highview now for 29 going on for 30. hey. and it is a wet slick. one out there. leave the house a little early, but don't take my word for the time. you can back me up in that department as well. good yeah, it definitely is wet out there. we saw a rainfall overnight last night rain and it will continue on and off through the day today. today is going to be a day that may catch you off guard if you're not keeping a close look like on the radar. >> because we'll have dry times and then we'll have times rainfall moves back in a really quickly, too. can see it's really windy there at the embarcadero right now. rain is coming down pretty light around san francisco at this moment, although we are seeing heavier pockets elsewhere, know all that blue that we're seeing from the oregon border. well, down to the sierra nevada and even down into lake county. so welcome to be seeing this much-needed snowfall across the sierra. it's going to pile up in feet up there today. as for the bay area, it's the on and off rainfall for us. look at this. we've actually got a heavy southwestern san francisco down to daly city at this

moment, comparatively a little quieter on the northern edge of the city. but this is what you're looking at around the avenues in sunset district, right along to 82 is a true versus down from san francisco down into san mateo county. zooming out a little bit. all that rainfall that you're seeing right off shore is about to be working its way onshore. these next couple of minutes. that means areas like san mateo down to palo alto. you're about to be seeing your rainfall intensity picking up here in just moments and zooming out a little bit further. what we also do have is a few light sprinkles in the south bay. what we do have in the north bay is pretty widespread stuff this morning, mostly on the lighter side, but light to moderate in portions are in on up into napa and sonoma counties that heavier rain that i was showing you a few minutes ago in northern portions of napa county is now moved out into calusa county just a little bit further north of the bay area. so a little bit quiet for most of us, but that heaviest pocket of rainfall actually give you an update on

it is now about to work its way on portions of downtown san francisco. so that heavier spot is going to move further and further eastward. all up to you. one more time here on the trajectory of that rain will work its way over the bay bridge likely out into the east bay. so even if you're quiet right now, we are going to be seeing an uptick in rainfall for those of you that are a little on the calmer side for the time being those pockets of heavy rain is the way it's going to go this morning. you'll see lighter conditions one moment and then it picks up the next. so just keep ready for rain jacket. umbrellas might not the rain. and as you're stepping out your doorstep, but no guarantee it's going to stay that way. 5 minutes from now, snow in the sierra stays put all day long today. by the time we reach the late morning, a lot of these showers begin to clear out you're going to get a false break from the rain still be prepared for. but you may even see some sunshine. but we are going to see a resurgence of rainfall late this afternoon in pockets of heavy rainfall

during that carjacking kron four's fully to gospel with the head coach who says it's been really rough for the team this week. >> the berkeley police department is reviewing surveillance footage that may have captured the weekend carjacking involving coaches and members of the berkeley high school mountain bike team. the group of 5 was robbed at gunpoint near the intersection of 8th and virginia streets just after 3 o'clock saturday afternoon, head coach nick effort to make says the thieves were armed with guns wearing ski masks. coaches van for bikes were stolen and another badly damaged. well, the suspects drove off unfortunate. there's also tragic death on monday at the high school. >> that has affected the team that day. a student died after falling from a parking structure. >> pepper to the mix as they were not a part of the club but were well known to members who are taking the last car emotionally taxing. we've definitely been working as a team to start of.

>> get through this together on saturday. hamper to make says the team was robbed while the coaches were dropping. one of the athletes off at home, they just returned to berkeley after a bike ride in napa county. it seems like people have picked up on bikes being pretty easily transportable. worth a lot. and relatively easy. >> sell on the great martin black market. this as bikes are growing in demand. well, gas prices continue to soar. >> in all the bike teams last totals, more than $20,000. fortunately, the community has helped raise more than $23,000 to replace what was stolen. phillipe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> in san francisco, a civil case against businesses that are accused fueling the opioid epidemic in the city starts on monday. the lawsuit takes on manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies which engaged in what the city and county

allege was an unlawful and harmful flooding of san francisco with opioids. a long green and the allergen pharmaceutical company, teva pharmaceuticals and endo pharmaceutical company are all listed as defendants in that case. city attorney david chiu says this is a first of its kind case because his office is targeting the entire supply chain. >> together, the over supplied opioids that resulted from the defendants false and misleading statements and from the defendant's failure to control against diversion, flooded san francisco with prescription opioids in created the crisis that we see playing out on our streets every day. >> according to the city's already entering a settlement with one of the defendant, the companies agreed to pay 10 million dollars to san francisco to combat the crisis. 5 million dollars to be paid immediately. and then the 5 million more is going to be paid over the span of 10 years. well, a group of people

who are homeless are living on airport property right next to where planes land in san jose kron four's. justin campbell takes us to that encampment as city workers move to try to move a little further away from that runway. the skies above are clear, but just below rotten garbage and squatters living on airport property. >> we'll stay back. going 10 by 10 san jose city workers notify people that it's time to go. they keep this area and was not vacated. we will start to dismantle and clear by the week of may 16 olympia williams, a division manager with beautify san jose just cannot live here, says the faa is demanding the area to be cleared for safety reasons. this is a flight coming in right now. i yes. i mean, you just. >> for a variety reasons in case they're needed there. any emergency actions that need to happen at the airport. they know this area is clear. >> the city has already

