goodbye to a professional sports team. the a's are officially out and after the team and the city of oakland could not reach an agreement to extend the a lease at the coliseum. the athletics are moving kron 4 soon to call reports. the team announced it has reached a deal to play their home games at sutter health park in west sacramento. after the end of the season. >> oakland's loss is sacramento's game. turns out this season in the town is a farewell tour for the oakland athletics. during a news conference here at sutter health park in west sacramento. thursday, a stoner jon fisher in sacramento, kings owner vivek ranadive a celebrating their deal to bring the a's to the state capitol run a guy that owns the river cats in the minor league team. the san francisco giants affiliate will now share their park with the a's at the end of this season, the park will host the a's for 3 seasons starting in 2025. with an option for a 4th. this ahead of the team's planned move to las vegas in 2028, all

of this happening before the a's have even broken ground on their stadium in nevada a guy they excited about this opportunity to prove sacramento is a viable city for a major league baseball team. when i bought the kings over 10 years ago. i said >> that sacramento would never play. second fatal. any other city in the world. and the success of golden one center has proven that this vision can be a mecca for sports. want to extend my my thanks to. >> to not only good friend. a great business person. great associate. and for helping make this day possible. the a's will also not be taking the town's name with them. so after this season, the oakland athletics will simply be called. >> the athletics or a's. in west sacramento, philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> today during kron, 4 news

at noon, a sports executive consult and a consultant who worked for the a's for the past 15 years joined us to offer some perspective about what happened today. he explains the bitter taste that this leaves behind. >> how did we lose? the warriors? how did we the oakland raiders? how are we losing the oakland a's? no major american city lost 3 mar professional sports teams in such a short period of time. this is going to keep smashing into the side of the hearts minds and souls of days stands for years to come. but coliseum was the last town square left in open that people of all backgrounds could get together and celebrate their sports change. and now it is going to be a quiet location. >> the athletics have called oakland home since 1968. and while the team has proposed moving in the past, this will be the first time a move will actually take place in 2014, signed a 10 year lease to

remain at the coliseum. then a 2018 the a's announced a plan for a ballpark at howard terminal by 2021. with no ballpark plan in place. major league baseball permitted the a's to start exploring relocation in 2023. the a's reached a deal to move to a site at the tropicana in las vegas along the strip there in the mlb owners that approve that move. the tropicana is set for implosion later on this year in order to build that major league baseball park with that stadium. not set, though, to open until at least 2028. the team has been searching for a place to play when the current lease at the coliseum ence at the end of this season. and so now we know that will be in west sacramento. oakland mayor sheng thao responding to the a's decision to leave her town for sac town saying, quote, open offered a deal that was fair to the a's and was fiscally responsible for our city. we wish the a's the best will continue our conversations with them on facilitating the sale of their share of the coliseum site.

the city of oakland will now focus and advancing redevelopment efforts at the coliseum. and the move, though, does follow a number protests that called for new ownership in order to keep the a's in oakland member, those cell situations that could happening at the game. the river spoke cots because this is not the first time that a major league sports team has moved out of oakland. the raiders relocated to las vegas in 2020 and the golden state warriors moved out of oracle arena 2019. they headed over to chase center in san francisco. as fans are saddened but not surprised. >> for him to go and help facilitate this for the ace leave oakland faster than what they were expected to be a. it's very disheartening. and and made point. >> i mean, really, there's there's only one person who's to blame for this. this this process that can only certain be described as just symbolic. and that's john fisher. didn't matter what the offer was going to be. >> jon fisher and mlb. nothing

the free kron 4 app to get push alerts sent directly to your mobile device. see, you can find out exactly when news breaks. snow falling on mount tam this morning, our camera capturing all of that white stuff. we can blew blow out alive there just a few minutes. we can see what's happening at this hour. but first, we want to give you a look at the wet weather that has returned to the bay area because this is what it looked like in the north bay this morning as rain began to fall in sandra fell, there were early reports of strong wind gusts as well. so we'll take a live look now at what's happening from on top of mount tam. haha, a little over now to kyla snow. i can't believe it. >> well, we talked yesterday about how cold this system was going to be right. and it's certainly to live or this morning. in fact, still a lot of cold air rushing in right now around this low pressure system. it wraps around it and then it shoots it straight into california right now. a lot of that action is headed into the sierra where you can see some of that snow is falling at a very heavy pace right now. but we still are

