darnya's sandwich shop and it's the only one, well, you're exempt from this. but if you're mcdonald's or taco bell and pizza hut, starbucks. all national chains. this impacts you. so you obviously have more than 60 restaurants across the country. what does it mean? well, it means affective immediately. the minimum wage for approximately 500,000 fast food workers in california goes up from 16 to $20. governor gavin newsom actually signed this into law last fall, but today is the day it goes into effect. governor newsom says that unlike previous generations where teenagers predominantly worked at fast food restaurants as pocket money. now, it seems like most of them are adults and they need the money to put food on the table for their own families, not just high school kids, which is why he is all for the wage increase, but not everybody is for the employers. many of them say they for this that it could end up costing depending on

how large their workforces, as much as 225,000 to 500,000 extra every year, which could mean a hiring freeze or layoffs. and in most cases it's already happening in the expected to happen even more. they will pass along the difference to customers. we've seen the price increases whenever we go to a restaurant. now, it looks like that's going to happen as well. so we will talk to customers throughout the morning. some of them they are in full compliance with this. they don't have any problems with it, but others it's gone viral. they say they can't believe how much say a burger and fried meal costs these days. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll. >> 603, is the time in the east bay. if the post-covid business climate isn't tough enough, imagine being burglarized on easter sunday. >> happened yesterday to a small business in oakland. kron four's dan kerman has more.

>> you need that's the city that to take action and to prevent this from happening to us. this is not fair. this easter sunday. this is the sunday that we should all be spending time with our loved ones and enjoying this day, not having too, you know, cleanup last. look at this. that's exactly what oakland clothing designer taylor jay had to do easter morning after being notified her flagship store on broadway had been burglarized. >> it happened about 05:30am, in the morning after breaking the glass in the front door. security video shows a man coming inside the store and helping himself to a wide array of goods being a small business in oakland and how tough things have already been for us. >> you know, small businesses general. it doesn't feel good. it doesn't feel good at all. it's really devastating. really heartbreaking in it. it's very discouraging. >> jay says the burglar was in the store for 15 minutes and made off with ipad cell phones and thousands of dollars of

clothing bags and accessories. he even took our own people, use our suitcases, impact our inventory in the soo cases. in addition take removing items, it's a tough pill to swallow. taylor. jay has been in business for 10 years and takes pride in the fact her garments are not only designed in oakland but made in the city as well. and while this incident has are rethinking store's security, she says she has no plans to leave. in fact, she hopes the incident will serve to rally the community. i think this is all of our businesses that year businesses might is. my business is yours and we should be in and the right way. and we have to support one another to be here and we have to speak about a vocally. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> same story again this monday morning to report more sideshows. they happen over the weekend throughout the bay area. you see one overnight. there were many in the east

bay attracting dozens of people. this just after midnight so early in the morning yesterday. franklin canyon road john near parkway curriculum. that's near the franklin canyon golf course. people are lighting fireworks to and the issue to the car, spinning donuts and around one 30 in the morning years. antioch, more people. they are blocking this intersection at lone tree way and golf course road as doing more fireworks here at the sideshow. again, this is a thing police went there and broke that one up. and oakland. sideihows to 45 in the morning. 51st street telegram avenue in the temescal neighborhood. officers got there, car started to make a run for it as it was. you know, you can see that got really pretty dangerous. we hunter, anybody being hurt, but without clothes, the cars were the crowd. and oakland police are investigating a sideshow that ended with a hit and run crash. the driver got into

another car after crashing and took off before the police got there. >> this happened about 8.30, saturday night on burma road again. nobody was hurt. but all this stuff going on over the weekend. well, fire. >> breaks out in 2 buildings in san francisco's mission district. investigators say arson might have been involved. the most recent fire broke out early saturday morning. it was on high street between 15th and 16th streets. firefighters say a car first went up in flames and the fire spread to 2 nearby buildings where people were inside. >> the fiames had spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings, either older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 107 says the firefighters to the scene. >> crews were able to get several people out of that building safely. 2 were treated for minor injuries in total, 10 people now been

