vicki liviakis because of that incident to sequoia station is expected to be closed now for the next 2 to 3 hours. according to samtrans, the pedestrian was just trying to catch a bus about 6.45. this evening at the sequoia caltrain station in redwood city. the person tripped and fell in front of the bus and the rear wheels of that bus ran over both of the pedestrianthe person was rushed to the ho south trends us and france rather says that bus routes that service the station will make drop-offs and pickups said el camino until the station reopens. this, of course, is a developing story and will keep you updated both on air and online. now, the big story tonight, a late season storm is heading here to the bay area. kron four's lawrence karnow joins us now. how long the rain is going to last? yeah, boy, i know this affect a lot of weekend so far this year. this going to be another. >> very cold storm rolling in

the bay area. see it rolling off the coastline. that area of low pressure just centered off the san francisco bay and well, it's going bring a lot of rain. the bay area overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. in fact, we're starting to see some of the showers begin to show up. now, most of the bay area staying dry throughout the day and then the clouds really start to roll in late in the day and well, now we're looking at some rain drops again. the forum parts of the north bay. it is only going to pick up from here. in fact, i think overnight tonight that rain will get heavy at times specially overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. here's the latest forecast model as we take you through the night tonight. you see the main front begin to move in around 3 o'clock in the morning. you start to see that rain rolling into the bay area and that's when we start to see end of that period. were you're going to see that rain really get going, especially into early parts of the morning. if you sleep in tomorrow, you may miss most of this 5 in the morning. some the heavy rainfall moving through the bay area, even by about 6 45 7 o'clock in the morning. and then after that, things begin to break up a little bit becoming more scattered showers around the bay area. that's kind of how we're going to play out the rest of the day. still, it is going to stay unsettled,

possibly wet boy. it is going to be a cold day around the bay area tomorrow. guys, back to you. >> alright learns a popular oakland event is back after taking a three-month break. first, fridays kicked off tonight featuring the city's culture. local small shops and food trucks. recent financial challenges forced organizers to suspend the event late last year. but as our kron four's, dan thorn shows us tonight. attendees and business owners. we're thrilled to have it back. telegraph avenue in oakland packed for the long-awaited return of first fridays. >> the popular street fair showcases art. music and the city's small shops like oakland zone over first friday of the small business incubator. and this is what we've got our start back in 2015. so we're really excited back on when we started our rent. introduce yourself the event has also helped other local small brands like oakland, native clothing to continue to grow means the world. to me.

money because the area where the city made them go several months ago, not attracting many people. look at this. a few people on a day-to-day basis. people aren't buying things and the reason big picture, this whole predicament exists is because the city crackdown on street vending on mission street back in november. they say because of crime and safety. so here we are. the city decided to set up 2 temporary sites for legitimate vendors. one was in indoor storefront here at mission near 18th called lt on. but that is expected now close in a little over a week. >> at the end of the day, the cells did not pick up in the way that they expected or that we expected. so that's why, you know, we're shifting our strategy here again. asked partnership with to try and refocus on one site and and really improving the cells there. >> the other vendors site is located at this outdoor

parking lot. that 24 thing kept the site known as la plus seat that had until recently been home to both street vendors and covid testing going forward. this site. he's going to expand and focus solely on street vendors hoping to attract additional vendors and shoppers. so the focus is going there. the city also is in the process of renovating another indoor storefront admission and 17th, which could open the vendors some time this summer. so stay tuned. vicki and ken, back to you. i grant a san francisco police department says it's compiled. >> the more than 270 reforms that the obama administration recommended 7 years ago. the police department was under heavy criticism following several violent incidents, including the shooting death of mario woods. now at the time the obama administration's department of justice recommended 272 reforms, including asking the department to address biased

policing limit to the use of force address equity issues, improve transparency and data collection. well, today the police department announced that they have submitted the last 27 responses to the 272. but critics say san francisco police have issues they need to be addressed. mayor london breed and the police chief do agree. >> all this is definitely a commemorative moment. this does not mean that we won't continue the great work that we're doing to balance the reforms that we need to implement as well as making sure that we focus on public safety for san francisco. >> each and every one of us know that there's a lot more work to be done and this work. cole reform is never truly over. but we have put in place systems we put in place infrastructure we put in place to support. to overcome

challenges and to adapt and we need to. and really that's what this work all about. >> now, even though the department says that they have completed all recommendations, not clear yet if the california department of justice agrees that those recommendations have been fulfilled. >> the driver involved in a crash that killed a 9 year-old girl in concord has been charged with felony hit and run and child abuse. the crash happened last sunday. here's video of the scene after the suv that rolled over was removed from interstate 6.80. police say the driver. 22 year-old jesus. toronto's guzman is from oregon. they say he was driving the suv with 5 family members when he crashed. the 9 year-old girl died at the scene. 5 of her family members are still in the hospital drawn to on is being held on a million dollars bail. >> crews in sonoma county say they believe that they found the body of a teenager who got swept away in the russian river. deputies say that the body was found this morning after they got a call about 2

