>> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. now on the kron. 4 morning news. a former youth pastor in san jose is charged with crimes will tell you about that and were also taken to the east bay where alameda county district attorney pamela price speaking out now as the move to recall her moves forward and no charges yet for the protesters who shut down the golden gate bridge for hours. we will explain why. good morning. i'm daria and i'm james. before we get to all that, though, let's step outside. we've got a beautiful shot here over san francisco. me. that's lots of sun and more of yeah, good morning. we've got lots of it ahead of us here. absolutely right today, actually going to be even warmer than yesserday was for many spots behind me. we hit the bay bridge. beautiful sunrise there. and this is your view in the south bay right now.

>> a few high clouds but not blocking out the brightness and even brighter than yesterday. up in the north bay after yesterday was a little bit of fog up there. temperatures are currently in the 40's to 50's are colder spots up in the north bay currently like santa rosa and fairfield. well, alameda mild. 55 degrees to kick off this morning. nice and bright there. as as we get the day started, some 70's to low 80's later on making today a little warmer than yesterday was right. all right, john, thank you for is gorgeous outside this morning. if you're traveling. >> traffic is gradually building over the past few hours, but we're not seen any accidents on those bridges to start 90 minute ride into the city this morning. san mateo bridge around 18. so we start to slow down a little bit 80 in the east bay getting on that bridge 12 minutes along richmond fell bridge golden gate bridge just short of 22 and along 88 gilman in berkeley. we do have an accident there seems a little slow crockett out towards the maze. a 30 minute ride this morning during back to you.

thanks. a lot rain let's get to the golden gate bridge situation now. no charges yet against the protesters who shut down the bridge on monday as they were blocking all lanes for hours. now, we've heard from san francisco district attorney, brooke jenkins who says that. >> more evidence apparently is still needed before she can forward with these cases. but we know we covered it live for hours on monday and there are plenty of videos of it. so what evidence do they need? michael thomas is live with some answers at the golden gate bridge. good morning, michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. you know, when it comes to that decision from san francisco district brooke jenkins to not me forward with these charges, it comes as a surprise, as you both said, there was numerous videos in california highway patrol also listed numerous offenses of the people that they arrested for blocking the golden gate bridge. we've got video up on your screens. you can see just exactly what we're talking about. this was monday morning at around 8.30, or so when the pro-palestinian protesters

took over the golden gate bridge, stopping traffic both ways in total. 26 protesters were arrested by chp for false imprisonment, unlawful assembly and conspiracy to commit a crime. protesters used both pipes chains and locks to really keep themselves there on the bridge, causing a little bit more, have havoc for law enforcement to get them off the road and get traffic moving. and despite the havoc that it did cause will san francisco da, brooke jenkins says there was not enough clear evidence to charge these 26 protesters causing her to miss the 48 hour deadline filing charges adding that she needed video of the arrested. protesters caught in the act and says if the public has any of those videos to send them to her office says she can pass it along to the chp who is now essentially heading that. but take a listen to what she had to say regarding the protests on monday. >> i understand that people are passionate about issues that are going on in the world right now. and they need a venue in a vehicle for that expression. but they have to

do. they have to express their views in a way that is safe to the public. we're not going to allow people to endanger other members of the community and of our society in order to express those views. >> now, as of this morning, those who were arrested have been released from jail. and it wasn't just here at the golden gate bridge across the bay over in alameda county, pro-palestinian protesters also shut down the northbound lanes of causing traffic to be at a standstill for miles and hours after submitting their arms into oil barrels and sitting across the freeway, stopping that traffic. however, alameda county district attorney pamela price is yet to make any statement on if those protesters will be charged moving forward. what will happen. but back out here live this morning again, the san francisco da is asking if anyone does have any of those specific videos to send them to her office, that she can pass them along to chp. as we get more details on what is to come when it comes to those protesters will keep you

updated. that's a very latest reporting live this morning from the golden gate bridge michael thomas will send it back to life. and thus to ok, well, it looks good right thanks a lot, michael. >> time now 704. meanwhile, pro palestinian demonstrators also blocked entrances to a weapons manufacturer. name general dynamics, ordnance and tactical systems in healdsburg. you see them there yesterday the organizers say they blocked the entrances for more than 3 hours because the company builds. >> guns, rockets and ammunition and they say they don't want to be part of the war machine. also in the south bay, protesters gathered yesterday outside of the google facility in sunnyvale. they want google to stop doing business with israel because of what's going on in the middle east. >> and this was not. at the mountain view headquarters. >> sunnyvale police say about 80 people gathered outside the google facility about 10, 30 in the morning. most of them left by lunchtime. however, there were 5 that remain until