forced out of their homes. and this comes about 24 hours after a fire damaged a historic church just blocks away. saint john, the evangelist episcopal church caught fire just before 3 o'clock friday morning. the outside of that building was damaged. the inside, though, was saved. no one was hurt and the church was still able to move ahead with its plan to easter events. but a member of the church staff says they don't think this was an accident. >> very, very clear that someone with the church on fire. this was not. accidental. church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage and we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> supervisor hillary ronen who represents the mission district says both incidents are being investigated. now as potential arson and are being taken extremely seriously. >> is 609. now we have developing news to tell you about san jose police investigating the scene after a deadly crash on saratoga

avenue. it was set near the harker school campus and 2.80, one person, a man was struck and killed while he was walking the northbound lane of saratoga avenue was closed for several hours as police investigating this deadly pedestrian crash happening today. rideshare drivers hold a rally. they want better working conditions are going to say just series of events. they're going to have a caravan. they're going they want to call attention to critical issues impacting their work and that includes they say low pay and unfair. deactivation ys also high company fees and safety risks. they're going to be 2 news conferences as well. today, one in front of the uber headquarters in san francisco. the other front of the lift headquarters in san francisco. >> well, city of sunnyvale is asking. plans now to help disadvantaged residents move

about the city a bit easier. last week the city council voted unanimously to create a rideshare service for less than $5, which is cheaper than what you'll find with uber or lyft and more convenient than a bus. the city is now moving forward applying for grants to make this ride share service a reality. the city will partner with silicon valley hoping to bring rides between the sunnyvale and cupertino areas. supporters are hoping that this will help bring cars off roads and help the elderly and the students that need right? well, here's the latest. artist renderings of what the stadium could look like. for the a's as they're moving to las vegas. but according to now, the very latest from espn, the city of oakland is offering an extension to the team. the contract would be for 5 more years in the east bay. espn says the city in the a's will be meeting tomorrow to continue talks about the matter. meanwhile, according to espn, oakland mayor sheng thao says that she is

you think off the bay area's that way. the rest of the state is too, but not so much. southern california does have potential of thunderstorm activity. got the low spinning off just to the south of us. this won't impact us very much for the bay area, but definitely some stormy weather for the southwest futurecast shows all the sunshine that we will be looking at both today and tomorrow. tomorrow, expecting a little bit of fog up and down the coastline. not much of it, though. burns off really quickly. wednesday is going to be a bit cloudier just a little bit cooler. still pretty nice and comfortable. thursday comes along with even cooler temperatures in the opportunity for some light showers returning to the base of the tail end of the week. we're getting cooler and we're getting water again today. and tomorrow, though, it's those 60's and 70's, lots of sunshine and even warmer than yesterday was saying, carlos, through mountain view down into the south bay, expect low 70's for your highs east bay times. also in the 60's to 70's dublin in union city right at 70 degrees. walnut creek in castro valley at 72.

maison. not seen any slowing conditions just yet a 16 minute ride reaches back to you. thanks. a lot of rain is 6.19, in the east bay. police in oakland are investigating a fatal stabbing. >> it happened on friday around 07:00am on 15th avenue near san antonio park. and that is where police found the victim. they've been stabbed at least once. paramedics tried to save the victim, but they died of their injuries. we don't know their identity yet. 6.19, right now an oakland man is sentenced for trying to traffic arms at the port of oakland fares. abdo aiyana was convicted of conspiring and attempting to export defense articles to the middle east in 2019, ali, ani acquired multiple guns and goggles with night vision and tried to send those firearms in shipping containers from the port of oakland, law enforcement intervened, seized the containers and the firearms. >> well, state leaders are now looking to get less money to

cal works programs to 2 programs. in fact, that helps thousands of families in order to help stabilize the budget deficit. one program subsidizes jobs for low-income californians and the other helps families experiencing domestic violence or homelessness. 354,000, california households with children receive cal works benefits each year. cal works has a 7 billion dollar budget. legislative analyst's office says the employment program doesn't use about 40 million of their budget, but the family stabilization program uses all of its money each year. san francisco state senator scott wiener says the budget committee is working right now on a budget package that is looking to avoid impacting cowards programs. it will be released later this spring. >> san francisco celebrated transgender day of visibility in the style. asia sf held celebrations at their location. and the business is a restaurant that hosts transgender cabaret

