed is facing scrutiny and criticism... for writing a letter on her brother's behalf, appealing to the governor to help her brother, who is in prison. kron four's terisa estacio caught up with the mayor.. who defended her actions... terisa estacio, reporting san francisco. believed it was an important step to take. mayor london breed, san francisco. i knew this was going to be an issue... and i knew it would be shot down, but i have long defended those serving time unjustly. and i wrote this letter on behalf of family members. san francisco mayor london breed speaking out about the backlash she is facing about that letter to governor brown....it was back in 2000 when breed's brother napolean brown was convicted of pushing lenties white out of a car on the golden gate bridge. white died of her injuries. brown has also had a record of drug arrests and convictions. mayor breed. he clearly needs help. he needs treatment. the victims mother has reportedly spoken saying she does not believe that brown should get any reduced sentence. however, this man... who served time for his crimes, and was attending an event with mayor breed quickly came to her defense. i think it is the right thing to do... for family to speak up and help. terisa estacio. the mayor says she has not spoken directly to the governor. the governors office says it does not comment on pending reuqests. in sf.

amid a sex abuse crisis in the church. pope francis accepted auxiliary bishop alexander salazar's resignation wednesday. in a statement, los angeles archbishop jose gomez said, in 2005, an allegation was made against salazar ... of misconduct with a minor. the alleged incident happened in the 1990's when salazar was a parish priest and not a bishop. the incident was previously investigated by law enforcement, but salazar was not prosecuted. details of the accusation were not disclosed, but the archbishop said, salazar has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. his resignation comes .... as the vatican says it is planning to improve its process of handling allegations of abuse. ( robin ) police have found the body of a missing woman out of roseville. briana ferguson went missing last friday... she was last seen at her home just before 3- in the afternoon. roseville police received a tip ... that ferguson's jeep had been seen in a remote area of nevada county. her

body was found nearby. nevada county investigators do not suspect foul play was involved. ( robin ) a fresno mother is charged with child endangerment after her 8- year-old daughter was killed after being hit by a train. police say the mother encouraged the girl to cross under the train while it was stopped. the mother... 44- year-old joy collins said she was afraid her kids would miss the school bus and told her two children to cross the tracks.... by climbing underneath the stopped train. her son made it through.. but the train started up when the daughter was underneath. the train was only stopped for 12-seconds before the girl was hit. this was also not the first time collins had her children cross the tracks. her son is now in child protective services. ( robin ) in the south bay, a san jose family tells kron 4 that someone has been stealing their christmas decorations.. it happened last week in the willow glen neighborhood and the thief was recorded on surveillance video. kron 4's charles clifford has details. well, christmas is less than a week away and the decoations are up on homes all over the bay area. the family that lives in the home behind me here put up their deocations just after christmas but there are a few things missing.this is is surveillance video from a home along gavota avenue in san jose. it was recorded just after 4 in the morning on december 11th.in the video a shadowy figure can be seen walking onto the lawn and stealing 4 christmas decorations, including a mickey mouse, a mini mouse and a rudolph. in all the thief is in front of the house for just a few minutes and then leaves in a car.sothe knew right what to go fortim lund

up a measure to to keep the government funded and running until early february. it comes after the senate passed the short term funding bill wednesday. reid binion reports. nat sot: "all in favor say aye. sacred heart community service is annual toy giveaway. where they try to make kids of working families struggling to make ends meet here in the bay area have a happy holiday season. their goal is to help over 6000 kids by giving away close and 19,000 toys. parents or guardians who made appointments are able to shop with a volunteer elf to help pick out two toys and a book per child and angela lottery and enter a lottery to possibly win a bike. this is the 54th year that this nonprofit has held this toy giveaway. they've already given away nearly 7550 pound boxes of food this holiday season. despite being located in the silicon valley here in the bay area common one of the most expensive regions in the united states if not the world. they say the need is real. "our members report to

( robin ) the service dog for the late preside george h-w bush.... is back home. sully won the hearts of millions... when images of the pup laying beside bush's coffin.. went viral. the two-year- old labrador retriever was specially- trained to support bush 41. now, sully has returned to the facility that trained him -- "america's vetdogs." but it is a temporary stay.. for the holidays only. sully is now headed to the dog program at the walter reed national military medical center. he will be helping wounded soldiers and active duty personnel with physical and occupational therapy. ( robin ) one california bakery is taking the holiday tradition of gingerbread houses to the extreme. this gingerbread house took them six weeks to create and weighs more than 150 pounds! it's on display in the lobby of the four seasons biltmoreotel in montecito, california.
