busiest freeways. another protest is breaking out right now in fremont. and that's where we find kron. 4 is jack molmud tonight with the very latest from there. jack, what's going >> evening. we're outside the warm springs bart station here in fremont what started about an hour ago. about 30 people has grown about 50 of people here protesting the goal of social media it but read it is to march from the one springs park station all the way down about a half mile or so to headquarters that we weren't really sure why they want to protested for tesla's. we niesr is for this protest today and he said they want to make a point because the other 2 protests we saw earlier today, what you look at some of stuff that's happening right what i just said that this protest is related to those other 2 protesters on 8.80, oakland and along the golden gate bridge in san francisco. now he said that the goal was to disrupt the economics united states. they

said the reasoning behind tesla's because tesla is one of the largest theft auto manufacturers here. they want to send a message and say tesla and elon musk, the founder of tesla, complicit in what's these protesters are saying about in their chance. calling out lot to say about where they they're saying that he is complicit in what is going the goal is right now, though, they want to march from the warm springs bart station down to the tesla headquarters. they say that will hopefully happen. about 20 minutes ago. they said they wanted happen. so it may be the next 10 minutes. we will see them and start to happen. we did. you want organize or say they are waiting for a bus that shot of the people for the people walk that i did ask what are you organizers, how long they're willing to have this protest lasted and he said, however, long it takes and that will be marching along with them to find out what happens when the guns of tesla and hopefully speak to more of the organizers here find out more along with this

protest. what's happening here for jack, a juneau, if any of those folks are the same people that were involved in the earlier protests on the bridge and 80 in oakland. >> i'm not entirely sure. now when i did speak with the organizer, though, he said this is part of the same organization that did organize the to protest that we saw on the golden gate at along with 8.80, as well. so it's all pretty right, jack moment live for us in fremont where this protest is apparently on the move tonight. we'll keep tracking it throughout the night. thank you, jack. in the east bay, several protests took place along interstate 80 in oakland. this was the scene near the embarcadero exit this morning. >> 7 protesters chain themselves to 55 gallon drums filled with concrete. it took several hours to remove those protesters and eventually reopen that stretch of freeway. 7 people were arrested there, but it was not the only place in oakland where protesters affected traffic kron four's. rob nesbitt joins us now from our

saying the disruption of daily lives is what is needed to get the president's to biden to stop arming israel and to help bringing in cease-fire by 01:00pm. chp officers in riot gear back. the large crowd of protesters off the freeway, allowing traffic to flow. the protesters chanted for a cease-fire as they carried their flags off the freeway down 7th street in oakland, according to chp, 5 people were arrested. protesters say they clearly got their point across. this is the only way >> to send a message to people in power. unfortunately. avenues that have available to us calling emailing. are working, have been working for 6 months. so that's why we're out here. >> traffic along 80 was disrupted for about 5 hours and the protesters marched from there down 7th street toward the west. oakland bart station. that station was closed briefly for reports of police activity. reporting in

the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron 4 news. thank you, rob. and more than 2 dozen people were arrested after the golden gate bridge was shut down for several hours this morning as protesters chained themselves together. our first dan kerman spoke to the chp and has the latest. >> the california highway patrol had their hands full on monday as pro-palestinian protesters used tax day to demonstrate against the israeli gaza war by shutting down bay area freeways and the golden gate bridge. i don't want my tax dollars that on dollars going to israel to support. they wanted us the commute from the north bay into san francisco came to a grinding halt just before 8 monday morning as demonstrators brought their cars to a stop in the southbound side of the bridge and then used pipes chains and locks to make the removal difficult. officers had to contend with numerous giving numerous vehicles. chained. >> with chains concealed with pipes, connecting the drivers

and passengers outside of the vehicles. >> the chp then shut down the northbound lanes of the bridge. and then for more than 4 hours, those looking to get from one side to the other who weren't already stuck had to improvise. i'm going to take walk hike taken to rid of the ferry and then take the ferry up socially, do so. >> another hour the chp ended up arresting 26 of the golden gate bridge. protesters who will face a variety of charges, including false imprisonment for preventing those stuck in the bridge from moving as well as conspiracy. it was an orchestrated event that they put forth. >> they blocked a 3 separate locations on freeways. they prevented, you know, law enforcement, paramedics, ambulances to get to their points of destination and prevent that from happening. and that's that can happen by 12, 15 lanes in both directions reopened and the golden gate. >> the chp ended up impounding for vehicles. the chp says they had intelligence.