says the city has helped him secure housing. are you excited to move? >> well, it >> but for others frustrated because i still don't have nowhere to go will have 30 days come the end of june to find a new home. way from descending planes and airport property reporting in san jose. justin campbell kron. 4 news. >> the bay area air quality management district wants a pot business to stop using diesel generators in east oakland. district officials say green sage is operating the generators without a permit at the oakland tennery and oakland cannery on san leandro street. well, officials say they will ask the district's independent hearing board to order the business to shut down operations. if the hearing board approves a request in green, sage will be required to shut down the generators immediately. well, officials say east oakland suffers more air pollution than other parts of the bay area and approval of that abatement order will

help protect local residents and the community. rain. saints did not respond to requests for comment. well, the real estate website zillow is reporting that bay area housing prices are up 20% since the start of the year and a year-over-year cost of a typical home in a san francisco metro area went up almost 20% just over 1.4 million dollars, the monthly mortgage at $5700. even rent went up 11%. well in san jose, home values went up about 24% year over year with an average price. at 1.6 million dollars and an average monthly mortgage at about $6500. zillow. senior economist tells us when home prices could potentially cool off. >> that's kind of an early indicator that i like to watch is what if we actually see inventory begin to rise year-over-year? that would be a major indicator that buyers are going to start to get a bit more negotiating power and a bit more of a chance to

maybe buy a home at list price. maybe sometime later this year. >> buyers remain ready to pounce on any inventory than it's the market. the typical time homes on the market in march was down to 9 days. today's faster in february. well, your money, high gas prices continue to put a strain on drivers across the country, which is why president biden has now announced several actions aimed at changing all of that. one is he's got a release oil from the strategic petroleum reserves. and officials also say the decision to let gas stations sell a higher ethanol blend this summer is also making a difference. but ultimately experts say the president has a limited effect on prices and costa really set by the global market, which has been facing instability. >> there are very few weapons in the president's arsenal. they could use him. pretty much trying everything. there really are limits on, you know, how much polls the makers can do to really drive down the price at the pump.

to the kron. 4 morning news that i view now at 04:45am. here on this thursday morning. >> and feel like we've got is slight break. but now the rain is set back again. and happy buddy, because don't have to do much in the yard. just let the water do his thing. yeah. that rainfall is giving a lot of people some relief today, rain and we're going continue to see on and off showers through the day today into tomorrow morning. today's rainfall. >> it's not been super consistent. it is on and off. you'll see pockets of heavy rain. then you'll see areas where the sunshine comes back out. certainly very cloudy here in the east bay hills right now as we see this line

of showers dropping a little bit further into the bay area. snowfall is going to stay put in the sea are all day long today. so we see waves of energy working their way through the bay. the sierra just consistently rainy looking at our heaviest areas of rain on the peninsula into san francisco right across the bay bridge on up into the berkeley hills right now, some pockets of heavy rain there. snowfall up in the lake county mountains will continue all day long. comparatively a little quiet. mendocino county. a lot of that energy is already push through for you. but a little bit closer of a look at those areas of heavy rain, right west of walnut creek. you've got a pocket of heavy rainfall, berkeley hills. you're in the midst of it right now to some heavy stuff on the eastern span of the bay bridge and then also down into burlingame millbrae just north of sfo right around san bruno down towards the southern end of daly city in the we do have some pockets of heavy rain right there. right across san francisco, it's coming down. pretty good right now. little quieter for the south bay, san jose. just a few sprinkles for

you. you drive up north of redwood city and it starts to be picking up a little bit further 2 low-pressure areas working their way through this results in the waves of energy. we will be seeing today. you have a push of rain, calm spot, another push of it. another common sunny spot in that final push into the evening tonight. snow up in the sierra nevada stays with us all day long. while those waves of energy work through the bay area, embedded in these spots of rain are those pockets of heavy rain. you see the yellow, the orange spots. those areas could even produce some isolated thunderstorms with small hail and even some cloud to ground lightning, too. by 10:30am, catching a little breather. then we see a resurgence of rainfall. again, briefly into the early afternoon. these ones could produce some thunderstorms, especially out towards the central valley. some sunshine this afternoon after that. and then a resurgence of it again into the early evening tonight. tonight's rainfall likely the heaviest for many spots in the bay. also going to see the heaviest snowfall tonight up in the sierra nevada. that's

when that feat is really going to be piling up there at those higher elevations. rain snow begin to diminish midmorning tomorrow and after that's a much improved conditions. if you need to head up into the sierra, we do have a winter storm warning in effect through 11:00am tomorrow. improving conditions after that. if you can hold off till saturday morning for your commute, that will be an even better time to be heading up to the sierra to enjoy that feet of new snow fall one to 3 feet of it on some of those mountain passes such as donner summit as you head towards lake tahoe. now, temperatures today back to the 60's. familiar stuff here, right where we yesterday tomorrow, one more day of 60's before we start to tap into some 70's this weekend. lots of sunshine for saturday sunday and likely staying dry into the start of next week, too thanks for that. let's quickly get rich check this morning. hey, bay bridge for you may see that from us to exit. >> slick conditions, but still about a 10 minute drive for you. there. the san mateo bridge and across towards the peninsula. it will be a little
