app show. lot of flames shooting out of 2 windows on the second floor there. good evening. thanks for being with us tonight on kron. 4 news at 11, i'm grant lotus and i'm noelle bellow, san francisco. firefighters say it was first reported around 07:40pm, tonight. one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. the fire department sharing this video from the scene after. >> those flames were put out saying it cause some serious damage to the building. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. officials say the house was supposed to be vacant, but firefighters did find evidence of squatting and hoarding. however, no one was inside at the time of the fire. >> police in the east bay are investigating a major crash on the ashby avenue on-ramp to eastbound 80 in berkeley calls came into 9-1-1. reporting the card been shot at by somebody in a different car just before it crashed. the chp is leading the investigation. here will bring you more details as soon as we learn them. >> in san francisco man was

shot and killed in the middle of the day in the mission. it happened around one 30 this afternoon near the intersection of mission and 20th citizen app. video of the scene shows a heavy police presence there. police say the man was pronounced dead at the scene. no arrests have been made investigation into what led up to the shooting is ongoing. >> a san francisco restaurant owner is planning to go on a hunger strike for a month. he says over a bike lane that he claims is costing him his livelihood. this bike lane running through the middle of valencia street was first put in place in august as part of a pilot project. city officials have said the goal is to improve safety for cyclists, but a lot of business owners on valencia street say the bike lane has cost them so many parking spots as well as parklets and, you know, just cut into their business. one of these is ad at a well who owns a middle eastern restaurant, yasmin. he says the hunger strike is is only way to really get his voice heard.

either. and we've had some very interesting weather around the bay area. >> thunderstorms popping up this afternoon. things begin to quiet down out the door right now. in fact, your skies begin to part the clouds are moving out. looks like now we've got that cold arctic air kind of settling in. we're getting ready for the big chill overnight tonight as these temperatures really going to be dropping off. in fact, already look at numbers in the 40's in the 50's, some of the north bay valleys. stick into the 30's already. so getting cold in spots tonight. frost advisories are going up around the bay area in the north bay and the east bay all the way from healdsburg through sent a saline all the way down to napa and the east bay from orinda to live aboard a seminole to antioch. you're looking at some very cold temperatures early tomorrow morning and likely going to be dealing with frost to start out your saturday. so, yeah, kind of unusual for april, but that's been unusual pattern right now. overnight lows. 33 degrees in santa rosa. 36 in livermore. 39 in concord got a lot of 40's inside the bay. but after that, we're going to get ready for a big warm up.

we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. all right. thanks, lawrence. a developing story now. 2 lawsuits have been filed against the owners of the half moon bay mushroom farms where 7 people were killed and one person was hurt. 24 year-old pedro perez was shot 5 times but survives in that mass shooting. >> that was january of last year. his older brother jose did not survive it. pedro jose's family now filed the suit against california terra gardens and its owners accusing them of failing to take reasonable steps to protect their tenants from violent acts. the lawsuit alleges the accused shooter truly zhao had a documented history of violence in the farm did little to ensure workers safety outside the courtroom. pedro perez says he's still in disbelief over what happened. >> i i came here for a better life to helping family. and

they told me that there were jobs here at this farm. we would come together and we would go to store. we were inseparable. always thinking about him. always thinking about him. and i just. >> don't understand. how this happened. >> not only did california terra gardens violate those rights by providing squalid living conditions for the farm workers that they violated rights by not providing a place where their tenants felt safe. in california landlords all the way more temperate duty to protect their tenants for the criminal acts of people who come out of the property. and california. terra guards did nothing to protect, came through or his brother more. the other victims of that shooting. >> jose perez leaves behind a wife and 4 children in mexico. the suspect has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him showers next. court appearance is scheduled for later this month.

>> san jose has launched a program using artificial intelligence to detect unhoused people. today mayor matt mahan explained how it works. >> and we have one car. we've got outfitted with a half dozen cameras were just beginning to test this one of the things we found we actually didn't set out initially to do this. we're really focused on potholes and graffiti to start. is that these cameras are pretty effective at identifying when people are living in vehicles. this is on road only. we're actually not focused on tent encampments with this pilot. but on on roads were able to figure out when people are living in their car rv, it. >> city officials say the technology is being used to better provide services for those in need homeless advocates, however, are worried this will be used to push the on house out. >> any space city will be celebrating the 4th of july without its official fireworks show this year. livermore city leaders say the decision comes

simply because there were too many people that have been showing up and really put a strain on city resources are now offering a new way for residents to celebrate independence day. kron four's dan thorn. >> has more. >> livermore city leaders say they're not going to be doing a 4th of july fireworks show at night this year after thousands of people showed up last year and essentially took over the city. instead, they're proposing some daytime events that are targeted more towards the local community and some livermore residents we caught up with say they thought the influx will be good for the city and not having 4th of july fireworks just isn't the same. the 4th of july fireworks have fizzled out in livermore in a video shared on facebook. the city says after more than 12,000 people showed up last year, neither it nor the livermore area recreation park district can handle the influx this year. >> our events growing popularity has made it clear that the city or l a r p d simply do not have the

