outside. but here we are because the nurses, they are not happy with what's going on in terms of offer for their pay as well as they claim safety for themselves as well as the patients. it's a three-day strike. here's what you need to know. emergency services still available to you won't have a problem with that. if there's something dire that you need to be treated. but non emergency services, there's good chance that your appointment could be revoked. >> at a later time, despite having replacement nurses inside reason being they only have 1000 nurses talking 4,000 nurses not at work at valley medical center o connor in san jose as well as saint louise regional in gilroy. not to mention they getting support from 13 clinics. they are here saying yes, absolutely. they want to pay raise, but they also want to work at one place and not be rotated because of

short staffing. >> the last mediators proposal wasn't voted down by the membership because of the money. it was voted down because the county wants to be able to send us to different hospitals. and we believe that's unsafe for nurses and unsafe for our patients. it's all because the county failed to integrate the 3 hospitals together. and because of this failure to integrate, each of those hospitals have different policies and procedures. >> so it's the same thing is if you're a firefighter in san jose and the next day you work in a different city in the next day. you work in a different city. >> and they claim that's fine. but you know what? they have different policies and procedures from city to city and you're not at your best when you're not at your best. well, you can help the patients and they say they want to stay at one location. sure. there are nurses that rotate, but they say they didn't sign up for that and they would like to stay at one location. the county is offering a 10.5% pay raise over the next 3 years. the

looking for approximately 15%. no word yet on when the 2 sides will get back to the bargaining table. but if you're a patient, all you care about is when will i get to seen by my doctor? and the good news is this is only 3 days. they should be back to work early friday morning. back to you. >> thanks a lot. well. >> well, 10, 0, 4, is the time. the other big story that folks are talking about today is the fact that oakland international airport is thinking about changing and adding the words san francisco into it, which has san francisco officials. >> all in a tizzy. well, it could be confusing for one. and then there are other objections. let's go to crawford is michael thomas who's been talking to travelers at the oakland airport this morning. i'm michael. >> yeah, good morning, everyone. will the oakland airport for now, but the would be san francisco bay oakland international airport. people in san francisco are not

taking too kind to it. and i will say people here in oakland also not taking time to take a listen the possible name. change was announced last week by the port of oakland, which believes the name change could bring more travelers to open airport. adding that right now, most travelers don't realize how close open is to san francisco or that it's even in the bay area. so we asked east bay residents at oakland airport they thought it would bring more travelers and what their thoughts work. >> i think they should keep it yeah, it's located oakland point. i think i think it is incomplete because people outside of open don't know the various times also the period don't know. simmons was keeping >> right after the announcement, san francisco supervisor aaron peskin posted to x, formerly known as twitter saying imitation is the highest form of flattery. and the idea really is a neighborly sfo. officials also commented saying they didn't like the idea. the name change adding they've been using the name san francisco since the late 20's making it recognizable to travelers and adding the city named to

going on there in vegas and james. so it is the end of an error. after nearly 7 decades of operation, one of las vegas resorts shutting down at one this afternoon in just a few hours game before officially closed at 3 this morning. the resort shutting down to make way for new pro baseball stadium, which will be the new home of the a's come 2028. tropicana first opened its doors in 1957. secretly under the control of the mom, despite its ties organized crime hotels, the city's most luxurious establishment earning the nickname the prime jewel district. it went through multiple changes, ups and downs during the 7 decades early this morning tours locals tried their luck in the casino to the door. shut for good. >> i was the last i happened to the last person before they shut down all the gaming. i'm taking home. got to say that i was going to put it in my like memories booklet. but i like i think i might actually fraae it and hang up on the wall. >> tonight, i actually left a winner. i want $75.

>> all right. big until the very last. now the tropicana is set to become be completely demolished in october. send it back to both of the deaths a year. and then the question is, where are the a's going to go? because their lease at the coliseum is up right after this season. and those digs in vegas are going to take a couple years. yeah, well, they're in talks right now for an extension deal out of the coliseum. >> we'll have to wait and see what happens. but dennis shanahan takes a closer look at the process so far. >> in general, i can safely say that aaa requirements are different than major league requirements. we spoke with former miami marlins president david p sampson now host of the daily podcast. nothing personal. >> as someone who knows what it's like to run a big league team. he says sutter health park will need major upgrades if it's going to be acceptable to major league ballplayers. still, he's see sacramento as a frontrunner for landing the a's until they move to las vegas because the team plans to leave open anyway and he