very unsettled and we're chilly out there to see. as we zoom in, you can see, you know, you look into the santa cruz mountains. we still got a little frozen precipitation happening there. also in and around down hamilton. and you can see just to the east of morgan hill, we've got a little bit there as well. so we're going to be with this for the next about 24 hours before finally do with it completely. right now. san francisco getting a break. the east bay, just a few sprinkles out there. the north bay now seeing a little bit more through nevado and into parts of petaluma as well and can look at this to the east of look at those hills, right. if you're up in the north bay and santa rosa petaluma, you might see a snowflake or 2. it's entirely possible because of the cold air that's out there. obviously big fluffy clouds still very much around. but we're seeing a little bit of blue breakthrough. this is what we've gotten so far in our rain totals, about half an inch in the santa cruz mountains. orinda though close to half an inch as well. close to 4 tenths in oakland, san francisco over quarter. just under that in santa rosa and about 2 tenths in mountain view hasn't really been about the rain, right? it's been about the cold also we're

getting breezy again this afternoon. so we're going to start to feel that kind mixing in with all of that cold air that is around. here's how chilly it is. we're still at 47 degrees of late. how 40 heinen napa right now. 52 in downtown san francisco. a little bit warmer in san jose coming in at about 56 degrees. but even so this is the difference in temperatures between 24 hours ago. and now if you're in fairfield, that's a 15 degree drop. when i come back, we will chart this hour by hour and show you when it finally wraps up. and when we start to warm up. sounds good because there's snow in april as our storm coverage continues right now with kron four's terisa stasio. she caught up with people. >> so she could get their take on this winter weather in spring. she's live for us now near mount tam to recent looks like the scene has changed. the sun is out now. >> the sun is out, but you never know what it's going to change because it's been flipping and flopping all day long. but on this day of april 4th, it's really not the rain or the sun. that's really at

issue here. it is the snow that really set today apart. early this morning, soft beautiful snow fell on mount tam, a pious. >> at 2500 feet elevation. it was that cold at the higher mountain peaks to turn the rain into flurries. the snowfall didn't last long. but for those out on the mountain, the brisk temperatures were magical. beautiful known was out. there's a soft. >> i'm like single track running and just beautiful trees. love these friends just back from a windy run through the woods. whereas one didn't mind the wet conditions. another not so much normally at this time. is it sunny and we are sick of look at my haha. so you don't walk. they like today. so >> we tried different venues for john, what slur he was trying to capitalize on the small fraction of clear weather in the day taking his dog dart out.

>> who didn't seem pleased with the rain this late in the season. are you surprised that we are getting so much rain this morning? and that's and more because there's no such thing as normal anymore. absolutely not. >> to be fair, just i think that the dog dart didn't like my camera. so i think i was actually spooking the dog with my camera and it wasn't particularly rain. but we're out here at the mill valley dog park. and you can see everybody is out and about walking and enjoying this break in the weather. back to theresa, thank you so much. starting at 7 o'clock tonight, 2 eastbound lanes of the richmond, sandra fell bridge will close for repairs on the lower deck. >> the lanes are expected to reopen at 05:00am. more closures are expected tomorrow as well. caltrans says the exact duration of the work depends on the weather. coming up here, another big name joining the race for san francisco mayor will take a

>> we continue to track the rainfall touching down across the bay area today. here's a live look now at the radars. we could see where it's raining at this moment. kyl will join us in just a few minutes with our full forecast. we can find out when this storm system is going to stop. we do have new video

right now that captured the moment. a 7.4 magnitude earthquake triggered a landslide in taiwan. you can see here the rocks dirt falling down the cliff onto a highway. >> that's right on the coast where this quake originated, according to officials, the quake and the aftershocks have caused at least 2 dozen landslides, damage, roads, bridges, and talk tunnels and now 10 people at could. 10 people have been confirmed dead following this deadly 7.4 earthquake in taiwan. the strongest quake there. 25 years more than 1000 others were injured with dozens of people still missing. workers are using an excavator to put construction materials around the base of damage buildings to stabilize them and prevent them from collapsing. the powerful quake hit wednesday morning in taiwan and one survivor just arrived at sfo and shared his experience. >> it comes just a there is

