>> looking at your camera, half moon bay already getting that sunshine. we did have some fog out there earlier. that's gone at this point. you can see visibility is solid. good to go all across the bay area. as for current temperatures, a few of us are back up in the 60's like hayward and brentwood at 62 fairfield and vacaville up to 60 for now. and temperatures will continue to rise. taking us to the 70's for more and more of us later on today. back to you. >> thanks a lot. now let's get back to that breaking news. police have arrested 3 people for the shooting deaths of 2 teenage girls in napa. yeah, this happened over the weekend. reyna harvey here in the studio now with the very latest on that and james. so napa police say one of the victims was a 17 year-old girl. the other one, just 19. well, police right at the scene on saturday found the 2 girls suffering from gunshot wounds. they say one of the girls died at the scene and other one died hospital saturday night and a new development this morning. now the police say 3 people have

been arrested. 22 year-old john nicholson of allay is being charged with 2 counts of murder. 19 year-old jessica layton and judith 8 off both of santa rosa. they've been charged with aiding in a felony. so now the police say all 3 suspects were charged and booked into the napa county jail. officials say apthat although there have been those rest, it's still looking for witnesses to come forward in that shooting. i'll send it back to you both at the des. i thank you. reyna. >> happening right now, we have a hearing for convicted killer scott peterson being held this morning in redwood city. it's the first of 3 hearings that have been said as his defense team continues to try to get a new trial travelers. michael thomas is live at the hall of justice in redwood city with what we know is going on right now. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. that hearing actually just finished up. it lasted maybe a total of 15 to 20 minutes. we did have our charles clifford inside who tells me that scott peterson did appear via zoom from prison. and we've got video on

your screen. he looked similar to this image the last time he was at a hearing. he had his hair back in a ponytail that blue jumpsuit and only spoke essentially to make sure that he could hear the judge. now what was discussed, essentially, they did put a letter request asking that all new evidence brought into question remain private and the sealed not making any public appearances information given out at that point. stanislaw county da did respond by saying some of that information may already be public. and some of it may just be kind of too hard to do so essentially the innocence project did repeal that request letter. so any new information that does possibly come up that be brought into evidence, we all would find that information out because they did pull back from that letter. in addition, they also talked about evidence, physical evidence that currently is in modesto of how they would get it here to san mateo county and how they would be able to go through it. that is still things that officials are trying to work

through with the da office over near modesto, saying that they would need to figure out how to transport. it may also the request of the innocence h - project has asked for because some things are not going hand in hand and some things just don't make sense, essentially on their aunt and to get background information on that. the innocence is an organization that really takes on cases that they feel were convicted wrongfully, which is how they took on scott peterson's case. and during this time, they're continuing to ask for these these requests. and they are asking for a new trial. but back out here live, this is just the first of 3 hearings. so as we get more information on the next hearing and that is put on to the calendar will continue to keep you updated. but tara and james overall, this hearing again, 20 minutes long, really not much was done. and scott peterson did not speak at all. we're waiting to for more expert and we'll bring that to you at noon. we'll send it back to live in the studio. k thanks a

lot. michael. >> channel 4 is the time of the other big story we're following this morning as the fallout from yesterday's demonstrations. one is case. we had 50 pro-palestinian protesters rallying from the fremont bart station and then marching over to the tesla factory in fremont. and then there was tension and confrontation between the protesters and the police. >> police ended up firing pepper crowd for us. jack molmud was caught up in it. >> and those pepper bullets not only hit the protesters, but they also a journalist as well, including us here kron 4 news, not before that confrontation with police officers. the protest was relatively peaceful and what demonstrators call a nationwide economic log is the chant heard around the bay area monday. protesters looking to make a statement blocking traffic. >> and some of the region's biggest names will not be complicit in genocide. and we not allow economy to proceed like normal. khalil gibran

organizer for the protest says they want to target tesla as the benefits from u.s. tax dollars which also go to fund the country's allies like israel, even if no one in charge. here is the message. jim braude says they are here but we will come out in the numbers to make sure that we are her. what matters to them is their capitalism one of the pressing people here in the states and globally. the protest started at the warm springs bart station in fremont at this protesters who didn't give us their name. >> says they were prepared to be there all evening. >> but quickly, the group took to their cars, arrived at the entrance of the tesla factory. employees tried to block off the crowd with fences, but the increasing number of protesters took it down. they marched all the way to the main entrance of tesla's factory where they met with police. it was peaceful at first, but fired at protesters and some the more we protest, the more we show up we're going to get. and i just hope that people are ready to come together and stand up the