teens that needed to be rescued last night. witnesses say one of the teens was able to get out on their own. but the other never made it out. police have arrested in american canyon high school teacher for the second time in one week. investigators say that they found new evidence. 41 year-old brad raul sexually assaulted a child. raleigh is a pe teacher. he was on administrative leave following the first arrest at the school on tuesday on charges of the inappropriate contact with a minor. san jose business owner says he's getting fed up with getting burglarized over and over again. the guild house is a gaming center in downtown san jose. >> the owner says his business has been broken into 8 times since it opened just 2 years ago. the latest incident happened in late march. she says the suspect stole $20,000 worth of merchandise. it took the bars credit cards and keys. the bar owner says police are investigating the latest break-in, a hub for san

francisco's nightlife is closing its stores. temple in the soma district is known for its live dj and music performances. the club says financial difficulties are forcing them to close in late may. they still have tickets available for several concerts that are coming up. >> bay area bio tech giants genentech and sanofi are laying off hundreds of workers and the next couple of months said jeannine tech expected that more than 400 employees, the layoffs start in june. sanofi is a french pharmaceutical company and will lay off about 100 employees as it closes. the san francisco location. >> the california secretary of state has certified the results of the march 5th primary election. one notable election results with the race for congressional district 16. it's the race to succeed. eshoo, sam liccardo, former san jose mayor came in first then low and show some indian tied for second place as of now for the first time in

>> cinco de mayo just a couple weeks away. and it's a holiday brings out big crowds to san jose and also brings out hundreds of low riders to crew yet quite a sight. last year, san jose police were criticized for their patrol of that event. our kron four's jack molmud talk to the low riding community about what steps they and police are taking this year. so hopefully cars just like these 2 low riders behind me. it will be out in the streets of san jose. this upcoming cinco de mayo. now san jose police normally puts out a plan of how it will enforce the parade. >> just like this one that catches last year. it didn't really go so well blocking a lot of people from going the route that they wanted to go. but now the low reddit community and san jose police are working together to make sure this community event is there for everybody. eddie

>> new at 10 cities in the south bay are teaming up with transit officials to make improvements to erode that many students go through to get to school. the one and a half mile stretch of homestead road passes through los altos, cupertino and sunnyvale. the road between foothill expressway and hollenback avenue connects west valley elementary cupertino, middle and homestead high school officials plan to upgrade bicycle lanes, widened sidewalks and add crosswalks. according to the valley transportation authority's website, construction is set to start this summer with a mid april storm expected to drop snow in the sierra this weekend. the highway patrol is warning drivers not to be caught off guard. >> reporter eric rucker caught up with drivers who are grateful they avoid driving in the snow tonight. >> here in nyack were about 5,000 feet in elevation. and besides all the snow that is packed up to the side of the parking lot, there really is no other snow because it hasn't snowed here for a

while. however, this weekend that snow line is expected to come down this low even to the 5,000 foot mark. >> smooth sailing friday for drivers in the sierra come tomorrow. that will likely change. really lucky really happy be up here today. sharon guzman and family from the east bay are heading to reno for a volleyball tournament bank. fully. they are making the trek ahead of this weekend's wet weather. happy to be able care when it's not snowing and then enjoy the snow tomorrow enjoyed in person not on the road, correct? inevitably, though, some drivers coming up this way this weekend will not be expecting snowfall. just people are not prepared and planning for it. officer jason lineman with the chp says smaller storms in the sierra can sometimes cause the most issues on the interstate. the reason drivers just don't take them seriously. >> people think it's just it's just a little bit. but the road is still just a slick when it's one on their versus

a foot on the ground in cisco grove at about 5600 feet in elevation. snow from storms past is still around. the key is to keep the snow up here as as possible into the spring and summer to avoid potential flooding down the hill. meaning we do not want a sudden temperature warm for heavy rain here. meteorologist craig shoemaker with the national weather service in sacramento tells us even if lighter rain hits the snow in the sierra, it will just be absorbed by the current snowpack, adding we should be out of the woods for the heavy rain part this season every day and every week it's becoming less likely that will we get a strong. >> atmospheric river storm and it would certainly be unusual. climatologically speaking to get one as we head into late april and may. and one more note, chp has a pretty good addition to what they were saying. and that story as well. they added that you should bring your chains up here because there might be chains controls and not only that. >> but know how to install them yourselves because those professionals that you might

see up here that you can pay to install your chains for you? well, they might not be working because it's so late in the season. in the sierra. i'm eric rucker kron. 4 news. >> all right. now to our 4 zone forecast as we get a live look right now, eastbound i-80 in king bell >> says some cars through snow still out there on the road. they could put chains on. >> nor do i intend to so much fun going end known back last. i don't know that the chain gang their seasonal. i i didn't know that. so yeah. if you're traveling up there in the high country that something you may want to think about before going up because put those chains on in the snow and the cold temperatures. well, it's kind of difficult out there. we're going to see a lot of snow with this storm system is a rolls on through late season storm. >> and very, very cold for this time rolling on in right now. the roadways are open and clear be looking at both the