after 6.30, and police eventually arrested them trespassing. >> in the south bay, a former youth pastor in san jose now charged with committing crimes against young women. brett franklin by master is facing 6 counts of committing lewd acts with a girl from this time. she was 8 until she was 13. he worked as the youth group director and pastor at river church community in san jose. according to the santa clara district attorney's office, youth group members claimed by master groomed teenagers and performed lewd acts on them. in a statement kron 4 by masters lawyer denies the allegations claiming they're part of a slanders campaign to destroy his client's reputation. he says, quote, while mister by master worked at the river, he ministered on the christian ideas of health. all the lessons work voluntary and were part of a larger curriculum that was approved by the river, including a number of parents on the board and, quote. now the river church also released a statement saying, quote, we

are deeply saddened by these developments and continue to express our concerns, prayers and support for the young people who have bravely raised their voices for all victims of abuse for our entire church community during these distressing times and quote, now in 2019 by master left the church for a job at healing grove health center, a faith-based clinic in san jose. he's currently on administrative leave there by master will be in court this friday when he's expected to ask the judge to reduce his $400,000 bail. >> it's 706. and in the east bay of baseball league is trying to rebuild because they were burglarized over the weekend. the junior optimist baseball leagues stuff was stolen about $15,000 worth of equipment. plus, fees vandalized some of the property as well. so now they have to fix and replace all of that. they're looking for help. they have a gofundme set up to try to rebuild. so today we are here.

>> asking for what's right is for the board of supervisors to give us a special election in the next couple of months and not have us wait until november. those are the leaders behind the effort to recall the county district attorney in alameda at pamela price. they showed up to the board of supervisors meeting yesterday. >> and they show that they have enough signatures for the recall. and monday, the registrar of voters validated about 75,000 signatures. and so now it is up to the board to set a date for the recalled. the board's next meeting is on april. 30th. >> okay. well, even though recall supporters have collected enough signatures, it's still not guaranteed. that recall election will actually happen. and that is because prices attorney says that. >> the recall effort was illegal to begin with kron four's. dan kerman has more. embattled alameda county district attorney pamela price may soon be going to war with their own county. the reason the attempt to recall her, we believe that the recall is the

waggle jim sutton is the attorney for the pamela price campaign. >> well, the registrar of voters says enough valid signatures have been gathered to move the recalled forward. sutton says the recall is illegal because the county did not follow its own rules dictated by the county's charter. that's county charter is very clear that. >> the registrar house to verify all the signatures within 10 days. >> sutton says instead the county took more than 5 weeks to verify the signatures. another problem, some signature gatherers were from outside the county. another violation of the charter. the county must comply with the law to say what she has to comply with the law. >> and when the county charter is so clear about these roles and we see that from the beginning, the county seems to picking and choosing which. rules and the law was to follow and which it doesn't want to follow. the registrar of voters is expected to certify the vote at the board of supervisors meeting april

30th. >> it's at that time. the board can also set a date for the recall election itself. district attorney plans to before that time asked the board of supervisors to not schedule action because it's illegal. if the board moves forward anyway, it's likely district attorney pamela price. we'll sue the county. it's a writ of mandate against the county. asking the court to tell the county that it cannot move forward with this election because it violates the county charter. >> we reached out to the alameda county counsel's office for comment. they didn't get back to us. dan kerman kron. 4 news. kron 4 is your local election headquarters and santa clara county has started recounting its ballots in the race to replace anna eshoo in congress. >> at the moment, assemblyman evan low and santa clara county supervisor joe submitting and are tied for second place. the recount will decide who moves on to face. former san jose mayor sam liccardo on the november ballot recounting the 150,000

ballots in santa clara county will not be done by hand, but rather by machine, which isn't cheap. but it is fast. >> the estimated duration of this recount can last anywhere between one and 2 weeks. and we require a $12,000 deposit daily. additional fees can incur each state depending on what the requester wants examine. >> the person who asked for the recount, jonathan padilla reportedly has ties to former san jose mayor sam liccardo. padilla reportedly was a finance director of the carters 2014 campaign for mayor and is apparently a donor for his current congressional campaign. the carter hasn't responded yet to requests for comment. but padilla claims he asked for the recount on behalf of the low 7 low. but most campaign says that's not true in any event. the fact that some and lower tide is historic and even people at the registrar's office are amazed. >> yeah, this is and extraordinary event yeah,