protests died down after that. but for people like that, they're corey, who is palestinian american and it's been affecting us our whole my whole life. he says he's standing up for his family who lives in the war zone. are you worried for them? >> absolutely. yeah. sometimes they don't respond because they're just like i said. >> they're tired of responding everybody, but it scares you because you don't know if something happened to them or they're just like tired responded, you know, now these are the pepper that fremont police used against protesters. and of course, ended up hitting journalist as well for you watching at home. these to definitely not feel good. now we reached out to from a police to find out how many people were arrested from today's protest as well as tesla for comment. but we did not hear back reporting in fremont jacmel kron 4 news. >> with 10, 0, 7, the time and the recall effort behind alameda county's attorney pamela price is moving forward. so the registrar of voters confirms there are enough signatures for a recall election. the group behind the effort believes recalling

price would bring positive change to the alameda county area. now, the next step is for the alameda county board of supervisors to review the petition. they plan to do that on april. 30th. we just heard from organizers of the recall effort this morning. they say they plan to hold a press conference today to talk more about this development. that press conference is scheduled for 11:00am at the county administration building. we will let you know what they say. >> it's 10, 0, 7, and happening now, sonoma county, home care providers are rallying in front of the board of supervisors meeting. they want a livable wage the union for the workers says that home care providers and nursing home workers in the county make less. then when acosta live in sonoma county and they say that those low wages have contributed to a caregiver shortage. also happening today, san francisco sheriff's office is going to talk about lockdowns that are happening at 2 jails. there are under a lockdown because of a number of inmates have attack deputies and staff lockdowns are at jails 2, 3, where the

sheriff's office says inmates of hurt 7 staff members since march. 29th. the union representing the deputies wants the california national guard to be called in to help. women's prison in dublin. this comes after the fbi search that prison last month because over the last 3 years, at least 8 employees there have been charged with sexually abusing inmates. 5 of them have already pleaded guilty. no word on when the facility will be shut down or what will happen to the inmates that are in there. but we'll continue following the story. a caltrain accident on the peninsula injured. the driver of this car near the san martine station. look at that. the car was on the tracks at about 6.30, yesterday evening when a southbound train struck it. the driver went to the hospital for treatment about 25 passengers were on the train at the time. none of them were hurt. police now looking into why the car was on the tracks in the first place.

>> it's 10, 0, 9. and in the north bay, a man who was hit by a car earlier this month in santa rosa has died of his injuries. he was hit on april 6 around 9 in the evening while he was walking in the area of corporate center parkway. and so basketbal road, he was not in a crosswalk. he was taken to the hospital where he ended up dying on sunday. police say that the driver in that crash has been cooperating with investigators and they don't think that drugs or alcohol was a factor. >> mayor london breed is in china this week. she's trying to strengthen economic ties with china's xi, met with representatives shenzhen airlines yesterday and they talked about adding direct flights to san hrancisco. the mayor says in 2023, visitors from china spent more than 630 million dollars in san francisco. and she says boosting tourism list. the entire economy creates jobs and supports local businesses. >> newsom is in the bay area

enough fremont at 75 same for you, livermore. well, oakland and richmond right at 70 degrees. each north bay temperatures mostly in the mid 70's today. a look ahead shows temperatures remaining pretty steady even with those brief stints in the low 80's inland wednesday, thursday and again on sunday, not a whole lot of movement this time around and staying dry all the way through. daria. >> thanks, allies. 10, 17 in the east bay elstree. do police have arrested a man for shooting at a passing car on moeser lane. it happened last summer and police say it was walter martinez who did it firing several shots at the car and then running away. and now he is being held at the contra costa county jail. in the .orth say a man who was hit by a car earlier this month in santa rosa has died of his injuries. he was hit on april 6 around 9 in the evening when he's walking in the area of corporate center parkway. and so basketball road and he was taken to the hospital, but he ended up dying on sunday at the time.