something was going to happen on april 15th, but no specifics as to where and when they say they will continue to respond to these incidents and get them cleared as quickly as they can't. at the golden gate bridge. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> happening now, things looking pretty calm, actually, just as the evening commute sets in a much different story for commuters this morning, the protest on the golden gate bridge had widespread impact on people to trying to get into and out of san francisco kron four's terisa stasio caught up with those who are struggling to figure out alternative routes. >> here at the larkspur ferry monday. a scramble to secure another way to san francisco. did that protests shutting down the golden gate bridge? very disturbing day understand protesting is a right with this. not the way to do every believe disrupted so many people's lives had a doctor's appointment and complete disrupted. my wife has a doctor's appointment in the city. >> can't be changed. so this

is our only option one many people shared frustration with the hours-long closure. others had a different perspective. it's the first day going back to school for me as a teacher after spring wasn't expecting this. we adapt and haim antiwar. so i'm not in favor of shutting down the bridge, but i am in favor of stopping the war. >> and it wasn't just those trying to get into san francisco. but those trying to leave san francisco that work widely impacted by the closure on the golden gate bridge this morning, i was on my way to sausalito to work and fortunately have the radio on to kick right before i hit the bridge. found out about turned around, went whoa. >> followed at the news for a little while and then decided. have a beautiful ride over on the ferry so that i'm here in larkspur just might take it more yeah, i know that's not an option for everybody. and i'm really grateful that it worked out for things, trains,

automobiles, but we made they was coming from. >> my sister's funeral was yesterday. >> going to a retreat for a week after to. >> have some me time at the larkspur ferry theresa kron. 4 news. >> all of the cease-fire protest comes just 5 months after the bay area saw its first major protest on the bay bridge. you may recall that that was back in november. that was during the apec conference. dozens of people. stopping traffic and stopping cars blocked it for hours on the bay bridge. some of them even tossing their car keys into the bay. san francisco judge ordered 78 of the 80 demonstrators to perform 5 hours of community service. they also agreed to pay more than $4,000 in restitution to avoid criminal charges. and then at sfo cease-fire protest took over the international terminal last month. protesters lined up locking gates with a giant banner that read stop the world from gaza.

cool for this time of year. of course we have the showers out there, too. but now things start to turn around. we're getting ready for spring to make return and but it's going to be gorgeous outside as we head toward the coming be like the sunshine, the warmer weather. it is on the way right now clear out of half moon bay, although we'll likely see some fog developing there a little bit later on a little cloudy there early on this morning. temperatures out the door right now, a very pleasant 67 degrees in concord. also into livermore, 68 antioch, 66 in san jose. cool. 55 in half moon bay where we saw the sunshine. but that sea breeze cooling off just a bit. and 63 degrees in the battle overall. the state looking good. we're dry up and down all across the state now is high pressure trying to sneak in here is that ridge builds in. it will bring with it. a lot of sunshine and some warmer temperatures in the coming days right now. skies mostly clear. just a couple of pop-up clouds over the mountain tops and that sea breezes kicked in a little bit. i think that we'll see a couple patches of fog overnight. and although it's not going to be one of those really thick deck. so it's going to burn off early. so that means tonight if you're

stepping out side, we've got a nice evening outside 40's. we're going to see plenty of sunshine as you head through the evening. a little cooler spots of temperatures dropping off into the 50's as we head toward the interior valleys by 8, 9 o'clock tonight. and then it looks like overnight tonight, starry skies for the entire bay area. high pressure, though. yeah, it looks like it is going to build in. it's going to send that jet stream to the north. and so as that jet stream moves northward, so to the storm. so we're going to break in the stormy weather pattern. in fact, this holds true. there's a very good chance next weekend. we could be talking about sunshine is, of course, has been pretty wet on the weekend so far, much of the year. but i think next weekend looking good. i think this week we watch these temperatures topping out in the 70's and the 80's around the bay area. nice trend ahead, weather-wise. well, more on that. the extended forecast coming up in a few minutes. you know, it's coming up. thousands of jobs at tesla on the verge of getting caught in a new round of layoffs. plus, a dublin women's prison at the center of controversy shutting down by the federal government.