because it's not done yet. so here's the thing. my advice is don't trusted rate. you might look outside right now be like, okay. the sun's out, we're done. don't trust it because we are not quite done yet. having said that, we are definitely catching a little break right now. you can see little half moon bay a little bit in san francisco, but you see those big, fluffy clouds out there and those big fluffy clouds are capable of producing rain. and they certainly are in some spots. in fact, the north bay just had a little bit roll across right there in petaluma. and sandra fell a little bit headed your way in santa rosa. and just to kind of put a point on the fact that it's still very chilly out there. you see that purple, that blue. those are snowflakes trying to get going in some of the hills in the north bay there. so we're still very chilly and somewhat active. so just some breaks coming. but as i mentioned, don't trust it because until this low pressure system really spends away, we're going to be left to some of the remnants of this and that will go throughout today and tomorrow. but by this time tomorrow, we should be in a very different situation. so just to take you

hour by hour to show you what i'm talking about here, this is about 5.30. so this is your rush hour. some of these downpours could come quickly and then move out quickly, but they could be heavy at times. so this is about 8 o'clock notice that cold air rushing in again towards mount hamilton that we could see a few more snowflakes falling as we get into this evening and the temperatures start falling again. now take you into tomorrow morning. obviously, there's a little this kind of showing up offshore, but it's just to say that we're unsettled tomorrow, even though we should start to get a little bit less than the morning. but in the afternoon, expecting a line to come through and some of these could have about 10 20% chance of having a thunderstorm cell in them. and once that wraps up and it's done, it's done him that we're looking good. this is what got left to pick up rain wise to between about a 10th and maybe a quarter of an inch a little bit higher, perhaps or some my south bay spots who are going get the tail end of the system as it pulls away. temperatures chilly today, chilly tomorrow, but then check out where we're using berkeley as an example here. but that's just one example because of the 7 day forecast. you can see we are all going to be warming up.

lots of sunshine next week. a very big pattern shift. it's like our april fools brought us the cold spring and they're going to get the warm spring get into next week. right? well, protesters blocked the entrance to the lockheed martin research facility. and sunny bell this morning. more than 135 protesters. >> keeping workers from getting inside for about 5 hours. they say that lockheed martin is the world's largest maker, that supplies fighter jets and missiles to israel. no one was arrested today president joe biden held a phone call with the israeli prime minister. it's their first call since israel had its forces strike and kill 7 world central kitchen workers attempting to deliver food and gaza. our washington, d.c., correspondent raquel martin reports now with the latest. tensions between the 2 leaders have been increasing for weeks. and today president biden appeared to sharpen his tone with prime minister

netanyahu. >> he is demanding israel take immediate steps to reduce human suffering in gaza. president biden told israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu that the israeli air strike that killed the world central kitchen workers was unacceptable and the overall humanitarian situation in gaza. >> are unacceptable. white house spokesperson john kirby says the president demanded that israel will take immediate steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering and the safety of aid workers in coming hours and days. we will be looking for concrete, tangible steps if we don't see changes from their side, don't have to be changes from our side. the president pressed israel for an immediate cease-fire, but the white house would not say if it would withhold military aid if israel does not meet us demand. this week's horrific attack was not the first such incident. it must be the last at a nato meeting in brussels. secretary of state antony

blinken said israel must allow more humanitarian aid into gaza results on the ground. are woefully insufficient since the attack. the world central kitchen and other charities have suspended food deliveries to gaza world central kitchen founder jose andres is demanding an independent investigation of the attack. they are strikes in our convoy. >> i don't thing we're and unfortunately state it was really a direct attack on that. clearly marked vehicles. >> right now, israel is investigating the strike and so far prime minister netanyahu has not released a statement responding to the call with president biden. we're now in washington, raquel martin, back to you. >> still ahead, small businesses in oakland targeted by and now owners are calling on officials to do something about the ongoing crime. and a former stanford professor files a lawsuit against the university. why he says school leaders violated personnel leaders violated personnel policy.