he wasn't in a march crosswalk or at a controlled intersection when he was hit and the driver of the car is cooperating with the investigation. >> well, a dui checkpoint in millbrae didn't find any drunk drivers, but they sure did find a lot of unlicensed ones. the san mateo county sheriff's office screened about 1300 vehicles and they cited 28 drivers for driving without a license. another 5 drivers were cited for not possessing their dmv issued driver's license that day. and while no one was found driving under the influence, the sheriff's department still wants to remind you that first-time dui offenders face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as a suspended license. so don't do it. state senator duke or testing is introducing a bill today to expand data centers in silicon valley protests. he says the bill will help sustain the growth of silicon valley's technology sector by expanding data centers across the state. he says a lack of the center's is underscoring the need right now to meet the demand of the industry and that streamlining

the approval process for the center's. we'll ensure that tech industry continues to grow and stay competitive. >> a new study says that some pregnancy complications can lead to an in carries risks of death. a decade after a woman gives birth and that includes gestational diabetes. researchers found the risk of early death remain elevated for more than 40 years. the study says that that's because pregnancy complications can lead to inflammation and other abnormalities in the s all blood vessels. and it can be hard. >> to detect the conditions can lead to other health problems that may take years or even decades to appear. and there are concerns about a growing nationwide over shortage of obgyn doctors. and it's expected it's going to be harder and arder to find them. recent report from the department of health finds that the projection is they'll be a shortage of 5,000 guns in

a little more than 5 years. and with that demand is expected to rise. so the growing shortage has been getting worse for the last decade. at least. and they say what's happening is physicians are retiring faster than we can replace them. you know, would help us if med school and i can speak yes, a little cheaper, any let kids go to med school. so difficult to get it. >> anyway, according the american medical association, close to half of doctors nationwide are 55 and older. we need to replace them. and the next 5 years, 35% of physicians in the workforce are going to be a retirement age. and then what they say that fewer med students are applying specifically to be obgyn. ends. >> in states where there are strict abortion restrictions. they're finding that. >> all right. well, boeing is pushing back against claims from a whistleblower who warns that panels on the outside of one of the planes could eventually break apart during flight. so boeing engineer sam say, oh, poor says that

mobile payment applications again, pge says they don't do this. that's not how they take payment. they also apparently the scammers threaten to disconnect power because of past due bills. if you don't make your payment immediately right then and there, they may even asking for personal information again, pge says they don't do this. that's not how they collect payment. if you get a call and it sounds fishy, be warned. it's a scam. >> next time you use google, you might not find the news you're looking for. they say that they are reducing california news website from their search results. the company is pushing back against a pending state bill that will require big tech companies to pay publishers for their content. google says the bill would change the company's business model. some lawmakers are condemning google's actions calling it abuse of power. a top psychological groups as a social media with its infinite doomscrolling is risky for young people. there's a report by the american psychological association. they put this out

yesterday it was all about the traffic on mask because it bay area blockades, these or protest by pro-palestinian. >> supporters and really disrupted traffic in 2 major spots. yeah, the first instance was on 8.80. that's when protesters chain themselves to these concrete filled barrels or 6 of them. >> traffic delayed for hours. and then on the golden gate bridge. there are more hours of protests there. traffic stopped mid span. >> because of that protest kron 4 sarah stinson takes a closer look at what happens now to those protesters. >> i implore people, please. protest were here to protect your rights to protest, but you cannot block roadways. you cannot keep emergency personnel, whether it's ambulance or law enforcement. fire department from getting out to assist other people. >> stern words from california highway patrol after arresting 38 protesters monday. they were among hundreds of people who disrupted traffic for hours at 3 different locations in the bay area. all calling

for an immediate cease-fire in gaza. 26 people got arrested after blocking all lanes on the golden gate bridge. 7 people got arrested on i-80 in oakland after a group locks their arms 280 pound concrete barrels in the middle of traffic lanes. and at the 7th street exit of i-80, 8000's of protesters walked onto the freeway. 5 people got arrested there. chp says the protesters now face a slew of charges. the most serious being conspiracy to commit a crime and false imprisonment, which surprise legal expert stephen clark. >> the chp is obviously taking this very seriously with these arrests suggesting conspiracy that could elevate these charges to a felony. the protesters on the golden gate bridge will be prosecuted by the san francisco district attorney and the protesters in the east bay will be prosecuted by the alameda county district attorney.

