lot. bunch of cars damage. luckily, no reports of anyone getting injured, which is definitely a lucky considering the size of those tires. take a look at this map from flight aware the flight was headed for japan. it initially diverted back to sfo. but then that plan changed. it was diverted again and landed safely at lax this afternoon. this is the plane on its approach. there to lax. again. it did land safely around one 30 pm. it was then immediately surrounded by emergency crews. we have team coverage this rob nesbitt and dan kerman are both standing by at sfo. dan will start with you. take us through what happened here. well, you know, everything was

the plane's tires fail off crashing into vehicles in an airport employee parking lot. the boeing 7, 7, 7, was then diverted to los angeles where it landed safely. and passengers were transferred to another plane. investigators will now look into how this happened. they usually put the whole wheel assembly. >> on a on an airplane when they change the charge and it's possible i hope i don't want to say it because it's very embarrassing. they may not have secured the real property we'll know about. this definitely find out. the good thing is that nobody got hurt. crew did excellent job so that the air traffic control. >> the tires, one of several on each landing. gear strut. this mishap follows damage to a wing on a united jet last month. and in alaska airline door panel that blew out mid-flight in january. i'm just wondering if the

airplanes are held together with duct tape. right now, travelers heading in and out of sfo on thursday were startled by the news but said it likely would impact their future travels. i used to be stirring as younger, but now as i get older, i'm like. >> we can't escape a i this when i go into plane, stressful. something happens, it happens if it if it doesn't, then i got lucky. one would hope after some of the incidents that those start upping the inspections doing little bit more care before people get on the planes in. and like i said no minute ago, i'm really glad that i talked to after i got off my plane today. >> that duct tape lined kind of hits home. joined now by kron four's rob nesbitt, who is in the parking lot where this wheel came ity guard did

allow me that i could see the cars that this tire landed on. and here's the video of you can see just how hard this tire fell crushing the back window inside of that silver car. the black car parked beside it also has damage to its driver-side. it wasn't just the cars that took a hit. you can see the chain-link fence behind them was bent back. also, there was caution tape around the fence, but no caution tape around the cars. you could walk right up to them. i spoke with travel industry analyst henry harteveldt about the concerns passengers have with these problems happening. more and more. he referenced a delta plane having a tire fall off a few weeks ago. >> the alaska airlines flight that had a door fall off and now the tire that this united flight had fall off, leaving a he says today could have been much worse and that we're lucky there were no serious injuries in the parking lot. >> thank goodness. this didn't

happen. >> over a park where there were people who are schoolyard or onto a building or something else. the ntsb is going to get the tire and look for any other piece of parts of the landing gear assembly so that it can determine what was the cause of this accident? was it something as simple as forgetting perhaps tightness of nuts and bolts or is there something more to it? is there perhaps mental fatigue failure or whatever else could be the cause. >> as part of said, the ntsb will be investigtake off report live at sfo. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> it really could have been so much worse. this recent incident just adds to a growing list of issues at boeing. our ken wayne joins us live in the studio with more on that part of the story. big

picture can grant noel. federal authorities are investigating several recent issues involving boeing aircraft ranging from the loose tire too. a door flying off during a flight to planes catching fire. take a look at engine on a united airlines flight. a boeing 7.37. caught fire right after takeoff from an airport in houston. this was monday night. the man who took this video says it sounded like a bomb going off in that. the plane took bit of a nosedive right after that. the aircrews able to make an emergency landing back in houston about 30 minutes later, nobody was hurt. united offered each of the more than 100 passengers, a $200 flight credit in a $15 meal voucher for their troubles. the cause of that engine fire is under investigation. early nast last month. federal investigators say the rudder controls, which are back here. the writer is back here on the another united flight, a boeing max jet failed during a landing in

