route, but they do know that he will attend a fundraiser at 11 o'clock at portola valley. and that's where they have announced that they will be there and look at the secret service right there. the man with the beanie, he is secret service. now, let me show you video. president biden arriving in town yesterday. he came in, landed at moffett field and in drove to san francisco. obviously lot of security. he drove down the marina. secret service was down there as well. he is in town just for today to events. it is a fundraiser. it's not that he's not going to meet with the public know speeches. these are fundraisers because he is looking to raise as much money as he possibly can, according to political experts, they will have to raise billions of dollars as they mount up their fight against former president donald trump. mister biden. he was actually in town a couple of months ago in february when he met with the pelosi's and

he also had a fundraiser at that particular time. once he wraps up here, he will head to seattle and you guessed it, another fundraiser and then he probably will head back to washington, d.c., in the meantime, as far as the public is concerned, you will be caught in a traffic mess because street closures are all over the place. i mentioned portola valley so they will have heavy police presence in that area. not to mention taylor and pow. they have shut down. obviously the cable cars they can't come through here. so buses going around this particular location, the fundraiser will happen at 11 o'clock and it would not be surprising. they don't know which route he will leave the firm but it would not be surprising if protesters are also here meeting the president as he leaves the hotel. back to you. >> all right. we'll thank you very much. yesterday the president was in silicon valley campaigning, first lady jill biden is in the bay area as well. she attended a

fundraiser in canfield for county's teacher of the year honors and she spoke at that fund-raiser, not talk about politics but celebrating teachers. joe biden heads to southern california today while the president stays here for his event. it's 603. and breaking news from overnight. firefighters battled a major fire at this commercial building at 2 o'clock this morning on millman drive in fremont. the fire department show share these pictures with us when they got there. the fire was already burning through the roof. they were able to knock it out about an hour by 03:00am still on the scene, though, throughout the morning monitoring activity and mopping up in investigating. all right, 604, is the time. let's turn to another one of our big stories that we're following. oakland international airport has a new name. >> and it's a 2 for one because it also comes with a lawsuit san francisco. now going to be ratcheting up their tensions between just

going oh, clock has. it's not open anymore at san francisco bay. >> oakland internet report was dan thorn has more. >> san francisco city attorney david chiu has already sued on behalf of the city. and on wednesday he sent a letter to the port of oakland urging them to reconsider and instead have both maybe oakland and san francisco work together to come up with an alternative name. but the port of oakland moved ahead with their plans and they say that they'll also have a response to san francisco's lawsuit. there are now 2 bay area airports with the name san francisco in their title. >> a unanimous vote by the oakland port board thursday approved the switch from oakland international airport. to san francisco bay oakland international airport. nobody owns the san francisco bay and it is the most identify identifiable geographic indicator. and we happen to sit on the on the san francisco bay and we just want people to know where we are so

they can come enjoy. >> our beautiful city port port president barbara lesslie, along with other commissioners, says the name change will increase the airport's visibility. >> well, also giving potential travelers more options in the bay area. and a name kings change can certainly do that. that brings that knowledge for people past the mississippi to really understand where oakland sits in the greater bay area and also internationally, of understanding from people from around the world where oakland is. >> in this greater bay area. but the city of san francisco does not want this new name to happen. a lawsuit claims that infringes on san francisco international airport's trademark in a statement to kron for the san francisco city attorney's office says it is disappointing that oakland chose to ignore our multiple offers to collaborate. >> an alternative names and avoid litigation. we have no choice but to move forward with next steps in our trademark lawsuit, port attorney barry richardson has requested for a declaratory judgment as a counterclaim to the lawsuit. she hopes the

court will agree that san francisco bay is a geographic term and not exclusive to the city nor county of san francisco. we were not seeking money damages with that were only seeking a declaration from the court that we can continue to use the mark that the board to support. some residents did voice their concerns before thursday's vote saying if there's going to be more air traffic, that's going to create more air pollution in the city. >> but business leaders and city leaders such as councilmember noel gallo said the name change is going to be good for the airport in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> all right, dan, thank you. 606, is the time. and and alaska airlines flight had. look at this. a bird strike while it was landing at sfo. this happened yesterday afternoon. see that dent on the planes how lafayette upper left silver that dan? yeah, that's where the bird struck. fleet struck just the edge of the cowling. alaska airlines says after the flight from

boston landed the plane was pulled from service for inspection. no emergency was declared so they were able to land just fine. likely that bird hit the outside of the engine cover. the birds sees it that way. i think the bird calls it a plane strike. i think they're like the plane hit me. i didn't 607. right now. santa rosa man convicted of murder was sentenced yesterday to won t years. >> to life in prison for juan antonio martinez. he was arrested in june of 2022. for killing a man in the windsor area after killing the victim, martinez attempted to pose as a kidnapper and extort the victim's girlfriend of $100,000. he was eventually arrested, confessed and led investigators to the body. the district attorney, karla rodriguez says that the actions warranted a potential life sentence and is pleased with this decision. 608, and the south bay, a man was shot and seriously injured in san jose. this all happened. >> at the highway. 2.80, off ramp there. mclaughlin avenue.