says open is asking too much for a lease extension. i would say fire the president of the a's. there is not one scenario. >> under which i would be pay 97 million dollars in rent. the biggest issue that i see pace in sacramento is that where ever oakland plays there has to be union approval. if it's outside of oakland and there has to be a an agreement for some sort of tv revenue that major league baseball would have to approve because there's a calculation done for revenue sharing purposes. and the question owners will ask is how much money are we going to be giving to the a's during this quote, unquote, interim period, of course, center health park is technically in west sacramento. that city's mayor martha guerrero told fox 40 by telephone monday. she's not ready to comment until she has more information. sacramento mayor darrell steinberg sent us this statement. >> it's important for me to express my sincere hope that the a's remain in oakland. i've been consistent in my support for this from the very

beginning. >> however, i believe that sacramento has so much to offer and would be a fantastic temporary landing spot for the a's. some sports fans we met in sacramento seem to agree. i would like myself personally at a major league baseball team here. sounds fun, even temporarily even really bring him out. i grew up here and i live in the bay area. and i mean, could be the next step for them. others have mixed feelings. it's just a stopgap to stop gap for the a's. doesn't really help the a's fans. you know, there's a lot of a's fans here. >> you know, there's a lot of these fans in the bay, but it's not stopping the inevitable, which is the a's leaving this man was with his nephew who told us he's visiting from las vegas. he doesn't think the proposed site is a good place for in a stadium. know, many people who are excited about them coming to vegas. honestly. back to sampson. he still has doubts. the a's are moving to vegas at all, which i've said over and over again. and i'm alone on an island. >> on my show, nothing personal that until i see the moving trucks pull up to the

can't believe this young man was able to cling to that rock and wait for deputies from the sonoma county sheriff's office. they made it and we don't know how long he was out there, but he was clinging to a cliff side to a rock sunday night when they were able to rescue him from the golden gate, national recreation area near battery alexander. look at this. can you see him just wedged in there holding on for dear life? he fell down 50 to 60 feet from a cliff and then was wedged. there was told their feet. there's a little ding on and they were able to like. >> just release. i would have dribbled letting that left hand up like he did and then see just put up the left hand. >> grabs the rope and they hoist to safety. my gosh. amazing. and then when i got home and that's my kid on the >> ice almost 10, 15 now. so let's check in with john. find out about the weather for today's. we're taking a look here and up in this year. they're doing the snow survey today, john. in the spirit of still ahead of us, even though it has been so nice yesterday and today, this is a look at

half dome right here up in yosemite. and you can see just how high that snow is piled. we're about to get some more snow. but take a look at the latest measurements. northern part of the sierra, 118% of average snowpack. love to see that, especially after the slower start to the season that we had seen central sierra right around yosemite also doing really good as well. and we've still got more on the way, even though it won't be today. today is crystal clear from start to finish all across the bay area that low to our north is soon to displace the high pressure ridge that's in place for now. that means after such a dry, warm start to the week, some cooler wetter weather is just around the corner. timing it out tomorrow. we cool down as much as 10 degrees compared to today. see a lot of cloud cover for your wednesday by thursday. even cooler yet. and even though we have a dry morning commute on thursday, middle of the day, we'll start to see showers pushing in snowfall kicks off in the sierra starting thursday, lingering into friday making for slick roadways into the

start of this upcoming weekend. we'll get a breather on saturday before sunday night. another opportunity of some brief showers before we dry out into next week. as for today, staying dry and staying warm for yet another day. we are going to be a bit cooler at the coastline today. you have an increased cool ocean breeze, which does keep temperatures at the coast just a little cooler than yesterday. elsewhere in the bay area, though we're talking a lot of 70's campbell and san jose each getting up to 77 degrees. some of your warmer spots. fremont at 74 today, oakland up to richmond in the upper 60's while conquered pittsburgh in antioch, each right at 76 degrees today. looking ahead, temperatures tomorrow will like i said around 10 degrees cooler in some spots only in the upper 50's that are very warmest by those cold showers back to you. >> thank you, john. 10 16 right now in east bay city leaders are talking about a large crowds. they've been gathering for sideshows. we just showed you what happened over the weekend. yeah, absolutely. jamming some