new jersey. this was on february 6th. the pilots say the petals that control rudder movement were stopped as they were going down the runway. he said they had to use a nose gear steering wheel to veer from the runway to a high-speed turn off. investigators say although mechanics couldn't pinpoint the problem, the plane did work normally after they swapped out some of the rudder control parts and then a few weeks before that, a delta flight to boeing 7.37 max jet lost a nose wheel while preparing to take off from atlanta. authorities say the plane was taxiing for departure when the wheel came off. nobody was hurt. investigators say the plane was 32 years old and was not the same model as the 7.37. max that has raised safety concerns in recent years. and then the incident that started the onslaught of several in investigations its years. of course, that door panel that flew off the alaska airlines flight a 7.37 max 9 that happened in early january. a preliminary report by the ntsb

found that. the 4 bolts that should have held the door plug in place. we're missing when the plane left boeing's factory recently, an audit on boeing shows the plane failed quality manufacturing requirements in the faa says it found that the plane had, quote, non-compliance issues in boeing's manufacturin process control, part handling i mean, there's thousands of flights that go off every single day all around the world. how concerning is this right now? it's a big deal because we've had the spate of those one. maybe 2, you know, in time period, it would raise eyebrows people. and now we've had like half a dozen. and the

big question is what's going on at united even there outside vendors that they use in the case of the the plug door, the door plug that had missing for boats. basically it comes down to attention to detail. i mean, these planes have strict regulations on how things are supposed to work in their checklist when these planes roll off the factory to make sure that those boats are in there. that's on paper. some place. somebody has that somebody has a responsibility to put those boats in. somebody should have the responsibility to check that. that person did put the banks into eyes. 2 sets of eyes on that problem. there's a breakdown somewhere. these these procedures are not being followed. you don't fly these huge jets, but you fly a plane and there's of protocol. basically once a year you got to get checked out right? >> well, for the commercial doubt that the atp, their transport pilot's say have to titus regulations of also. it could be wrong. but believe that every 6 months i know every 6 months they do have to

have an faa medical examination of physical to make sure they're confident the fly and they're depending on the type of airplane that they are flying. there are regular simulation drills that they have to go through to make sure that there are still qualified to fly those planes. it's that's an ongoing think for for the flight crew. now is that what's happening for the mechanics and the people are building these planes. that's all different picture. doesn't sound like any of these issues had anything to do with what the crew members are doing in the cockpit. they're responding to problems that are outside their control, their jobs harder these days. absolutely. it's salute. thanks, ken. >> another big story takes us to the east bay tonight. a neighborhood is just in shock after a woman was shot and killed along second all circle in pleasanton today. this is video from that scene. police are investigating the situation but say the woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds. that shooting led to a chase. and that chase ended with a complete shutdown of interstate 5.80. kron four's gayle ong is live for

us tonight at the scene along the freeway. gayle, what's the latest? >> jagr and just steps away from that scene. and that investigation, i'm told, is just about to wrap up here and all lanes on 5.80, should be reopened by the hour. but this is just one piece of that murder suicide investigation. investigators spent the day focusing on the sedan on the westbound shoulder 5.80, according to the california highway patrol. the call came in from pleasanton police just before 11:30am, in the morning thursday. there are requesting assistance of their officers were actively in pursuit of a known a murder suspect on 5.80, pleasanton police responded to a home on saginaw circle. >> around 11:00am a woman was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. the suspect was seen driving away and was followed by pleasanton police in an unmarked vehicle. a pursuit ended here in san leandro near the benedict drive exit the driver, a

suspect in a murder suicide case died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the suspect vehicle while in pursuit. >> crash and at that point, there was a high risk staff as well as the standoff for approximately 30 minutes. >> with the combined efforts of all allied agencies, it was determined that the suspect had to come to his own injuries. officers took measurements and diverted traffic as they piece together what led to both crimes. >> and we're told was that believes will be handling the murder suicide investigation. meanwhile, back here live, we're here on 5.80, westbound just in front of the benedict drive exit. we're told police are just wrapping up their investigation. all lanes should be back. reopen sometime within the hour. live here in san leandro. gayle ong kron. 4 news. gayle, thank you for that live report coming up in underserved north bay community gets new discount grocery store. how they
