business owner in oakland asking the city to take action after her stories broken into on easter sunday. plus, some fast food workers will see their minimum wage jump up to $20 per hour this week. but what does that mean for the prices were going to be paying at restaurants? rideshare drivers are rallying for better working conditions for live in san francisco with the very latest. >> from the bay station, you're watching kron. and news. >> thanks for joining us here on kron for news at noon. i'm justine waldman. our top story today is that rideshare drivers in san francisco are holding a rally right now for better working conditions. they're addressing some critical issues. they say are impacting their work. those issues include low pay. an fared activations high company fees, safety risks. and there's a lot more prosperous. charles clifford live for us now in san francisco with the update here. thanks for joining us.

>> well, good afternoon. right now, i'm just off of 3rd street here in san francisco. that is the uber headquarters right behind me there. the rideshare been driving around the building. they're going to stop get out. hold a rally here shortly. they're asking that uber and other rideshare companies like lyft do more to protect and help drivers. on monday. dozens of rideshare drivers rallied outside the san francisco headquarters of uber and lyft. they say the drivers are dealing with low pay high fees and dangerous working conditions. they believe that these companies have made it hard for drivers to earn a living. a lot of the drivers sleep in the car to come from far away from sacramento and they're homeless in their cars. so what >> humanity is that to someone have to sleep in the car to be able to provide for their families. they are also concerned about the growth of self-driving car technology and worry that it could one day put drivers out of work completely. it would affect a lot of people and the economy

where they be without a job. in a statement to kron 4 lyft said we are constantly working to improve the driver experience, which is why? >> just this february, we released a series of new offers and commitments aimed at increasing driver pay and transparency, adding that drivers will always make at least 70% of the weekly writer fares after external fees. but drivers we talked to said that after they pay for insurance car maintenance and fuel, the profit they are making is barely enough to survive on rent is high. food is really high to as well. >> gas is high so it doesn't compare and that even you get a ride for $4.3, $1, not even with the gas prices are are at right now. >> kron 4 also reached out to uber for comment, but we have so far not heard back. >> all right, back live. now, if you're in san francisco, keep in this protest me happening along 3rd street. there could be some delays and then they're going to move a few blocks over by oracle park to berry street to the lift headquarters this afternoon on hold a rally there. but for

now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you so much. >> the city of sonny bill is thinking of launching a ride share service of its own to help disadvantaged residents get around. the rideshare service would cost less than $5 a ride. the city council voted last week to move forward with this plan and to start applying for grants. the city will partner with a transportation company called silicon valley hopper to bring the service to sunnyvale and cupertino. we're supporters think that the elderly and students will benefit the most. now to the east bay. and if the post covid business climate is not tough enough, imagine now being burglarized on easter sunday. that's what happened to a small business in oakland. kron four's. dan kerman reports. >> we need that. the city that to take action and to prevent this from happening to us. this is not fair. this easter sunday. this is the sunday that we should all be spending time with our loved ones and enjoying this day, not having too, you know, cleanup last. look at this. that's exactly

what oakland clothing designer taylor jay had to do easter morning after being notified her flagship store on broadway had been burglarized. >> it happened about 5.30, in the morning after breaking the glass in the front door. security video shows a man coming inside the store and helping himself to a wide array of goods being a small business in oakland and how tough things have already been for us. >> you know, small businesses general. it doesn't feel good. it doesn't feel good at all. it's really devastating is really heartbreaking in it's very discouraging. >> jay says the burglar was in the store for 15 minutes and made off with ipad cell phones and thousands of dollars of clothing bags and accessories. he even took our own people, use our suitcases, impact our inventory in the soo cases. in addition take removing items, it's a tough pill to swallow taylor. jay has been in business for 10 years and takes pride in the fact her

another sideshow. spectators blowing off another round of fireworks here and police did respond to the scene and they were able to break up the crowds and oakland, another sideshow happening here about 02:45am in the morning at 51st street and telegraph that in the temescal neighborhood when officers arrived, they. >> started to see those cars to spurs and you can see some people hanging there from the cars. lot of smoke as well. and now oakland police are investigating one sideshow that ended with a hit and run crash according to police. the driver got into another car. >> and then drove away before officers arrived. that- happened around 8.30, saturday night on burma, road. no injuries reported, though the investigation is ongoing. well, look at beautiful sunday here at san francisco international airport. right now. it is absolutely gorgeous out there as we kick off april. no joke in the weather department at all right now, kyla. it is fabulous. i'm completely serious. when i say it is a beautiful day out