>> the >> federal bureau of prisons is shutting down a women's prison in dublin. this comes after the fbi searched the prison last month in the past 3 years. at least 8 employees f c i dublin have been charged with sexually abusing incarcerated women. 5 of them have already pleaded guilty. a bureau of prisons officials

say that the agency had taken tremendous measures to address employee misconduct and despite the stepson efforts, fci, dublin is not meeting standards. they say the best course of action is to close the facility. >> in the north bay, a prison correctional officer pleaded guilty to taking bribes from inmates to smuggle phones. stephen crittendon worked at the california medical facility in vacaville from 2021 to 2023. he accepted bribes of more than $45,000 from inmates wanted him to smuggle in phones. crittendon pleaded guilty to bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds and is scheduled to be sentenced in september is facing a maximum of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. meantime, to san francisco county jails are now on lockdown after a number of inmate attacks on deputies and other staff. >> the union that represents the deputies is demanding the immediate deployment of the california national guard. the lockdowns are happening to

county jails, 2, 3, where the sheriff's office says 7 staff members have been injured by inmates since march. 29th. >> kron 4 is your election headquarters. the recount was started today in the race for south bay. congresswoman anna issues, former seat former san jose mayor sam liccardo came out first in the preliminary round has been low and show some indian tied for second place. they both have just over 16% of the vote. each it could take up to 5 days for the recount to be finished. southern california senator steven bradford has launched a campaign for lieutenant governor. >> in twenty-twenty 6, senator bradford has served in the senate since 2016 and previously served in the assembly as well has on the gardena city council. he was also a member of california's reparations task force. senator bradford says he believes his background as a fighter within the legislature. we'll help him much in this run for

lieutenant governor. elected senator bradford would be just the second black person to hold this role. california attorney general rob bonta and secretary of state shirley weber are suing the city of huntington beach in orange county. >> over new voter id requirements approved by voters there in the march primary. that measure allows the city to require voters to show id when voting in person starting in 2026. donna and weber argue the measure violates state law. would make it harder for some to vote. >> they have taken action to violate the law. state of california in a way intentional. a brazen will be subject to be accountability and the action that we're taking in court today. >> in a statement, huntington beach city attorney michael gates responded with this. quote, the people of huntington beach have made their voice is clear on this issue and the people's decision on the march 5th ballot measures for election integrity is final to that

that pollen count staying up here for the days and weeks ahead. as we'll see a lot more sunshine as warm weather out the door right now. we do have a breeze blowing. you've got those winds 90 miles per hour out of the west in the san francisco bench, that will likely carry couple patches of fog least along the coastline, not expected to be widespread around the state. looking good, clear around most of the state to looking good out there right now. public clouds over the sierra nevada. otherwise keep things dry across the state. that's what it's going to stay. a high pressure going to build in here. see that northerly component, trying to kick in here. i think for the most part that is going to keep much of the cloud cover, at least a thick deck away. we may just a couple of patches of fog tomorrow morning and that would give way to some sunshine and a couple high clouds drift in as we head throughout the day, but really looks like a very nice week ahead. no in the forecast for now. maybe something around the 24th 25024th of the month. but let's enjoy what we have. 77 degrees tomorrow. mostly sunny in san jose about 73 degrees in mostly sunny in oakland and 65 degrees. make sure fog and sunshine and you

>> tesla set to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce. according to an internal email that was obtained by several news organizations. reports are suggesting at least 14,000 workers affected by this latest round of job cuts. it's not clear which teams will be affected, but it seems the layoffs are going to go all the way to top management staff in california and texas reportedly being told about the layoffs already. this comes as tesla is grappling with falling sales and an

>> our top story this half-hour, this morning's double protests that cause commuter havoc on both the golden gate bridge in 8.80, in oakland. it seemed get under way pretty quickly. but it took hours to clear the scene and let people start moving again. kron four's catherine heenan in the newsroom with the >> timeline on morning crunch. it was a crunch r i dot this.

it was a timeline that to some of this morning's commuters will not soon forget it's time they're not going to be getting back. the trouble began early this morning starting off an interstate 8.80. around 06:30am, protesters have blocked. >> all 4 northbound lanes of aid, 80 south of 5th street and barca darryl and this put you right in the heart of the morning commute there in oakland. protesters have completely stopped traffic and there is a police response. some of the protesters had chained themselves to large barrels filled with concrete, which had been dropped off by a truck, making it clear immediately there would be no fast way to move them. the bad news spread quickly, look at all the police that are responding. they need vehicles. we'll the lift and movies, oil drums. there are thousands of cars that go for miles that are stuck, not moving at all. then news of a second protest. we have just found out holding a bridge southbound. >> we
