the port of oakland says it sees nothing wrong with adding the words san francisco bay to open airport's name by the city of san francisco says they do have an issue with it. they actually filed a federal lawsuit saying that the new name would cause confusion and chaos for travelers, especially those who are not from the area remain not actually even speak the language so san francisco's city attorney david chiu says he wants to work with oakland's board to meet a middle ground and try to have some conversations about other alternative names that they have saying that it would be less confusing for people. now, oakland officials say they did a survey. they spoke with customers and that the customers say they like the new name change. but the city attorney says that's not what he >> we had a chance finally to take a look at their so-called customer survey. and it was riddle with all sorts of issues. it was essentially a survey that push respondent's toward the answers that they wanted. it didn't give them the direct choice. from our perspective, we think any

reasonable person. here's a name. san francisco international airport next. a san francisco bay, oakland international airport. well understand how clearly similar those 2 names are and the likely confusion that those names will create. and that's a standard for a clear infringement case. >> oakland officials with the airport say that the letter from david chiu with the offer to collaborate about a different name here for the airport will be talked about in today's board meeting, which is scheduled at 1 o'clock. they also add that the was, quote, prematurely filed. now back out here live, we are inside. so we're going to chat with some of these travelers and you heard from 8 o'clock. but i will say what i've heard from 2 people already they think that the name should stay. oakland international airport it back to you to live in the studio for any traveler and we all are can see that i'd be pretty king nice interesting. all right, michael, thank you. all

tenant. google. they have plenty of other offices. so you're saying what's the big deal? well, for the city of san francisco, this is just one more. it because san francisco over the past couple years, its been dealing with a public relations problem with so many businesses leaving entirely or leaving many of its locations and only leading some locations behind which is what google is doing. take a look at your screen in the overnight hours we reached out to google and they reached back. this is what they are saying as far as their move from this location in san francisco, they said, as we've said before, we're focused on investing in real estate efficiently to meet the current and future needs of our hybrid workforce, we remain committed to our long-term presence in san francisco. so right now, is there still coming to this location? and they have been for 6 years. not sure how many

he was slashing cars in the parking lot of the hillsborough community center when a person who was in their car got out and was stabbed in the hand sorrow who then took off. so he's facing multiple charges now including attempted murder. if they find him. >> well, dozens of people gathered in berkeley to support the superintendent of the berkeley unified school district and kia forte. more sell testified before congress on what's being done to handle the rise in anti-semitism in schools proper. sarah stinson has the story. >> dozens of parents and community members rallied at the old city hall in berkeley wednesday in support of the superintendent and the kia forte. more thelle. they thought she did an amazing job. more thought was one of 3 school leaders who are grilled by u.s. house republicans about how they're handling a rise in anti-semitism since the conflict erupted between israel and palestine. in october. we have. >> teachers that are teaching hate to our kids and showing it students being a feeling fearful for this. do they are

the founder, this transfer to another school the u.s. department of education is investigating. be usd over accusations. the district has failed to address, quote, nonstop severe and persistent bullying of jewish students. more thelle defended the district's actions. if we have a concern or complaint about anti-semitism any form of hate. >> we take it very seriously. we investigate and we take action pending the outcome of that investigate hours after the congressional hearing, community members rallied in support of the district. people held up signs that read defended berkeley schools and congress fund education, not genocide. and the fact that headlines are the headlines, this liz jackson is a jewish mom of 2 kids in berkeley unified. she and other parents at the rally say they feel education should not be

censored. >> we teach them that. it's not safe to talk about genocide on we're in danger ourselves and we're in danger. her problem is that their representatives and many people, parents and community members think that only one perspective should be taught. and the other uide is all about terrorism. and that's not right. it's racist. back in november, more than 12,000 parents and community members in berkeley center letter. >> to the board of education and superintendent complaining about anti-semitism in the classroom. we reached out to some of those parents, but they could not speak to us in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the newsroom. back to you. >> and also in berkeley, there's you see, and the university is moving forward with the graduation this weekend, even though there is a growing protest encampment on the campus. cal leaders have obviously over the years say they do with many protests

