>> news station, this is. 11. >> now at 11, more than 100 cars break out into a sideshow. shutting down the bay bridge last night into this morning. good evening and thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn. 2 people are right now in custody for street takeovers that at one point closed off that top deck of the bay bridge in the early hours of today. kron 4 sarah stinson now in studio to walk us through what happened at all those sideshows that happened this weekend. sarah. >> dan, 6 sideshows happened

within 4 hours. video from a few of them behind me. each one brought its own kind of chaos and disruption. police departments in 4 cities and chp are investigating to see if all this illegal sideshow activity are linked to one another. >> a spree of sideshows across the bay area caused widespread disruption and chaos. the first began at a letter to do that every night in menlo park. police say more than 100 cars blocked the intersection of willow road and new bridge street. they say around 200 people gathered there to watch cars to do it escalated when police responded. people begin kicking and jumping on the hood of an officer's patrol car has more officers responded. the crowd left the area. no one was injured and no arrests were made. another sideshow could be seen around 30 minutes later by stanford in palo alto. dozens of people watched as cars took over the

intersection of coyote hill and page mill roads. police have not confirmed if any arrests were made. illegal sideshow. activity also happened in mountain view just after midnight sunday on middlefield road and bernardo avenue. >> police responded quickly which broke up the sideshow. police say 20 year-old woman from pittsburgh hurt her ankle after she was struck by a car. no arrests reported. police oakland responded to 2 sideshows. the first happened just after 2 in the morning. there was one sideshow on international boulevard people set off fireworks as well. officers then responded to another around 02:45am, in the morning on park boulevard. police say when they arrived, everyone took off. no arrests were made. the last reported sideshow in the bay area involved more than 100 cars blocking the westbound lanes of the bay bridge. chp says this was just before treasure island around 3 in the

morning. all westbound traffic came to a halt as people ignited fireworks and watch cars do donuts. a chp officers arrived. the crowd got into cars and drove off. >> chp says they detained 4 people, 2 of which were arrested and their cars towed. the 2 others are minors. they were cited. >> last year the city of oakland and alameda county board of supervisors, both crackdown on sideshows with new laws increasing the fines for those attending and organizing sideshows. but only 2 people out of the hundreds attended these sideshows over the weekend got arrested. i'm sara stinson reporting back to dan. >> all right, sara, thanks a lot in the east bay, a tragic accident after a rollover car crash kills a 9 year-old girl and sense for other people to the hospital. this happened around 5.15, this morning near concord. chp says the driver of a mazda was speeding when they went off the road near northbound 6.80, and highway to 42. investigators say 6

passengers were inside the suv when it flipped several times. some of those passengers were ejected from the car. a 9 year-old girl died at the scene for women were taken to the hospital. police say the driver ran away from this crash. he has so far not been found. today marks 6 months since the beginning of the war between israel and hamas on october, 7th, hamas staged a surprise attack on israel, killing hundreds of people and taking about 250 hostage about 130 of them are still being held captive. prime minister benjamin netanyahu has vowed to destroy hamas and bring all of those hostages home. now, hamas run gaza health ministry claims more than 30,000 civilians have died since the war began and all across the country today there were marches for the hostages still being held captive by hamas, including right here in the bay area. kron four's photojournalist joe barton. a has the story.

>> i'm here to show support for the hostages they've been there now, 6 months. >> we've been cooking the recipes that families and their loved ones have graciously put together. their loved ones that are in captivity. and we're here representing them with some taste of love from home. so we have all kinds of cookies and sweets and goodies. and we're selling out of our big cell and all the proceeds will be going to the families themselves and all those that have been affected. >> grew up and keep the theme the southwest corner of it's one of the communities that were attacked on october 7th. and i personally know a lot of the people who are impacted by it murdered and kidnapped. and we are here because there's still 133 hostages, innocent people who are in their saturday morning. have been held somewhere in gaza and the tunnels for 6 months to

>> one of the survivors came out and told the story about the rape and the torture to the women and they're not all israeli women. by the way, there's americans there, too. every day that passes another person and it doesn't matter. the nationality religion of the press and guys, what we need and i to end horrible situation. bring to the table that will bring the hostages bring much-needed relief and peace the speech. we need that i feel like in the last few days there's been some movement in the right direction closer to a deal. israel is pulling out troops. >> the messaging all around seems to be more positive. and i have to believe that they're going to come home. we want we want we need to bring the to where was. happy but we can do