>> 14 right now and i just put shades it's yeah. start season sun is getting pretty intense here. john, good morning you know what we get to the 70's. it's like way know. 70's is fine. but today it is the low 80's. and that is a step up for sure. so break in that sweat for spots like the south bay yeah, it's going to be one of the warmer ones we fell so far looking outside at downtown san francisco. a few clouds rolling through. it's not blocking out the sun already, which is going to warm us pretty quickly today. a clear morning for the north bay. nice to see that sunshine for you after your past couple mornings brought the fog today is going to be a dry one and that high pressure. it's is not going anywhere anytime soon. so we're settling in for a prolonged round of sunshine, warmer and drier weather. now the end of april, long-range forecaster indicating could come along with the switch up.

that's still a ways off, though. so for now, we'll just focus on the steady trend of weather that we're going to continue to in many cases enjoy specially for those of you that miss the warmth today. lots of sunshine tomorrow. much the same in both today and tomorrow will also bring those 70's to low 80's. today's daytime highs in the city reaching the low 70's for mission in financial district. well, 60's holding on for most of the coastline temps along the bay shore for the most part, back up into the mid 70's today. really comfortable range. pretty toasty for the south bay. you've got those low 80's back, campbell and san jose getting up to 81 degrees today close to the 80's for fremont. walnut creek conquered and danville, each up to 79 oakland, you'll be at 75 will antioch at 78. same for you in napa. looking ahead tomorrow, just as warm as today. after that, we do cool off just a little bit into the weekend. some mid 70's for warmest of temperatures by friday and saturday. really nice forecast all the way through right now.

on justice for a long time district attorney who spent a decade prosecuting rape and murder cases in santa clara county. jeff rosen says he no longer thinks the death penalty is justified. >> adding, well, california hasn't executed anyone since 2006 and governor gavin newsom put a moratorium on it in 2018. santa clara county still has 15 inmates on death row. >> racism and other kinds of biases have deeply affected our country since its founding. his goal now is to ask that all 15 of these individuals have their sentences changed from death to life without the possibility of parole and for a local faith leaders such as san jose bishop oscar cantu. this is a progressive step. but are we a throwaway culture? where can simply throw away >> individuals bishop can't who recently went to alabama where he met with other bishops who support getting rid of the death penalty. yes, we do want justice to be served. >> but we also don't want to

play god either. my hope is that this will help too. and a lot of the litigation around the death penalty. meantime, da rosen says he's spoken with many of the victims families in related cases, some support his efforts. >> others not so much, but for rosen justices still served as best. it can with some of the worst criminal offenders spending the rest of their lives behind bars while at the same time. >> trying to strengthen and make our justice system more fair. and the district attorney says that it's hard to tell how easy or difficult it will be because each of these cases for the 15 people currently sitting on death row will be taken individually. so the process will take months. the district attorney tells me the first case for that first inmate on death row. it set for about 2 months from now. for now, we're in san jose jack moment. kron 4 news. we're going to take a break 7.22. is the time. but coming up, detectives have identified the body that was found in the oakland estuary.

what police have arrested 2 men from fairfield for allegedly stealing buckets of paint. so the theft happened at the home depot sunday night. police say daniel clark and thomas hodges used of magnetic device to remove the security devices and then stole the buckets of paint fact. officers say they found several more buckets of paint in their truck along with cash. both men have been arrested on suspicion of organized retail theft. >> in the north bay novato police are reminding you about a closure in this neighborhood that you see here in effect, portsmouth drive bloke, brookline drive and chesapeake lane. and they're going to be closed intermittently today between 8 in the morning and 8 at night. so they want to avoid that areas. they do some roadwork in the bay. the pittsburgh city council is doing some roadwork as well. it's about a half million dollars to make things safer for pedestrians and a reminder to to stay alert. hayward chp officer narrowly missed. watchd this. >> being hit by a car. as they

not sure how long that's going to go on for. but if you are taking bart right now, at least are not stopping at mayfair because police activity. also seen reports on the bay bridge. there is an accident right near the toll plaza. but that's been there for about 20 minutes drive times of state around 20 minutes might be a minor collision drive times. not impacting much. 22 minutes on the san mateo bridge, a 80 to 101 richmond center fell bridge around 13 golden gate bridge. looking good. about 30 minutes and along 80, we're tracking accident. as at gilman in berkeley, they just clear that off the highway. but you get residual delays. still a 42 minute ride crockett down towards the maze. all right. back to you. thank you. re not. there was a lot of chaos and confusion and advocates as that's happening. still now an all-women's prison in dublin that set to close. yeah. that's the one that federal officials announced yesterday was going to be shut down after a year's long abuse scandal with kron four's philippe djegal. now to explain. >> emily shapiro has been a volunteer advocate for the

