from your san jose view, which is a little blocked out right now. low 70's for your daytime highs. back to you. >> thanks a lot. let's get back to the big story about the pay raise for fast food workers that could raise prices when you ret a burger and impact right as their minimum wage goes up to $20 an hour we have kron four's will tran on the story for us live in pleasant hill morning. well, >> it's affective as of right now, james, fast food workers like at starbucks, mcdonald's, they're making $20 an hour up from an average of $16 an hour. you know what this actually went into law last fall. but today is the day it starts. governor gavin newsom signed it last fall and he believes that fast food workers deserve a pay raise because many of them they're not teenagers adults with families and they need the money to provide for their families. many employers, they pushed back on this saying they simply cannot afford to pay their employees more

money, saying that he could end up costing them depending on their workforce. 250,000 to half a million dollars more each year. so they said they could be doing hiring freezes layoffs and passing along the price to customers so they can still stay in business. got a chance to talk to some customers this morning. i asked them, would you be willing to pay more? >> i think they need more. they work really hard, especially here at starbucks. i see them busting and i think they need a lot more. don't have a problem paying more if necessary. i don't. i don't. i really don't. i think they deserve it. and they're hard working. >> not every fast food location will be paying $20 an hour to their employees. the reason being this law says it has to be 60 restaurants or more. so probably pertains mostly to national chains like starbucks or mcdonald's or

pizza hut, those places or be impacted more than say your stand alone, a fast food location that only you own. there's not another location for that. you should be ok as far as what's going on. well, a lot of people they don't like it. some people do like it. but the bottom line is it goes into effect as of this very moment >> back to you. all right. thanks a lot. well, let's go to other parts of the east bay now where if the post-covid business climate was an already tough enough for small businesses, here's a story. one that got burglarized on easter sunday. small business in oakland hit yesterday. kron four's dan kerman has more. >> you need that's the city that to take action and to prevent this from happening to us. this is not fair. this easter sunday. this is the sunday that we should all be spending time with our loved ones and enjoying this day, not having too, you know, cleanup last. look at this. that's exactly what oakland clothing, designer taylor jay had to do easter morning. >> after being notified her flagship store on broadway had been burglarized. it happened

about 05:30am, in the morning after breaking the glass in the front door. security video shows a man coming inside the store and helping himself to a wide array of goods being a small business in oakland and how tough things have already been for us. >> you know, small businesses general. it doesn't feel good. it doesn't feel good at all. it's really devastating is really heartbreaking in it's very discouraging. >> jay says the burglar was in the store for 15 minutes and made off with ipad cell phones and thousands of dollars of clothing, bags and accessories. he even took our own our suitcases impact our inventory in the soo cases. in addition take removing items, it's a tough pill to swallow. taylor. jay has been in business for 10 years and takes pride in the fact her garments are not only designed in oakland but made in the city as well. and while this

incident has are rethinking store's security, she says she has no plans to leave. in fact, she hopes the incident will serve to rally the community. i think this is all of our businesses that year businesses might is. my business is yours and we should be in and the right way. and we have to support one another to be here and we have to speak about a vocally. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> a lot of side shows over the weekend and the bay area. this one overnight in the east bay attracted a lot of people happened. around just after midnight early yesterday morning. franklin canyon road john mayer parkway. that one is in hercules, but it was the same story and other bay area towns. take a look this. one was in antioch, one 30 in the morning. yeah. this is a big one. look at how close the cars get to the people. plus, there were fireworks laser.

and no lasers, right? which lines a driver correct. now just lucky that nobody was hurt in this one, which is amazing. in oakland, there was a sideshow there. look at this. all the smoke. oh, yeah, and a lot. and these people are in the middle of intersection and on the edges and there's the fireworks. yeah. and actually a police went there to disperse the cars, but everybody took off before they could make arrest apparently. and then there was a sideshow to end it in a hit and run crash. that was earlier in the evening. that happened in oakland around 8.30, saturday night on burma, road. nobody was hurt. police are investigating that. >> well, from that, let's go to some fires that broke out in 2 buildings in san francisco's mission district. investigators say arson is something they're looking into now. the most recent fire broke out early saturday morning on why street? that's right there between 15th and 16th. you can see the firefighters there, the ladder trucks extended. they say this one started as a car fire, but then it spread to 2 nearby buildings, buildings that had people inside.

>> the flames had spread of the back of the buildings. these are what we consider a ordinary construction or wood-frame buildings, either older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. this rapidly expanded from a first alarm to 3rd alarm bringing over 107 says the firefighters to the scene. >> that's a huge response. crews were able to get several people out of the building safely. you can see here. some were treated for minor injuries, smoke inhalation that think that sort of thing in total. they say there were about 10 people who were forced out of their homes. and this also comes about 24 hours after a fire damaged a historic church just blocks away. you see video here to the left or to the right on your screen. saint john, the evangelist episcopal church. it caught fire just before 3 o'clock friday morning. the outside of the building was damaged. the inside thankfully was spared. nobody was hurt. san fact the church was able to continue on with its planned events for easter weekend, although we did talk to a member of the church staff and to them, this doesn't look like an accident.