>> clark says it might be hard to prove the false imprisonment charges. certainly you can argue that the protesters by shutting down access on the bridge you are presenting those drivers. >> at the same time, the drivers could have got out of their car and left. so i don't know that that it's false imprisonment charge would hold up in trial. >> clark says as a former prosecutor, this will be overall a challenge in court when the defense argues for first amendment rights. i think it will be a difficult call for the da just how to handle these cases. >> because this is a very progressive community. we do respect the right free speech. but at the same time, we don't want to see public safety jeopardized. >> i'm sara stins,n reporting kron. 4 news. >> well, as for those ators on 8.80, that had their hands in these barrels filled with concrete. we're getting our first look now from the chp of what it looked like inside as they were cutting these protesters free. you can see there was this pvc piping in the middle

of all that concrete police call them sleeping dragons and that's where demonstrators will put their hands in these tubes. and in some cases handcuff themselves to another demonstrator who puts their hand on the other side of the 2. but in this case, as you can see, they were holding on to some rebar >> medal. >> and that's how they kept their hands inside. and so and chp in this video they released today shows how they had to cut into the concrete. get down to that pvc pipe. open it up. and then pull out that rebar number. that process took like hour or more just to get the first barrel don asked. and and then they had 7 barrels. now we can see why there's the demonstrators hand-holding on that metal rod until the police remove it. >> and then they could slide out the demonstrator. and what we haven't seen that before. it's 10, 34 right now. and prosecutors are charging 2 men now. >> with a deadly accident that happened when they were trying to get away from the police. the contra costa county da's

office charges patrick sheckells from oakland with 6 felony counts including murder and andrea albert ii of stockton with burglary. the da says that last month the 2 men broke into an l street, a tobacco store and stole products. then they led police on a chase eventually going the wrong way on 5.80, near the bay bridge toll plaza. and that is where the pickup the shekels was driving crashed head-on into 2 other vehicles, killing one of those drivers. there's a distressed bride to be out there in redwood city who needs her wedding dress in time for her big day. it was swiped. >> from her porch in one of these boxes that this man took. and you can see video from outside of the home. this happened last week. he stole a couple of packages and one of them a $2000 wedding dress from the front porch. there. this is last thursday night on about 8.30, on adams street near madison avenue near

downtown redwood city. if you recognize that man call the police, she like her dress back. it's not going to fit him. >> well, kron 4 is your local election headquarters and the recount has begun in the race to replace representative anna eshoo in congress and reyna harvey is in the studio with more. >> darya and james. so this recount will determine if assembly member evan low and santa clara county supervisor. joe, so many in will joinb former san jose mayor sam liccardo in that general election recount started in santa clara and san mateo counties. election workers with the santa clara county register voters. they have to recount roughly 132,000 ballots, the ballots, they have to be separated by each precinct and also in the order they came in. the job was expected to take about 5 days. but because of the limited space election workers are working in now is expected to take at least a week or up to 10 days. the recounts they aren't cheap. questor.

jonathan, the dia, a former campaign staffer for the carl's mayoral campaign has to pay $12,000 per day of the recount. the total cost an estimated $84,000. if he fails to make the daily payment, his recount request or in right then and there. so some politicians have criticized request, a recount legend. it was all a political move motivated by a desire to narrow the field of candidates to help look and his win. meantime, san mateo county also started their recount on monday. i'll send it back to bill to the desk. thanks a lot. kron 4 is your local election headquarters in southern california. senator steven bradford >> has just launched his campaign for lieutenant governor and 2026. senator bradford has served in the senate since 2016 before that he was in the assembly and served on the gardenia city council as well. and he was a member of california's reparations task force. he

says that his background of being a fighter in the legislature is going to help them in this run for lieutenant governor. >> i'm running for lieutenant governor because i think we're at place and time in the state of california we really need all levels of government working closely, kind been responsive. i've been engaged. i show up. this is the kind of job that the lieutenant governor's position is. it's not about about put your head down and doing the real work. i've done that for 26 years that i've been an elected official. >> if he's elected, senator bratcher would be the second black person to hold this role. his mentor, marvin damali was the first bradford is a democrat representing parts of la county and he is the second candidate to enter this rate. california senator, i'm sorry, treasurer fiona ma announced that she is campaigning for the spot as well. >> well, hundreds of california leaders gathering in our nation's capital right now for the 52nd annual cap to cap conference capital to

capital conference. the four-day event includes meetings with federal leaders and the end goal of all of this is to secure. hopefully billions of dollars in money to improve life. here for us in california, one on monday, advocates and lawmakers spoke about the need for economic and infrastructure investments. they also say homeless. wildfire prevention, retail theft. they were also top of mind. >> housing with services are instrumental able to to move people out permanently out of homelessness. wire businesses leaving open in san francisco while they leaving san diego. why are they leaving california? because other retail theft crisis. it's important that we continue to maintain that partnership that we have with the federal government to work collaboratively with them to ensure these lands are resilient. >> well, special guest, aol co-founder steve case is expected to take the stage today. the conference set to continue through tomorrow.