there, i'd say a top ten-day, right? we're taking a live look right now from a sitter tower camera. >> and it's just wall to wall blue skies out there. we're going to see some temperatures really warm up today. fact, already starting to see, yes, you're not seeing things 70's on the map. it is 70 degrees in santa rosa right now, 70 in napa. but listen, we're not that far away from it in concord, where it's 68 san francisco downtown. the gauge right now showing 65 degrees. 66 in san jose. so obviously we're warming up. in fact, if you're in napa, one of the spots is really where right nrw they're 10 degrees warmer than they were this time yesterday. so this trend is going to go through tomorrow. we're finally going to see a peak and then we're going to pull back a little bit. but right now you take a look at stormtracker 4. you can see just how beautiful those blue skies are. not just here in the bay area, but all across california. yeah, it's a great day to get outside. maybe each or lunch outside or take a walk. but we're looking good here and this will be our story, as i mentioned today and tomorrow, we do have nice calm, wind out. there can see just a little bit of a breeze

fairfield there about 16 miles per hour. but everybody else looking pretty good highs today will be above average. we should be in those upper 60's inland. we're talking about some low 70's in a few spots. could get to that mid 70 degree mark. so a really nice day to enjoy if you're headed out, may be here to the coast. it's a perfect day to take a lack of backing a little bit. we'll talk more about our extended forecast because, yes, i do a little rain in that seven-day forecast. another setback for a storm battered section of highway one landslide has closed another portion of the historic roadway. >> between big sur and carmel by the sea, a nearly one and a half mile portion of the southbound lane crumbled into the sea on saturday, just south of rocky creek bridge. caltrans says daily convoys will lead essential drivers and travelers through that closed area from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. the same area is still struggling to recover from multiple landslides that are triggered by past winter storms. new at noon

pleasanton. police were surprised by recent delivery from a citizen to the department's front lobby. here's what they got. the department says someone turned in 3 live grenades that were found in their garage. the alameda county sheriff's office bomb squad responded and took custody of grenades for destruction. pleasanton police are asking the public not to touch dangerous explosives, but instead give them a call. happening tomorrow. more than 3500 nurses in santa clara county are going to go on strike. this three-day strike may impact services to patients this week. first, michael thomas lets us know what's happening. >> this three-day strike was approved by 97% of the nurses part of the santa clara county nurse association. see that working conditions have gotten so bad. it's now a safety concern. they're asking for better pay better staffing and more safety. the systemwide strike involves more than 3700 registered nurses at santa clara valley medical center, o'connor hospital and st. louis regional hospital all

planning to walk off the job tomorrow to begin a three-day strike as they can't reach an agreement with county officials for a new contract. these negotiations have been ongoing since last october with a focus on salary benefits and the nurse to patient ratio, nurses say the county is not negotiating in good faith with the county says it's currently facing a massive budget deficit but remains committed to providing a fair contract. the walk-off may affect certain services offered by the hospital, but staff at the hospital tell us they're currently preparing and bringing in temporary staff. >> we have a dedicated group of leaders and many staff who will be working around the clock through the weekend to make sure that we can adequately orient and train the supplemental staff who will be joining us during the strike to continue those critical services to the community. >> as of now, the picket lines are set to happen tomorrow at all. 3 hospitals. we did reach out to both county officials and the nurses association for a comment but have not heard back as of yet as we get more details from officials will