and they've always been able to deal with whatever comes their way. a lot of parents have come to town for the past couple of days. they are ready to celebrate the graduation, which is saturday morning as scheduled at memorial stadium. graduates will get 4 tickets and to similar to football games. you know, they're not going to have backpacks can of a banner or sign or anything. just clear bag policy. the school says that it is ready to handle whatever they think they've got a handle on it and they value the importance of going through with this graduation. >> graduates, their friends in the family and their families. should be able to enjoy one of the most meaningful days in their lives. we haven't made any changes in our plans, but we understand that there is a possibility of disruption this year, like every year in the past. >> and so they'll have a graduation and also still be hosting those protesters who are calling on the university to divest from israel. a school spokesperson says that cal is not divesting and there will be no academic boycott of

>> 7.50, right now and it is breezy out there. you see those bushes to your left, him moving in the wind. we've got a little bit of that this morning, although it's not the direction that the coastal communities would want come yao still warm even overnight. >> yeah, oh, my gosh. that we were talking about how we left the windows open last night and stepped outside this morning. it was still feeling kind of warm out there. this is a very warm, dry wind. it's that offshore wind which later in the year can result in high fire danger since we've seen so much recent rainfall. that's not as much of a concern, but what it does is push is marine layer way away from the coastline. so that means spots like cap moon bay. this is going to be one of those days. you can lay out on the beach and not feel chilly in the least, but it is going to be warm out there all across the bay all the way to the coastline. we do have some wind advisories for just less than another hour until 08:00am this morning. bit of good news here is winds are relaxing today. we are still seeing a breezy morning, especially for the north bay with 45 mile per hour gusts

offshore winds, of course. but winds do come down into the afternoon. so not excessively windy rest of the day today. this wind is sparked up by that low to the east, the height of the west and the pressure gradient in the middle is creating quite the aggressive winds that is also helping to warm things up, in fact, are extended outlook into next week is still showing warmer than average weather. so this continues through the weekend and into next week with temperatures climbing well into the 80's, even the 90's all the way through. as today, 70's to a tease for you. even 80 in daly city close to that in half moon bay. well, temps elsewhere in the bay area will consistently be in the 80's yet again. our hottest spots today are areas like redwood city conquered in santa rosa. each up to 88. well, san jose not far behind 87 heyward up to oakland in the mid 80's for your highs. north bay temperatures also solidly mid to upper 80's this afternoon.

let's get you look ahead. tomorrow will actually be our hottest day for inland areas. i'm expecting a few of us to hit 90 degrees could very well on saturday, too. the difference for coastal spots is tomorrow. that fog pushes back in. that's going to drop the coast from the 70's back to the 50's and 60's for the rest of the forecast. after today. so if you want to beat each day today is the one for you for the rest of us. it's pretty much hot all the way through this forecast. re to. all right, john, thank you for that. a little traveling along the peninsula. snapshot of the bay area right now. >> you can see drive times are pretty light. but over in the east bay, 80 traveled to emeryville highway 40 in the act. they 82 hayward. things are starting to build just a little bit. there. bridges, accidents, but traffic nonetheless, 90 minute ride into the city right now. our san mateo bridge just short of 20 minutes checking on things along 80 crockett out towards the maze. about 30 minutes. you can take some possible avenue if you want to maneuver around that. and a 42 minute ride along highway 4 darya. james, back to you.

