>> our top story this half hour. the all federal correctional institute in dublin will shut down. >> this follows a years long abuse scandal at the prison. that includes the convictions and prison sentences for former warden and chaplain kron four's philippe djegal reports on what happens next. >> rampant abuse and poor living conditions have plagued federal correctional institution, dublin. now, just weeks after a u.s. district judge ordered the appointment and the special master to oversee the all-women prison in the east bay federal bureau of prisons. director cliff peters says the facility will be shuttered. this kind of a brat closure. >> feels like a total evasion of accountability to or by various incarcerated people. >> and at the candidates in a statement, peters says, quote,

over the past several years at fci, dublin, the fb o p has taken unprecedented steps and provided a tremendous amount of resources to address culture, recruitment and retention aging infrastructure and most critical employee misconduct despite these steps and resources. we have determined that fci, dublin is not meeting expected standards and that the best course of action is to close the facility. this decision is being made after ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of those unprecedented steps and additional resources inclusion in general is, of course something. i support it. >> but it needs to be accompanied releases and with community emily shapiro says instead from speaking with incarcerated people at the facility and survivors of the scandal. >> the announced closure has left inmates, family members and staff scrambling. >> shapiro has been a volunteer advocate for the

california coalition for women, prisoners for 8 years and has been visiting inmates for the past 2 years. i've heard people inside. >> early yesterday morning, people were loaded onto buses and the total chaos and confusion that and pulled it was really scary for people. they were told they had to like packed their belongings, and they only have so much they're allowed to pack. so there are also told to just throw out that they can't pack. and, you know, the cost of commissaries, they expensive. and so they're deciding between like shampoo in photos of family peters says no employees will lose their jobs with the closure and the women currently housed there will be transferred to other facilities without providing a timeline. >> adding though, that the fb o p will try to keep them as close to the release locations as possible. peters did not elaborate when asked if the

closure is permanent. philippe djegal all kron. 4 meantime, east bay congressman mark des-on-yay is commenting on the closing of the federal correctional institute in dublin. in a statement on sunny says, quote. >> the fact that we got to this point is deeply troubling. the top priorities must be the protection of the inmates in their constitutional rights. the job security of innocence staff. and we'll whistleblowers and supporting the local community. he goes on to say this closure does not right. the wrongs that occurred at the facility, which is why it is imperative that federal investigations continue end quote. >> a bill that would have banned homeless encampments from specific areas has failed within the state senate. that bill would have led to a ban on camping within 500 feet of schools, open spaces and major transit stops as well as a ban on camping on sidewalks of shelter. space is unavailable. our is available rather. it would also require cities or counties to give 3 days notice before clearing encampment.

>> disappointing obviously, you know, we worked very hard to make this a bipartisan bill. i think senator catherine blakespear also from san is taking this issue seriously. and we it just shows us that we have a lot of work to do with the committee and with the voices in opposition that, you know, in my opinion, really don't understand the goal of the bill. it's not to criminalize homelessness. >> but the real is not completely dead, least not yet. the state senator behind the bill was granted reconsideration, which means that he can resubmit the bill for approval in the public safety committee. san francisco mayor london breed continuing her trip to china after a successful visit to southern china. she was expected to arrive in beijing today where she'll meet with. >> local government leaders and airline executives after that, she's heading to shanghai to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the city's sister relationship with san

business records as part of a hush money scheme to cover up and alleged affair. he walked into court today as he did trump once again tonight. those accusations. >> that's exactly what it was. >> 11 more people still need to be selected for the jury before opening statements can begin. >> all right. now to our 4 zone forecast as we get a live look outside a stunning shot of san francisco up there in the distance that looks like t-shirt weather, lawrence. yeah, that nice. i mean, really just been some gorgeous weather around the bay area. but other part of the country, not as a lucky, you know, get very active this time of year. you get the spring start talking about tornadic activity in now. that's exactly what we're seeing across the country's midsection. you see that big swirl of low pressure spinning around there, making its way out of the planes and out ahead of it got some very strong storms that are rolling