>> many fast-food workers in california are getting a raise starting today, minimum wage goes up to $20 an hour. but that also means a possible increase in food prices. kron four's will tran in pleasant hill with the details. effective immediately approximately 500,000 fast food workers in california. they are getting a raise from $16 to $20 an hour. >> this was actually signed into law last fall. but today is the day it takes effect. so what does that mean for you? there's a good chance. your favorite items like its starbucks mcdonald's burger king, the national chains more than likely. we'll be charging you more. here's the thing. you need. 60 restaurants are more across the country. so if you own a stand-alone shop, this will not affect you. you need that amount and more if necessary to meet that threshold for $20. and our for fast food workers. here's the

thing. employers, many of them pushed back on this saying they simply cannot afford that, that they could be doing hiring freezes. they could be doing layoffs. and in worst case scenario, they will be passing along the difference to you, the customer. so i got a chance to talk to some customers this morning. here's what they had to say about possibly paying more. >> i think they need more. they work really hard, especially here at starbucks. i see them busting and i think they need a lot more. you don't have a problem paying more if necessary. i don't. i don't. i really don't. i think they deserve it. and they're hard working almost a necessity just because of the cost of living you know, i mean, these people have to live with other people and just i think it's going also be a strain on on the businesses. but i'm for it. he says he does not mind paying more if it means that they get $20 an hour. >> here's the thing. governor gavin newsom said maybe a

generation or 2 ago, many people thought he was teenagers that worked at fast food locations. but now it seems it's mostly being handled by adults the average age being 26 years or older. and those people tend to have families and they need the money to take care of their families, which is why $20 an hour is now the law of the land in california. back to you. and the north bay. there could be some traffic delays throughout all of april, part of highway 37 will be closed between solano and sonoma counties during the weekends >> of april and also going into may. so starting april, 12th caltrans, we working on one traffic direction per weekend. westbound lanes will be closed and traffic will then be diverted the weekend of april. 12th and 19th eastbound lanes be closed and traffic will be diverted the weekend of april. 26 and may 3rd. the team now for spring break week. alright, beautiful day in san francisco right

now. wow, it is so sunny and warm out there. i was here to see tell us how much longer this is going to allow the all the it does feel like spring break it because >> weve got just temperatures rocketing of blue skies out there. beautiful as we take a look downtown san francisco right now. city at 64 degrees. oakland is 61. you see some nice mid 60's and san jose livermore. 64 concord, 68 in santa rosa's already at 70 degrees at this hour. half moon bay rounding it out. >> at 61. so today, just about any time of day you go. you can take the long walk with the dog because the weather is on your side. it should be beautiful and sunny and warm. and i know all the coaches out there love that when they do get shorted on their their let's look at a month at a glance. santa rosa, for example, since we're starting our first day of april, you can see that we are a little cool. we had 19 below average days, just 10 above average days. far as rainfall is concerned. we've got to her 4 and a half just a little over 4 and a half inches of rain that's really close to right

where we should be for santa rosa. you might think, okay, great. we've had a good water year so far. if we look back to october first, a look at the percentage of normal. this looks great. word 118% inf santa rosa. you can see those numbers above 100 in san jose and also san francisco, oakland. >> about 89%. so we should be done right? well, that's so quickly, folks. we do have a little rain that's going to be in our 7 day forecast. take you through to about thursday. that looks like our next chance of showers coming in thursday into friday morning. and you do see some more serious know there, too. and then a little chance, even as we head to the last part of the weekend into monday. so what this means is that we've got gorgeous weather today tomorrow. very warm temperatures have taking berkeley's example here, clouds moving in a bit on wednesday. that's going to drop the temperatures down by thursday. some rain coming in and then we really cool it down. so it's going to be a bit of a dramatic week here with these above average numbers tomorrow, the heat will peak. it should be lovely and then we'll pull it back on wednesday and then really drop those temperatures down. once we get into thursday, some

showers expected there. notice the clouds picking up on sunday and watching out there watching out for a slight chance of rain on that day but kind of will monitor that as we get closer to it right now. it's looking pretty good. thank you. a stabbing near san francisco's whole foods has sent one man to the hospital. the stabbing happened around 9 >> at the whole foods that on ocean avenue in the city's ingleside district video from the citizens app showing us what's going on outside of the store and when police arrived, officers say they found a man with stab wounds. he is now recovering at the hospital and officers arrested a man they believe connected to this attack. but the investigation is ongoing. the family of a man hit and killed by ga truck in san jose last month is w suing the company that owns and manages the truck. the crash happened at the inonf elm street and mckendry near the san jose airport. police say the man was e street when the trucowned by green waste recovery made a turn