>> all right. thank you very much. rain to 7.18, is the time and for your money this morning, the 30 year mortgage rate falls for the first time since march. and gen z is leaning credit cards to get joya doss standing by live at the nasdaq to explain. good morning. joya. >> james, good morning to you. good morning, everyone. that's right. gen z's credit card balances are surging last year. young adults ages 20 to 24 had roughly $600 more on their credit cards in the same age group did back in 2013. that's according to trans union. you can blame it on rising food and housing costs as well as student loans, all of which have contributed to their debt loads. well, on the flip side, mortgage rates have dropped to 7.1 8% last week after 4 straight weeks of gains were talking about the there applications rose for her purchases and re 5. but still, mortgage rates are more than double what they were at the end of 2021. uber missed the mark as an early easter and weakness in latin america has cut into its ridership.

still customer orders for cars were up 20% from a year ago. in the ashes, investors have become increasingly focused on whether or not uber can sustain some double digit growth numbers with its new product offerings. finally, younger americans are feeling the pinch from inflation with 54% say that rising food costs have hit them the hardest. the findings are part of a recent cnbc generation lab survey. when asked exactly in their budget where inflation affected them. the most respondents chose food by a pretty significant margin with rent coming in at number 2, live from the nasdaq market site. i'm joy das. back to you, james. all right, joy, thank you very much. 7.19 is the time in the east bay. there are questions now. >> about the steering on an electric vehicle. it was a vinfast that crash in pleasanton killing an entire family we have right now. kron four's dan kerman takes a closer look at where the investigation stands >> it was 2 weeks ago when a family of 4 was killed on foothill road near stone ridge

drive when the vehicle they were driving, lost control, hit a pole and then crashed into a tree before bursting into flames. the vehicle in question vinfast a new entry into the electric vehicle market. now an unidentified person is filed a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration or nitsa describing what appears to be this crash and complaining about the car's steering system. the complaint seems to come from the owner of the 2023 vinfast vf 8 who admits to having steering problems before loaning the card to a co-worker who died in the crash. the complaint says the steering wheel automatically maneuvered to the right direction. however, the contact was able to regain control of the steering wheel and maneuvered into the correct lane. the context stated the failure recurred where the lane assist was turned on by default and it would automatically move the steering wheel. the contact was concerned that the

failure, rick heard while the co-worker was driving, that raises questions about the vehicles, lane assist feature the way these link keeping assist systems generally work. >> is you have a camera that's mounted behind the wind above the mirror. typically that's looking forward. looking looking ahead at the road and it's looking for the lane lines. the lane markings and sending that signal. it certainly recognizes the land markings will send that signal electronic control unit vehicle that is tied to your steering. sam abuelsamid is an auto industry analyst with guidehouse insights. he says it's not unusual for an automaker to have issues when they launch a new vehicle, especially. >> when it has new features and technology, it's designed to keep you in the land. however, you know, the all need to be calibrated properly. the camera needs to be calibrated the steering and will need to be calibrated and it could be that what's with

>> this week is national nurses week and today. >> a group of nurses at laguna honda hospital will be picketing. they are going to be gathering outside the hospital from 2 to 4 in the afternoon asking the city to take action and hire more staff before admitting more patients. the nurses say this is in order to protect and improve the quality of patient, a patient care. they are hopeful that they'll reach an agreement with the city, but they say if not, they are prepared to strike. >> also happening today, the california public utilities commission will vote on an increase to your electricity bills. the commission will review a proposal that would require most residents to pay a new $24.15. fixed utility

charge. that charge would be u% added on top of your electricity usage. now under the proposal, consumption based rates would then be reduced from 5 to $0.7 per kilowatt hour to try help offset that fixed charge. state senate republicans are opposed to this fix charge. they say consumers will see an increase of about $300 a year on their bills. if it goes through, protesters are expected to be at today's vote, which is set to happen at about 11 o'clock this morning. for your health this morning. close to 20% of mothers within a year of giving birth will experience some type of postpartum depression. that's all according to the national institutes of health, postpartum depression is depression. you experience after your child is born, it can include questioning year capability. is apparent feeling disconnected with your newborn and having intrusive thoughts. experts say in addition to depression, many mothers also suffer from postpartum anxiety that often goes unreported. you have this idea of like. >> right when you give birth