>> very, very clear that someone left the church on fire. this was not. accidental. thankfully of church did not sistine massive structural didn't go up. it's there is exterior damage we will be needing to repair that we secure that. the interior was largely untouched. >> that's at least some good news supervisor. hillary ronen who represents the mission district says that both incidents now are being investigated as potential arson. >> it's an 0, 7 and saratoga avenue in san jose is open now. but there was a pedestrian was struck and killed last night. >> it was near harker school and 2.80, that this man was struck. he ended up dying of his injuries. we don't know his name at this point. >> today, though, will be just a few minutes. rideshare drivers will be rallying. they want to call attention to their working conditions and they want to improve those conditions. they're going to

have a caravan and rallies to address critical issues that impact their work, including what they say is low pay on ferre de active. is it activations high company fees and safety risks. there will be 2 news conferences. one in front of uber headquarters in san francisco. the other in front of lift in san francisco. wnll, while they are rallying for better conditions, the city of sonny bill's actually thinking of launching a ride share service of its own. >> to help disadvantaged residents get around. so the rideshare service would apparently cost less than $5 a ride which is cheaper than uber and lyft. the city council voted last week to move forward with this plan and start applying for grants. so that process has begun. the city apparently will partner with transportation company, silicon valley hopper to bring the service to sunnyvale and cupertino. supporters think the elderly and students will benefit the most. all right. let's talk sports. the a's. and as the team gets ready to build this stadium in las vegas. >> espn is reporting that the

city of oakland has offered an extension to the team while they wait. so the contract would be for 5 more years there in the east bay. espn saysithat city and the a's will meet tomorrow to continue those talks. so as we wait for word on that, we're also hearing from oakland, mayor sheng thao. apparently espn says that she is committed to doing everything in her power to keep the a's in oakland even beyond this 5 year extension, she says having major league baseball in oakland is not only what's best for the league and for the players, but most importantly, it's what's best for the fans. >> 10, 0, 9, right now. and still ahead on the kron, morning news. what caused a small plane to go down in truckee, killing 2 people. >> and the stolen truck lead san leandro police on a chase. we're going hear from some witnesses. plus after the break, an iconic san francisco club is pushing back its closing date. we'll show you what you can see and for how long.

bay police in oakland are investigating a fatal stabbing that happened on friday. >> it happened after 07:00am on 15th avenue right near san antonio park. officers found a victim suffering from at least one stab wound. paramedics tried to save them, but unfortunately, that person died. the person's identity still being withheld until the notification of their family. >> it's 10 19. an oakland man is sentence for trying to traffic arms from the port of oakland for us. abdo al knee was convicted of conspiring and attempting to export defense articles to the middle east in 2019, ani acquired multiple guns and goggles with night vision and tried to send those firearms in shipping containers from the port of oakland, law enforcement intervene and sees the containers and the fires. >> governor newsom has issued a proclamation in honor of cesar chavez yesterday, california and 6 other states observe the activists birthday as a formal holiday from 1951.

the south bay, the family of a man hit and killed by a garbage truck in san jose last month is now suing the company. >> that owns that truck. the crash happened at the intersection of elm street and mckendree street right near san jose airport. police say the man was crossing the street when the truck turned and struck and killed him. it was owned by green wastewater waste recovery. police say the driver of the truck stayed at the scene. lsuit alleges the truck did not stop sign and state rolled through it, hitting the man from

behind and running them over san jose. police are still investigating. well, former treasury secretary steve mnuchin is still working on attempting to buy tiktok from a team or with a team of investors. but there's a catch, according to a report by the washington post mentions group wants to buy the app. but without the algorithm behind it. the team wants to rebuild how that apple recommends videos to its users from the ground up part of the funds used for the purchase would go towards hiring the engineering team that would make that happen. the report says the decision has left potential investors and those close to the deal a bit baffled. >> it sent 25 and for your money this morning, some people are taking a risk to get their home for the down payment. recent survey from bankrate says that about 10% of homeowners took money out of the retirement savings to secure their new home. 12% of millennials and 16% of gen z buyers used their retirement

this moment. so we are warming up quick at this time and we'll see a lot of those 70's into the afternoon today. i'll get some more details as we go back to you. thank you, john. it's 10, 30 right now and >> more than 3500 nurses in santa clara county are starting a three-day strike has so for more on this, we want to go out live to kron four's. michael thomas in the newsroom with. >> what we need to know, michael. hey, good morning, everyone. will this three-day strike was approved by 97% of santa clara county nurses from the professional association. >> say that working conditions have become extreme and are now becoming a safety concern. so they're asking for more pay better staffing and security. this system wide strike involves more than 3700 registered nurses. this includes some at santa clara valley medical center, o'connor hospital and st. louis regional hospital all planning to walk off the job tomorrow to begin that three-day strike. they cannot come to an agreement with county officials for a new contract. they've been in negotiations since last fall