this was wednesday evening. the ramp was blocked for hours. eventually it did reopen. the victim is in critical condition but stable at the moment. there's no suspect or motive for the shooting, but police are clearly investigated. >> it's 608, and santa clara county authorities made one of the biggest fentanyl seizures ever. they found 13 pounds of fentanyl under a baby's crib in a home in san jose. authorities raided the home wednesday and that's when they found 25,000 fentanyl bills. pills. sorry in a backpack. and they also found marijuana just a few feet away from the baby's play pen and cocaine right next to the baby formula in the kitchen. the parents, 27 year-old a vienna marino and 23 year-old crystal delgado face multiple charges. now, if convicted, they face up to 18 years in prison. okay. 609, is the time. and later this morning, governor gavin newsom is expected to unveil his updated budget for

the coming fiscal year. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say some difficult decisions have to be made. kron four's sorry. michael thomas is in the newsroom with a look at what the wrestling with michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. this budget proposal by governor gavin newsom. it's also known as the may budget revision. >> and it will essentially give us a look on how the governor plans to spend money for the next fiscal year and really explain how his administration plans to address the multibillion dollar deficit. it's currently facing. so the non-partisan legislative analyst's office says the state is facing a projected deficit of about 73 billion dollars. however, governor gavin newsom has said before he believes that amount is actually much lower in today's presentation, he's likely to announce where he thinks the deficit stands as of today and the plans he has to close that gap, which could include cuts in different areas, according to the associated press. this is the second year in a row that california has had a deficit this size and the state has avoided making some painful cuts to major ongoing programs and services. but it has made

cuts on one-time spending and delayed. other spending will also borrowing from other accounts. we spoke with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle about the deficit and what they expect to hear from the governor today. >> we know the revenues generally coming in lower than the forecast and that's concerning. and so we are prepared for some very difficult choices the bottom line is they're going to make cuts. >> and it's really the democrats. they're in a bind because they made all these promises to people all these things. they said they're going to do and now they're going to have to break those promises because we simply don't have the revenue and the money to actually do undoubtedly the governor will make some additional loans and deferrals and perhaps even some significant budget cuts will be part of the may budget revision. >> after the governor's presentation and he's updated this budget. the legislature has about a month or so to review it. then lawmakers need to pass a fully balanced budget by june. 15th as a new fiscal year is set to start july first as we get more updates on his proposal and the changes that may come,

pleaded guilty to hit run, leading to the death in a vehicle, manslaughter. the alameda county department. love it. so that was that story. now the alameda county health department is facing a shortage of restaurant health inspectors. this is having an impact fast food workers and the restaurants there. the health department tells kron 4, they're working to expedite filling vacant inspector positions. the san mateo county sheriff's office is donating safety locks for guns. at kaiser permanente in redwood city, doctors will be able to offer the devices to patients who have guns at home. governor newsom is putting pressure on the city of half moon bay to approve a 40 unit housing project for farmworkers. half moon bay is where that shooting happened in the governor met with survivors and toward the living conditions of the workers and the planning commission could move on that housing project next

>> well, the san francisco bay ferry is planning some major expansions throughout the bay area. the board of directors is planning to expand and electrify its fleet by the year 2050. the agency currently operates in alameda oakland, richmond, san francisco, south san francisco in vallejo. you see there route map there on the screen. but the first expansion they're planning is to expand service to berkeley, then to redwood city and then eventually all the way out to antioch and pittsburgh in the delta as well as foster city on the peninsula. >> 6.15, is the time right now and it is friday into the weekend's going to be pretty hot out there. and a lot of plans understand day weekend. we've got john with all the details on the forecast for today and john gave mothers day weekend just around the corner. little bo k of fog through the golden gate bridge this morning for mom, at least bringing a little bit of cool to the coastline today. inland areas. you're actually in for a bit of a warm-up compared to the past few days with spots like solano county, seeing 90 degrees for some of your

daytime highs. those offshore winds have relaxed a whole lot. still a little bit present, but a very shallow marine layer that you saw there at the golden gate is sweeping right back into the golden gate and especially into tomorrow morning will result in a bit of a start of fog for the bay area. as we kick off the morning tomorrow and another blanket of fog on sunday morning for mother's day before some afternoon, clearing to be expected. so a little relief for some areas as we do make our way through this forecast. as i mentioned, though, it's still a very hot situation inland cooled the coast hot inland. you can see that in your 4 zone forecast today, san francisco drops back into the 60's and 70's after yesterday brought us the first 80's since october for the city montero at only 65 degrees. today. well, looking at 70's to 80's for most of the rest of the bay area. little bit cooler for the south bay today, but not much cooler. really similar to yesterday. as for the inland east bay. these are where temperatures are going to be even hotter for many spots.

