>> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking news. >> that breaking news tonight at 6. the man accused of attacking a former san francisco city fire commissioner found not guilty by a jury. good evening. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 6. i'm ken wayne and i'm vicki liviakis. garrett. dodi was accused of an april 5th attack in the city's marina district. that x fire commissioner don carman yanni kron four's grant lotus is here in the studio with us now to help us understand what happened in this case. grant ken vicki, since this attack happened back in the spring, garrett od's defense has argued that. >> this was not a senseless attack but self the fence from dodi and today the jury agreed with that argument. you can see from the video here this april 5th altercation between dodi who is a 25 year-old

unhoused man and carmen yanni. the 53 year-old former fire commissioner. we'll coming out of there in the black and here he is at a ballgame. dodi used a metal rod in hit carmen it cutting his face open, breaking his jaw, but apparently that doesn't tell the whole story. the san francisco public defender's office provided evidence and testimony that revealed carmen first went after dodi with bear spray and allegedly threatened to stab dodi if he didn't move his belongings as this case continued. other allegations came out accusing carmen yanni of targeting other an house people in the marina with bear spray. there were 8 such incidents dating back to november of 2021, when asked about these incidents, the public defender's office says carmen yanni did not testify instead of vote. his 5th amendment right against self incrimination. we'll keep you posted here. if we learn more. vicki, for now, we'll send it back to you.

>> i thank you. happening now, many californians are out there hitting the roads for their holiday destinations. keeping a keen eye out for drivers as their maximum enforcement period gets kicked off there. so this is an f y i definitely want to watch yourself there. also, bay area airports are expected to get real busy as many californians hit the skies for their holiday destination. yeah, more than 115 million americans are set to travel to their destination this holiday. >> more than 15 million of them right here in california. that's going to be high travel traffic for the next at least week or so. tonight we have team coverage on holiday traffic kron four's theresa stasi live for us at sfo with how things are looking there. kron four's gayle ong in the weather center with how weather is shaping up, especially in southern california after they got really hit hard by some rain

se it's been pretty smooth sailing here in sf out. >> it was all bustle at sfo friday heartland. that big live 152,000 travelers are expected to pass through the airport this day. we're really looking forward to a senior family and like being with everyone about gifts, aren't you looking forward to opening up gifts? it's a hectic to fly during the holidays. where is it really is action about all over here in the i caught up with several families as they weave their way through the terminal board a plane to their destination. first time flying for the holidays, actually. so, yeah, so far

it's a. >> bet so far casual this was a very welcome sight for many the arrivals and departures port showed most flights were on time. only a slight handful of delays to do what. i on the 23rd last and it was terrible and it took hour to get through security and i wanted to be anywhere else. but but i had to go and see my family. 7 figures cross. everything's better this year. i'm hoping i'm hoping last year, benjamin luke was one of the many caught up in a painful turbulent, massive cancellations. bad weather led to a system meltdown creating a domino effect and leaving thousands stranded. fortunately with clear skies predicted the many parts of the country travelers tell me that they are hoping for a smooth and uneventful flight. so he's crazy, but i don't know. it but nothing.

>> to write home about reporting live here at sfo and theresa stasi. go back to you guys. all right. thank theresa seems like the passengers have pretty good attitude about getting ready travel out there. that's a nice christmas present jumping into the jungle out there in the east bay. the oakland airport was jam packed with people trying to make it to their destinations. this is how the airport was looking this morning. tsa lines extending way past the checkpoint. officials are reminding people to make sure to check their flights arrive 2 hours early for domestic flights. >> and happening now, chp is mentioned earlier, they're out there in full force out there on the roads for their annual christmas maximum enforcement period. it lasts from now right on through midnight christmas day. officers are keeping a keen eye out for any impaired drivers out there during last year's holiday

enforcement period. 26 people were killed in crashes and nearly half of all the vehicle occupants killed. they were not wearing their seat belts. now, if you do plan on hitting the roads, here's a look at the best and the worst times to do it for the next couple of days. triple a says the best time to go is tomorrow morning before 10, the worst time tomorrow from 11 to 07:00pm and then sunday and monday, christmas. expected to be light for the day after christmas. the best time to hit the road is before noon. the worst time is from one to 5. and with that, we're going check in with kron four's gayle ong for a look at the weather, which is always important as we're trying to get around during the holiday scale. >> so we're to resell was at sfo. looks a nice no delays at this time. i want to show you the rest of the major hubs and around the state. a so san jose, oakland, los angeles, even remember los angeles have that deluge of storms and massive delays earlier. so las vegas good. the only place