intersections for those who live in the area. they say it's been wreaking havoc. >> city leaders issuing a warning out of people who are breaking the law. kron four's terisa stasio has more. >> and as i've said before and i'll say it again and don't come to with these types of activities. >> that is and mayor lamar thorpe speaking bluntly about this recent sideshow taking over a city street, hundreds gathered blocking the intersection of lone tree way and golf course road at one point. spectators shot off rounds of fireworks. >> guess what? if you come here with this nonsense, you're going to be held accountable and you're going to regret coming here because we do have the technology. it's not just foot soldiers on the ground that we can send out. we have technology like drones. we captured a your license plate. we're going to show up at your house one day and we're going to tell your car and then we're going to find you. in most cases, it's going to be very upset. parents weren't happy with the with police chief. >> the side show in antioch,

just one of many this past weekend. this was the scene at 51st street and telegraph in the temescal neighborhood in oakland. also in oakland, on burma, road opd responded to a hit and run following the sideshow and near hercules just off of franklin canyon road near the golf course. driver spun donuts and set off fireworks over some for most of those are having the >> it's really disappointing that a lot of these lot of these actions of what into communities that are putting communities in a position where they're in harm's way. alex walker griffin is a hercules city councilmember. he says that the city has taken proactive steps. the blunt sideshows, cause is making sure that we can maintain our same city as we have really is the program flock cameras. it's a series of cameras that are placing entrance and exit of intersections that we have here in town. and really what they do is they read license plates were not going after the average person. we have these cameras. we're going after those who have maybe storm a car or somebody with

an outstanding warrant that needs to be held accountable. that's one way that we're doing to the flock. cameras have been outstanding for. so if get recovery in the city. >> oakland recently passed a new ordinance that toughens illegal steps that they can take against those involved in sideshows. we reached out to the oakland police department about the sideshows this past weekend. they said that they made 2 arrests. in the newsroom. theresa kron, 4 news. >> to 19 is the time. and it looks like road improvements in san francisco's presidio have made things much safer for a bicyclist. and some of those changes include the installation of speed cushions and rumble strips. they also narrowed the car lanes to provide more space for cyclist and then stalled road signs to alerting drivers of the fact that they share the road and to be careful. and according to the latest data, 85% of cars are now traveling at slower speeds. a long-term improvement plan in the presidio is set to begin later in the summer. san francisco,

by the way, is offering affordable housing to educators. applications open today for the shirley chisholm village. the housing project is set to have 135 affordable homes and will prioritize san francisco unified employees. it's expected to open up in the fall. >> it's 10, 20 and a big story for your money. as we reported yesterday started the new price hike for fast food workers work in california to get a raise. now the minimum is $20 an hour. a lot of employees are thrilled, but some employee years alike, vitality bowls, businesses are worried about how they're going to make that up. and if they can make it all the owner of vitality 2 locations in san jose says it's going to be challenging. >> well, definitely, you know, we're going to have to increase prices to cover the cost. real possibilities cutting hours for my employees, which is that good. and also possibly layoffs for

small business. you know, weise is minds of the family business. i have my wife, 2 sons. and basically, you know, there's a potential if things don't improve with the higher prices that customers stop coming in, that we will shut down and, you know, then basically people jobs. >> fast food restaurants in california have to pay their workers a minimum of $20 an hour if it's a chain and there's 100 spots in the country in u.s. or if it's a franchise, if their 16 locations in u.s., then those owners have to meet that minimum. a jack in the box worker we talked to in spanish says that she has had a very tough time paying for the basics in california on her way to. so she's happy to get this raise. >> it's more tell you a little bit. it's going to really be a relief for me because things continue to go gas food, clothing expenses. and as i

mentioned, helped write my son to with all of those expenses. and so this is going to be a huge relief for for me and my family. >> now, not our only are restaurants. >> exempt from this. that doesn't apply to them for the also, there's exemptions for restaurants that are located in airports, museums, hotels, theme parks, gambling, restaurant and event centers and as well, there is exemption. if it's you bake your own bread and sell your own bread. so like a bakery, they don't have to pay the $20 minimum either. >> well, coming up on the kron 4 morning news, the biden administration is putting some new restrictions on short-term health. insurance plans will

>> 25 and voters in sonoma county are going to see on the ballot whether they want to restrict the size of animal farms. animal rights activists and environmentalist said gathered more than 19,000 signatures to get this measure on the ballot. the initiative calls for a 3 year phase out of large-scale concentrated animal feeding operations. the ordinance would affect 2 dozen sites that make up about 2% of animal farms and the county. but those against the measure say that actually it's counter intuitive. they say it would increase greenhouse emissions in the area and increased prices there would be meat imported, dairy and eggs imported from other sources. it wouldn't be as readily available locally. a newly proposed state bill would give workers in california on interrupted personal and family time. so this means that when you're off the clock, you're off the clock.