in san mateo county were low compared to others. that area also saw a 65% rise. researchers say it's not known to what extent guns are fueling the increase, but they say they are a big part of the picture. another violent crime you say other violent crimes like rape and homicide are trending downward. that's some good news. that's according to data from the fbi. a stabbing near san francisco. whole foods has sent one man to the hospital. that stabbing happened at about 9 o'clock sunday morning. he's outside the whole foods on ocean avenue in the city sunset district video from the citizen app showing now policed a police presence outside of that store. when the when they arrive there you see the police tape when they arrived. police say a man was found with stab wounds. he was bleeding. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. officers arrested a man they believe was connected to that attack. but the investigation is still ongoing. did 6.26 and the family of a man who was struck and killed by garbage truck in san jose last month is now

suing. >> they're suing the company that owns and manages truck for this accident. that was deadly. it happened at the tersection elm street mckendry draw street near san jose's airport. the man was crossing the street when the truck, which is owned by green waste recovery made at turn and struck him. the driver of the truck did stay at the scene for the investigation. lawsuit alleges the truck did not stop at a stop sign and instead rolled through the stop sign ended up hitting the man from behind and then ran over his body santas. but today police are still investigating 6.26. and happening now. kia is recalling about 427,000 suvs. >> this is affecting 2022. 24 telluride suvs. we've got the wrong video rolling here. but let me tell you what's going on with these vehicles. they come. they might roll. excuse me, hold on one 0nd. they might roll away if you put them in park. so if you have a kia that is involved in this

right now, mister, that fremont street exit 81 to about 14 minutes, still fairly light on 101, it 80 starting to pick up a little bit. we had earlier traffic hazard as you're traveling to hayward, 11 min run on the richmond, sandra fell bridge golden gate bridge just short of 19 minutes. all right, james, back to you. thanks a lot. reyna 6.31. and tomorrow, more than 3500 nurses in santa clara county are going on strike. yeah. that three-day strike may impact services to patients this week and crawford's michael thomas is up in the newsroom. >> with a preview of that, michael. hey, good morning, everyone. will this three-day strike was approved by about 97% of santa clara county nurses in the professional association, all who say that working conditions have become extreme and now a safety concern. so in exchange they do want more pay better staffing and essentially more security. this system might strike involves more than 3700 nurses at santa clara county. that excuse me, santa clara valley medical center, o'connor hospital, st. louis regional hospital and a handful of other medical clinics. all are planning to

walk off the job tomorrow to begin that three-day strike as they have not been able to reach an agreement with county officials for a new contract negotiations have been going on since last october and focusing specifically on salary benefits and the nurse to patient ratio, nurses say the county is not negotiating in good faith with the county says it's currently facing a massive budget deficit but still remains committed to providing a fair contract. this walk-off may affect certain services of patient care, but officials with the hospitals tell us they have taken the steps make sure that positions are filled when it comes to critical care units and other departments. as of right now, those picket lines are set to happen at all. 3 hospitals beginning tomorrow morning. i did reach out to both county officials and the nurses association for comment this morning to see if they would be meeting ahead of this strike and maybe come to an agreement have not heard back as of yet. that's the very latest in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas story. james, we'll send it back to you.

thank you, michael. time now 6.33, governor newsom is planning to install hundreds of cameras in the east bay to combat crime. >> 480 high-tech surveillance cameras are going to be installed 290 of those cameras will be on the streets of oakland and 190 will be along freeways and that area. the first cameras to go up are expected to be online within the next 30 days. oakland city councilmember dan kalb has been pushing for this and he supports the governor's plan. >> have a serious crime problem not all neighborhoods, but many neighborhoods and it goes up and down. we need to do the best we can to investigate a are this. but the most serious crimes that happened in our city investigate crimes, you have to have evidence. you have to have lead to have to have information and a high-tech surveillance cameras can be one of the sources that get us information to help successfully investigate crimes and hold people accountable who perpetrate

crimes? >> not everyone is in favor of what the governor is doing. the anti anti-police terror project says they're considering the city and the state's large budget deficits. the money is for the cameras. they think would be better going to tackling homelessness issues and helping people get a living wage. the governor's office says that the cameras are going to retain recordings for 28 days and the video will not be disclosed to 3rd parties be on state law enforcement. >> well, and alexis gabe documentary will air this spring after the community rallied to get a network to show the episode. gabe was reported missing back in 2022. and officers found her partial remains in plymouth that very same year early in march, we reported the documentary about the oakley woman's homicide would air on discovery. plus, however, the family received news that the episode would not air this spring. the family turned to the community to rally to get the network to air the episode. the network