california coalition for women prisoners for 8 years and has been visiting inmates at federal correctional institution. dublin for the past 2 years. she's concerned by the abrupt announcement, but the troubled facility is closing their way. that it's happening is a bad thing. just weeks after a u.s. district judge ordered the appointment of a special master to oversee the all-women prison in the east bay federal bureau of prisons. director colette peters says the facility will be shuttered. one plagued by rampant abuse and poor living conditions. the back of opiate, the 19 that the prison is closed, doesn't feel like they're admitting their culpability in harming people inside. >> i feel what's happening is. to me, i believe essentially trying to silence and disappear. the people who

really put a lot on the line to call out the abusive abuses effort. in a statement, peters says, quote, over the past several years at fci, dublin, the fb o p has taken unprecedented steps and provided a tremendous amount of resources. >> to address culture, recruitment and retention aging infrastructure and most critical employee misconduct. >> despite these steps and resources, we have determined that fci, dublin is not meeting expected standards and that the best course of action is to close the facility. this decision is being made after ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of those unprecedented steps and additional resources like silent seen in dispensing blowers and >> putting an end to the bad press surrounding the prison without actually address seen the harmons. colette peters says no employees will lose their jobs with the closure and the women currently house.

there will be transferred to other facilities without providing a timeline. we're defining the closure as permanent. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> and then there are the lockdowns happening at jails, the san francisco sheriff's office says that the lockdown at one of 2 jails is going to be ending today. the 2 jails were locked down after a number of inmates attacked deputies and staff the jail in san bruno is going to reopen later this week after 9 members of the jail staff there were assaulted by inmates. >> let's go to the east bay now where detectives in san pablo have identified the body of a woman found back in september in the oakland estuary and they believe she was killed by her son in law. the body belongs to 75 year-old cute. ran. police been looking for her and her 4 year-old daughter. so live since they both went missing back in september now, last month, phuket vo was arrested and investigators say vo called police telling them that the women took off in a car after an argument. but

police later found that car in oakland and voteawas behind the wheel. police say they gathered more evidence and they believe now that he was involved in the death of both women and their disappearance. the body of polis still hasn't been found. well, police are investigating now after the body of a man washes ashore in the berkeley marina. they say that body was found last saturday evening. they think it belongs to a man in his 50's. investigators are looking into whether the death is suspicious or not. we'll keep you updated as we find out more. >> it's 7.34, and a mail carrier with the united states postal service was attacked and robbed at gunpoint in units. and police now working to find the attacker even offering a reward. >> kron 4 sarah stinson tells us what happened. >> a mail carrier assaulted and robbed at gunpoint here in union city in the middle of the afternoon. the thieves also took off with a postal key. i spoke with a postal inspector who says this could result in mail being stolen

from people who live in that neighborhood where the robbery took place. this for us a very high priority investigation. another u.s. postal service mail carrier attacked on the job. this time the postal employee was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint in union city. it happened around 2 saturday afternoon on granada way off regions boulevard. union city police responded in ay the mail carrier was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. postal police are working around the clock to identify and find the attacker. usps has put out $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people involved of the safety of letter carriers is our number one concern. jeff fitch is a postal inspector. he says people who live in this union city neighborhood should be on high alert if they see you know. >> 3, 4, weeks, credit card statements or bank statements where there's transaction they did not make. contact u.s. or

contact. union city police department fitch says in the last 4 years usps has seen an uptick in mail carrier robberies. it's been all over the bay area. we had robberies in san francisco. we've had properties here oakland. >> berkeley. that number of different cities just last month kron 4 reported on postal worker being robbed in oakland. investigators shared this photo of the suspect who they're still searching for. there's a $150,000 reward offered in this case as well. anybody has information that any of these robberies that we publicized contact us at the 24 hour number, the 877-876-2455. >> if the person or people involved in this robbery are caught and convicted, they would face 2 felonies for not only stealing the postal people, but also assaulting the mail carrier that could result in up to 35 years behind bars. i'm sara stinson reporting in union city. back

to you. >> its 7.37, and the north bay, a memorial is growing now for 2 teenage girls who were killed over the weekend. and napa. police have made 3 arrests so far. john nicholson, junior of allay is charged with 2 counts of murder and jessica whitton and june of a ball of santa rosa. they've been charged with aiding in a felony. those are the arrests getting attention of those who are visiting the memorial for the 17 19 year-old girls who were killed. >> because it is sad and they see little girls should not. this should not happen to them is where live and eat and sleep. you should never be scared to come outside. the memorial is a testament to. >> how strong the community feels about this kind of thing belong here. hopefully this doesn't go on any further. >> there have been arrests, as we said, 3 people. but still they're looking for witnesses in that shooting to come forward. a state bill that