80 50. you're looking good. just check on the roads and both are looking okay right now. tomorrow. probably not. so you may have some issues from time to time. they may be changing up during the day tomorrow as the storm system rolling right down from the gulf of alaska. so it's containing a lot of cold air as it gets a little bit coles closer and then it's going to move in toward the coastline that the rain here in the bay area are going to turn to snow in the high country back. maybe see a little snow or local peaks. wind advisories still going up for the great lake tahoe area. some gusts maybe 50 55 miles per hour there. so watch out high profile vehicles and we've got a winter weather advisory extending southward toward mammoth lakes all the way down through 70 and continuing all the way to lake isabella, as we're going to see a lot of snow, maybe 6 inches, maybe a foot of snow across some of the higher peaks. so that's a pretty significant storm specially for this time of year. so tomorrow headed up toward the tahoe area, be prepared. snow and wind expected throughout the day on saturday and then snow showers, some cold air moving in, especially over the mountain peaks and then the

warm weather returns on monday as we start to dry things out. but yeah, it looks like another round of some heavy snow. this may be the last big snow of the season. 12 inches maybe as much as 18 inches across some of the highest peaks. thank snow. 10 tomorrow will be francisco's first official. pokemon day leaders voted to adopt april 13th this pokemon day earlier this week. >> with the day they hope to encourage people to visit their local libraries to check out pokemon books and make a friend through the pokemon games. this comes as the city plans to host the pokemon world championships in 2026. at mosconi center. >> coming up, san jose police arrest 2 man after they say they were selling guns out of their home. plus, how clinics across california are getting ready after arizona banned most types of abortions.

happening now, traffic is crawling along eastbound 5.80, at north livermore avenue in livermore because of this big mess. a big rig overturned around 8 o'clock tonight spilling debris all over the freeway. >> the highway patrol is on the scene. they are reporting some minor injuries. 2 big rigs crash on the very same freeway 2 days in a row. both of them happening on interstate 80. the most recent this morning in hayward, the southbound lanes just past whitney avenue. the chp says a semi hit a wall and then slammed into the center divider. officers say the driver may have been drowsy at the time. they say nobody was hurt. >> this comes after yesterday morning's big rig crash on the

connecting ramp between westbound to 38 in 8.80, in san lorenzo. officers say the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the semi overturned. he also was not hurt. >> police in san pablo are looking for this man who they say groped a woman at a gas station on march. 18th, pablo gas station is on ellport. how drive-in church lane. anyone who recognizes this man is asked to contact san pablo police. take a look at this. police say these guns were found inside a home and a storage unit in san jose. >> 2 men were arrested. investigators say that the man we're selling the guns out of their home near monterey road in the lake neighborhood. they were both booked into jail. coming up next, a san francisco community coming together after surveillance video captures a man. >> vandalizing a mosque. now

at 10, 30, a muslim community is speaking out after their mosque in san francisco is vandalized they were joined by the police who arrested the man responsible. >> kron four's gayle ong has our story. >> we hope no harm the falls. anybody of any ethnicity. we are here with you together. that you're paying we are relieved that the perpetrator has been apprehended. interfaith leaders showing solidarity with the muslim community friday afternoon. >> days after a man smashed windows of this, not he'll mosque and harassed members. surveillance video captured it all. san francisco police say the man you see in the video is 35 year-old robert greatly arrested him for felony

vandalism. >> we arrested him and charged with a hate crime for all the damage in the threatening in that really intimidating what was going on police say gray visited the mosque multiple times this month. >> during the holy month of ramadan, the sfpd assistant police chief and chief of staff for the san francisco district attorney's office shared these words. we will drive by moss and places of worship. we're continue to be present. >> but but the trust is so important because we want to help people. we want to respond rapidly. we take a crime very seriously here. we truly believe it is every san franciscans right to have a safe place to worship. the mosque's board members say there have been other acts of vandalism during the holiday month. >> and hope the arrest of the perpetrator in this case will send the message the city's actions. today will show the city is serious and taking action against people who hate against muslim than any other race. religion in the city to see the francisco police