resources or infrastructure such as roadways and parking to ensure safe family event that our community can access. city manager mary anne marie siobhan also pointed out that last year, more than half of those people who came for the event were not from livermore. >> the flood of visitors took over neighborhoods and traffic was snarled with people trying to find parking police chief jeremy young says with streets being clogged, it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles to get around. additionally, there was a high level of frustration. >> from those stuck in traffic and those who live in the areas impacted by the crowds. some livermore residents say they were surprised by the city canceling the fireworks show. they figure the city would want a lot of people to come. >> what would you not want to bring people things to the city here and have make more money off? why would they business in town? >> the other issue for some is not celebrating independence day with fireworks at night.

trademarks for both the sacramento a's and the sacramento athletics. while that should come as no surprise, what might surprise you. it's who applied for the las vegas athletics. trademark kron four's dan kerman reports. >> i just want to say we're excited to be here for the next 3 years as the a's were announcing thursday, they would play the next 3 seasons in sacramento, the u.s. patent and trademark swept sideshows. they were also applying for the trademarks to both. >> the sacramento ways and the sacramento athletics. but that website also shows back on march 6th, someone applied for the trademark las vegas athletics and it wasn't the a's. for it. d let's fa so we filed a new one. i got accepted. now it's in processing. so last hopefully within 5 months will be the owners of the last of las vegas athletics. you heard that correctly a's fan group, the last dive bar. one of a's

>> treat is official closing date has yet to be announced. >> a live look at sfo right now where last night a united airlines plane parking at a gate clipped wings with another united plane united says no passengers were injured and everyone was deplaned as normal. but this does mark the latest in a series of mishaps involving united flights, many of which have happened at sfo early last month. your member, a united flight from sfo headed to japan, lost a wheel during takeoff and had to divert to los angeles earlier this week, a united flight bound for sfo from germany was forced to return to the airport due to a toilet overflowing into the cabin. no whether time here as we get a live look at san francisco, by the way. >> interstate in the grapevine

headed to southern california, closed in both directions north and southbound because of snow and ice. they're about 1500 feet at the top. the chp says crews are working hard to reopen the freeway, but it is not clear how long that closure will last friday night. probably busiest night of the week. not as rough. already. 5 people worry about the grapevine be there on a friday night like this and it's cold out. >> laurence. it's april right there thinking they've got a pretty good drive down to southern california to see family. >> and friends, maybe do a little business down there. and all of a sudden, yeah, issue with some closures. that's a big that's a major headed toward southern california. the same storm system moved through the bay area soon. really kind of roll into the southland and they've seen a lot of snow up there and some ice all the way down to about 3,000 feet. now some gusty winds. so that's a problem, especially for some of high-profile vehicles there as well. but this storm really affecting all of california

bringing with it. that rain, the snow, the thunderstorms this afternoon, things start to wind down, though, as the storm system getting ready to head out of town. thanks so much. nicer weather is on the way. they're now word right now. the golden gate bridge clearing out skies to going to be cold night, though. this is going to be really chilly. one outside numbers dropping off. you're down to 40 degrees right now in livermore. 42 in dublin. 47 degrees in pacifica. starting to see a couple 30's popping up places like fairfield right now. 38 degrees. it's 36 degrees in calistoga. 38 in kelsey bill. getting cold out there already going to get a lot colder overnight tonight with some frost showing up in the valleys. looks like we've got one last little weak system sliding on by. this could bring a slight chance of a sprinkle. i think overnight a saturday night into early sunday morning. you're sleeping. you're probably going to miss tomorrow. going to be cool, breezy around the bay area. it's not going to be a big heat up but should be dry out there. low forecast this week system coming through. that will move on by as we head towards sunday. then after that, here's the good news. high pressure starts to take over. really going to build in. we've got a great week ahead next week as

those temperatures likely to soar all around the bay area. so that being said overnight lows tonight, it's going to be cold out there, 30's and 40's, probably the coldest night we're going to for the rest of season until at least october. and these temperatures really going to start to heat up numbers 50's and 60's by tomorrow afternoon. looking like a nice day in a dry day. i think you're going to love next 7 days. we're going to turn things around here. get away from the wintry weather and then we start talking about some warm weather about that. some 70's as we head in toward monday by tuesday, mid 70's. then we get the middle of this next week. start talking about some 80 degrees. temperatures around the bay area on thursday and friday. so what a contrast. we're going back to a real spring weather, right? so that really cold, snowy. >> and boston wanting so we can put away our umbrellas. at least i didn't say that i'm seeing something about the middle of the month that we may need to break out those umbrellas once just less sears, there's see. we'll see how it all works out. oh, wow. i've a nice long run of of pleasant spring we ther. yeah.