>> kron four's your local election headquarters in san francisco board of supervisors president aaron peskin plans now to run for mayor. he's planning to file paperwork tomorrow morning at officially announce his run at an event on saturday. supervisor peskin currently serves as the president of the board of supervisors and has been on the board on and off since the early 2. thousands when past and does officially join the race. he'll be joining incumbent mayor london breed supervisor ahsha safa iif lamppost. daniel lurie and former san francisco mayor and supervisor mark farrell.

senator alex padilla and oakland congresswoman barbara lee took a tour of a part of the port of oakland near the hydrogen projects this morning. this is coming after padilla and lee secured more than a billion dollars for more renewable clean hydrogen across the state last october. the point of this meeting is so that the lawmakers can learn about how the port of oakland is working to improve air quality and support the state's workforce with a green jobs. a former lecturer at stanford university has now filed a lawsuit against the school, a student and a fellow professor. the law firm representing amir locke and says he was suspended and then fired following a classroom lecture about the conflict between israel, hamas. that lecture came 3 days after hamas gunmen ambushed the music festival and killed 1200 people. students complained about the lecture and watkins was accused of anti-semitism. he was suspended and his contract which expired on monday was not renewed. the complaint alleges stanford

at the end of the season, they will play at sutter health park in west sacramento, starting in 2025. >> this move, though, just temporary as the team does still have its sights set on eventual move to las vegas during crawford is at noon. a farmer is executive. explain what that could mean >> if in fact the team does relocate to las vegas sports. economists believe that it will be worth 2.4 billion dollars and major league baseball through the commissioner. rob manfred has said that as soon as the a's are playing a new ballpark or it's under way and tampa is got a ballpark that they're planning. then we major league baseball will expand by 2 additional franchises, each one of them having to ante up to 0.2 billion dollars just to get into the next step. 4.4 billion which gets split amongst baseball and its 30 teams.

>> when asked let's say there is a chance that the 8 of a's could wind up back in oakland. a hard time even saying all right. spend a day. fridays fans aren't beautiful outside here. looking out towards the golden gate bridge. kyle is tracking the forecast for us now. where is all that's now? this is 70 this is half down. we can't see it right now. but this just been piling up with snow here. parts of the sierra take you back to mount tam here locally. obviously we're calm. this is where we saw some snow flying earlier this morning. not to the tune of all the piles that you're seeing at yosemite. and then we've had some kind of light snow here as well. a diamond peak. we see a few people still out there making the best of it is chilly out there, though. 31 degrees right now is south lake tahoe. you can see the wind is up to about 10 miles per hour, too. so little chilly and the snowmaking is certainly happening. you can see the winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories that are throughout the state. and if you look up into parts of lake county, mendocino county, they are under that until

11:00pm ton%ght. and then you head to tahoe and that one goes until 11:00pm on friday. still expecting an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow. but the peaks we could see even higher than that of a foot and a half to 2 feet. so it means that they're going to be difficult travel. probably don't want to be heading up there right now. and i'll show you why this is future cast here. as we look through. you can see the snow is set to fall throughout the night and then you see that low pressure system kind of spinning around and you start to see that cold air being wrapped and again tonight in parts of the bay area could see a few snowflakes. tomorrow is a very unsettled day. and in the afternoon, another line of storms set to roll through the bay area and that snow will eventually taper off and the system just drops to the south of us and heads away and then we are done. but before we're done, we still have a quite a bit of sierra snow to pick up here. you can see where some of those bare totals down in and around mammoth lake. they could get up to 2 feet of snow spring snowstorm. meanwhile, out at sfo, i want to you, i've been looking at some of the delays out there and they have had a bit we up to our delays for incoming flights that has to do with the fact

that we get whether they can only use one runway sometimes because they're having some construction of one of the other ones after we get past tomorrow, we're going to be looking at a warm-up and a pretty nice weekend. i'll have details coming up. >> all right. now to the east bay with the city of antioch is taking new measures to stop dangerous driving stunts from taking place. the mayor says a new electric gates will be going up at the marina. it will close at night to stop cars trying to take part and sideshows. so this is the scene in august when a car involved in a sideshow flipped into the water and just landed there into any oxbow dock. and just this past weekend, more than 200 people showed up at a sideshow at lone tree way and golf course drive. the city council voted on tuesday to get that gate. the mayor says recent police department scandals have hurt the city's efforts to stop shied side shows. but those days are in the rearview mirror. >> and when the police levels were impacted by fbi investigation, we lost optimism. so that certainly