police say the of the truck stayed at the scene. the lawsuit alleges, t the truck did not stop at through it hit the man from ed behind and then ran over his body. san jose police are still investigating. in the east bay traffic stop. led to the discovery of more firearms in suspected fentanyl out of brentwood home brightwood special task force searched the home applewood common. police say they found 4 firearms what they believed to be fentanyl. 2 residents were detained but not arrested. the case will be forwarded to the contra costa county district attorney's office. a tip from a previous arrest. help them find the guns. santa rosa police say they caught 2 men trying to steal catalytic converters on saturday. officers say they saw 2 people near a parked truck in the naga saw a park area. one of them was underneath the truck. they say using a power tool when police approached theme they noticed the men were using a saws out tool to cut

off the truck's catalytic converter. the man who was under the truck arrested for stealing the truck and then the other person involved was later released. 18 t is alerting customers to a possible data breach impacting more than 7 and a half million people. the company says that customers pass coats were compromised. in a statement, 18 tea said they're still investigating. but right now it appears the affected data. it's from 2019. earlier. they say the data does not contain financial information. they're reaching out to current and former customers who may have been impacted. aggravated assault are reportedly rising across the state of gun violence is believed to be driving this trend according to the california department of justice, aggravated assaults went up. 28% in santa clara county from 2019 to 2022. in contra costa county assaults went up 42% within that 3 year period. an alameda county. that number was 46%.

and while incident rates in san mateo county were low compared to the others, that area saw a 65% increase. researchers say it's not known to what extent guns are fueling the increase, but they say they're a big part of the picture. other violent crimes like rape and homicide are trending down, according to data from the fbi. still ahead here at noon, a stolen truck. >> leads san leandro police on a chase. and we'll hear from the 2 men who saw this all unfold. plus, more warnings about the measles. the recommendations now from local recommendations now from local public health officials.

health officers are warning residents about the dangers of measles. they say the number of cases continues to climb in the bay area and around the world. >> measles was declared eliminated in the u.s. in the year 2000, but now making a comeback with the cdc reporting. 97 confirmed cases so far this year in 17 states including california. >> 90% of the cases that the cdc has identified nationally are are coming in are imported from travelers from from other countries. but then because it is so easily transmitted, if there are people who are not vaccinated kids or adults, that it can travel through a quite months. those people that have not yet been vaccinated. >> bay area, infectious disease experts say while some use cases could be mild can also be too hospitalization and death. measles symptoms

ntsb investigator arrived just before noon time and now their investigation is underway. >> just on the other side of these train tracks along glen shy or drive an olympic boulevard. is the area where the national transportation safety board is investigating the crash of a company dire tbm 700 airplane that went down around 6.30 last night. the truckee tahoe airports, facebook page shows this plane as being very similar to the tbm aircraft. richard manso, who lives about a block away, heard the plane just before it crashed into an air show. and you hear them revved their engines down. you're like a big. >> i like it was basically like that. and then i just heard like a. >> he says the sounds were muffled by the snow coming down at the time. there was weather last we had a little bit of snow going that visibility was bad. and when

there's snow and clouds, you don't really hear things. >> you know, as as if everything is nice and clear, kind of surreal it in a sense why why planes going over my house like that at that time of night. a spokesman for the ntsb says their investigator will begin documentation of the wreckage and crash site. >> we saw workers in orange, vast looking in and around the site. the coroner says the bodies were still inside. couldn't move them until after the ntsb arrived on scene. they say their investigation involves 3 primary areas. the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment. >> the investigator says she hopes she will soon have more information to share. the cause of the crash is being determined, but the plane went down as the pilot attempted to land at the truckee tahoe airport. neighbors say back in 1992, there was another fatal

crash in general area after plane had taken off from the airport. richard says this accident is especially tragic being that today is easter sunday. when many families are together. that's really sad that i mean, everything like that is really sad for sure. >> how was arena shadix reporting for us? a new now at noon. more issues for united airlines after a flight that left. >> frankfurt, germany for san francisco had to return to the airport after a toilet reportedly overflowed into the cabin. united spokesperson says the incident involved a maintenance issue with one of the aircraft's laboratories. passengers were accommodated in hotels in germany and then put on different flights the next day. this is just the latest in a series of mechanical and safety issues involving united airlines. on friday, another united flight francisco was diverted to denver after a reported engine issue. the man is now dead after being ejected from a car