we are pretty crisp out there. a little of sea breeze tonight, but we're mostly clear around the bay area, as you can see. and that will be theme for the weather this week. we have nice warm temperatures. a warming trend coming our way. you can see how quiet it is on our stormtracker. we don't see rain activity or clouds and we have a system to our north. but high pressure is moving at around the bay area. that's going to be very nice. it's going to feel like spring and summer this week. so stay tuned. temperatures out the door in the low 50's around the bay area will be warming up to the 60's and 70's starting tomorrow and you can even see a warm-up right now. this time last night, 3 to 5 degrees up in some places. fairfield. a little chilly tonight, though. and here's why we have this breeze going on, especially around the coast and some parts of the north bay. there. but your morning drive looks clear for now as well. we don't have to worry about that. visibility. and looking ahead tomorrow,

monday eclipse 70 degrees around the bay inland now on some inland valleys in the north bay could see upper 30's tomorrow. but take a look at tuesday. wednesday will be gradually warming up to the 70's. and then wednesday, thursday, it looks like we can possibly reach 80 degrees. so when i come back, we'll be talking about total eclipse and how you can view it here in the bay area. back to in for that. thanks a lot, >> this san mateo county sheriff's transit police bureau is investigating a deadly collision involving a person and a caltrain. this happened around midnight last night. a test train on the southbound track in san carlos struck a person who was on the tracks for an unknown reason. the situation is still under investigation tonight, the identity of the victim has not been released. santa clara county district attorney jeff rosen wants to eliminate the county's death row. he's looking instead to re sentence of 15 men now on death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole. roseann

called death row a, quote, antiquated racially biased error prone system. he said it also cost the state millions of dollars in public money 650 . people currently sit on death row in california. that's the highest amount in the country. back in 2019, governor newsom placed a moratorium on executions. the state is working to move inmates out of san quentin's death row and in 2 other facilities, tesla is set to go on trial this week in san jose over the safety of its electric cars. the case involves a family whose 2 year-old son crashed a tesla model x and it was pregnant. mom. the accident happened back in 2018. the lawsuit accuses tess of consumer fraud for advertising. the model x as safe. the lawsuit also claims tessa knew about it that the test, effect of design. tesla has denied any liability for the crash attempts to reach a settlement between the attorneys for tesla and the family of fallen through the court proceedings begin tomorrow in san jose.

eclipse measuring differences in the earth's atmosphere before during and after totality. all of our data >> is going to be brought together to look at impacts along this path from mexico up through maine. there's going to be data collection going 5,000 feet. 66%. the scientists from the nasa langley research center chose to come to fort drum because the air space, it's not often that we're able to to take small uas like this in flight as high as we with the current most of the time us aren't aren't going over your 400 to 1000 so having restricted airspace allowed us to go you 9,010 1000 now at this drone is unlike anything nasa has ever used before. it's decked out with instruments that measure things like temperature, wind and atmospheric pressure. scientists will take this data after the project to better

what's happening? >> yeah, i am excited. we are going to get a partial view. but it's something we'll get to eclipse forecasts here now. so we're not in the path of totality, but will still experience the celestial activity. so as you can texas and ohio, new york illinois, even 2 main. those are the states in the path that i did check. it looks like there will be some high clouds in the forecast in some states, but they'll be anything breaks in clouds to without be cool. as for as we are in the 30% range here. so what that means, even though we're not in the 100%, totality will still see the partial. and you can even see it here around 10, 15. so just before 10, 15, we'll see that beginning. and then around 11, 13, that's when we'll see the maximum view and then it will start to leave us just around 12, 15. so don't forget the solar

glasses. if you from october and if you don't, we have a fun diy project and i did this actually in the october clubs. so yoi just need some basic items you probably have laying around the officer at home, a pencil foil, scissors, paper tape and a shoe box. and what you're going to do, you're going to cut out to small holes on one side of the box and then you're going to take that piece of foil tape on one of the holes there. you can attach uncover one of the holes. you're going to poke a small hoyle. small hole in the floor, oil. and then you're going to add of that white of paper and you're going to put that in the back of the box. >> and that's going to have has going to be how you're going to see the eclipse when you you're going want to turn your back to the sun and then you can look inside that hole and then you're going to see the moon. make its journey across the sun here. and so it's a very safe way. it's very easy. you know, people are buying glasses out today. so there is some excitement here in california. clear

skies. we have the perfect weather for an eclipse viewing. so that's the thing. so quiet here on our storm tracker and take a look at the future cast model. we don't have a lot going on here. we have. yeah, we don't have a lot going on. so that tells you how warm and sunny it's going to be very soon will be waking up to the upper 30's in the north bay, though, and even a 40 in livermore. so could be upper 30's there as 40's around the bay. a daytime highs, though. now this is will be the first day of the week. were we're going to notice a warm-up 70 degrees. we were about 60 degrees yesterday in the last couple of days. it will be breezy, though. so that will be the other weather story, especially along the coast. we're going to see some 20's pop in the afternoon and in the evening. it should be coming down towards the evening as this other front leave us. and here's that 7 day outlook. nice, warm, especially wednesday and thursday. looks like the warmest days in the forecast and the 80's. and then i will say there's a chance of rain
