>> oakland chooses to move forward with this proposal, we will be forced to pursue legal action. >> now at 11 san francisco threatening legal action over a proposed name change for the oakland airport just days before the port of oakland is set to vote on that new name. good evening. thanks for joining us here on kron for news 11. i'm noelle bellow. the proposed new name is the san francisco bay oakland international airport. kron 4 sarah stinson reports. at the oakland airport on monday night. rumblings could be heard about the airport, possibly getting a new name. san francisco bay, oakland international airport. i think it's ridiculous. the port of oakland manages the airport and first proposed the name change late march. >> the port president says this will boost travelers, geographic awareness of where the airport is located. but people flying in and out of the airport say this would only make things more confusing. nothing about here that some francisco. we're

trying to get away from some school. that's why we come here san francisco and different cities. so that's way confusing. oakland mayor sheng thao has said the new name could support the airport's efforts to secure more direct flights and boost tourism in oakland. but across the bay, san francisco mayoral candidate and supervisor ahsha suffice as the name change would hurt sf. >> san francisco's a port of entry for millions of immigrants, millions of working people, people from all over the country in the world and what you don't want ever is for there to confusion ahead of the port commission scheduled vote on thursday. san francisco city attorney david chiu center letter threatening legal action if they go through with it. chew says the proposed name infringes supposed trademark. >> their proposal here's intentionally designed to divert travelers. it may be unfamiliar with area.

geography. we believe that the clear similarity and a very high likelihood of confusion gives us a strong federal trademark infringement in response to the possible lawsuit. the oakland airport released a statement saying in part the proposed name modification will clarify, not confuse the new name identifies where the airport is actually located. >> it also added that once the board approves the name change, the port will take appropriate measures to use the new name city attorney to says he hopes to speak with port officials before the vote on thursday. but if it gets approved, they are fully prepared to move forward with legal action. >> i'm sara stinson reporting at the oakland airport kron. 4 news. new at 11. the war on fentanyl continues in san francisco. these sfpd posting on social media. >> since the end of last may, they've seized 182 pounds of fentanyl. they've also arrested more than 900 people

for selling narcotics and more than 1000 people for using the drugs. heyward. firefighters are responding to a fire at paul di and hall road tonight. this is video from the citizen app showing flames coming from that building. the fire was reported a little after 10:00pm this evening. we're going to keep you updated as we learn more information. and take a look at the smoke that was coming from inside the posey tube earlier after a car caught fire while inside crews from alameda and oakland. both responded to that scene around 7.30, this evening. they worked together to put out those flames as they evacuated drivers. posey tube was closed for about an hour. firefighters did not say if anyone was injured. let's get you a live look now at the bay bridge toll plaza. not too many cars out there tonight. it was a really nice day, though, and i think it's a nice night today. >> that is and it will be a

nice start to our day for tomorrow. good evening, everybody. and we're going to clear skies for the most part, although maybe some scattered clouds to get things kicked off. as we start our day tomorrow. as nice clear skies are nice, clear picture you can see here and the artificial lights in the background were already in the 50's over most of the couple of 57 going on, for example, balais 49 already in fairfax and again, mostly 50's up to the north bay at this hour. so our forecast for tonight. we'll go with cool some patchy morning clouds, san francisco about 50 same kind of deal for oakland and 52. meanwhile for san jose, mostly clear and ool with that, the wake-up forecast well, by 10:00am we're mostly sunny and mild. it's 47 inland. but that is quickly. look at that. nice recovered. just a few hours. 69 show you what dryer can do. 68 around the bay and 71 for the bay and mid afternoon. 75 meanwhile, for much of the inland areas. so again, some scattered morning clouds around the bay on balance, mostly sunny. yeah. then tomorrow night through