could decide to divert tells case out of criminal court and into a mental health treatment program. instead, if the judge rules in the favor of the defense tell, though, would be freed from jail immediately. and once he completes to your program, his record would be cleared. the man behind a double hit and run who led police on a wild pursuit through san francisco has now been identified. police say 54 year-old jefferson, rodney, was behind the wheel of a blue and white mustang. you see it there. it hit 2 pedestrians. one of the tender law and the other, a 14 year-old girl in north beach. she was crossing the street at school. police chased rodney for about an hour and a half before it finally all came to an end. it green and the barca darrow. we're told both people who are hit will be okay. the teenage girl, though, did suffer a fractured shoulder and ankle. so she's still in the hospital. rodney's been booked on multiple charges. >> and 75 pounds for is your local election headquarters

and there's a big fight brewing over a major ballot measure that would make it more difficult for local and state governments to raise taxes. yeah. the california supreme court officially took up a lawsuit calling on justice is to remove the measure from the ballot. >> our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has the details. meeting in san francisco justices tn the california supreme court heard arguments supporting and opposing the taxpayer protection and government accountability act. we're tpa. they specifically must decide whether to take it off the november ballot. the proposed measure already qualified for the upcoming november ballot with more than 1 million signatures turned supporters note, if passed, the measure would require voters to approve every new state tax increase or new state fee proposed by the state legislature or local governments. it would also change the voter threshold for local citizen run tax initiatives from a simple majority to at least two-thirds majority needed to but governor gavin newsom and democratic members of the

legislature say the measure is illegal because they believe it would significantly revise the california state constitution. it would prevent government from doing its job. that's why newsom says he filed a lawsuit asking the california supreme court to consider removing the measure from the november 2024 ballot. attorney mark or printing represented the governor during oral arguments at the high court. if taxing were subject to voter approval. >> it might become impossible and it would certainly be delayed for for the legislature to try pass a balanced budget, raise revenues that are necessary on the other side, attorney thomas hi-tech represented the measure's proponents, including the howard jarvis taxpayers association. >> they want the measure to remain on the ballot, our constitution since its inception. >> has stated that all political power inherent in the people. >> and what tpa does its recent war, not only the people's power to have check

and balance on that requires the legislature to be part of that process. that's accountability. assembly speaker robert remus and former senate president pro tempore toni atkins signed onto the lawsuit urging the court to strip the measure from the ballot. they wrote the amount of harm this measure could cause is vast and would hamper local government in our state's ability to function. but republican assembly minority leader james gallagher disagrees. he says the governor is trying to take away the voters ability to decide for themselves. he's fine with taking away your right to vote. >> on the ballot in november. so, look, i think people see the park are seeing there just not buying his book. >> now the ball is in the court of the 7 justices on the state supreme court. among their options. they could strike it from the ballot, which means it would not go before the voters in november. >> or they could do some variation allowed to go to the people for a vote on november. 5th, but maybe take one or more provisions out. yes, this is a precedent setting case. however, they decided in the

sunday. the medical examiner is calling this death suspicious. no arrests have been made and the victim's identity hasn't been made public just yet. we'll keep you updated. meanwhile, on the peninsula, a registered offender is arrested in san mateo county on monday on suspicion of possessing child. the sheriff's office says they searched alexander jessops home in the area of emerald hills and found that child. they say he was booked into the maguire correctional facility for failing to register as a offender and on suspicion of possessing obscene material involving a minor. they say he was also found to be in violation of his probation. >> it's 7, 40 and in the south bay, 2 children had to be taken to the hospital because of a high levels of carbon monoxide that was found at their middle school sunrise middle school in san jose. fire crews got there. >> yesterday morning, the u.s. several people on campus said they had a hard time breathing. and the crews were able to find where that carbon dioxide was coming from. >> and they took care of it