beaten called 9-1-1. the concern neighbor came down to check on her. and apparently the fight began because she was in her car and the girls were looking inside of her car. and she said, what are you? why are you looking in my car? sfpd says officers found a woman matching the description of the attacker 3 blocks away. they arrested a 24 year-old woman from fairfield for aggravated assault shot will street. it is has a problem with work. but i'm not used to seeing it during the day. so that was surprising. i was horrified, but i wasn't surprised. this is something where if you've been listening to the neighborhood you've been hearing about this weekly. >> trevor chandler lives in the neighborhood. he's running for supervisor in this district in says ever since street to prevent work. the business has come to shot. well, street chandler says he believes fully staffing. the police department is the answer for says we actually have true penalties for the johns and the pimps that are doing this because we are so

understaffed and our police department. we don't have the coverage to fully staff are human trafficking and trafficking divisions. >> was sara stinson reporting and there's a position going around out a license plate readers and that neighborhood to try to how we did reach out to supervisor hillary ronen as well for comment. but we haven't heard back. >> well, new this morning, a federal discrimination lawsuit filed against tesla is allowed to proceed to court. it's related to accusations of racism against employees at their fremont plant, a crop or in our view here in studio to explain dorian james. so tesla pace in a racial discrimination laws the equal employment opportunity commission. the oc accusing tests of severe racial harassment of their black employees at the fremont manufacturing plant. so on friday, a federal judge gave the elc the green light to proceed with that lawsuit. and i'll joins 2 other suits filed in alameda county. also related to llegations of racially hostile work environment at the factory. the oc says non black managers

and employees repeatedly use the n word to address black employees. tesla tried to dismiss the case on crowds. this recent lawsuit copy the alameda county ones and accuse the elc of rushing to complete their investigation without even visiting the fremont plant. we're requesting to interview plant managers. the judge presiding over the case. it while the ios he's case overlap with the alameda county cases, the cases were not the same. the next step is an initial case. management conference. it's going to be held on zoom. that's on may 9th. i'll send it back to both of the care thank you 10. 33 is the time. also in tesla news, we have a trial involving the company set to begin next week in a case where a 2 year-old toddler was behind the wheel. >> a south bay woman filed this lawsuit. she was 8 months pregnant at the time of the crash. this was back in 2018. she says the tesla that she owned was parked in their driveway when her son crawled into the driver's seat and somehow turned the car on. she says he then crashed into

yesterday here on the kron 4 morning news, they rallied outside of uber and lyft headquarters in san francisco. they say that they're getting low pay high fees and they have dangerous working conditions and they think that the companies are making it hard for them to earn a living. >> a lot of the drivers sleep in the car to come from far away from sacramento and they're homeless in their cars. so what humanity is that to someone have to sleep in the car to be able to provide r their families. >> we asked the companies to comment and years would lift had to say that they're constantly working to improve driver experience, which is why for the in february, they released a series of new offers and commitments aimed at increasing driver pay and transparency. as for uber, they haven't gotten back to us. >> 10 35 is the time and state lawmakers have introduced a package of bills that they say will help prevent discrimination and harassment at california universities. among the proposals is a bill calling on each university to set up a campus title 9 office

to investigate claims of harassment. another bill would require the state auditor to review university discrimination and harassment policies at both the csu. and you see and community college system every 3 years. >> it is our responsibility to get out in front to learn from the past and to create the kinds of reforms that will improve the environment on our campuses, ensuring that our hearts cason institutions are free from. >> discrimination and harassment. it's critical to providing an equitable learning environment for our students and they safe work environment for our staff. >> will the bills right now are headed to various committees where, though each come up for hearing on their own will keep following him. well, there will soon be new restrictions on how long you can have a short-term health care insurance plan. kron four's catherine heenan breaks down exactly what that means.

>> crack down junk health insurance. the biden administration has just finalized plans to limit short-term health insurance plans. 2, 3, months with the option for a one-month renewal. this is a big u-turn on trump era policy that allowed people to have those plans for up to 4 years. last administration took that provision which is very narrow. >> for a limited emergency coverage and made a loophole. so maybe the the white house is spending the move as a way to protect consumers, arguing that short term plans do not offer comprehensive care. they're being told that you can pay this incredibly low pricing, a good insurance, but it turns out it's not. but turns, in fact, is not really insurance at all. but critics say the biden administration just wants people to stick with it. >> on brand of affordable care saying it is taking away consumer choices and creating another problem. >> creates gaps in health insurance. some health policy experts are calling the rule change.