concord, up to 89 degrees today for vacaville and fairfield, you'll get up to 90 while pittsburgh in santa rosa up to 89 for your daytime highs. a look ahead of tomorrow. not a lot of change going on inland. we will have a cool morning tomorrow, though, by mother's day, we officially feel that cool down for everyone back into the mid 80's for warmest of highs. 70's along the bay shore and 50's out along the coast, all right, john, thank you for that little. fortunately, we have some bark issues going on this morning. >> we don't have any service on the red line. we've got some equipment issues going on. a bar. so red line orange line are the 2 lives impacted. the other lines. no problem. so blue yellow, a green were not see any issues ear. the orange line is only servicing between various in that car, sir. so if you do have to get to take bar and you are on the red line, know that we have those delays there. okay. silent. probably maybe 2 ride share or take another alternate way into work this

morning. the other highways and bridges were not see major issues. 11 minute ride into the city on the bay bridge, to ridge route 13. if you are down in the south bay in an accident southbound one, what san antonio road. but again, look at this green all around that. so it's not causing any major blockages. and you can still get through. i think 2 lanes are blocked there. 82 always a good option because there's nothing going on there. so andrew, down to 2.37 around. 21 minutes. arias is back to you. thanks a lot. 6.18, another mail carrier was robbed in the bay area. this time it happened in dublin. a kron four's. sara stinson spoke with neighbors and has the story. >> home security camera captures the terrifying moment. a mail carrier in dublin was robbed at gunpoint. this happened monday afternoon around 4.30, on a bespoke court video shows 2 masked men wearing all black approached the male woman. one points a gun at her dublin. police say the men demanded the carriers

mailbox key and phone. you can see her go to the usps truck to get her phone and handed over. then the 2 men run off. thankfully, the male woman was not physically injured. neighbors called 9-1-1 and police arrived shortly after to investigate. i went down to cul-de-sac. >> probably within 10 or 15 minutes after happen after seeing police in his neighborhood, mike grant went down to check it out. once he learned about the robbery, grant went to check his high-quality security camera system to see if it captured anything useful. >> that's when he saw what he believes to be the getaway car narrowed it down to this. a blue grants as police and the u.s. postal inspectors. investigators came by to get the video. he's lived in this dublin neighborhood for nearly 30 years and says only recently has there been a spike in crime. we've had a rash of crime on this west side of town. that's something that kind starts to wake me

up. grant says he's been talking with neighbors about ways to protect their homes, to start putting some cameras up to help. >> and alarm systems and everything like that. be a little proactive is what i'm trying to tell people. he also attended the dublin city council meeting tuesday to talk about the importance of security cameras, especially after monday's robbery. they got to start doing something. we >> have a lot of cameras in town, but they're not up in these neighborhoods. as for the mail carrier grant says he's checked in on her. she's going to take a month off of work to emotionally recover. you know, we're always out talking to her stuff like that. so she's kind of like family. >> so i stopped by just to make sure she was ok, i let her know that we're all thinking about the postal service is offering $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. i'm sara stinson reporting in dublin kron. 4 news. >> well, contra costa county now focusing on combating an

income on rent in san francisco. they came in number for the study, said you need to make $121,000 to rent comfortably in san francisco. a san francisco woman has been convicted of stealing more than $60,000 worth of merchandise from a target at stonestown galleria. 43 year-old has user graves she would apparently take items off his shows, go to the self checkout, scan the item insert a small amount of money like acting like she's pay for it all and then leave san francisco. police followed her and they did. they looked at her and surveilled her twice after she did this, leaving the target and then she was later seen selling the goods at un plaza da's office confirms that she stole from target over the course of 120 visits between october of 2020 in november of 2021, she was convicted of one felony count of grand theft and 53 misdemeanor counts of petty theft faces 3 years in prison. now.