around october time and they've been focusing on salary benefits and the nurse patient ratio, nurses say the county's not negotiating in good faith with the county says it's currently facing a massive budget deficit, but it continues to be committed to providing a fair contract. now, the walk-off may affect certain services, but staff at the hospital say they're already preparing and they are bringing in temporary staff. >> we have a dedicated group of leaders and many staff who will be working around the clock through the weekend to make sure that we can adequately or aunt and train the supplemental staff who will be joining us during the strike to continue those critical services to the community. >> as of right now, the picket lines are set to happen tomorrow morning. and this will be at all 3 hospitals. we did reach out to both county officials and the nurses association for a comment this morning on if they would be needing to try and make negotiation before tomorrow. we have not heard back as of

yet as we do. we'll keep you updated. that's the very latest here in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas story. james, we'll send it back to thank you, michael. time now 10 32 governor newsom is planning to install hundreds of cameras in the east bay. >> to help combat crime, 480 high-tech surveillance cameras are going to be installed 290 on the streets in the city of oakland and another 190 cameras will be installed on freeways in the area. the first one is to be online should happen within the next 30 days. oakland city councilmember dan kalb has been pushing for this for some time and he is pleased with the governor's plan. >> have a serious crime problem not all neighborhoods, but many neighborhoods and it goes up and down. we need to do the best we can to investigate a are this. but the most serious crimes that happened in our city investigate crimes, you have te have evidence. you have to have lead to have to have information and a high-tech surveillance cameras can be one of the sources that get us information to help

successfully investigate crimes and hold people accountable. who perpetrate those crimes? >> not everyone is in support of the anti-police terror project says that considering the big budget deficit of the state, the money would be better used for things like homelessness programs and helping people get a living wage. the governor's office says the cameras will retain records for 28 days and the video will not be disclosure, shared with 3rd parties be on state law enforcement. and alexis gabe documentary is indeed going to air this spring after pressure from the community. alexis gabe went missing in 2022. and police ended up finding her remains in plymouth later that year. in march, we reported that there were going to have a documentary about the murder on discovery. plus, but then the family got word that the network changed its mind. so the family turned the to the community and they pressure the network to air the story and work discovery. plus is going to air the documentary on alexis gabe, as planned.

>> will shelter in place has been lifted now san leandro after a police standoff happened saturday afternoon. stanley police say it started just before 3 o'clock when a man stole a truck and that led police on a chase. we spoke with 2 men who saw it all unfold. here's what they had to say. >> well, there is that red truck that crashed into the tree right there, knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car and he >> yeah. after that, police say the man who they think was carrying at least one knife locked himself inside of a different car. that officer at the scene told us that the man appeared to be having some sort of a mental episode. so they eventually brought in negotiated who helped talk him out. and he was taken to the hospital. >> it's 10, 35 in the developing news out of truckee. the ntsb spent yesterday investigating this deadly crash of a small right near the airport. there is a

matter of fact. rowena shaddox has the very latest on the investigation. >> well, just behind me and down a ways is the side of this fatal plane crash. an ntsb investigator arrived just before noon time and now their investigation is underway. >> just on the other side of these train tracks along glen shy or drive an olympic boulevard. is the area where the national transportation safety board is investigating the crash of a company dire tbm 700 airplane that went down around 6.30 last night. the truckee tahoe airports, facebook page shows this plane as being very similar to the tbm aircraft. richard manso, who lives about a block away, heard the plane just before it crashed into an air show. and you hear them their engines down. you're like a big. >> i like it was basically like that. and then i just heard like a.

>> he says the sounds were muffled by the snow coming down at the time. there was weather last we had a little bit of snow going that visibility was bad. and when there's snow clouds, you don't really hear things. >> you know, as soon as if everything is nice and clear, kind of surreal it in a sense why why planes going over my house like that at that time of night, a spokesman for the ntsb says their investigator will begin documentation of the wreckage and crash site. >> we saw workers in orange, vast looking in and around the site. the coroner says the bodies were still inside. couldn't move them until after the ntsb arrived on scene. they say their investigation involves 3 primary areas. the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment. >> the investigator says she hopes she will soon have more information to share. the cause of the crash is being determined, but the plane went

down as the pilot attempted to land at the truckee tahoe airport. neighbors say back in 1992, there was another fatal crash in that general area after plane had taken off from the airport. richard says this accident is especially tragic being that today is easter sunday. when many families are together. that's really sad that i mean, everything like that is really sad for sure. >> well, for your health this morning, local officials are warning residents about the dangers of measles. they say the number of cases continues to climb. not only here in the bay area but around the world. measles was declared eliminated here in the u.s. back in 2000. but now it's making a comeback. fact, the cdc reported 97 confirmed cases so far this year across 17 states, including right here in california. >> 90% of the cases that the cdc has identified nationally are are are coming in are