wednesday, looks like we'll get some high cloudiness. if this starts to thicken up too much, technically, it may cost us in terms of forecast highs a little bit. we get a clear patch developing on thursday and then well, there goes the neighborhood, as they would say as we get into this weekend. now tonight got a few scattered clouds going on there. mid 40's for lows tuesday, wednesday, the sweet days. not too bad thursday, but that unsettled as we head into your weekend in a bit. we're going to take a look at longer range forecast for you and checking the extended in your 4 zone as well well. >> dave, thank you. police are looking for a man in connection to a crash that killed a 9 year-old girl in concord. crash happened early yesterday morning on 6.80, at highway 2.30, at the highway to 32 split. the girl's mother, 13 year-old sister and 2.17, year-old cousins were also in this car. all of them are recovering at the hospital. investigators are now trying to determine their relationships to the 30 year-old man who they say ran off from the scene after the crash today we spoke to a chp

officer who had a tip. if you do get into a car crash. >> you want to make sure you stay on scene after collision. that just helps piece together. what happened in the sequence of events for us when we were able to talk to everybody involved >> now it's unclear if drunk driving played a factor in this crash. a disturbing case we've been following out of the south bay where 3 suspects are in jail after a 3 year-old was killed during what her family members say was an exorcism. newly-released documents revealed the child fought for her life and tried to escape from the church where her mother, uncle and grandfather allegedly performed the exorcism to cast out a, quote, demon. it happened back in 2021. investigators say the girl's body had several injuries when firefighters found it on the altar of the church in downtown san jose. a coroner determined she died from a combination of a and smothering court documents revealing today the victim's mother told police she had

visions from god. her uncle claiming he had gifts from god. while the grandfather says he had gone to the church to pray over the child and believed the girl's mother. the 3 have pleaded not guilty. they're set to return to court next month. happening tomorrow, san jose leaders are set to vote on whether to ban homeless encampments around schools. if approved, it would prevent the unhoused in their rv's from parking within 150 feet of most campuses. local officials including mayor matt mahan support this proposal. that's after students at one east san jose school said they were being harassed and in at least one case, a followed by homeless people living near their campus. critics of the proposal argue the measure criminalizes the helpless. san francisco mayor london breed is advocating for the city's downtown recovery efforts. she's throwing her support behind 3 key state bills authored by san francisco officials. the 3 pieces of legislation would provide the

city with. so a set of creative solutions to build on local efforts to revitalize the area. the mayor also spoke today about how the work the city has done to help restore the vibrant downtown area. >> 2023, we saw one of the lowest crime rates we've seen in the past 10 years, not including 2021. we shut down for a global pandemic. we see those trends continuing because of the work that we're doing to address retail theft, open air drug dealing and using car break-ins and a number of other challenges that persist. >> the mayor also touted her 30 by 30 proposal, which aims to add 30,000 more residents and students to by the year 2030. a bay area. lawmakers introducing a bill targeting ticketing company. ticketmaster today the oakland assembly member buffy wicks introduced a bill that would stop what she calls ticketmaster's monopoly in the

sales market wicks as ticketmaster handles the ticketing and pricing for a vast majority of major concerts and sporting events. she says her bill would require more competition for ticketmaster giving event goers more options to buy tickets while saving on fees. wicks says she believes this would lead to lower prices and better customer service. >> it's pretty fundamental. i mean, it's a basic premise of capitalism. so when you have more competition, you have a better product, right? and that is the foundational to to our society here. so ensuring that we have that competition, the primary point of sale to is the one of the most critical things that we can do to end the monopoly. >> in a statement, ticketmaster said in part, quote, we support reforms to improve ticketing. be 28. 0, 8, will not do that. it will instead undermine the efforts of artists, sports teams and primary ticketing companies to minimize ticket scalping. after canceling last friday due to rain and other

challenges. oakland's first friday is finally coming back this week, the monthly events been on hiatus for 3 months to some funding issues. organizers say first fridays help celebrate arts culture and the community of oakland and they will be doing it this friday. meantime, the oakland zoo is being recognized for how well they take care of their animals. zoo the zoo is receiving accreditation from the association of zoos and aquariums in december. the facility underwent a thorough examination by leading experts who determined oakland zoo has met the world's most rigorous standards. the zoo is home to more than 850 native and exotic animals. you are looking at a group of original rosie, the riveters they're receiving a congressional gold medal in washington, d.c., this week. those woman will be honored for their service. >> during world war 2 on