>> well, former candidate who ran for santa clara county sheriff has been convicted this week of lying about her experience in law enforcement. the jury convicted 51 year-old on colton of felony perjury for falsely certifying the cheat, had the required experience to run. state law requires candidates for sheriff to have at least one year of law enforcement experience within the last 5 years or certificate showing advanced training in law enforcement. colton had neither she was listed on the primary ballot and received more than 4% of the vote based on her false certification that she came in last in that race. she was released yesterday on time already served. >> time now is 6.26. coming up next on the kron, 4 morning news and east bay county suffering from a shortage of health inspectors will see how employees and the

center field bridge around 9 minutes. and if you are going to take in the golden gate bridge, you do have that far. so just want to be a little careful. 19 minute ride darya. james, back to you. thanks. a lot rain. a 6.31. the alameda county health department is facing a shortage of restaurant health inspector workers at another fast food restaurant rallied outside their workplace. kron four's lezla gooden explains. >> some fast food workers over the last few weeks have been striking calling for better working conditions. one of them includes the al play a loco off of international boulevard in oakland here, workers have filed a complaint to cal osha claiming they have been nearly electrocuted due to flooding the kitchen where to put into it. >> really i. dane and the keen it was still asleep. 80. >> also they agreed on fire a california fast food workers. union says the workers decided to strike for 3 days last

the following statement, restaurant inspectors staffing shortages are a challenge for many jurisdictions across the state are environmental health department is working to expedite filling vacant inspector positions in oakland. let's do that kron. 4 news. >> 6.33 is the time a bounty hunter has been charged now with murder in connection with a fatal shooting. newark police confirmed 49 year-old bail fugitive recovery agents. charles price of forestville and bail bonds agent a bail bond agent. they were trying to find the man when an altercation broke out and after exchange of gunfire, the man was shot and died at the hospital. the victim has been identified as 42 year-old bay area resident richard turner. police say in march that turner did not appear in court while felony weapons charges were pending, which made him a fugitive. the da's office has charged price with one count of second-degree murder. 6.34 that i'm a man has been arrested now for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a

craft store in brent. what now? this is what was taken from a michaels craft store on lone tree way back on april. 30th police say matthews davis from antioch dumped those items on his bicycle and was taking off when he collided into a parked patrol car. davis was not hurt, but he was taken into custody. and he's a woman. now speaking out after the driver who hit and killed her partner and injured their son will not serve a single day in prison. greg turnage was killed on mother's day in oakland while out for a walk. this is back in 2021. there's the victim on the left. that's when a car veered onto the sidewalk and crashed into to turnage the driver. 67 year-old timothy amano ran from the crash scene leaving his own injured wife in the car. amano pleaded guilty to the hit and run the victim's partner. angie bray was very emotional at the sentencing in the knowledge that. the driver would not serve a day in prison. >> granted, you made the

choice to make me breakfast in bed with arson and to take a walk and timothy now make the choice to so that drinking in san francisco behind the wheel killing an innocent person. >> in a statement, the alameda district attorney's office says they did not offer a plea deal but it knows lawyers who negotiated one directly with the court. now model received a 6 year sentence. he served 3 of those in home confinement. and according to this plea deal, he'll spend the next 3 under house arrest. he's a fund manager so he can work from home without any issue. so the entire 3 years leading up to the sentencing, he's been at home. and for the next 3, he'll just stay at home. and that's why the victim's family so outraged. they're now seeking to file a civil suit against tomato. >> is 6.36, man accused of hitting 2 people, including a 14 year-old girl during a police chase in san francisco's pleaded not guilty

to all the charges his arraignment yesterday revealed more about rodney jefferson's past run-ins with the law and just how prosecutors say he hit that teen. >> kron four's dan kerman has the story. >> thursday afternoon, 54 year-old rodney jefferson pleaded not guilty to 2 counts of leaving the scene of an accident. reckless driving with great bodily injury, evading an officer and driving on a suspended license. the charges stem from his arrest tuesday for hitting 2 pedestrians and leading san francisco police on a chase across the city. authorities say tuesday morning's incident began with jefferson hitting one person while doing donuts at market in jones and then leading police on a chase across town during that pursuit. prosecutors say jefferson hit a 14 year-old girl who was in a crosswalk outside francisco middle school. prosecutors say a vehicle was stopped to let the teenager cross. but jefferson drove around that car and hit her. the student will survive

but has a broken ankle, a dislocated shoulder and bruising to the head during thursday's hearing jefferson made and inaudible outburst. but prosecutors said he showed no remorse once arrested and instead went into a profane tirade about his driving skills. prosecutors also told the judge jefferson has 14 prior felony convictions, including one in 2018 for battery with injury on a school employee. the judge called tuesday's incident egregious and said releasing jefferson on bail was a clear risk to public safety. jefferson tried to speak up, but the judge silenced him and continued to explain why she would not be releasing him on bail again. jefferson will remain locked up without bail, at least until his preliminary hearing on may 22nd. >> at the hall of justice in san francisco, dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> the vote is 4, 0, the item passes.