had that it felt like that. we just opened the gates to sideshows here but were quickly stepping up. we've got 6 officers in the academy 12 that will be entering the academy made our proactive efforts are are much more important having police officers dedicated to finding. >> sitting down sideshows are organized that have been most affected. >> in the most recent sideshow, police drones did capture license plates of the cars involved. the mayor says the city will be following up and seeking to toe those cars and find the drivers. also, an antioch polpce are looking for thieves connected to a carjacking that took place near the kaiser permanente medical center. officers say the driver was confronted by the suspects before the. car drove away. it happened tuesday afternoon on sand creek road. according to police, they found the stolen card in nearby neighborhood. no arrests have been made. this is coming as the kaiser permanente oakland partnered

up with other businesses to provide private security guards for workers last month, a kaiser nurse reported a similar crime. she says her car was stolen right in front of her after her shift ended and she was just trying to get home. the city of pittsburgh is taking action to combat illegal dumping throughout the city. the city council approved to increase the fine to $1000. the city will also use license plate readers to track down per city officials are saying they spend $100,000 every year to clean up illegally dumped debris, including mattresses, couches, sofas. this new measure goes into effect april 18th. and frustration is mounting for small business owners in oakland's fruitvale district after several shops in the public market were burglarized this week. kron four's dan thorn spoke with those local business owners. >> at least for small businesses in oakland's fruitvale public market hit by burglars this week. oakland

police say 2 unknown intruders ransacked offices and stole cash and computers from a bakery jewelry store, ice cream shop and electronics repair service. it's super frustrating to see these these folks. you know. >> working every day. the frustration they have. >> and to have something like this happen, it's really disheartening. >> business owner dominic prado says his restaurant tacos, el al ballet was spared. but the public market is a tight-knit community and crimes like these are a shared pain. they deserve better. we deserve better. >> many of these business owners have been there for over. 25 years. the nonprofit unity council owns the public market. >> they say despite investing more than a million dollars in security, it has not been enough. we're asking for local regional and federal support so that we can be whole again. prado argues the unity council could also be doing more to help the public markets. merchants. he says the

organization has failed to make good on improving safety. we've asked what cameras us for a number of things. last year we were faced with job. >> there was a lot of shootings in the area. >> both sides have clashed over the response to crime at the market. but they also agree that outside help is needed to protect these businesses, the support they get also help preserve the neighborhoods. culture i can. the prime will always be here. i think we're we're never going to be out out. the red from crying. but i think with that the city to sizable commitment to investing in his neighborhood. >> that was dan thorn reporting for oakland police say they have not made any arrest from tuesday's morning's burglary. is they're asking anyone with information to give them a call. all charges have been dropped against a san francisco sheriff's department oversight board member who was arrested for assault. william parma was arrested and charged with assault and has been in jail since november. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins says the charges were

dropped after new evidence came to light about the alleged victim's credibility palmer has always maintained his innocence. alright, screams there from a woman in valais host who says she was the victim of a robbery she shared with us this dash cam video while she was waiting at a red light on snowmen boulevard and tennessee street. she says she was listening to music. some of them pulled up next to her smash window and tried to take her belongings after resisting. she says the attacker took off. we reached out to vallejo police about this video, but so far have not heard back. and there's a bill that is are resonating with a lot of california workers today. assembly member matt haney has a proposal to give employees the right to disconnect. so this will allow them to ignore texts and calls from their bosses after hours. kron four's catherine heenan tells us how this would work. assemblyman matt haney says

of it is now rain in the mid atlantic, but still a nice spring storm, right? a wintry spring storm. we're having the same here as this low pressure system continues to churn along the west coast, throwing that snow towards the sierra, but even bringing some pockets of snowflakes a little close to home like on mount tam or say down in state spots like mount hamilton and even in the santa cruz mountains. so as we zoom in here, you can see where the showers rolling across the north bay right getting a little bit of a break in san francisco, but as i mentioned, this is not the time to trust that the weather is done, right? because what take that umbrella in case you get caught in one of these downpours. also look at this cold air that is right in and around clear lake in and around cloverdale. that is showing you that up at some of the the mountains there. we're starting to get more snowflakes as we start to see these temperatures go down again as we roll through our afternoon and then, you know, start getting into our evening. so also some lightning happening with some of these storms that are closer to sacramento. and you can see down in san jose, we just had a little shower roll through. this is the part where we could get a little
