>> postal police to find the attacker even offering a reward to the public. for sarah stinson reports now from union city. >> a mail carrier assaulted and robbed at gunpoint here in union city in the middle of the afternoon. the thieves also took off with a postal key. i spoke with a postal inspector who says this could result in mail being stolen from people who live in that neighborhood where the robbery took place. for us a very high priority investigation. another u.s. postal service mail carrier attacked on the job. this time the postal employee was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in union city. it happened around 2 saturday afternoon on granada way off regions boulevard. >> union city police responded in say the mail carrier was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. postal police are working around the clock to identify and find the attacker. usps has put out

$150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people involved of the safety of letter carriers is our number one concern. jeff fitch is a postal inspector. he says people who live in this union city neighborhood should be on high alert if they see you know. >> 3, 4, weeks, credit card statements or bank statements where there's transaction they did not make. contact us or contact. union city police department fitch says in the last 4 years usps has seen an uptick in mail carrier robberies. it's been all over the bay area. we have robberies in san francisco. we've had properties here oakland. >> berkeley. below that the number of different cities just last month, kron 4 reported on postal worker being robbed in oakland. investigators shared this photo of the suspect who they're still searching for. there's $150,000 reward offered in this case as well. anybody has information that any of these robberies that we

publicized contact us at the 24 hour number, the 877-876-2455. >> if the person or people involved in this robbery are caught and convicted, they would face 2 felonies for allegedly stealing the postal people, but also assaulting the mail carrier that could result in up to 35 years behind bars. i'm sara stinson reporting in union city. back to you. >> thank you, sarah. we're following developing news in san francisco tonight where 2 people are hurt after being shot. the shooting was just before 7 tonight at palou avenue and griffith street in hunters point area. police say one person went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. the other person had less serious injuries. no word on suspects or what led to it. anyone with info about the case is asked to call san francisco police. and a reminder to stay alert. hayward, chp officers narrowly look at this. this getting hit by a car as they were trying to divert traffic running out

of the way. this is a couple nights ago that rideshare driver was trying to accept a ride request using the phone. but as you saw it crash right into the back of a chp cruiser. yeah. get out of there. no one was hurt, fortunately, but they're using this video. and this story is a reminder. >> to folks to not use your phone while driving. >> new information tonight about a former youth pastor in san jose charged with committing crimes against young women. brett franklin, by masters being charged with 6 counts of lewd acts to a girl from the time she was 8 until she was 13. he worked as the youth group director and pastor at the river church community in san jose in a report filed by the santa clara county da's office youth group members claim by master grooms teenagers took naked showers with minors on field trips and groped underage girls. in a statement to kron 4 by masters lawyer denies these allegations calling them the latest in slanderous

campaign to destroy a good citizen. he says, quote, while mister by master worked at the river, he administered on the christian ideas of health. all of these lessons were voluntary and were part of a larger curriculum. that was pretty approved by the river, including a number of parents on the board and quote, the river church also released a statement saying, quote, we're deeply saddened by these developments and continue to express our concerns, prayers and support for the young people who have bravely raised their voices for all victims of abuse and for our entire church community during these distressing times, end quote, now 2019 by master did leave that church and began working at healing grove health center, a faith-based clinic in san jose. that health center has placed by master on administrative leave, telling us here kron 4, they had no further details at this time. now by master was arrested on april, 11th booked into the santa clara county jail. his bail is currently set for