through right now. you see the line of storms moving on by. you've got to watch is for tornadoes up across much of the area, too. and that's all going to be pushing toward the chicago area here in the they are. so so lot of activity can see all the areas being reported. some hail on the backside of that. some of thunderstorm wind gusts over 50, almost 60 miles per hour and numerous tornadoes on the backside, too. and that's we're watching for the most. certainly that's the most dangerous aspect of these storms rolling on by. and so a dangerous activity out there for tonight. reports of some of those tornadoes touching down in some funnel clouds and others. got reports of some large hail along some of the line here with these storms rolling on by their. you've got some hail of pretty decent size. so some damaging storms rolling across the country's midsection. we're going to see that continue. a tornado watch is in effect across the rapids. davenport, dubuque on iowa city as well as we're going to see that storm continues to march eastward. in fact, the storm line for tomorrow, you can see just a little further to the summit starts to include the chicago

area. the chance for some moderate outbreaks of again, another round of strong storms, thunderstorms and maybe tornadic activity by tomorrow afternoon. so caused by a huge clash in temperatures in this. what you see as we transition toward a summer like pattern, you've got the warm air down the south. we're talking upper 80's in norman. then you get the backside to get 39 degrees in casper. so the atmosphere kind of want to turn itself upside down and you get that happening. a lot of these big thunderstorms popping up across the country. guys, back to you. dramatic pictures as the city's fire department in san francisco teamed up with the highway patrol and fema to demonstrate how those search for victims after a large earthquake with the help of canine barney and his human handler, the pair search for people trapped in collapsed structures. a chp helicopter can lower the parent to a disaster zone to rapidly deploy these new assets wherever they're needed. canines are the best way to locate people in rubble and

>> and now kron 4 sports. >> there were times this season where it looked like the warriors might not even taste the postseason. and then other times it seemed like they still have what it takes to make a deep run. but tonight it all hangs in the balance. a must-win game for golden state in sacramento. >> to keep their season alive. kron. 4 sports director jason dumas joins us now from golden one center in sacramento. jason, how are the warriors feeling? >> kay's feeling like deja actually, because just a year ago, pretty much today. we're in this, the warriors playing in sacramento unknown location game with their season on the

line to be more specific. it was april 30th of last year. the warriors were here at the golden one center with their backs against the wall and they were able to get out and figure it out because, look, you know what other can they have now steve kerr and company. they are not happy that they are in this spot. they did not think they will be playing in a play-in. he reiterated that earlier 3 games because they thought they would maybe be playing in the 6 spot, the 5th spot. but here they are. this is their reality. now, just like last year and this year, the journeys might not have been the same to get to this point. but their feelings are they saying now last year the warriors had a chance to wrap up the series in 6 games at their home arena, but they dropped the ball and they had to come back to sacramento with no momentum. they put themselves in a really bad predicament. so i asked carry, what do you remember about

moving in down below tomorrow. mixture of sunshine and high clouds and a little bit warmer, too. and then this warm-up is going to continue to the middle of this week. and then we're gonna start to cool things down just a little bit of the weekend. but staying dry as we head to weekend let's break down the temperatures for tomorrow. should be a gorgeous day about 71 in the mission about 66 golden gate park. 65 degrees in daly city, 64 in half moon bay. as you get inside the bay, you'll find that nice sunshine and warmer temperatures to 70 in brisbane about 72 degrees and burning him. 75 in foster city about 76 in rebel to the south bay, enjoying temperatures up in the 70's. how about a couple low 80's by tomorrow afternoon. maybe as high as 83 in morgan hill. 80 degrees in lemore about 80 of pleasanton. 77 in hayward. you're looking at 79 degrees in danville, about 80 in concord and 78 degrees in hercules. so really some nice weather around the bay area for tomorrow. very similar, maybe just slightly cooler by a degree or 2 as we head into thursday. but the next few days, gorgeous weather outside a few more clouds cooling down over the weekend. have an important but

of duty can begin a tour of california starting in 1985. working in palm springs chico, fresno la. and finally here in the bay area where you can earn the peabody and edward r murrow awards for his reporting. now here at kron, khan has helped amplify veterans voices and he's spoken up for animals that have no voice. he's flying tails combining his skills as a pilot and compassionate storyteller to bring us some really unforgettable moments. so that's everything you see at home. what you don't see is ken's kind and generous spirit behind the camera and his willingness to be a teacher and a mentor. he's also a good friend. and that's what we're going to miss most in our newsroom. other than his killer karaoke pipes. we said it. it's out there. how baha? you always make people look good. when you put together these little training package that we're not done with you yet. yeah, we're going to be here for it another month.