department step up. >> the way that they to see the temps, a school district attorneys office the way that they to show that the muslim community is has heard seen as other community members and cisco. the word comes from the word in arabic language which means peace. so we hope these and blessings are spread across all communities. and we hope that such incidences do not impact anybody. great remains in custody and is facing 6 years in state prison if convicted of all charges and the hate crime allegation. >> in san francisco, gayle ong kron, 4 news. >> planned parenthood clinics here in california are bracing for an up tick in patients after arizona passed a near total ban on abortion. that ban is set to take effect in 2 weeks. it forbids all abortion procedures unless they are needed to save a pregnant woman's life. now, some clinics here in california are preparing for patients who may cross state lines to access the procedure. health care

providers say that includes opening more appointment slots and training providers. meantime, workers with planned parenthood, northern california have voted to unionize. the move will impact planned parenthood workers at 18 locations, including a san francisco health center in lower. not hill. more than 200,000 borrowers are set to have their student their debts forgiven. the white house announced that its new plan to cancel debt has 7 more states file a lawsuit to stop the forgiveness plans. the lawsuit alleges president biden is overstepping his authority. the new strategy lets borrowers pay nothing back until they reach a certain income level. it also eliminates interests growth. the new plan comes as the supreme court struck down. the white house is first attempted student loan forgiveness back in 2022. gas prices continue to rise and there may be no relief in the near future. both the shift from the winter gas plant of the summer bland.

>> and more people driving as we get closer to summer, half oil companies hiking prices. let's take a look at what you can expect this weekend to pay for a gallon of gas across the bay area. the most expensive in the napa area. 5.79 a gallon. san francisco, sandra fell just a few cents less than that followed by oakland and san jose at about 5.60, cheapest gas is in the fairfield area at 5.58. a gallon today on kron for news at noon. we talked with the uc berkeley professor on ways to try to lessen the stain of these high gas prices. best way to beat high gas prices is to make sure that you have a car that gets decent fuel economy. >> because if you can go from 20 miles per gallon to 30 miles per gallon, that is like cutting your price of gasoline by a 3rd. so its important to think about that when we're buying cars. >> the professor says that while the state average is 5.44 a gallon, there's a committee investigating why prices are so high here in california compared to the

rest of the country. national park week kicks off next saturday with free admission at all national parks. >> including a semi and pinnacles and many of the parks already don't charge interest fees, but park officials hope the fee-free holiday encourages people to visit entrance fees are only waived on the first day of national park week. that's next. saturday. april 20th. >> work along eastbound highway. 37 in sonoma has been rescheduled because of the weather. caltrans will now repave roads. the following 2 weekends. that is the weekends of april 19th and the 26th for a look at the weather conditions. kron four's lawrence karnow here with more. usually we're talking about sunshine and warmer weather this time of year. >> we've got an unusually cold system that is now rolling in toward the bay area. in fact, won't be long. now. we're going to talk about some rain begin to fall and parts of the north bay least northern sonoma county already out there right now. the clouds have gathered already saw that late in the day. the

temperatures taken a big hit today. in fact, these numbers coming way down across the board for the golden gate bridge. still dry out there right now, but not for long. see that rain moving into the numbers really taking a nosedive today. in fact, some places more than 20 degrees cooler than just a day ago as we head a big change in the weather pattern. high-pressure getting out of the way and that cooler air begin to make its way up. the civic coming right down to the gulf of alaska. so this is just the beginning of a trend as we head toward the next couple days tomorrow could be on the cold side. so 58 degrees the high in san francisco today. 62 oakland, 68 in san jose member. we have some 80's yesterday and livermore concord and santa rosa. well hovering in the 60's today. they'll be lucky to get out the 50's by tomorrow afternoon. tonight, mostly cloudy skies, that rain and wind a rolling in late tonight early tomorrow morning tomorrow. not going to be rain now. that's the good news. i think we see that heavier rain in the morning hours. then it's just going to break up to scattered showers as we head toward about 9, 10 o'clock in the morning and in the afternoon, i think we'll see a bigger band of rain moving in

by tomorrow night. but a chance of showers continuing into sunday morning as well. temperatures out the door generally in the 50's outside around the bay area. the winds have also started to pick up outside that southerly wind kicking in out ahead of that cold front so that we could see some gusty winds out toward the beaches. some of those winds are blowing 20, even 30 miles an hour near the coastline, likely to pick up as that front gets a little bit closer. so watch out for that. but here we are. this is where we see the system off the coast line. is that low spinning off the coast now that will be bringing with it. more rain on the way. not here just yet, but some scattered showers showing up in the north bay already more to come overnight tonight. so we're getting ready for the system to move on shore. unusual to see a cold storm moving in this late in the season. and then it's going to just kind of park off the coast. so there's a possibility we couldu be talking about some thunderstorms as the system rolls through 2. so here it is on the models here. forecast overnight tonight. the heaviest rain coming early tomorrow morning. behind that we get into that unstable air and that's where you can see some of those thunderstorms. maybe some hail some lightning strikes out around the bay