$400,000. he will be in court april 19th to ask the judge to reduce his bail. the san francisco sheriff's office says the lockdown at one of its jails will end tomorrow. this comes as 2 jails have been locked down. >> after a number of inmate attacks on deputies and staff. they say the other jail in san bruno will reopen sometime later this week after 9 members of its jail staff were assaulted by inmates. alright, weather time here. as we take a live look outside. it beautiful spring night here in the bay. the view here from the top of mount temple fights. was like 75 degrees in some spots, lawrence. yeah. how about that? it really nice. get warmer as we head in toward probably on thursday to but then. >> temperatures going to start to back off a little bit. but we're in a nice stretch now as high pressure kind of settling on in bringing us some beautiful spring weather outside looking toward the golden gate bridge. a little haze out there. some fog beginning to form along the

coastline. we'll see a little bit more that overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. right now, the temperatures not bad. 55 degrees in san francisco to 56 in oakland. 63 in san jose. 56 in livermore and 62 degrees in concord. we are looking at a changing pattern as high pressure builds in overhead. that ridge going to settle in the next couple of days. and that make for the warmest couple of days of the week. still going to see a few high clouds from time to time. just making things a little bit beautiful in the skies up above specially during the sunrise and the sunset hours. you have more color in your sky. couple high clouds out there right now. overall, though, are looking good. high pressure is going to build in for tomorrow. that is going to warm up the temperatures just a couple degrees. more think by tomorrow afternoon likely to see a couple spots in the low 80's. highlights. more protests across the bay area today over this ongoing war in the middle east today, you had. >> pro palestinian demonstrators here blocking entrances to a weapons manufacturer in the far north bay. organizers say the group is blocking the entrances to

the general dynamics, ordnance and tactical systems facility in healdsburg. they were there for more than 3 hours this morning. that company builds guns, missile rockets, ammunition. the protesters say they refuse to be a part of the quote, war machine. and sunnyvale protesters gathered outside google's headquarters there. they called on google to stop doing business with israel because according to the protesters, israel is committing genocide in gaza. sunnyvale. police say about 80 people gathered outside google starting around 10, 30 this morning while most of them left around lunchtime, 5 of the protesters stay there. they were there past 6.30, police eventually arrested them for trespassing. >> these protests, of course, come after a day of demonstrations that shutdown bay area freeways for hours tonight, we've learned those who were blocking the golden gate bridge yesterday will be

let out of jail. the pro-palestinian protesters took over the iconic bridge around 8 monday morning. they use pipes, chains and locks around their arms, making their removal difficult for law enforcement. the northbound and southbound lanes of the bridge were shut down for nearly 4 hours. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins says prosecutors must charge all 26 people arrested with clear evidence which she says they don't have >> the district attorney's office, what is required to to file charges within 48 hours of their arrest. unfortunately, due to the timing of their arrest yesterday that charging decision has to be made by 04:00pm today. at this time we anticipate having to send the case back to the chp for continued investigation. this is an active and open investigation. anyone who was falsely imprisoned on the golden gate bridge on april

teamed up with chp and fema to demonstrate how they would search for victims in the event of a large earthquake. they say canines are the best way to locate people in rubble. a chp helicopter lowered canine barney and his human handler into a disaster zone. 2 showcase their skills. >> it's a real expansion to the capabilities the fire department can utilize to deliver our mission to protect the lives of the people of san francisco. and so in this way, where bring our personnel firefighter paramedic morning canning. her search, canine barney and the resources of the california highway patrol's to work together to cops, things we couldn't have done on the road past. >> the san francisco fire department says they actually have for canines available for this type of work this thursday will mark 118 years since the 19 0, 6 earthquake rocked san francisco. >> the warrior season is over. the dubs needed to win tonight in sacramento to continue their pursuit of a playoff

>> california has not executed an inmate since 2006, but right now 15 people are on death row in santa clara county. but that could all change soon. and the district attorney says he wants to re-sentenced all of those inmates to life without parole. >> kron four's jack moment reports. >> but over time, my thinking has change. it's a new perspective on justice for a long time district attorney who spent a decade prosecuting rape and murder cases in santa clara county. jeff rosen says he no longer thinks the death penalty is justified. >> adding, well, california hasn't executed anyone since 2006 and governor gavin newsom put a moratorium on it in 2018. santa clara county still has 15 inmates on death row. >> racism and other kinds of biases have deeply affected our country since its founding. his goal now is to ask that all 15 of these individuals have their sentences changed from death to life without the