in san francisco's valley neighborhood. the crash happened saturday morning in the area of diamond and clipper streets. this is video from the citizens app showing the car flipped over there on its roof. san francisco fire crews say the driver was ejected after hitting 3 parked cars. the man taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. in the east bay. a shelter-in-place has been lifted in san leandro after a police standoff happened saturday afternoon. san leandro police say i started just before 3 o'clock when a man allegedly stole a truck and then led police on a chase. and we spoke with 2 men who say they saw this all unfold. well, there is that. >> red truck that crashed into the tree right there. knocked over the street sign. the tow truck came and took that away. the guys down. they said it was a stolen car. >> after that, the man who police say was also caring, least one knife locked himself inside of a different car. and officer at the scene told us the man appeared to be having

some kind of but mental episode. negotiators eventually were able to talk him out and then he was taken to the hospital. berkley. police are looking for 2 people in connection to a shooting rightno. this happened just after 3 yesterday morning near the uc berkeley campus. police say one of the suspects shot at someone who interrupted th in the middle of a burglary. they say the shooter and at least one other person sped off in a dark colored car. no one was injured. and oakland man has now been sentenced for trying to traffic arms out of the port of oakland. faris abdul jan was convicted of conspiring and attempting to export defense articles to the middle east back in 2019, he acquired multiple guns with google's night vision and then tried to send those firearms and shipping containers from the port of oakland, law enforcement intervened and sees the containers and those firearms. in the south bay, a hazmat team and a bomb squad

investigated odd odor after 3 people were taken to the hospital. crews responded to an apartment building in the san jose on lee avenue right near 2.80. this was from saturday night. they have investigation forced all residents to evacuate the building. investigators say they did not find anything suspicious, but 3 people were taken to the hospital because they were experiencing some issues breathing. we're still not clear on what caused their complications. but the all clear was given and residents were allowed to return to the building a sunday morning. in the north bay, fire crews were able to rescue 3 people after car drove off the road and into a creek. this is near napa cal and use shared these photos of what happened. it happened early saturday morning off of highway 12 near the sonoma county border. and according to firefighters, 3 passengers were taken to the hospital. their conditions are not known. a former bay area contractor has pleaded not guilty to charges. he used public money to build his own apartment inside of a train station. seth andrew gordon, a

former employee of transamerica services incorporated, is accused of using taxpayer money to build living quarters inside of the millbrae trade station, san mateo county. prosecutors say ward and conspired with joseph vincent navarro, a former director for caltrans to do this caltrain employees first discovered this converted space in 2020 and then administrators learned about it in 2022. after getting an anonymous tip. these south san francisco city council held a groundbreaking over the weekend for a new state-of-the-art swimming pool of the new aquatic center at orange memorial park include 2 new pools and a revamped facility. 49 million dollars has now gone into this project. the grand opening is slated for sometime next year. to have that. polls are open today as you would want to go for a swim. here's a live look now what's going on in walnut creek, real sunny there. and the sun is just out all about

will begin at 10:00:06am, peak at 11:12am. an end by about 12:22pm. so kind of a 10:00am to 12, 30 time frame. totality viewing not possible from california. so let me show you why and where this is going to be the path of totality. you can see it rolls right through texas into parts of the heartland and then up into new england. now we will still see something. and you can see we're in that kind of 20 to 30% range. las angeles, southern california in that 40 to 50% raise. so we'll see something will notice something that just won't be as dramatic as the path of totality. let's get the plane and drive through that path of totality. so you can see where it is starting in mexico going right through texas. you can see spots like austin, waco, dallas, fort worth. they're going to be and that path of totality heading farther to the north, we go to little rock, arkansas. you'll be in the path of and then you can see as we get to places like paducah, kentucky, and then right on up bloomington and indianapolis, indiana. take you farther up now by the great lakes, cleveland, akron, ohio. they will be in it. and then as i mentioned, you know,