we're seeing a delay right now is phoenix and that same storm system is now heading that way. so at last check was about an hour, is always good to check your flight status as you head out the door. take a look at stormtracker 4. we're quiet in northern california and that activity has shifted ease. as i mentioned over 2, the phoenix area now just taking a look at what's going on across the country. even the east coast, new york washington, atlanta and miami also looks quiet. we to see some rain in chicago, but some heavy downpours over and the desert southwest. temperatures out the door. we're in the upper 50's low 60's. so pretty comfortable. i wind speeds though we have this onshore flow in san francisco. so breezy in the city of fairfield is 12 miles per hour right now. so it's happened based everywhere else, relatively calm. so for tonight, just expect some temperatures to dip down to the low 30's, low 40's low mid 40's. that is and mostly clear skies and some patchy fog. here is the rest of your holiday weekend. we have a pleasant weekend in store.

this is really exciting because we've been active all week. so saturday looks mostly sunny in the low 60's a sunday and monday, which is christmas. we have upper 50's for you and some partly cloudy skies. now notice though, we have overnight lows dipping down to the 30's starting saturday and sunday. so you'll be needing your sweaters for this holiday weekend. back to you. >> all right. thank you. we have breaking news right now out of oakland where we're getting word that a person was stabbed, happened just outside city hall. as a matter of fact, police say the stabbing happened before 3 o'clock this afternoon. broad daylight. police say the victim was standing near the front lawn of city hall when another person just walked up, stabbed them and then ran off. no other details are available at this time. new at 6, we are learning the name of the man who was stabbed to death in pacifica. authorities have identified him as 30 year-old ezra raymond pouch from the stabbing happened at a home on naomi avenue yesterday

morning. a woman was also stabbed inside the home, but she's expected to recover. police conducted a search for the suspect. 46 year-old jason guillen water who was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound up in ukiah last night. a source telling kron 4 he was a paramedic and that he was arrested for domestic violence before the stabbing. no word on a motive in the stabbing. community. members in oakland held a rally outside colonial doughnuts today. it's just one of the city businesses. it's been repeatedly hit. >> by roberts kron four's. catherine heenan live for us in our newsroom with the details. kathleen. >> well, these were people can who say they're rallying not only in support of the doughnut shop, but for the safety of residents and businesses all over oakland and as the rally was getting underway, word was spreading. that not only was colonial donuts robbed again tuesday. it was robbed this morning just ahead of the rally.

>> no no justice will these are people standing more than frustrated. they sound angry and say the problem of rampant crime in oakland is so bad they want to state of emergency. what is going on here we have crime is out of control. and we are becoming the joke. the of the joke crime across the country. we've had people murdered right outside our gates. we've had people right outside gates. so victims of crime. we've seen the video of the robberies at colonial donuts, one in june with armed man jumping the counters. >> and terrorizing employs and then another robbery this week. but not everyone in the neighborhood realize the count is now up to 3 robberies this year. a representative for the owner brought the public up to date. unfortunately, we've heard this is the 3rd time that colonial donuts has been

>> 3rd federal civil rights lawsuit has been filed against the city of antioch and dozens of sworn police in the police department there. kron four's philippe djegal tells us attorney representing the plaintiffs accuse u.s. department of, quote, cultivating a long history >> of unconstitutional

policing. civil rights attorney john burris says up to half of the antioch police department has been implicated in the ongoing federal and county investigations into a felony bribery. >> and racist text messaging scandal. a scandal exposed last year. they should be no way. >> officer feels they can engage in this type of conduct and not have some some significant ramifications in august. the contra costa county district attorney's office filed 6 complaints with the court against officers employed by the antioch and pittsburgh police departments. >> unjustified shootings, assaults and arrests are among the accusations on thursday. burris and his law firm filed a 3rd civil rights lawsuit related to the scandal. >> against the city of antioch, 2 former police chiefs interim chief and dozens of police officers. burris says, 0, 3 lawsuits will be combined into one. it includes 20 plaintiffs, at least 25 defendants who are or were sworn officers and