possibility of parole and for a local faith leaders such as san jose bishop oscar cantu. this is a progressive step. but are we a throwaway culture? where can simply throw away >> individuals bishop can't who recently went to alabama where he met with other bishops who support getting rid of the death penalty. yes, we do want justice to be served. >> but we also don't want to play god either. my hope is that this will help too. and a lot of the litigation around the death penalty. meantime, da rosen says he's spoken with many of the victims families in related cases, some support his efforts. >> others not so much, but for rosen justices still served as best. it can with some of the worst criminal offenders spending the rest of their lives behind bars while at the same time. >> trying to strengthen and make our justice system more fair. and the district attorney says that it's hard to tell how easy or difficult it will be because each of these cases for the 15 people

currently sitting on death row will be taken individually. so the process will take months. the district attorney tells me the first case for that first inmate on death row. it set for about 2 months from now. for now in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> 4 people are safe tonight after their boat overturned off the coast of san francisco today, the marine unit from san francisco police that set out to sea about 5 miles from the golden gate bridge. you can see the boat capsized there. police say the unit saved for people from the water. 2 of them were transported by u.s. coast guard back to shore. all 4 were taken to the hospital with some minor injuries. the boat is still out in the water. police say it will be recovered later. ed marshals beach, a person was rescued after being caught by the tides tonight. san francisco fire department using a helicopter to person to

safety. the call came in around 6 o'clock tonight about an hour later. that person was safe. they were evaluated by paramedics at the beach. >> all right. by baker beach there near the bridge. beautiful day to get out there. enjoy. >> the sites in the sun. as we look live at the golden gate. >> is it cold out there time not too cold? but those waters are cold and that's what makes it dangerous. you got to be careful. those temperatures warming up again tomorrow. probably going to sneak the 70's and the 80's by tomorrow afternoon. so a lot of folks may start flocking to the beach as we get further along in spring. we start to really warm things up outside of the water running in the 50's. so pretty cold out there. still toward the golden gate bridge. got a couple patchy fog trying to form out there right now. more than on the way overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, few high clouds up above 2 tomorrow. they're going to see a mixture of sunshine and some high clouds and warmer temperatures. the warmest day hf the week tomorrow before a cool down just a little bit into thursday. high pressure in control. that ridge should kind of a dirty rich. you've got a couple high clouds drifting over the top and otherwise staying dry as we

head toward thursday, the weekend. how about that looking good. we're going to see some sunshine and some nice weather will be a dry weekend ahead in the next week, though, things begin to change. oh, my goodness. by next thursday. how about that? the models start to paint some rain. some colder weather as we move into the following weekend. so big changes are in the works. so enjoy the day tomorrow. it's going to be nice with how about 70 degrees downtown in san francisco about 71 in the mission, a cooler along the coastline with a couple of patches of fog, sea breeze there. 69 and burlingame, about 68 brisbane. 78 san carlos. 75 in 17 of the south bay filled with 70's and some low 80's by tomorrow afternoon about 80 degrees in pleasanton. 79 in dublin, 70 in hayward, a beautiful 76 in moraga and 75 degrees in orinda. so really nice numbers running above the average for this time of year and do so for the next couple of days. so enjoy it while we those numbers going to stick around for a couple days in the thursday. cooling down just slightly little more pronounced cooling into the weekend, but not get really cold. not like last week in a staying dry this weekend. next

week, though, yet models are starting to shift again. we're talking about a chance of rain as we get the following thursday and friday of next week. let's not get ahead of i know. let's just enjoy this while we have thank you, in the east bay, the oakland ballers say they're hopeful as the city council is considering the teams plan to renovate a park, they want to invest. 1.6 million dollars to the ballers into raimondi park for their upcoming season and it's getting close. the baller say they want the park to be a central hub for community gatherings, outdoor activities and family-friendly events. the city council's final decision on this will take place. april 30th, the team's first home game is june 4th. so there is not much time. yeah. >> meantime, oakland is honoring the oakland high school girls and the oakland technical high school boys teams for winning the cf state championships for basketball