>> well, hundreds of people gathered in san francisco at the expporatorium today on pier 15 for a watch party. it was the eclipse today. the moon only covered about a 3rd of the sun, but it was still a really good view. citing. >> especially board time. you know the local science center for families that for the community is this great. i live for stuff like this because as a science educator, i get excited when people get excited about natural phenomena.

>> millions across the country were in the path of totality today, including those in kron four's rob nesbitt hometown. he shares with us his family's experience of what's being called the great american eclipse. >> and a solar eclipse came with a lot of anticipation. millions of people in the united states excited for this rare moment of darkness. the best viewing was in the path of totality starting in texas and running 2200 miles to my hometown of hoxton main hi mom. i were like so many others, my family turned the eclipse into a family viewing party, seeing the skyline change from day to night and back today and a matter of minutes for my 3 year-old nephew. will that cool? yes. to my 91 year-old grammy j mall with a light around 10 miles from there in houlton, maine. >> the population more than doubled overnight with tours traveling for the best view of the dark sky. >> a cloudy forecast for other parts of the country. rerouted eclipse watchers to northern

artificial light. so with the clear skies and fairly dry air, our temperatures will be on the bottom out nicely. right now, though, we're still in the mid to upper 50's across the board. alameda. 56, for example, up north here, lower 50's already. so they're already settling close to wear those low temperatures will be tonight. forecast lows, 50 going on for san francisco. cool with some patchy morning clouds and all that around the bay may see this may see the same thing. get oakland 50 52. meanwhile, 4 san jose mostly clear with all that to tonight here lows. we do see some upper 40's with this, too. but again, around 50. so we're getting close in spots to the ultimate lows expected for tonight. futurecast doesn't have much to say in the 48 hour time noting some of those scattered clouds, big deal opening up nicely to sunny skies tomorrow afternoon. but tomorrow night into wednesday, we do see some higher clouds here and that may shave a couple degrees off of our forecast. highs clearing out a little bit on thursday. come give us some sunshine before the hammer down on which looks to be, unfortunately, as we

head into the weekend, i know right here on friday evening. here comes that low again, cold core low right past us through a central coast. got to be careful with a low right overhead like that because that's cold air and attempts to drive instability, particularly when you get daytime heating. we've been through this drill several weeks in a row. so gives an idea what to expect. alright, 67, san francisco to the coast. we'll be into the 60's. we'll have an afternoon breeze. of course, 70 going on for burlingame. 72 foster city in redwood city, palo alto, mid 70's, bumping it up to the upper 70's down in the south bay, san jose at 78 east bay shoreline, mid 70's along with tri valley mid to upper 70's, 77 walnut creek, 70 going on for berkeley, the lake with 71 78 for fairfield. 74 for napa and 78 for santa rosa. variety is the spice of life. and it's the inconsistencies of spring. yeah, we're going to pop in about 80 or so wednesday into thursday. and here comes the nasty stuff against saturday and on into the weekend. probably know. well, we'll see something on sunday to maybe

no question that clay has had some ups and downs over the last few seasons, but he seems to be in a great spot both physically and mentally. he doesn't care about starting or coming off the bench at this point. he's just grateful to be playing high-level hoop. after all, he's been through. >> all know the great great shooting nights and big scoring outputs put. unless you've been through accuse re our a c o, it's very difficult do that 2 years and come out and play in. whatever 94% of games. i that's why i'm proud of them. that's what i'm most proud of is just being available and being a constant in the lineup nba season is strenuous. it's long. it takes a lot of. this a plan to be able to do it nightly. that's one thing i am very proud of the season is just my ability to playing this amount of games to play with the great rhythm right now. and we have become accustomed to how to play with different guys in