has since announced that that episode about game will air as planned. in the east bay berkeley. police are looking for 2 people in connection with the shooting. now that shooting happened just after 3 o'clock yesterday morning right near the uc berkeley campus. police say one of the suspect shot at someone who interrup1ed them in the middle of a burglary. they say the shooter and at least one other person sped off in a dark colored car. fortunately, nobody was hurt. >> time now 6.35. and a shelter-in-place was lifted in san leandro after a police standoff which was saturday afternoon. this started around 3 o'clock in the afternoon when a man stole a truck and he led police on a chase. we talked to 2 people who saw the whole thing. >> well, there is that red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. >> and police say that the man they arrested was carrying at

least one knife. he was locked inside a different car for this standoff and and officer says that the man appeared to be having some kind of mental episode. negotiators eventually were able to talk to him and he was taken to the hospital. >> in the south bay, a hazmat team and bomb squad investigated an odd odor after 3 people were taken to the hospital overcome by the smell. crews responded to this apartment building in san jose on bon lee avenue near 2.88. is happened saturday night and the hazmat investigation forced everybody in the area evacuate that building. but in the end, investigators didn't find anything suspicious, though. as you said, 3 people did go to hospital. they were experiencing some breathing issues. we're still not sure what caused those complications, but the all clear was given and residents were allowed to return to the building about 1 o'clock in the morning yesterday. >> well, some developing news out of truckee now where the ntsb spent sunday investigating what turned out

to be a deadly plane crash. plane went down near the truckee airport to people were killed. rowena shaddox has the latest. >> well, just behind me and down a ways is the side of this fatal plane crash. an ntsb investigator arrived just before noon time and now their investigation is underway. >> just on the other side of these train tracks along glen shy or drive an olympic boulevard. is the area where the national transportation safety board is investigating the crash of a company dire tbm, 700 airplanes which went down around 6.30 last night. the truckee tahoe airports, facebook page shows this plane as being very similar to the tbm aircraft. richard manso, who lives about a block away, heard the plane just before it crashed into an air show and you hear them revved their engines down. you're like a big. >> i like it was basically

like that. and then i just heard like a. >> he says the sounds were muffled by the snow coming down at the time. there was weather last we had a little bit of snow going that visibility was bad. and when there's snow and clouds, you don't really hear things. >> you know, as as if everything is nice and clear, kind of surreal it in a sense why why planes going over my house like that at that time of night. a spokesman for the ntsb says their investigator will begin documentation of the wreckage and crash site. >> we saw workers in orange, vast looking in and around the site. the coroner says the bodies were still inside. couldn't move them until after the ntsb arrived on scene. they say their investigation involves 3 primary areas. the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment. >> the investigator says she hopes she will soon have more information to share. the

say that ward and conspired with joseph vincent navarro, a former director of caltrain. who also approved thousands of dollars in building expenses to turn it office into a small living space inside the burlingame, train station caltrain employees first discovered the converted space at the millbrae station in 2020. authorities say the transit agency was unaware the burlingame location until getting an anonymous tip in 2022. well, as california faces a multibillion dollar deficit, one bay area is pushing effort now to keep funding a pilot program that provides access to nutritious food for low-income californians. we're talking about assembly member alex lee, who supporting this special fruit and vegetable pilot program should since its launch about a year ago. the program reimburses calfresh participants up to $60 a month for spending money on fresh produce set participating retail locations. data shows the program is running at about 90% participating markets across the state

impacting about 75,000 people. but the special program is set to run out of funds and pause indefinitely in mid april. and that's why lee is calling on the governor and the legislature to keep that 30 million dollar program alive. but his request comes during a year when the state is projecting billions of dollars in deficit. >> comparison of scale, 30 million dollars out of a 260 billion dollar budget is still not the boost money. it's a relatively small amount. and i think we can find some room to sweep around like this. that really is having great achievements and metrics. what we have with this program is something that's highly successful, reduces hunger improves health and supports california agriculture. >> we did reach out to governor newsom's office to ask if he plans to include money for this in the budget. so far we haven't heard back. >> time now, 6.50, and we have heard of maybe a little free library. of course, you see those outside people's homes. actually a check this out.