possibly up to 100 more listed as john doe's micro damage is is is certainly for the individual. that's not that's the i can really looking for is a finding. >> a pattern and practice of constitutional violations that exist by this department. and therefore, we want to have a series of reforms that move much of the misconduct in the manner which is misconduct has occurred. burris intends to prove the police department needs institutional controls put in place to ensure officers are following the law. and this could include a signing a federal monitor to oversee the agency. >> philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> we reached out to the city of antioch and the police department to get their response to this latest lawsuit. we have not yet heard back. kron 4 continues to put the focus on fentanyl and the crisis here in the bay area. a homeless man who >> held up signs advertising free fentanyl outside of san francisco school. he's been convicted of creating a public nuisance. prosecutors say that

joseph moore held signs that read, quote, meth for stolen items and free fentanyl for new users. that's across the street from stella maris academy preschool to 8th grade school on geary boulevard. he was also accused of blocking access to a sidewalk on 9th avenue with hisdbelongings. a jury found more guilty of willfully and unlawfully committing a public nuisance. he faces up to 6 months in jail and will be sentenced next week. new numbers from governor gavin newsom's office are shedding light not only on how widespread san francisco's fentanyl crisis is, but >> also how effective the chp crackdown has been. the governor says the highway patrol seized more than 40 pounds of fentanyl since officers and the national guard were deployed back in may. that's enough fentanyl to kill more than 9 million people. all of those drugs are found in the city's tenderloin neighborhood alone. chp also issued more than 4,000

>> 20 miles per hour when they're so that sea breeze is kicking at tonight. so definitely want to have your jacket handy. >> so here's our storm tracker. we are quiet in the bay area and northern california. i know we had our rain earlier in the week but take a look at southern california now we know there is a deluge earlier with some flooding problems with that activity has now moved over east of this is the system that also brought us rain. now it's heading towards the arizona border by you mothers, heavy downpours there causing some delays in phoenix. so if you have a travels there, just keep that in driving wise, if you're going to head out to southern california tomorrow, be a better day. there is a winter weather advisory, though, towards big bear lakes. they're getting some snow. so just be safe out there. here's the rest of your weekend. and the bay area saturday is dry and quiet. mostly sunny. we see a change sunday with some passing clouds and maybe some patchy fog and cooler temperatures in the morning. but other than that, your holiday weekend looks pleasant, especially if you're going to san francisco.

this video is taken wednesday night in the briones area of martinez, bay area chocolate store, see's candies is closing one of its locations in the city. the embarcadero center shop will be closed down for good christmas eve sunday night, a sign on the door striking shoppers to the nearby location on market street after december 24th. the company has not released a specific reason for the closure. has more than 30 remaining locations open across the bay area. has all day travel season gets underway. doctors warning of a surge in respiratory viruses. >> yeah. coming up for california stands in flu cases right after the break.

>> as millions head out for their holiday destinations. health officials are warning about covid and flu surge right now. >> because many americans have yet to get their updated shot. so here's a map from the cdc showing the latest flu levels around the country. as you can see, california is in the red, meaning a high number of flu cases. today we talked to a doctor with cbs health on just how to stay healthy during the holidays. >> not too late. so flu season actually peaks during february. february is the peak of flu season. it actually goes all the way until may so very important that patients are protected. people did miss out on that opportunity. they think it's too late, actually not too late, especially as we head into the holiday season. there's going to be lots of travel, lots gatherings of family and friends. and we want to make sure our patients are protected from all sorts of respiratory illnesses this season that includes flu covid

>> in the east bay, alameda police are warning holiday shoppers about thieves that are trying to swipe their purpose purchases. police say the thieves going so far as to actually follow the shoppers home kron. 4 ella sogomonian has the story. >> it's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be a little bit worrisome. alameda police here say that thieves have been targeting shoppers. >> the south shore shopping center is a popular destination for holiday gifts. but alameda police say malls like this also attract criminals, especially this time of year. they've already reported people being followed home and robbed after trip to the store. because i just hear about more and more violent things happen. you people have kids with them and that to me, like as a mom. >> makes me really nervous. some people we spoke with had heard about the problem. well, it was news to others. alameda
